And "Saturday Night At The Movies, "This Magic Moment" and "Save The Last Dance For Me". All classics. My favorite is "Spanish Harlem" though, I must admit.
This is, by far, one of the greatest tunes ever...and yes, it's from '64, take my word for it, I was there and I was 14 years old. Thank you very much for listening to it... Rock on.
Man, The Drifters are FIRE, were back in the sixties and still are now. This is one of my fave songs of all time. Check out their other songs: Save the Last Dance For Me Spanish Harlem Up on the Roof Stand By Me Saturday Night at the Movies On Broadway
@Gary R Yes, Google articles have been leading me very astray with just who sang what. With what was actually The Drifters, what was Ben's after he left. What was The Drifters when he was replaced by that other great singer (forget his name momentarily) Suffice is to say that pretty well any song that came from ANYONE that touched that group is phenomenal
If you like “that old sound” you might check out The Flamingos ‘I Only Have Eyes For You’ a truly beautiful love song. Also, The Platters go back to the late 50’s to early 60’s. The Great Pretender, Smoke Gets in Your Eyes ( a cover to a I think a thirties hit) are just as great.
One of my favorite old songs; came out in 1964. The Coasters were also great; songs: Poison Ivy, Yakkety Yak, Little Egypt, Charlie Brown. Another favorite of mine is Mary Wells; song: The One Who Really Loves You.
Taking me back to high school with this one. 🎶🎶🎶 Absolutely love your excitement and love for the old school tunes. You have a million dollar smile there son‼️. Brightens up my day every time❣️ Keep up the great work!
You can’t go wrong with real oldies. I love to see someone your age listening to these songs. I was lucky enough to be exposed to oldies from my mom. Ive been wondering if younger ppl still get any exposure to music from waaay back. I’m glad to see that you are. 😊
I am a 58 year old and our generation had some "bangers" ourselves, you have reached to some of my faves Sara's Smile, give She's Gone a listen, along with some Steeley Dan Peg, gaucho, Babylon sisters, get back in this late 60 and 70s..
Little brother those guys were the shit back in the day. At 66 this is another reason our music was way better then nowadays. Try the Stylistics, The Delfonics And the Chi-Lites. Go down that rabbit hole. Once upon a time the radio stations played everything instead of just one type of music.
One thing that is missing with modern music. Many of these old songs somehow made you feel happy. Even if you felt happy they made you happier. You should just do a video, requesting people to reply with the 60s song that makes them feel the happiest.
Their ability to make the vocals seemingly grow out of the instrumentals is amazing. And, we must mention the creative instruments at the beginning and throughout the song. Genius!
Awesome pic! My mom had this record and we listened to it all the time growing up. My mom help me grow up with rock and roll and Motown. We had a little dance that we did to this song.my mom was the one with rhythm and soul and she passed it down to me I guess. I miss those days. My mom's real sick right now and I miss dancing with her. I hope I can get back to Virginia soon and have one more dance with her before her time is up. You gave me great memory of my wonderful mom. I'll try to hold on to more of those. I might pull out some of my own record albums and listen to it. Anything Motown is that old sound and you will love! Thanks again my dear! boy you make me cry almost every time I listen to you.
Love that you are so open and receptive to these classics and the music of that era! I grew up with it. You might also enjoy Billy Stewart "Sitting in Park" and "I do Love You" when you get to solo singers
My first experience with music was listening to the radio that my parents put in my room when I was about 2-3 years old (1958..1959.) And this was the sort of music that was playing. I loved it. I also really liked the 'MoTown' sound that became popular in the 1960s. And still do. My two favorite songs by the Drifters are this one, and 'Save The Last Dance For Me.'
The beginning of this 1964 song makes a refernce to "on the roof" - they had a hit in 1962 called "Up On the Roof: that this is referencing - this also has a small musical refrain linked to that song - almost like sampling before it existed
This song was made long before I was born(1972!), and I remember listening to the local Oldies station(this was before the Internet, and before streaming), and this was one of the songs I fell in love with, and made me fall in love with the whole Oldies genre, when music wasn’t so overproduced.
Looking forward to this reaction. Very first time hearing this song ever? I was raised on this stuff, so I know the lyrics. Lonely teardrops from Jackie Wilson is a good one you should check out if you don’t know any Jackie Wilson songs.
Doowop big in the 40's, 50's, and 60's, one of my all time favorite music styles. Drifters, Platters, Temptations, The Five Satins, The Cadillacs, The Coasters, The Del Vikings, lost of great ones! And it is fun music! Almost forgot Sam Cooke!
Those of us that grew up in the 60's, 70's and 80's were blessed with the best music...no matter what genre. Would choose all of that music over almost all of what is out there today. Enjoy watching your reactions... keep exploring.
This is one of my mother's favorite songs by one of her favorite groups. I'm old enough to be your father. In 1964 when this song came out my mom was 20 yrs old. It 's good to see young folks discovering this music.
