“Ben E. King - This Magic Moment” is also an amazing song of his! What a voice. What an era!
Yes!!! That is one of my favorites! Great recommendation.
Don't play that song is one of my Favs.
"Under The Boardwalk", "Up On The Roof", "Spanish Harlem"
You picked the 3 best...
Those three. ☝️
You beat me to it Jim - they're the ones I was about to suggest!
Oh wow, those are all his too?? Awesome. Ok so now I finally know I'm a Ben E King fan.
Under The Boardwalk by The Drifters was the first song that I just now thought of that sounds similar, that he should react to. It's a great one
Ben E. King was the lead singer for a group called the Drifters for a while, before going solo. An amazing voice. Try the song, "Save the Last Dance for Me."
I love this song, and This Magic Moment.
I love "Save the Last Dance"!
First time a heard this Magic Moment was in the Sandlot
Oh was he? I didn't know that. Will have to listen to them too then. Did they continue on after he left?
@@angelika_munkastrap4634 The Drifters continued on after the spring of 1960 when King left, and had more hits, including "Up on the Roof," "Under the Boardwalk," and "On Broadway," with other lead singers. They last made the Billboard charts in 1968, but continued on with other personnel in England.
You’re a young man with an old soul. You lived in another lifetime and the music is reminding you of feelings you had then. 😊
Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Sam and Dave, and SO MANY others - these are some of the greats you’re talking about. Smokey Robinson, Bill Withers in the 70’s. The list is deep.
Oh yes, Otis Redding!
BILL WITHERS
@@brigittehuard4902 The late Bill Withers was an icon in West Virginia his home state. We have a museum and WV's Hall of Fame. Wonderful singer and songwriter. He's missed.
@@wvob6752 Rightfully so! He was amazing.
I love Otis Redding
The orchestra just adds to the magic of this song.
The string instruments just transport you!
Gets me every time.
Oh yess.
Yeah it really gets you in your soul it feels good. I guess that's why it's called soul music?
Favorite song ❤
One of the first times I heard this, I was sitting with my girlfriend in the early 60s, enjoying this wonderful song. Now we have 3 children, 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Now THAT is a song!
if you don’t mind me asking how old are you?
@@liammati2 72. And I still enjoy all kinds of good music
My personal favorite by Ben E. King was "Spanish Harlem", but "Save The Last Dance For Me", "There Goes My Baby" and "This Magic Moment" are also great songs. The era of the greatest pop/rock singers. Understand, black singers and performers of the time didn't get the job done in spite of the racism of the times, we flourished because of it. R&B was our music and it was part of the struggle and the movement. We had to invent our own separate musics, arts and culture. We had to invent jazz, R&B, rock and roll, and the blues. We had to invent modern tap dancing and the modern way of singing. We had no choice and it made us who we are.
Oh wow, I love all those songs, didn't connect that they were all sung by him. Growing up hearing it all on the radio as a kid, I didn't connect a lot of singers with their songs, it's only now watching reactions that I'm finally making those connections as an adult and realising just which singers i really like
@@angelika_munkastrap4634 So many great singers of that era. Music was different back then and singers and groups had to learn how to sing and perform, with and without microphones, before they ever made a recording. Ben E. King was a member of The Drifters before becoming a solo artist. With The Drifters he did "Save The Last Dance For Me", "Count The Tears", "Dance With Me", "There Goes My Baby", and "This Magic Moment".
After he left the Drifters, did they continue on as a group?
@@angelika_munkastrap4634 Oh yes. They had some incredible hits such as "Saturday Night At The Movies", "Under The Boardwalk", "Up On The Roof" and "On Broadway". I'm sure you've heard most of these too. I saw these guys just after King left them. Now ask me who were the great singers of that era.
Ohhhh yes, Under the Boardwalk is one of my fave songs of all time. And the other three songs are great too, wow, had no idea rhe were all Drifters songs, will need to iTunes all these immediately, so after he left who became lead singer then?
Old School music is romantic, it always has a way of painting a picture in your mind as you listen to the story-line!!! Enjoy it, because there will never be anything like it again!!!
It’s not the mainstream music of today, but it’s pretty cynical to think that there will never be a renaissance of this type of music. In fact, many people make music like this today but you have to look hard to find them. I would recommend Pain and Misery by the Teskey Brothers to restore your hope
@@harrybillings23 Thanks, I'll keep that in mind...
