HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 15 ноя 2022
- This short CNC router video shows how extreme and detailed the MK2 Longmill CNC router can get with your CNC router projects. This is the detail you can get on CNC projects when doing CNC engraving on wood. The easy one-bit project seen in this video is done ONLY with the Extreme Detail 30° Engraving bit from IDC Woodcraft.
This type of intricate v-groove engraving carve can be made to almost make your CNC Project have a 3D effect with the right design.
To carve this detail, you want to use hardwood, not pine or poplar.

I have this bit and I can't wait to really put it through its paces with this file. Thanks Garrett!!
Michael, let me know how it turns out for you brother!
Thanks Garrett. I showed this to my wife and she loves it. She thinks it would make a nice hot pad or doily to set her flowers on. Going to profile a 6” dia cutout path and carve this on 1/4” maple or cherry. Thanks again Garrett for the file. Your the best!!!!
David, thats a great idea! Shoot me a picture once you get it cut of how it turns out. Id like to see it.
Cool design and great detail Garrett.
Tommy, glad to hear you liked this one brother!
Thanks for the file Garrett for file it's very much appreciated. I've ordered the bit, and thanks
Ron, you are so welcome my friend. Hope you enjoy the fun file.
Good video Gerrad. Been messing with these
carloscastanyeda, glad you liked this one my friend! Happy CNCing.
so nice wish i could like it twice
PJ, glad you liked the video my friend!
Oh man, the longmill vs journeyman.... I was torn. I just pulled the trigger on the longmill, you turned me on to it. Still not 100% sure I made the right decision, but you have me convinced the longmill is a good choice. And I truly believe either would be a good machine. I'm just looking to have fun with it, love making things, and tools/toys in the shop are what it's all about for me. My kids are going to be giving me lots of ideas of what we should make with it.
I used your link, hope you get your burger and a coffee!
Josh, right on brother congrats on ordering your longmill! And welcome to the amazing world of CNC. It sounds like your kids will be keeping you occupied with the project ideas! I'm looking forward to seeing what you create.
That is amazing detail, wow!! 🤯 That takes the game to another level.
Looks like I'll be getting another bit now. 😃
Thanks for posting this, buddy. Im glad you had some "you" time so you could be bored.
Joe, isnt that level of detail amazing? Make that design on your own and let me know what you think!
@@IDCWoodcraft Oh I will buddy. I gotta start with that address sign first, like we talked about. 😃👍👍
I just purchased some bits from you. Wish I had added this one to my order, Thanks for the file.
I'm going to send you some coffee. Hopefully others will as well.
Harold, thank you brother! Hope you enjoy making the file my friend.
Garrett, thank you for the great video and project, cant wait to try it out. I recently bought the 48 x 30 Longmill because of your videos and recomendation and love it. I really appreciated having to put it together as I learned everything about the maintainance and adjustments for the future. I was inspired to purchase several bits after watching this video and appreciate the quick order responses. I have one challenge though (only 1 ?) i am having a hard time getting the 1/8 " IDC collet to hold a bit. The one that came from longmill works great and has not slipped. Have you any thoughts on this as I would like to order another collet or 2 for the future. Thanks again for all you do !!!
Bill, shoot me an email and we can work through your problem!
thank you for your time and help. im tryiing to look at the longmill but cant get on the website
Jerry, sorry to hear you are having a bit of trouble with the Sienci website. Give it a few minutes and their website should work again.
Hi Garrett. You do some great work with your Longmill. But with Shapeoco introducing a ball screw driven machine, like the Onefinity, do you think Longmill will go this direction in the future? If they don't, do you ever see yourself moving to a ball screw machine?
Hi Matt. Yes, Longmill will introduce a ball screw machine. It's probably about a year out. As far as I, I have already upgraded to a much larger machine that is rack and pinion.
garrett thanks for the help videos but 1 thing you haven't covered is rpm's effect on the tool bits i have a dewalt 660 and it only does 10000 rpm does that effect the bits anyway ?
Jim, it does effect the tool life. You will need to slow down your feedrate a proportional amount to how much you reduce your RPM
Afternoon, Garrett, I purchased your "silver bullet" bit and your 0.015 Rad x 10 deg taper ball nose bit.. the problem is I don't see these in my Vectric Pro tool list. What am I missing? Can you do a video on how to add bits to the tool list Vectric Pro.
Harold, here is a video on how to add bits to the database: ruclips.net/video/670Xzgf0LiA/видео.html
Depending on the toolpath, the bit might show up.
Do you know if I can purchase a laser for a 4x4 scv ? I'm possibly going to buy a 4x4 phantom cnc and would like to incorporate or fix to the gantry/ head, a laser?
Newday, you can definitely incorporate a laser onto your machine but you are going to be limited in terms of output power from the retrofit. Consider getting a standalone C02 laser if you want to do serious laser work day in and day out.