Ok, I'm 68 years old, I"ve always enjoyed this song. But I didn't truly appreciate this man's voice until I discovered Pavarotti, thanks to you reactors. Having heard Pavarotti sing, I watched voice coaches appraise his voice and explain how he achieves his full, golden sound, from his low notes to his high notes. So, just now, listening to this song with fresh ears, I heard this man hit his high notes without switching from chest voice to head voice. I have a whole new appreciation for this song and Johnny Moore's talent. And once again, you stop the song before the end. And I don't believe a word you said.
AFTER SONGS LIKE THIS, LEAD SINGER BEN E. KING WENT ON HIS OWN AND MADE MONSTER HITS LIKE... SITTING ON THE DOCK OF THE BAY, AND... THERE IS A ROSE IN SPANISH HARLEM.... YOU WILL LOVE THESE TWO .
This is what Wikipedia says............."Under the Boardwalk" is a pop song written by Kenny Young and Arthur Resnick and recorded by The Drifters in 1964. It charted at number four on the Billboard Hot 100 chart on August 22, 1964. The song has since been covered by many other artists, with versions by Billy Joel, Bette Midler, Sam & Dave, the Tom Tom Club, The Rolling Stones, Billy Joe Royal, Bruce Willis, Bad Boys Blue, John Mellencamp and Lynn Anderson all charting in the United States or overseas. The song ranked #489 on Rolling Stone's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
I hope you continue your Drifters journey. For your next song from them, I suggest either "There Goes My Baby", "This Magic Moment", or "On Broadway". Then after you've hit those 3, try "Up on the Roof". Your source is correct that "Under the Boardwalk" is from 1964.
Great reaction!! Next song you should cover is 'Up on the roof' by the Drifters. I was fortunate enough to grow up listening to this music and talented artists. Keep posting, you have a great ear for great music my friend.
My mom raised me on oldies...I probably heard this song for the 1st time when I was 5 or 6 and I'm 41 now. It's timeless...so much fun to listen to. Check out Edwin Starr, Twenty Five Miles or Knock On Wood by Eddie Floyd 😀
Perfect nostalgia song! Before my time too......by just a bit!😹 Yet, one immediately feels lifted, happier and can almost feel that ocean breeze! Thank you young man! And thanks to Melanie too! 😽🎶
Brings back many beautiful memories. They were one of my favorite groups. They are so cool and smooth. I remember being under the boardwalk at Coney Island during the summer in the 60s. Good choice
Crazy story about this song. The lead singer of the group, Rudy Lewis, had died the night before they were scheduled to record this. Rather than cancel the session, Johnny Moore took over the lead vocals. Imagine the strangeness of singing this, and doing it so beautifully, after losing a member. American music history.
I love seeing another generation discovering a timeless classic!
So do I
Ditto!
You are so great Twon! Such a happy great song...walking my dog in Mass and listening to you. Thanks for this. Take care dear young man
I'm 68 and it makes my heart smile to watch their reactions.
You would love OTIS REDDING sitting on the dock of the bay.
I still want him to do Spanish Harlem my Cali sister. If he liked this one he’ll like that one for sure.
60’s and 70’s Motown was so fun to grow up hearing, loads of talent!
I totally agree with this statement.
"Up On The Roof", "Spanish Harlem" should be next.
And "Saturday Night At The Movies, "This Magic Moment" and "Save The Last Dance For Me". All classics. My favorite is "Spanish Harlem" though, I must admit.
"On Broadway"..same group
This is, by far, one of the greatest tunes ever...and yes, it's from '64, take my word for it, I was there and I was 14 years old. Thank you very much for listening to it... Rock on.
I was 16, summertime, friend had a car, we filled it up, windows down, radio loud and cruised til we had to be home (parents curfew).
@@MadisonD941 Exactly! Do you remember 'swimming pool music'?
I was ten and I loved it.
The Drifters are awesome! Some of the best "chill" music you will ever hear!
Man, The Drifters are FIRE, were back in the sixties and still are now. This is one of my fave songs of all time.
Check out their other songs:
Save the Last Dance For Me
Spanish Harlem
Up on the Roof
Stand By Me
Saturday Night at the Movies
On Broadway
All good ones!
Stand By Me was originally done by Ben E King in 1961.
Let me apologize. The second version of the Drifters did have Ben E King as a member. It was called Ben E King and the Drifters.
@Gary R
Yes, Google articles have been leading me very astray with just who sang what. With what was actually The Drifters, what was Ben's after he left. What was The Drifters when he was replaced by that other great singer (forget his name momentarily)
Suffice is to say that pretty well any song that came from ANYONE that touched that group is phenomenal
On Broadway
It makes me happy to see a young person enjoy the music I've loved for so long.
Great songs all.
His jaw will drop when he hears The Platters.
Ben E King the lead singer of the drifters, sang Spanish Harlem. Just listen, great lyrics, and so addictively catchy...
Twon..
Loved your excited reaction..
Yep black oldies sounds R the Best 🎵🎶🎼🎤
One of my favorite old songs; came out in 1964. The Coasters were also great; songs: Poison Ivy, Yakkety Yak, Little Egypt, Charlie Brown. Another favorite of mine is Mary Wells; song: The One Who Really Loves You.
This is one of the best happy songs to sing along to.
Real voices, real instruments, real talent...period!
Another great one from the from these guys is Up on the Roof.

