I would STRONLY SUGGEST to ALSO listen to the studio version. ❤🔥
Indeed 😊❤
Ditto!!!!!!!
Yyyyyup. The strings in the studio version takes this song to another level
Yes, for sure!
There must be something about more copyright issues with studios because a lot of them know it's better but they still do the Live versions. This is a prime example of Live falling way short of the studio. They're still going to do Live anyway, I think.
Forget all the songs/videos. Your reactions are simply the most hilarious and enjoyable of anyone on You-Tube!!!!!
No Marvin Gaye, but Smoky Robinson does show up on Daryl's House singing Sara Smile and Oh, Oh Baby. You may want to check that out.
Yes... what a great idea you had. I would have never thought of it but you're right that would have been an unbelievable combination with Marvin Gaye. 🎯
Britt had mentioned it and I wholeheartedly agree!
@@tjtampa214
Rob Thomas nailed THIS song on LFDH too...
yes, highly recommend Daryl's house.
I agree. Daryl’s house! You’ll love it.
I'm 79 yo. I had the pleasure to see them perform live.
Your reactions are THE BEST !!
Yes, I too saw Hall and Oats live in Akron, Ohio in 1979. It was my first concert.😊
Nice - they played at my high school after we won a Spearamint Gum contest for collecting the most gum wrappers. The 70s were a good time.
Hall and Oates were the most successful Duo in history so many hits ❤
Simon and Garfunkel were pretty good too 🙂
As were The Righteous Brothers, The Everly brothers, Steely Dan...
@@gerrym.9354 I was about to comment Bollocks! but it seems you've done it for me.... and far more politely.
Granted, they were an uber talent writing and performing many hits! But, “the most successful duo….errrr…uhhhh…duo?” You may have a point!
I had read somewhere that Hall and Oates were the most successful Duo I don't have any facts for that and there's a lot of great ones for sure
@@gerrym.9354 Hall and Oates have sold more than the other groups all whom are fantastic too.
This Song hits everything for men and women, it's life, love and lost
Hall and Oats Rich Girl next!
Peace
This is one of my all time favorite songs. MUST listen to the studio version girl. So much soul and passion to it.
70s Pop has a texture. It's smooth and soft like a rich velvet.
Like a Velvet Elvis😂❤
We old folks had some awsome music😊
Its worth hearing the srudio version at your leisure because John's voice is more forward in the studio version.
Oh one of my favorites of theirs!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤. They're so talented! Quite a rabbit hole to go down!
It’s gorgeous to see your reaction to these guys…… I was at their concert in the 80’s….. believe me, the ladies were melting.
Sad that after making music together for half a century , Hall is suing Oates , and arguing in arbitration that he can' t sell his share of a Hall and Oates business partnership without Hall's permission .
Quite sad indeed.
sad yes but it's life. That is the agreement they both made. Daryl said some disrespectful things publicly and John said OK watch this. It sucks, but legally Daryl is right , they both agreed long ago not to burden the other with an unwanted partner by selling their individual shares.
The 70s was the best decade for great music. This is the best musical duo in history.
You selected the very best live version of this song👍👍👍
Still half as good as the studio
@@MoMoMyPup10 This is the only version i listen to lol
I would listen to the studio version. There is nothing like hall and oates vocals . Very unique and smooth
I mentioned this song on a post when you covered Sara Smile - which is my fave from them... but this song's call and response like vocals It's just so good, really shows how great they work together.
They met while attending a band competition in '67 in two different bands. When they found out they were both attending Temple University and clicked so well together musically, they started a new band and collaborated together.
"I might need a cigar" 😂 Great line. Their homage to Philly soul, 'I'm in a Philly mood' is well worth a listen ❤ Oh, and these were Philly boys, Marvin was Motown. Oil and water, beautiful lady, oil and water
True, oil and water. But also, Marvin's voice was washed up in the mid-'70s. Speaking of oil and water, Diana Ross and Marvin Gaye covered The Philly Soul classic by The Stylistics, "You Are Everything", and while Diana sounded amazing on it (no surprise there), Marvin sounded like crap.