Embarrassing how many times I’ve watched this beautiful reaction to such a great song. Lol. 15 times. 😂😂
I wasn’t born yet but this song gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it. When you start shaking your head. I always do the same thing because the song is so powerful you feel like you want to cry especially when the orchestra is playing at the end. Its so beautiful ♥️
By the way, I like it when you give your opinion on the song. You are right...sadly not everyone had a chance back then...
Then get on the band wagon for Sam Cooke, Brook Benton, Johnny Mathis, Billy Holliday, Mahalia Jackson, Jackie Wilson, Al Green, Marvin Gaye, Etta James, on and on.....Oh what a rabbit hole you will never escape from...But what a great gift to past down to your children...
Yes to all of these!
Agree !
Sam Cooke You Send Me beautiful song.
@@peggypennington3270 One of my all time favorites..
Yes! Great recommendations also Sarah Vaughn, Lorraine Ellison, The Shirelles, The Ronettes, Dinah Washington, and Lou Rawls, Lena Horne, and The Supremes... And so many more!
Music is the language of the universe. When music comes from the heart and soul , like this song, the universe will move you.
Songs are timeless when you have a phenomenal artist like Ben E. King
Respect! A younger man paying tribute to a truly great brother.
Every time I listen to this song it gives me goosebumps! What a voice, with so much raw emotion.
You just heard the most beautiful song in the world for the first time? I could tell you were in it when the orchestra kicked in.
I'm envious 🔥💙 This song makes my heart race and my eyes water and I've known it all my life.
You're getting into some big time Classics here, keep going, your reactions are great.
Wish he would do more of these classics. He does seem to enjoy the ones he does.
@@dianegoldeneye7207 Me too! I would love to go even further back into the Big Band Era - just based on how much he loves the instruments, I think he'd get a kick out of Duke Ellington, Harry James Artie Shaw, Count Basie, Benny Goodman etc.... Fingers crossed 🤞 🙏
This is where the "Motown sound" developed it's roots.
Look at yourself my man, the joy,the feeling of soul,so great to see a young guy like yourself appreciate the great ones that gave us so much enjoyment and to see it passed on to you and other young people is a blessing.
Big reason why people still listen to this song is 1986 movie Stand By Me and its child actors who later became famous for various reasons. The movie was somewhat of a generation experience for Gen X.
His voice and lyrics 💜
The violins though 👏🏽
The soul in his voice gets me every time!
Omg this was my wedding song.brilliant singer and song.i get the goosebumps.💕💖
When those violins come in ... chills every time!
Countless artists with countless hits. This is fun to look back
Absolutely luv this song! There was a movie made in 1986 not based on this song but derived by the title of Stand by Me...and great reaction.
Incredible movie!!
I was the age of the actors when that movie came out and I already loved this song, but it and this movie are now forever fused in my head 🖤
Actually the movie is based on the Stephen King book of the same name.
Great movie. Watched several times. ❤️👍🏻
Dude it's ok to cry, that feeling you are trying to explain is called real deep soulful meaning in music, which we don't hear anymore!
The 60's like a fine whiskey they always tastes good man timeless music
This is one of those recordings that will never ever die. In 1000 years, when only a handful of songs from the 20th century survive, this will be one of them. An absolute masterpiece.
Totally agree
"Lonely Boy Blues"....will pierce your heart😍 and "There Goes My Baby" when he was with "The Drifters"....which is another rabbit hole🥰👍
Have always loved him my favorite song ❣️
Best version of this song, it’s been sung by lots of artists, this is the original!!!!
This was my wedding song. Also my favorite song of all time... thank you brother!!!
Everytime i hear this song it reminds me of my father💙 it was one of his favorites
This whats known as a "Classic"!
I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that you haven't seen the movie Stand by me either. This song is on the soundtrack and plays in closing credits. You should watch it lol
Great movie, really elevated this song more to a new public aswell
Also used as the theme song for a Steven King movie.
@@davidgross990 bruh Stand By Me is the Steven king movie
@@gabrielherman8930 Yeah, but the movie came out long after the song maybe 30 or 40 years.
Greatest movie of all time. In my opinion.
It’s the phrasing of the vocalists back then . They truly brought it when laying down tracks . This is a masterpiece .... thanks for vid
I get what you're saying. R&b singers from the 60s up through the 80s just had a different sound along with an incredible level of talent. I think it's their delivery that makes it so good to me. It's just exciting to listen to even in a slow song like this
This song draws out emotion and always has because, I think, we all want the ones we love to stand by you like the title and chorus goes. Wonderful song. Very strong and feeling commentary from you Twon🙌
Music of the 60s and 70s was the golden age of music. Nothing in this century comes close.
