The Platters have been my favorites for 71 years, since I was 9 years old. The expression on your face while listening to them tells me you feel the same. I love watching you enjoy their beautiful music.
Absolutely beautiful song!!❤ And yes, certainly diamonds in the ear💎💎💎 It was released in 1959. I remember my parents just loved it! Thanks for the reaction Harri!!
Im 43, and i say it doesnt get much better. I grew up listening to this era of music, my dad always listened to the oldies from his younger days and ive grew up to love it. He passed in 2012 at the age of 72 from Alziemers and im glad along so many things he passed down to me, the love of this music was one of them.
This was from the movie "Rock Around The Clock" from 1956. There were a few 'rock n' roll" movies during that time that showcased a lot of great talent.
This is another fabulous group from the 50's-60's. This was the time of classy romantic heartfelt songs. Sadly they don't make music like this anymore. They had so many great hits such as "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes", "Enchanted", "(You've Got) The Magic Touch", "My Prayer", "Twilight Time", "Harbor Lights", "The Great Pretender" etc.
My mother loved doo wop music, so I heard a lot of it growing up. Most of my friends thought it was odd that I liked it so much. I believe I like it even more now that I am 70 years old.
This was my mothers and stepfather song. When they renewed their vows my sister and I were at the front of the Church. This song came out of the speakers. It was such a surprise. We tried not to laugh. She should have warned us. It is a beautiful song
Twilight Time, Smoke Gets in Your Eyes and The Great Pretender next please- if you haven’t already. My dad had all their albums and I still know all the words- I’m 68😊
One of the best scenes in the movie War of the Roses is of Michael Douglas, drunk on his butt is singing this while playing it on water glasses.....priceless. That said one of the most beautiful love songs ever recorded. Smooth as velvet.
The Platters have been on my play list before we used playlist. I learned to dance to their music in the 50's. Of course, we had their singles in the family collection of 45's.
Sweet! When you run out of songs by The Platters to listen to, check out some of these fifties doo wop style ballads -- The Crests "Sixteen Candles", The Dells "Oh What A Night", The Five Satins "In The Still Of The Night", The Penguins "Earth Angel", The Chantels "Maybe", The Skyliners "Since I Don't Have You", The Tune Weavers "Happy, Happy Birthday Baby", Ann Cole "Are You Satisfied", The Mellows "Sweet Lorraine", The Falcons "You're So Fine", The Capris "There's a Moon Out Tonight", ... YMMV.
A simple, sweet, satisfying song. I am thankful that I was able to share an experience with my son regarding The Platters. Some years ago we both flew to Florida and went to Busch Gardens in Tampa and while there at the park, we stopped in and watched the new iteration of "The Platters" and am hapy to say that the new group was wonderful. Not one original member left, but, the lead singer of this iteration was hand-picked by the last remaining members of the original line-up. And, my son like them! I am in agreement with you Harri, and, you said it perfectly, "Diamonds in my ears." Yes, Tony's voice was iconic. It's too bad that greed gets in the way of the artists' ability to enjoy lifelong success singing music they love. If you read the story of The Platters, you'll find a lot of lawsuits over naming rights and all of that junk. But, humans are greedy, selfish, pathetic creatures and they will ruin a good thing more often than not.
Oh my! This brings back such memories. Listening to Radio Luxembourg, as a kid, with my grown-up sisters doing their make-up etc. before going out on the town.
I always wonder why the phrase " can do make" was in this song. Nonetheless, this is one of my favorite karaoke go to songs. Very nice reaction here, Hari.
The four great voices to come out of R&B in that era was Tony Williams, Clyde McPhatter, Jackie Wilson, and Sam Cooke. Sam of course was the most important and most influential.
The Platters continued as a group with replacements but never had the success they achieved with this lineup, especially with Tony Williams as lead vocalist which is what we have here
The Platters were such a fantastic group. They were so classy. Tony Williams voice is a natural wonder. Thanks Harri for this. 👏👏🇨🇦

Love it! 😊 Their harmony is outstanding!

That was the best slow dance I ever had!
The Platters music from the good old days at its best! Thanks Harri! 🙂
The Platters were one of my parents’ favorite groups. I can see them dancing in the living room to this right now.
Spellbinding ❤ ABSOLUTELY Delicious ❤
INCREDIBLE VOCALS❤❤
LOVE LOVE LOVE
Classic. ❤❤❤❤❤
Oh, Hari? Aren't they so beautiful? The voices are so rich. I wish we had this music again. It is heavenly.

One of The Greatest Groups and Voice Tony Williams One of The Greatest Voices Ever. Amazing
They knew how to write 'em and sing 'em back then.
I AM 72 I BEEN LISTENING TO THE PLATTER SINCE I WAS YOUNG CHILD AND NEVER GOT TIRED OF THEM
My mother loved doo wop music, so I heard a lot of it growing up. Most of my friends thought it was odd that I liked it so much. I believe I like it even more now that I am 70 years old.