This song channels a lot of Motown to my mind. Especially Marvin Gaye.
@@donpietruk1517 Then perhaps you should familiarize yourself with Philly Soul.
You are by far my favorite reactionist! I love everything about your takes on great songs from the 70’s.
Hall & Oates "Las Vegas Turnaround",, "Had I Known You Better Then",, "When The Morning Comes" & "Lady Rain" (Studio Versions)
I love the Abandoned Luncheonette album
@@lburton1892 Most music critics (And myself) have sited "Abandoned Luncheonette" as their best album.
@@lburton1892 Most music critics rate "Abandoned Luncheonette" as their best album. And I agree.
@@lburton1892, agree, it was the best!
I loved growing up in the 70's. The culture of the 70's reverberates through time. For some reason it was an explosion of creativity. Hollywood still relies on making sequels to 70's classic movies like Alien & Star wars, and hip hop artists mix 70's music into their rap songs. It was a very notable decade culturally.
all time classic! ♥
Daryl toured with The Temptations with his first band in the 60s before his joining with John. Then in 1985 they played the Apollo with Eddie Kendricks and David Ruffin of The Temptations.
Daryl Hall is one of the people you didn't recognize in the "We Are The World" video, remember?!👍✌️
She didn't reconized him? Come on! well, he always had a diferent style of hair tho lol
@@yatgrave1120 Watch that video & you'll see what I'm talking about👍✌️
And Paul Simon, Bob Dylan etc. 😉
They had an album that came out years ago called " Our kind of Soul ". You need to check out " Live from Daryl's house ".
The OLD GREY WHISTLE TEST was a long-running live music show in the UK in the 1970s and 1980s, fronted by the iconic DJ "Whispering" Bob Harris. You will find a whole warren full of rabbit holes to go down if you seek out other OGWT performances on RUclips 😊
"I need a drink and a quick decision" -- is a GREAT lyric!
I was in junior high when this came out. When this song played at the weekly
sock hop , it was a slow dance in the dark, with a girl you really liked 😊😊😊
Hall and Oates were HUGE for 2 decades. Oates has that warm, dirty sound to his voice. Makes you go 😮. We had the best music in the late 70s through the 80s.
late 70s no way AAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL OF THEM 70s in to the early 80s
Oh wow hall & oates has nothing but cuts ... GOD bless
So glad you watched this version Britt so you could see how cool and great John Oates is. I grew up in the 70’s with this music and it brings back so many good memories and still today it takes me away to good places and I never get sick of this song. So glad you reacted to it. ❤❤
"I pay the Devil to replace her". I have been there💔 and don't ever want to feel that pain again❗
I saw Darryl Hall singing with the O Jays and also Celo Green both pretty great!
Daryl Hall or John Oates , there is no Daryl Oates ! ?
haha how did i write that I have been a fan since the 70s! I'm going to change it!@@rogerdaly6326
The OJ's episode was great!
I saw that one too!! Did you know John was the masked singer?
Got to see them twice in 1981, once with Electric Light Orchestra and once with Aldo Nova and Joan Jett! Both amazing shows. Marvin died in 1984, and I don't think that he ever toured with hall and oats.
My first Hall & Oates concert was with Aldo Nova & Joan Jett & I agree it was an amazing show.
Marvin didnt tour with them - just did some of their songs
Wow just an incredible duo
In the documentary "We Are The World" that was published to celebrate the release of the song 40 years ago, it is described how there was a moment of tension in the studio, and then Diana Ross went to Hall and said to him she admires him and she asked him for his signature, and that broke the tension in the room. That's how amazing Hall voice and his music was.
This might be the best reaction I have seen across RUclips in quite a while! Loved it! 🙂
I second that you really need to see Smokey Robinson on Live From Daryl's House. The two of them singing together is def PDC material!!
