The crazy thing about Daryl Hall is that he doesn't warm up his voice. He just does this all naturally. He does a show called Daryls House. On a episode with John Rzeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls they discuss this. Great show if you want to learn about how music is created and it's history.

They were major. Massive. Fantastic I the ‘70’s, blew up in the ‘80’s. Anything from the ‘80’s. They went from lots of straight soul to pop rock soul.

Love your reactions. Love this song. Obscure fact: These Mr. Hall and Mr. Oats made great music together. They had a fallen out. Beef unpreparable. However, they would tour for years together. Get on stage, act like best friends. Then get off stage and never speak. Lessons we all should learn to work together.😎

White guy here. Sara was a real girl in Daryl's life. That comes through clearly in his vocalization of this song. I'm glad you've been enlightened to this duo. They were very important to the music of the 70's...much like the Chi-Lites. You know, we all feel...black, white, red, yellow, brown. We feel. This music has no color. God bless you for taking the time to look at this group. In the 80's, white guys like me were getting tuned in to the Motown stars of the 60's and we loved them.

Hall and Oates, one of the greatest pop duos in history. The great thing about this is that unlike most video clips from the 70s these guys are not lip-syncing, this is them actually singing. It sounds nothing like the album version.