"Saturday Night At Movies" another great song by the Drifters
So mellow were the Drifters. They make me smile every time you play them.
Taking me back to high school with this one. 🎶🎶🎶 Absolutely love your excitement and love for the old school tunes. You have a million dollar smile there son‼️. Brightens up my day every time❣️ Keep up the great work!
Al Geen, " Let's stay together " anything by the legend Al Green. Old school Motown, memories
Such a classic! Beautiful!
Great group, great song.
You can’t go wrong with real oldies. I love to see someone your age listening to these songs. I was lucky enough to be exposed to oldies from my mom. Ive been wondering if younger ppl still get any exposure to music from waaay back. I’m glad to see that you are. 😊
I always play this song loud❤️❤️
Me too!!
Try Sitting on the Dock of the Bay. Otis REDDING
YOU LL LOVE IT. 🎤🎼🎵🎶🎼🔊
This was such a great groovy song to grab a partner and just melt into the song, with the ocean waves crashing...Awesome, Thanks Twon Peace

I have one word. TIMELESS
I Only Have Eyes 👀 For You, by The Flamingos has that old time feel, and is a classic. Check it out.
My all time favorite song from 1958
In coastal NC and SC, we call this kind of music "Beach music." The Drifters, the Platters, the Catalinas, the Band of Oz, Sam Cooke, etc.
Yep
Myrtle Beach Days
Great song,,,, I forgot when I first heard it ............ Thank you please do more
The very first single record (45) I ever owned. A gift from my big sister. Still have it 57 years later! Sounds good.
Their ability to make the vocals seemingly grow out of the instrumentals is amazing. And, we must mention the creative instruments at the beginning and throughout the song. Genius!

Great to see this channel again!!! Shout out from NC coast
You must hear This Magic Moment next. You’ll dig it for sure!
Love this!! Your reaction is just 😍😍
The beginning of this 1964 song makes a refernce to "on the roof" - they had a hit in 1962 called "Up On the Roof: that this is referencing - this also has a small musical refrain linked to that song - almost like sampling before it existed
I love to watch you fall in love with a song and get to groovin'. It's written all over your face and it's Awesome!! Enjoy this Timeless Classic!!