I'm so glad you played that smoking hot version! That was really good! From the same album (Abandoned Luncheonnett) was a song called, "Las Vegas Turnaround." It also showcased John Oates singing ability!! I think you'll love it!!
Your definition of marriage actually brought a tear to my eye. That’s pretty rare for me. Thank you for that🙏🏽
"Were they born together?"Cute, innocent and funny. The lady is Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy and the DJ from the 70s movie Vanishing Point. And she doesn't even know it. A reaction channel worthy of rewatching.
"I might need a cigar" Right on.
You have the absolute cutest personality. Stunning of course, love the vids!
The beauty of it all is you don't have to pick which voice is your favorite. They're both right there for you, together
Same John Hall as was a member of the band Orleans, that you loved so much in an earlier review, during a very different part of his musical career.
You so rock, Britt! I love your reactions. Grew up in the 70s & 80s so Hall & Oates are a part of my DNA. I don’t know if anyone really appreciated how f*$&*#& good we had it. So much amazing real music and artists.
I didn't know Oates could sing, he has a great voice!
a great little known album of theirs "Change of Season" from 1990 showcases his voice alot more than normal.
I'm going to see John Oates in August! Love his voice!
These guys started in a small club called the “Salty Dog” in my hometown Ithaca NY. Saw them many many times.
Back story of this song is both men had gone through breakups. They each wrote lyrics with a melody to their songs. Turns out the songs were nearly identical so they blended the two songs with minimal adjustments to make what we hear now.
You MUST do all of their studio versions. The instruments sound the best in studios. Live music is best after you've heard the studio version. For real
I’ve seen this before. And I remember thinking-Damnnnn. John can sing his face off and play the lead guitar. Then I wasn’t sure who the better artist was! Damnnn!
LOVE your reaction to one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite bands of ALL TIME!
"One less toothbrush hanging in the stand" has always exemplified a breakup to me.
On Live at Daryl's House a show you react to, he plays with Rob Thomas of Matchbox Twenty which was a different arrangement. But the one I think you'll love is Celio Green doing F-You
When you go to relisten, I'd really check out the studio version. I would say at least 80% of the true sexiness and PDness is on that version, all though some of the uniqness is caught in this live. And then if you get the chance, check out the above mentioned with Rob Thomas. Rob has an amazing voice but you can immediately tell the level difference when Daryl chimes in. Also if you do enjoy Robs voice check out his song with Santana. Maybe a new PDC member?
Gotta listen to the studio version. The production is incredible
This is my favorite song by Hall & Oats, so pretty. You need to listen to the studio version of this song, it's such a lovely song.
Hall and Oates the most successful Duo in music history, kudos to you Girl this is hands down the best reaction I have seen from you, absolutely loved it
Gonna love me some blue eyed soul!!
You cannot go wrong listening to them.
So sad ‘The ultimate betrayal’: more details emerge in Hall & Oates lawsuit
This article is more than 4 months old
In court filing, Daryl Hall alleges ‘surreptitious’ plan by John Oates to sell song catalogue, with Oates calling the claims ‘inflammatory, outlandish, and inaccurate’
Abandoned Luncheonette LP. I bought that one in the early 70’s when it came out. Seen them many, many times live in New York when I lived there. Seeing them live will knock your socks off. You have excellent taste my dear. G.E. Smith their lead guitarist I met on the “R” train. He got on at Canal St. and was heading to the Saturday Night Live Studio. to rehearse. We got to talk for awhile. Very nice guy. He was the music director at Saturday Night in the 70’s while still gigging with Hall & Oates. 70’s was a great time in my life. I was in my 20’s and really enjoying life.
Love love love your reactions! I was born in 69 and grew up with arguably the best music! You would have fit right in!
These guys were big back in the day!
This live version has "jazzed up" vocals- I recommend searching out the single version to hear the definitive cut- which was one of 2 songs that put them on the map.
You said it right! Two very different voices joining as one, a beautiful sound!
