Pat actually walked away from her career at one time to be a "stay at home mom" to her kids. Husband Neil continued working as a session and studio musician. Then, as Pat tells it, one day their kids were watching MTV (Remember back when they actually played music?) when they said "Hey, Mom. This woman looks just like you." She informed them that "that woman" was indeed their mother. Having known her only as Pat Giraldo, or by her birth name, which I would butcher if I tried to type it here, they laughed and said something like "Oh, Mom. That's Pat Benatar." Realizing that her own kids had no idea who she is, she called her husband and said, "We're going on tour." She is a true rock star and an amazing person.

@@vampfashions I'm not a family member, but I have a very good memory. The words are Pat's from an interview she gave that must have been going on 25 years ago, discussing her 5 year hiatus from performing. I don't remember who was interviewing her, but the revelation of her motivation for returning to the stage made an impact in my mind. True, she may have been elaborating or deflecting, but I would never question her own statements on this.

She has another beautiful song " We Belong " that when she said she shot the video she was having morning sickness and it was a miserable experience. Neil indeed has her back too, as he raised hell at an awards show last year that asked her to sing 3 songs then only filmed one. He didnt appreciate them wasting her effort stating they arent 20 years old. That was hard. God bless yall from Ky.

She was an Opera trained singer with a 5 octave range. She is also about 4' 11" which led 95.5 KLOS Radio DJ Bob Coburn to coin the title of "Power Elf of the 80's" to describe her incredibly BIG and powerful singing! I saw her at the Fabulous Forum in L.A. and had the worst seat in the arena, I had cement wall behind me and she was at the far end of the stage. She was so small that she looked like an ant in a leotard on stage, but her voice and Neil's guitar shook the place!!!

Pat does some great harmonies in the studio. Highly recommend it.
Back then, they had a second guitarist and a bit heavier sound. By their 3rd album, she replaced the 2nd guitarist and brought in a keyboardist to play more radio friendly songs.

Oh my Goodness...this is one of my favorite female rock artists from the 80s. She was, still is, & will forever be absolutely amazing!!! She's a legend no doubt about it! This is definitely one artist that I wish I could've been able to have went to one of her concerts. I probably would've had to have gone to the hospital afterwards to put my body back together though lol. I would've especially have to have had my head & neck reattached because they would've been detached from head banging & rocking out! I was very young at this time. My family was strictly country & bluegrass music only & I never got to experience concerts of different genres of music except listening to it on my boom box in my room or my Sony Walkman with my headphones, or if I was with some of my friends that listened to the same music that I did. It wasn't until I was older that I was able to go to concerts on my own & experience the different genres & types of music I liked. My favorite music is still country. I'm a country girl born & raised but that didn't mean I didn't listen to other music. All I can say is she's an icon. She put on an awesome show everytime she graced a stage. Great reaction Britt. This definitely brought back some memories of my early childhood as I kind of tell my age lol.

BTW, if you love her powerful voice you should also check out Linda Ronstadt. Her beautiful and powerful voice has done rock, country, jazz, and Latin. She's amazing. "You're No Good" is a classic hit of hers. There is a really good live video from 1980. "Hurts So Bad" might be my favorite. Second place would be "The Tracks of My Tears(Official Music Video), it's crazy good. She has numerous covers like Desperado(Eagles). Blue Bayou and When Will I Be Loved are two more of her great songs. I promise that once you hear her voice you'll be hooked and listening to as much of her as you can. A little music trivia for you, Britt...
YOU BETTER RUN by Pat Benatar was the 2nd song/music video shown when MTV first aired on August 1, 1981. Also, when Pat Benatar started appearing wearing leg warmers, leg warmers became a big fashion trend. The movie FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH also paid tribute to how high-school girls were copying Pat's hair style and fashions.

I've seen her in concert a couple times. I saw her in about 2002 at an outdoor concert. The concert was postponed for about an hour and a half because it was pouring down rain and lightning. We were about 10 ft from the front of the stage when they started playing. She played two songs and the lightning had gotten quite a bit worse. Her husband wanted to quit you could tell he was paying more attention to the lightning than anything else. She didn't want to quit. It looked like they're going to get a little argument on stage. He was telling her we're leaving, and she was telling him no we're not. In the end they bagged it after three songs. But lightning or not she still gave a really good performance.

She's also classically trained. She initially "wanted" to sing opera but after awhile, she said nuts to that and pursued rock n roll. Pat Benetar is an absolute legend. Since you dig her, check out Joan Jett. First song should be "I Love Rock n Roll" (there's no way you've never heard it....even just a snippet here and there) just because it's iconic. But personally, I really think you'll enjoy "Bad Reputation." Talk about honesty in music.....yeesh! Great reaction, love! Keep em flowing!!

I saw them live around the year 1999 and they brought one of their daughters on stage, she was about 11 years old. They said that their other daughter was a few years older and totally embarrassed by them. It was a great show!

I was at one of her concerts maybe 20 years ago now, and her daughter came up on stage and sang 3 songs with two other girls. I guess she was trying to have a recording career. The audience was very polite but a lot of us used the opportunity to run to the bathroom and buy another beer. 😃 They weren't terrible.

I was at that concert! 😂
    It was killer. I’m thinking
1883? They were taping for a HBO special. It was amazing.

Heartbreaker is the first big hit.. there is book about her career. "Between a Heart and a Rock Place. It's really good.. written like she telling you the story herself. I went to the book signing when it released.. she's really sweet