Cool stuff Garrett. How long does it take to run that on the Longmill. I'll be ordering some bits from you as soon as my machine comes (tomorrow hopefully). Thanks for all you do.
Myerin, it took about an hour to cut out but that varies depending on how fast you run your machine. Congrats on your new machine brother! I bet you are excited to get that bad boy all set up
Hi Garrett do you have a video using Vcarve desktop pro to cut around lettering or a stencil to make it stand out I seem to have trouble finding the right toolpath to do so.
Paul, I don't have a video on this but try the "quick engrave" toolpath and see if it fits your needs. Heres a video from vectric: ruclips.net/video/_ZJq2Vde18g/видео.html
@@IDCWoodcraft will have a look
I usually hate background music with videos but this was an exception. Thanks for being generous and providing the file for free!
The only thing is that your web server has apparently reached capacity. 503 error. Maybe put the download on one of those free download sites? I'll keep trying though. thanks again
Tralfazy, glad you liked the video brother! Try to download the file a bit later, I'm having a few minor bugs with my server.
@@IDCWoodcraft I got the file now! Thanks again
I am trying to make serving trays with engraved sayings, I am finding that everything is to deep. Is there a way to adjust the depth the bit goes down? I have been messing with this for hours n
Bastarache, try using a flat depth for your Vcarves. Here's a PDF from Vcarve on it: docs.vectric.com/docs/V9.0/Aspire/ENU/Help/Toolpaths/VCarve%20Toolpath%20Creator/VCarve%20Toolpath.html
When you set a flat depth, you tell the bit how deep into the wood it is allowed to cut.
Hey Bro - It has been eerily quiet from IDC Woodcraft lately. I hope all is well with you & the business.
Alp, everything is going good over here on my end brother. They holidays have been keeping me busy lately but thank you for checking in on me! I hope the holiday season is treating you well my friend!
@@IDCWoodcraft Glad to hear everything is good with you Garrett. The holidays do have a way of keeping people busy. The holidays have been keeping me on the busy side a bit too. Since Etsy kicked me off their platform, about a year ago, I have been struggling, with a few different platforms, to market my products - without too much success. I even looked at Amazon, but decided not to use them as they had too many rules, too much control, and was hard to get into. Then I heard they had started a Handmade section (Amazon Handmade). It it also had a lot of rules, a lot of control, and was hard to get into, but I thought I would give it a try. After a few weeks of back & forth emailing, they finally approved me. It took a while, but sales finally began to happen - 2 to 3 a month, then once a week, then a couple a week, then 3 to 5 a week - where it held steady for a few weeks. Then it started to pick up again - 5 to 7 a week, then a couple a day, then 3 a day - where it again leveled off (with an occasional 4 a day). Then yesterday it hit 8 orders for the day. I have never had that many sales in a day before, on any platform. I am starting to have difficulty keeping up. Maybe Amazon Handmade is the place to be. Have an awesome rest of the week Garrett. Don't work too hard.
@@alpscraftshack599 I will absolutely have to look into that. And I have to say I'm really glad to see it working for you. Really really glad!
What program do you machine with I'm using mach 3 is there anything better than this?
Matthew, I personally recommend gSender for the Longmill. But if you are using Mach3 already and you like it, then stick with that. Its a very reliable and proven software package.
Good morning Garret. Was it a early morning or all night.
Chuck, this was just a quick early morning CNC job!
If this doesn’t put a smile on your face, your not a wood worker
This old man, true that my friend. I could'nt agree more.
Mr Fromme sorry this is off topic
would it be possible to do a video on the touch plate thought i was doing things right watched one of your videos and a couple other videos on youtube im so confused now please help
Wolf Man, that is a great idea. Ill add it to the video list brother!
@@IDCWoodcraft this is why i watch your videos you are so accomidating im glad that you take the time to listen and do these videos if it wasnt for you i would never have bought my longmill you are great sourcw of knowledge nice to see you are willing to pass it on thank you
Just ordered the bit and downloaded the files, Thank you, I placed the order for two bits, but between your web site and PayPal something got lost, I'll place another oreder in a day or two, Throw me in an extra sticker so I can pass it along to a friend that it is just starting questioning me about my Longmill 48 x 30, trying to throw some business your way. Jeff
Jeff, glad you like the file brother! Stick with me through the website bugs. I am still working out the PayPal integration on my end.
I bought this bit. What’s the depth you used for this particular carve?
Haveeair, I used a flat depth of 0.050"
@@IDCWoodcraft thanks for the reply. For some reason, I can’t get details like this with my carves using the same bit. When it gets to the small details, they either break apart or just look really messy. Not sure what I’m doing wrong
Unfortunately the download link leads to a 404 page not found error.
Gary, try this link brother: bit.ly/3NhfUFs
