Quite often, the bull is strong enough to bring the horse down and eviscerate it.

Great song as always ,very sensitive and full of meaning As for bullfighting, I was born in a country where this horrible thing is considered an art, a tradition . I have always hated it, but to be honest it's (as far as I know) the only country where a part of the “show” is done by a group of guys, with ridiculous costumes, of course, who face the bull in single file and bare hands (idiots). It takes place in Portugal and they are called forcados. I'm sure it should be easily found on YT for those who are curious.

This song is about the Andalusian / Spanish type of bullfighting. Whereas Cabrel is from southern France. They have a different way of doing things, without killing or hurting the animal: there are colored ribbons attached to the horns, and the men have to get one of them without getting hit...
Do you know what's the stupidest thing about bullfighting in France? French law punishes animal cruelty with 3 years in prison, and if the animal dies 5 years in prison. Except... in a region (the one near Spain). This means that by torturing a bull to death you can be either a hero or a criminal a few kilometers away. Vive la France !
I just don't understand why bullfights are allowed in that part of France along the Spanish border. Some say it's to preserve traditions. But do we have to preserve bad and crual traditions? If so, we'd still burn women as witches and watch gladiators fight to death. The double entendre is in the French expression "dormir sur ses deux oreilles" which literally translates as "sleeping on your two ears" which in this song refers ironically to the Spanish tradition of La Corrida where at the end of the bull fight, when the bull is vanquished, the ears and tail of the bull are severed to be offered to the matadors. So what Francis Cabrel really means is "unlike me - the bull - the torero's wife will sleep on her two ears both literally and figuratively because her husband will be alive and I won't be after he collects my ears".

But the words of his songs are really poetic and well written. They carry a lot of meaning and emotions !

As for bullfighting, I was born in a country where this horrible thing is considered an art, a tradition .
I have always hated it, but to be honest it's (as far as I know) the only country where a part of the “show” is done by a group of guys, with ridiculous costumes, of course, who face the bull in single file and bare hands (idiots).
It takes place in Portugal and they are called forcados. I'm sure it should be easily found on YT for those who are curious.

Do you know what's the stupidest thing about bullfighting in France? French law punishes animal cruelty with 3 years in prison, and if the animal dies 5 years in prison. Except... in a region (the one near Spain). This means that by torturing a bull to death you can be either a hero or a criminal a few kilometers away. Vive la France !
I just don't understand why bullfights are allowed in that part of France along the Spanish border. Some say it's to preserve traditions. But do we have to preserve bad and crual traditions? If so, we'd still burn women as witches and watch gladiators fight to death. This is even more insane if you think that a good chunk of Spain neighboring southwestern France is Catalonia, where they've banned bullfights. But is Catalonia really Spain? That's another (political) issue that I'll let others debate.
If one of these towns stops doing bullfighting for just one year it will lose the term of "tradition" and will have to stop
