I'm an old white woman and grew up listening to all the black singers from the 50's 60's... I have a 78 vinyl collection of over 50 albums. Makes my heart jump to see young folks finally hearing these irreplaceable groups of that time period.
This is why I listen to 50's 60's on Sirius while driving. Sorry, but I can't get into today's music. Check out Little Anthony and the Imperials and The Shirelles.
Kathy here - I am a 68-year-old white woman, not that color matters, but this is the music my parents listened to, danced to, had parties in the house and took the furniture out to the garage and open up the living room for friends to dance. My dad would put on this album, let me stand on his feet and slow dance, before me and my sister had to go to bed. What memories this brings back. So glad to see the younger generation discover music from the "old" days! Yes, their harmonies were great, and they were one of the most popular bands in their day. The were actually considered to be a "rock n roll band" back then. LOL Thanks for your reaction and loved YOU actually reacting to it also. You need to check out Smoke Gets in your eyes, it's amazing.
Platters were the cream of the crop of vocalist groups.Tony Williams was amazing.
Smoke Gets In Your Eyes and The Great Pretender are two of their biggest songs
From an old white guy living in a rural area, I completely agree with you that you need to do more reactions to black artists from the 50's - 80's. There must be 500 famous black artists with 1000 famous songs in 3 or 4 diff genre's of music during those 4 decades. Both black and white music was just incredible for those 4 decades.
Straight talent, no auto tuned needed.TALENT
Another Platters classic is Smoke Gets In Your Eyes.
A fantastic choice! This is a clip from a movie. The guy who introduced them is Alan Freed, a famous radio disc jockey who promoted rock & roll & R&B in the 1950s. The white middle aged audience is there to tell folks that this music is non-threatening.
Yes, black performers came in through the back door, could not use any facilities, and though they were loved, it was as entertainment, not necessarily as human beings. Just remember, we're talking about clubs not in the deep south, but in Hollywood, New York, Chicago, and every other big city. This movie wasn't shot in Podunk, Georgia or Bug Tussle, Mississippi. Thank goodness this all changed when I was young. It was tough times, but hard times make strong men and women and strong men and women make good times. Unfortunately, good times make weak men and women, and weak men and women again make hard times. Be strong, young man. Don't go down the rabbit hole of resenting the past. The past is what made the future you're now living. Keep making it better.
Finally a younger person that appreciates their history, He almost broke down talking about our treatment, lol he think any harder he gonna be reacting to the blues,
I am glad that these young reactors are discovering the roots of music. Forget whether it is black or white music. Music has no color it is a kaleidoscope.
The Platters were a super group and a class act for all time. A beautiful love song and Tony Williams, with the voice of an angel! Pure heaven!!!
Nat King Cole -"unforgettable", enough said.
Beginning to realize why most of us "old" folks haven''t heard anything in last 40 years that we really want to listen to
The Platters....Smoke Gets In Your Eyes.....his voice is one for the ages.
The lead singer is Mr. Tony Williams - the Man with the golden voice ! ! !
This is what's missing in music now...pure talent and romance. Love your reaction.
So many more. Just search Motown and you can’t go wrong.
My mom absolutely loves the Platters. I appreciate them and like their music. The helped pave the way for other talent down the road.