This was the era of REAL music which is melody, harmony and sensible rhythm!
Saw the platters at the Avalon Theater.
Tony yelled out to the audience: "What Time is it?"
The entire audience, in unison replied "TWILIGHT TIME"
It was so thrilling to hear all the Great songs and music of my day. I love to hear the old music still.
We're up to Tiffany's level of "diamonds in your ears" with this one. One of my mum's favourites!
My Prayer, Smoke Gets In Your Eyes and Twilight Time are some of my favorites by the Platters. I am blessed to have seen them in person. Beautiful!❤️
they had a million hits. golden era of doo wop and rock n roll and classic jazz
We need to thank our reactors musically and politically. They are doing America a great favor
I grew up hearing this on my sisters recordplayer and radios, love it
My mom played the Platters music a lot when I was a kid so I grew up listening to them. They really were great !
I have always loved this song!❤
What a wonderful group they were! My first song that I was introduced to as a kid by my teenage family friend. ❤
I was a little kid when I first heard this because of my teenage brother. I have loved it my entire life.
Absolutely gorgeous! ❤
I saw The Platters down the shore in NJ (1976). Just gorgeous voices, songs! ❤❤❤❤
They have many,many,many diamonds.
I remember this from when I was a child, and I've always loved it, and play it quite often.
Another song that I have loved since I was five years old! Thanks Harri 🌺✌️
Twilight Time, Smoke Gets in Your Eyes and The Great Pretender next please- if you haven’t already. My dad had all their albums and I still know all the words- I’m 68😊
We used to slow dance to this song when i was a teenager! And many others of theirs. Love it❤ Thanks for the memories!
Absolutely loved the Platters. Pretty much, they were the soundtrack to my high school days. Way back when. 😂
There's NOTHING in this world like a wonderful tenor!!!
Agree 100% on the will always be the definitive version of this song.
One of the best scenes in the movie War of the Roses is of Michael Douglas, drunk on his butt is singing this while playing it on water glasses.....priceless. That said one of the most beautiful love songs ever recorded. Smooth as velvet.
My older sister taught me how dance playing this song over and over as a preteen. I love it. Thanks.
This is a classic.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤A beautiful song!!!!!❤❤❤
Unbelievable voice
The Platters have been on my play list before we used playlist. I learned to dance to their music in the 50's. Of course, we had their singles in the family collection of 45's.
Greatness Harri, pure greatness!
Harri my friend, I'm an old retired guy who watches a ton of reaction videos. You are my favorite, the absolute best.

Love the Platters, grew up with the oldies....I was a 70's kid.
You've discovered the magic of the '50's!!!
When you hear 👂 magic and listening to other bands or groups do it so badly you can’t believe it’s the same
Saw them in 1972.
The Platters was our music to waltz to in the high school gyms on Friday nights.
The best ever and I got to see them. Oh my God.
As I clicked on his one I thought, "Harri, get ready for diamonds".
Love your choices for music reviews. Please review Eddie Arnold MAKE THE WORLD GO AWAY and his many other beautiful songs 🎵
Thank you

I played their greatest hits album on vinyl the other day and flipped it back over and listened to the whole thing a 2nd time. They're that good.
Alan Freed came into the scene and sat down center at the table. The DJ who started it all for Rock and Roll.
Your smile says it all!!
Oh my! This brings back such memories. Listening to Radio Luxembourg, as a kid, with my grown-up sisters doing their make-up etc. before going out on the town.
A great song, I heard it in films, in advertising, on the radio, but as a child I didn’t know who was singing it, good memories. 😊
smoke gets in your eyes by the platters
AHH‼️ The Platters - one of my favorite groups. And Tony Williams had a magic voice 👏🏻🥰‼️ Great reaction Harri 👍🏻🥰‼️
Recorded in 1955.
Also check out "Twilight Time" and of course "Harbour Lights"
After watching Gangs of London, I now associate this lovely song with horrific torture.
But if you want to hear the BEST VOICE in the world CURRENTLY - Check out Dimash Kudaibergen from Kazakhstan singing "SOS". UNBELIEVABLE!!!!
I know this is from a movie, but if the club were real and back in that day, it's sad that the Platters wouldn't be welcome to dine there.
Well it's a new day in America. It's not the past.!!!!
@@sharonlindseay3980 Ya think?
I don't want to get bashed by a lot of people, for saying something. I will change and say this though, great band great song. Love the Platters.
I always wonder why the phrase

Very nice reaction here, Hari.
Love it! Have you tried The Mills Brothers ? Very similar vocal group of that era. I like “Cab Driver,” but I’m sure anything would be good by them.
You should try the female singer ( Zola Taylor ) and her songs called ( Dance with me Henry / He's Mine )
The four great voices to come out of R&B in that era was Tony Williams, Clyde McPhatter, Jackie Wilson, and Sam Cooke. Sam of course was the most important and most influential.
I feel like crying. It brings fond memories even for a white guy!
👋👋👋

The Platters continued as a group with replacements but never had the success they achieved with this lineup, especially with Tony Williams as lead vocalist which is what we have here