One of the best ever songs!!! I love this!! Has always been a favorite!
This song was made long before I was born(1972!), and I remember listening to the local Oldies station(this was before the Internet, and before streaming), and this was one of the songs I fell in love with, and made me fall in love with the whole Oldies genre, when music wasn’t so overproduced.
Best reactions on RUclips to music like this 😍😍 love your facial expressions
The Platters. Any of their songs.
In South Carolina in Myrtle Beach, home of the Shag (dance), this is beach music
Looking forward to this reaction. Very first time hearing this song ever? I was raised on this stuff, so I know the lyrics. Lonely teardrops from Jackie Wilson is a good one you should check out if you don’t know any Jackie Wilson songs.

FACTS!!!!
This is the music we listened to when we were teenagers. You need to do a reaction to Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison...Another good one.
I think the O'Jays "The Backstabbers" would be right in your wheelhouse
Best music era. So many unforgetible songs and singers and vocal groups. Pure talent.
Here's one you can't miss...
Desmond Dekker & the Aces
"Israelites"
Early 60's
Oh, that's just the Desmond Dekker song that made it in the US. Look for all his stuff: It Mek, Intensified, etc. You'll be SO happy!
This is one of my mother's favorite songs by one of her favorite groups. I'm old enough to be your father. In 1964 when this song came out my mom was 20 yrs old. It 's good to see young folks discovering this music.
You should check out Otis Redding. "Sittin on the Dock of the Bay"
So nice to see your reactions of the wonderful music I grew up listening to I'm loving it
I love watching young people loving and appreciating the music from my time. It has giving me a new hope for the youth of today
You have to hear the Tymes songs Somewhere and So in love great oldies.

Yes, Spanish Harlem. Up on the Roof is great too, but Spanish Harlem is in a class by itself.
Oh you reached way back! 🔥
1964. I was 6 years old my sisters were 2 and 4 and my brother was a newborn.
So glad you did this!! Please also do more Motown!!
LOVE me some Drifters!!! Thank you!!!!!!
The one thumbs down for this song should not be allowed to have ears!!
The Coasters - Yakety Yak! This one will get you going! Enjoy!
Up on the Roof is another great one !! Nice fun reaction to see young people enjoying the music I grew up listening to
Its, great seeing a younger generation enjoying the music I loved growing up (I grew up in the 60s, 70s) THERE is so much more for you to discover!!
AFTER SONGS LIKE THIS, LEAD SINGER BEN E. KING WENT ON HIS OWN AND MADE MONSTER HITS LIKE... SITTING ON THE DOCK OF THE BAY, AND... THERE IS A ROSE IN SPANISH HARLEM.... YOU WILL LOVE THESE TWO .
Welcome to what was known as Motown, some of the best Black music was created in the 60s and 70s played great music.
The dynamic duo..spice n soul..can"t go wrong.
My favorite music 🎵🥰
Whenever I sing, I like when accompaniment is coming from regular instruments. Good job reacting!

Great way to start the day, music for the soul. Luv ❤ ❤ ❤ this.
Oops, almost forgot 'Baby I need your lovin' , by the Four Tops. I like Johnny River's version of this song too.
It would be such a shame if all the old music from back in the day were lost or forgotten about. Thank you Twon!
Old songs were the best...Keep smiling, you are so watchable...
Save the last dance for me..Im real old SKOOL AND everybody wanted to be Charlie Thomas. WE SERENADED UNDER THE STREET LIGHTS--MAN IT WAS SO MUCH FUN
A good followup song to Boardwalk is "Sand in my Shoes".
Beautiful music.
This is such a great song! I was hoping to see a react for it. Thank you!
Great reaction!! Next song you should cover is 'Up on the roof' by the Drifters. I was fortunate enough to grow up listening to this

I LOVE this song. It makes me happy.
I was in the music scene as a young man.I did a show with the Drifters in PA, in 1961. All the groups from that time, mostly black, were great.
Wow! I didn't know this. Thanks for the info.
I love it! Up on the Roof is a great one similar to this !!!!