These guys are stepped in Philadelphia Soul and Doo Woop. This is the sounds that you are hearing. It’s a rich legacy!
great reaction, getting chills myself! FUN FACT: H and O played a concert at my high school because we won a contest! 1981 I think.
First off GORGEOUS❤ love your style, personality and aura is shinning bright💪🏾☺ CRAZY I'm watching this clip and you mentioned have they ever toured with the late GREAT Marvin G. I just watched a video where they are on stage and Hall says "it's the closest I can get to a Favorite song",,,and guess what? Lol it's Marvin G, What's GOING on❤
Hall and Oates were college buddies at Temple U.
Marvin was Motown and hall and Oates are the Philly soul .hall and Oates grew up by me in the out skirts of Philly along with Todd rungren
H&O hung out with the Temptations too
Hall and Oates did tour with David Ruffin and Eddie Kendricks of The Temptations (the Motown super group) in the eighties! They are huge fans of the Motown sound!❤❤
Grew up in the 70's and still listen to this music. Love all of it but Michael McDonald will always be my favorite... Love watching your reactions...
I'm not one of these people that normally thinks live performances are superior to studio work, but THIS one is a TOTAL BANGER!! It's a very nice variation on the studio version and everyone on stage is just at 100! Total fire!!
I would ABSOLUTELY LOVE to see/hear your reaction to these INCREDIBLY TALENTED performers,, Steam Powered Giraffe 🦒 "Honeybee" (Official Music Video A MUST!!)
Amen to the studio version!!!
Your reaction has me laughing out loud. This is one of my favorite songs they perform.
I can NOT wait for you to discover 'Daryls House' you think you love this cat now... Check him out in his element. Him, the band, the guests, the music just goes to a whole other level.
This all day long! I’ve watched some of those episodes multiple times!
You would enjoy watching “Daryl’s House” on RUclips where Hall welcomes various artists of all eras to sing their music and cover H&O hits. Amazing.
This channel is a new discovery. She's really really good.
Oh Honey... You are adorable!!! Watching you and other reactors experiencing the music of my youth has rekindled my love for this glorious music. Philadelphia, blue-eyed Soul!!!
Thank you so much!!
You are the best at reactions by a mile. Love your reactions so much
Britt is so great
The studio version is tighter but you can’t deny their magic in any version!!
Great reaction!!! An absolute masterpiece. The studio version is incredible as well.
They met at Temple University in 1967 and made so much great music together and now with much sadness, they're in court.
No Marvin Gaye, but there are some videos of them performing some Temptations songs with Eddie Kendricks and David Ruffin.
Great live version...but please give the studio version a listen. Pure magic.
Ceelo Green joins Daryl Hall at Daryl's House....you gotta check those out
She did, that's why she's in the H&O rabbithole. 😊
Absolute favorite Hall & Oates song. I just heard it on the radio one day 20 years after H&O were at their peak in the 80s. Loved it.
I gotta say, I love the younger generations reactions to the songs that we all grew up on. Now ya'll know why we love the music we grew up on and miss it. Your reactions are awesome!
You're adorable Britt, Wow. I love how you feel the music.
They were big fans of Motown and the Temptations...great duo!!!!!!!!!
In the 80’s Daryl Hall was voted the most soulful white man on the planet.
Hall and Oates were part of my High school days. When this song, and Sara Smile came out, I remember where i was and what I was doing, I love that you love the music I grew up with
P.D.C. can be like the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame... Inducted as a member of Hall & Oats and inducted as a solo artist. 🤘
this was my fav song that they sung. but they were all good.
If you wanna hear more John Oates, they sing a song called “possession obsession” any way you want it in studio or live.. absolute banger 🔥
I saw Hall & Oates way back in the 80s
Hall and Oats are from Philly. So many of their musical tendencies came from the RnB roots from Philly. I could swear I've heard Daryl Hall talk about this on his show "Live at Daryl's House."