I'd stretch that to the fifties and eighties aswell.
Even the forties has some beautiful rich sounds
Baby boi I love to watch you, you ain’t got no shame in showing how the songs impacts you.
Great reaction to an iconic song! Covered many times, used in tons of movies. Legend! It’s so interesting to watch your reaction because this is a song so many of us have heard a billion times and come to take for granted and you remind me how amazing it is all over again!
One of my favorite songs of all time. Really love seeing your reaction. Thanks for sharing!!!
Such a classic. It came out in 961 and as a little girl I danced with my sisters to this record. Just untouched in many ways. Thank you for paying respect to this great song that continues to live on and on!
Real music! Melodies! Killer vocals! And you’re right- this brilliant stuff by Black artists from that time is a testament to their spirit and genius.
So many great artists that did not get credit. Ben E. King was just one of those. This song is timeless. You're never too young or old to appreciate this.
your appreciation of great lyrics and delivery is inspiring. your observations about overcoming barriers highlights how essential music was / is to effecting positive change.
When you feel it, you know. It's incredible. Chills. Tear drop. I can't imagine my world without music. All love Twon
Now you know what is meant by " can you feel the music?" It goes through you, not at you.
That voice, and the way the bass and the string section work together. Just magic. Such a powerful song, and one that's still regularly used to show support for and solidity with people in times of trouble. Oh and if you want to see the sort of conditions that black artists went through in the 50s and 60s, I recommend watching the movie "Ray". It's a biopic of legendary pianist Ray Charles and it's a real eye opener, as well as a great movie.
This is one of my favorite old songs, this music is doing my grandmothers time, I remember it playing through the house while I was in middle school
This is truly beautiful music, great vocals, lyrics and musicians. Classic.
Watching you react so wonderfully to these songs from my childhood and youth makes me cry tears of happiness.
Yes this is an AWESOME song. So emotional and honest
Thanks, Twon - this is one of the most beautiful songs, evah!!!! and b/c Ben E. King! Also - go with some Sam Cooke - especially "Change Gonna Come" and "You Send me" - looking forward to more!
Just love the melodious sound of violin in the background. Very popular in the late 50s + 60’s Ooooh😙💕💕
I was born in England and and was around 10 when this came out. My older sister was a teenager and bought the record. I hear what you’re saying about how black people kept making music even though the racism was really bad still. There were a lot of people then that didn’t care what skin colour a person had, they just cared about the music. My parents were racist and objected to what we were listening to, and that was true for a lot of young people and their parents. But it was the 60’s and there were so many young people who no longer cared what their parents dictated. We earned our own money working in corner shops and movie theatres, etc, and were going to buy what we wanted, and the technology existed (portable record players), that we could listen to it and enjoy it without their ability to control us. It was a tsunami of a youth movement which couldn’t be controlled. any more. And it just got better and better until somewhere in the 90’s and I don’t know what happened, but ever since then, bit by bit, the divisions are returning. My heart weeps.
The systemic divisions were always there. Read about Jim Crow laws in America- Black Americans lived in genuine apartheid. And as America gets more diverse , there are white supremacist structures like the Police, who are fighting these good changes with everything they have.
This is one of my FAVOURITE tracks of ALL TIME!!!😍🥰😘👍
One of the best all time classics.
The 60's produced a lot of Great
Music
If I understood your question correctly: those instruments that came in at around 4:20 are violins. They are very dependable for eliciting a very emotional response.
Love this reaction!!!! Damn!!! Made me cry too!!!!!
I love that your listening to the greats & love them, Twon!! Great reaction!! Check out one of the biggest classics ever: Otis Redding "Dock of The Bay." ❤🎵✌
I watch ur videos fairly often but I think you hit the nail on the head when u said ...despite the racism they didn't let it stop them. THAT IS truly the best lesson from that time. As a human being there will always be obstacles, always. But NOTHING gives anyone an excuse to just give up and blame shift like some black people are in the habit of today. Obstacles are necessary to bring out the greatness in each of us. We may not like it but they make you stronger. Thanks for appreciating what came b4 you. It's good to see. God bless you.
This song hits me everytime I hear it!! It never gets old...one of my all-time favorites...and I'm a 50 year old white dude..
