God bless the soul of the late great masterpiece/masterclass of a singer/songwriter, world class entertainer, and a man amongst men! Bobby Rydell! Rest in glory forever!
I first heard Volare when I was a child, while sitting next to my father in his hospital room. My father looked out the window, smiled and flew to the stars with Bobby Rydell. I will be grateful to him forever for freeing my father’s heart and soul from that hospital bed.
My late mother-in-law was a great admirer of Mr. Rydell and _this_ song. In memory, I can hear her singing along. I met Mr. Rydell at a dinner concert being performed by James Darren in May of 2014. He looked pretty much as he did here save for his hair being a light grey. He still was the matinee idol.
Im from Australia and Bobby sang at the Glass House in Port Macquarie a few years ago. I didn't go to the show . My favourite Song he sang was the Cha Cha Cha. It's a shame he died.
Bobby Rydell was one of those singers I really liked to hear in those days. He had a good voice and a nice personality as far as I could appreciate as I never was near him. And I remember I liked very much his version of this Italian song.
Remembering Bobby Rydell born on April 26, 1942. He was an American singer and actor who mainly performed rock and roll and traditional pop music. In the early 1960s he was considered a teen idol. His most well-known songs include "Wildwood Days," "Wild One" and "Volare" (cover of an Italian song by Domenico Modugno); in 1963 he appeared in the musical film Bye Bye Birdie. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bobby_Rydell
Came across this video. What a talent Bobby Rydell was and what a fantastic song. I was a little tyke and remember my mother singing and dancing to this song on the radio.
Bobby does the best version of this song. Only a little guy but he can sure belt out a song. I had the pleasure of seeing him in concert a few years ago. He put on a great show not only with his singing but sharing some of his stories from the past and telling jokes. His got a great sense of humor. I got his autograph and spoke to him briefly after the show. A really nice guy.
The best version is the original by the Italian singer who also wrote the song and won the Grammy award for it not this bubble gum version the best cover was by Dean Martin
@@frankporto2646 To each his own. I was referring to the English version of this song not the Italian version. Dean Martin did a great version but Bobby’s version for me is the best!
What is amazing about this arrangement is that you would never think the original -Nel Blu etc, could be equaled, understanding it could never be topped. Great job, whoever put this together in the studio. And Bobby was the perfect singer for this material.
Bobby Rydell was a huge talent. Not only was he a great singer, he could dance and act as we saw in the movie Bye Bye Birdie. Actually, I read that his dancing in Bye Bye Birdie was as good as the professional dancers in the dance scenes.
I was 7 months old when this was recorded. I`ve always thought I was born 15 years too late. Love the music from this era. What I wouldn`t give to have been in the studio audience for this recording. Hope you`re well Bobby. Love you. xxx
I m adding another comment learning about his death. I'm heartbroken. He was my heartthrob. Loved him. He was one of the greatest singers ever!!!. Such an entertainer and always smiling!. But now I'm not smiling. I'm in tears. All the philly guys were great. Wish those days were back. RIP BOBBY. Y R GONE BUT I WILL NEVER FORGET YOU. LOVE U ALWAYS. .😢😢😥😥🥺😞🙏🙏🙏⚘🌷💔
Bobby Rydell! One of my favorite singers of all time! He was talented- singer, dancer, actor, musician. Extremely popular, good looking, charisma, the total package!
We lost the late and great Bobby Rydell today in Philadelphia this was one of his best songs me the Masterblaster play all of his music on my internet radio show Classic Soul RIP.
I knew about Bobby from his music, I was born in the 21st century, so I wasn’t that familiar with him, 10 minuets ago I ended my conversation with him, I met him at a restaurant in philly. Truly a wonderful conversation we all had. Such a great man! cya soon Bobby!
Bobby Rydell, a real Fav of mine beginning in grade school to jr high..🥰 That adorable Smile & real cool pompadour & of course his “Magnificent Voice”!❤️🎤RIP BR (one of the boys of summer 🎼) Thanks for the wonderful songs!🌈💔🌹🕊🎵📻🌟📺
This song/video arrested me as It took me back to the moment, ah yes, THE MOMENT,.............55 years ago to be precise. When I heard it again, it did things to me, it caught me cold in my tracks !!!!!! So I listened to it a dozen times , or more. The rest you can figure out. Thanks and great great video , and Bobby, keep singing it !!!!
It's the female back up group that makes this song and others he recorded great. Those of us who were teens back then don't know how good we had it. Watching Bandstand back in the day, it seems Dick Clark promoted Fabian, Bobby Rydell, and Frankie Avalon. They appeared often on the show, but then it was from Philly in those days, so, yeah, natural.
I love this video!!!!. I LOVE BOBBY. he was one of my heartthrobs. He was such an entertainer. He could anything. Wish that whole Philly group was still singing. It was such a great time in my life. Memories will always will be with me forever. Thks first this video. Miss all these great songs and artists. Bobby was such a showman. !!. Love ya Bob. .🥰🥰🥰🥰😇👏👏👏👏👏💝💝💝🌷🌷🌷
What a powerhouse of talent, how one person could contain so much talent amazes me. Love this song and also the clip from the Danny Thomas show where he is a singing waiter. Would really like to have known him personally, seemed like he would have been a great friend.

Bobby Rydell, the epitome of the early ‘60s “teen idol,” who parlayed that fame into a starring role opposite Ann-Margret in the 1963 film “Bye Bye Birdie,” died Tuesday April 5, 2022 at age 79. The cause of death was pneumonia. His death just days away from his 80th birthday (April 26, 2022) was confirmed by radio legend Jerry Blavat, Rydell’s longtime friend from the singer’s South Philadelphia stomping grounds. Bobby Rydell had 34 singles chart on the Billboard Hot 100, the most well-remembered of which include “Wild One,” which reached No. 2, and “Volare,” a No. 4 hit. Other top 10 songs included “Swingin’ School,” “The Cha-Cha-Cha.” His run of top 10 songs began with “We Got Love,” which reached No. 6 in 1959, and ended with “Forget Him” in 1964.
This is the best version, and maybe Bobby's best song. I just love it. I can't get over the "kids" clapping on the one and three beats. Also just found out the Swan record label belonged to Dick Clark.
God bless the soul of the late great masterpiece/masterclass of a singer/songwriter, world class entertainer, and a man amongst men! Bobby Rydell!

I came here as soon as I read about his passing. He had a voice like an angel and now he's among them. May he RIP.

Three weeks shy of 80 is 80 to me, close enough.
Bobby was my teenage dream
Of all the early singers of this song, Bobby Rydell was the best!
Agree. A professional musician who backed up many said the same thing

Rydell simply sang the pants off of Volare-- this remains my favorite version
