Bob Seger has his own throne in the Pantheon of Rock Gods, no question. He's an absolute genius and a brilliant storyteller. His best attribute, though, is his humility. His has never been too arrogant, too aloof, too into himself. He came from a struggling family and he never lost that perspective. To this day, he still helps people in his hometown of Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Yeah man, that's it. Then add to that he's crossing Nebraska, when it is cold. And you can see way out to the horizon and the horizon is forever away, no matter where you look, nothing to see but road, dirt cross roads with a mailbox, harvested fields, and no houses - they are way on down those dirt roads past that distant horizon. And the sun is dim and cold and it all weighs down on you. And you ain't even the one driving, you're just one of the passengers and no one wants to talk because the words seem so small out there between the horizon and the horizon and the cold sun. How long you been driving? How far have you come? How long is left? Yeah, strung out from the road... who needs drugs to feel that? Might need some therapy after remembering it though....

Lyrics for this song. It's also been covered by Metallica and worth the listen.
    This is from '72 also
    'Bout bein' on the road
It's called "Turn the Page", yeah
    One, two, three, and
On a long and lonesome highway
    East of Omaha
You can listen to the engine
    Moaning out its one-note song
You can think about the woman
Or the girl you knew the night before
But your thoughts will soon be wanderin'
    The way they always do
    When you're riding sixteen hours
And there's nothin' much to do
And you don't feel much like riding
You just wish the trip was through, mm
    Say, here I am
    On the road again
    There I am
    Up on the stage
    Here I go
    Playin' star again
    There I go
    Turn the page
Well, you walk into a restaurant
    Strung out from the road
And you feel the eyes upon you
As you're shakin' off the cold
You pretend it doesn't bother you
But you just want to explode
Most times you can't hear 'em talk
    Other times you can
    All the same old clichés
"Is that a woman or a man?"
    And you always seem outnumbered
You don't dare make a stand
    Here I am
    On the road again
    There I am
    Up on the stage
    Here I go
    Playin' star again
    There I go
    Turn the page
    Out there in the spotlight
    You're a million miles away
    Every ounce of energy
    You try to give away
As the sweat pours out your body
Like the music that you play
    Later in the evening
As you lie awake in bed
With the echoes from the amplifiers
    Ringin' in your head
You smoke the day's last cigarette
    Remembering what she said
    Ah, here I am
    On the road again
    There I am
    Up on the stage
    Here I go
    Playin' star again
    There I go
    Turn the page
    Ah, here I am
    On the road again
    There I am
    Up on the stage
    Here I go
    Playin' star again
    There I go
    There I go
    Thank you

Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band is the best live act I've ever seen. 'Turn The Page' tells the story of how they got there.

I grew up watching Bob Seger and seen him in concert 5-6 times. I love the guy. Main Street is one of my favourites.

Night Moves, Main Street, Against The Wind are great songs (ballads).
When he wrote the he had VERY long hair. I grew up listening to him from in the 60s.
When I need to mellow out I turn to his songs.

“Strung out from the road” is referencing just how drained and “strung out” you can feel after being on the road so long.

The story is self evident. It will unfold as the song goes along. No need to interpret the lyrics so early in the song. Thank you for playing the wonderful Bob Seger. He is an awesome storyteller in his songs.

    Hi Britt.
I am Brian from Alberta , Canada. I am originally from Windsor , Ontario right across Detroit City. I was fortunate to get to see Bob Segar play in Detroit.
You had asked about any other bands that write a song about there life as a traveling band.
You reminded me of the song called Beth from the band "Kiss" , one member wrote this and it is related to the band practicing.

For many years, Bob lived up here in N.Michigan. He is just a very private individual. So if you saw him out and about you, just say hi and not fan drool at him. Celebrities like our town and area because we treat them like anyone else, famous or not. Bob did sell his place up here a few years back.

He grew up in Detroit, which is on the opposite side of Michigan as I grew up but he still hit many bars along the route where I live such a great performer and always will be, he even wrote a song for General Motors….. Her Strut is one of my faves 🇺🇸🇺🇸👊🏼👊🏼

If you didn't know Bob through hearing his music, you probably never heard of him. Not really ever out in the big rock feastivals or on talk shows. Very understated type of personalilty. A totally soulful voice and the strong angelic voice, the change in tempos and instrumentation is emotionally transporting. I feel his lyric.

Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band , the albums of my youth . Every time l hear these Segar tunes , man , it takes me back . His song Mainstreet was me circa 1980 . Those times are long gone along with so many people that made it so memorable.for me . Living on the streets with all the other lost souls , all of us just searching for a place to find love . Up on Main Street.

it is good to hear someone's first time reactions to music I have loved. Music has been siloed for so long. It is trapped in time loops and the narrow subcultures that define tribal identities. I don't think musicians have rigid walls around their musical tastes but listeners and music sellers often do. Thank you for reminding me why I love these songs and artists.