We all wore suits and ties to work. Everyone at least wore a tie. The hippie days pretty much ended those days. One thing about growingup we all danced all the time. it was just so easy to dance just like you are doing listening now. We had tons of 45's stacked up and ready to dance too. I loved growing up then .
First timer, you have been blessed, Love it, Oh the memories, Wow. Thank you NLN...Peace
This is a classic. Love it! Check out Spanish Harlem, He Don't Love You, This Magic Moment
This is in my top 5 of all time! This was my background music growing up in the 60s.. I love all music although lean towards soul. Thank you and keep it coming..
This Magic Moment...so good.
Love love this song ,beautiful ,your reaction was perfect !
He has a lot of great songs what I love is you can hear every word so clear and it's meaning I always love songs that you can hear the words clearly love it ✌️❤️💯
Awesome! Your reaction was priceless. I had a tear or two.
You will find MUCH wonderful music during "the Elvis era" -- the years from 1953 (when Elvis cut his first record) until he died in 1977. There were SO MANY great singers (including Elvis) and songwriters during those 24 years...and SO MANY memorable songs. If modern artists produced music like "Stand By Me," fans would eat it up! It doesn't get any better than The Drifters' "Under the Boardwalk."
Hi I'm new just wanted to tell you I really like watching your reactions. You have a unique gift that I can't even explain. I really enjoy your selections of music videos.
One of the greatest songs ever, with one of the most beautiful strings in a song - Heavenly ❤❤❤
Such a good song and era!!
So many of the old singers and bands are amazing....true talent.
I grew up listening to this kind of music...can't beat it, so glad you love it...this is what you call a GREAT song...
So glad to see open minded people from the younger generation willing to hear what music came before their time.
Easily one of the most gorgeous things ever recorded. You can interpretate the lyrics in so many ways, you can relate it to a spouse or a friend or even the struggle for civil rights even though Ben wrote it because he felt sad about his band because he was going solo.
Like all timeless songs it will outlive us all and find a new audience over and over again
excellent reaction, the song is just pure joy. doesnt matter when it was made a good tune is a good tune.
Good music is timeless, dude.
Watching your reactions fills my heart with joy ❤️❤️
One of my all time favorite songs. I’m 67 and have heard it most of my life❤️❤️❤️
So much emotion from this song. Sounds like the vocals are coming from some isolated lonely room.
This song is a Classic for ALL TIME.
Stringed instruments add so much to add to the beauty of this classic. No music like this anymore
Welcome to my generation......some of the best music ever. Thanks for appreciating it!!
One of the best songs ever made. Great performance of Ben E King.
60s and 70s is a goldmine of music. Good music in all decades, but i think 60s and 70s had the most.
Ben E. King was a LEGEND! He came from humble roots, a sharecroppers son who had to struggle to make his way in the world. He grew up in a time of horrible prejudice, he came from Mississippi. He was a wonderful man that shared his God given talent with the world and never let the prejudice's of the people around him darken his life. I met him after a concert shortly before he died and he was such a nice man. He truly is a man to be admired and emulated. He was one of the Greats.
What draws you to this music is the vocal clarity that a pure singer, backed by kickass musicians, no electrical or digital manipulation.
Still one of my all time fav songs
RIP dear sir. Go gently into the night. U r missed, not 4gotten and ur music will always b w/us. U gave us such a gift...T/U 4 that

such a beautiful song by Ben E. King.
Class soul of my youth. Good to hear it again beautiful voice
this kinda stuff usta play on the radio all day every day -- radio was always on -- im 82 and saw rock and roll from the very start from back in the '50s -- we had the best music -- glad to see you enjoying it
Violins...born to make you cry. I loved this song then and I love it now.
this is my happy song. like tears flowing, feeling hopeful, happy song.
What you like? It’s called quality. This recording ticks every box.
R.I.P Ben... You're still leaving impressions in ALL our hearts.
I am a 60’s baby & I have heard this all my life. Love Ben E. King. I am not sure what decade he is from but, I love Jackie Wilson. His song “Lonely Teardrops “ is awesome. I remember when my kids & my sister’s kids were little ( my niece is around ur age & the youngest). I would go over every once in a while & we would play older music. My niece fell in love with “Lonely Teardrops “ around age 3. I love music ssssooooooo much & I tried to make sure my babies knew of all the music I knew.
I love Jackie Wilson! The film La Bamba (1987) also had "Jackie Wilson" perform this song on stage. I was born in 78, so my little sisters and I would love dancing in the living room to this one.
