    Instead of dragging the corner of the stl to resize and re-centering with the button you can hold shift while dragging the corner of the image to resize and it will keep the image centered. Saves you a bit of time.

      yeah, with a little knowledge you can basically print or cut a test page..bravo! sorry but i was hoping for so much more in this video.. I don't have a CNC but even if i did, i wouldn't have much interest in printing ("cutting") a piece of clipart from within the application, all CNC software provide the same examples as a 'test print'.. it would have been 10x more valuable if he used a generic image outside of the clipart to really show how to do something unique .

      @@brendanfitzpatrick7399 Believe me if you just got a machine setup from scratch and did all the wiring etc then you dont give a crap about value or where your test piece came from. You just want to make sure your machine works as intended and with your choices of the many softwares you decided to use to create it. Have you ever printed a test page from a new printer? Well thats all it is. Frankly a 3D eagle in wood beats the hell out of a sheet of paper your gonna throw in the trash anyway.

      With all due respect to Ms Fitzpatrick, your video is exactly what I wanted and what I expected. It is a step that needs to be taken in my learning process. This is all new to me.
      Kudos to you for taking the time (yours and ours) to clearly explain the steps that you were taking. That will enable me to perform a similar on my computer and CNC as I progress in the process of properly using these powerful and innovative new tools. The pace was certainly not too slow. THANKS so very much.

      @@PawPawsWorkShop If you go back and look at 21:09, you can see that the side on the project isn't flat either because the wood is slightly bowed or because the particle board below isn't level with the rest of the table. It would appear that the particle runner isn't tied down completely or perhaps there's something under it? I can't tell.

    Hi Paw Paw,
    A couple quick questions… so you did it all in one pass with the 1/8” bn, so it would have been cutting fairly deep. I heard you say 8-10% step-over, so you stepped over somewhere under .0125? And might I ask your feed rate? I’m very much a novice, and as such would have thought that deep a cut would have broken the bit.

  • @jimgranfor3856

    I enjoyed the video. The minor problem with online tutorials is the video is never clear. I totally lost how you connected the vectric lines before going to g file.

    • @PawPawsWorkShop
      @PawPawsWorkShop  3 года назад

      I’m not sure what you are asking. Vectric lines? After selecting the bit and creating the toolpath you just save the toolpath and the file so that you can pull up the file at a letter time. Then save the gcode and carve. Yes, you do need to use the correct post processor. I can’t tell you which one to use due to the vast different types of machines and controllers

    Am I missing something or isn't it a bug in the software that it did not inform you that part of the carving was above the material top dimension? I mean the software knows the material thickness and while it could not detect errors in the physical material it should be able to detect when it creates gcode that is above the top of the work?

    • @PawPawsWorkShop

    Phil what's the benefit to using the Z-height plate vs. just jogging the bit to the top of the material surface and setting Z that way?

    • @PawPawsWorkShop
      @PawPawsWorkShop  3 года назад

      It is more accurate to use the z plate for consistency. You can use the manual and it will work however you may be off several thousandths. For most projects that may be just fine.

      Lightburn is designed for lasers. If you have a laser attached to the CNC then you most likely can control the laser with Lightburn

    Hi Paw Paw, thank you very much for the great tutorial. As I'm new to that usage of a CNC I might have some beginners's questions. I'm somehow confused about the different heights. Material height is 0.75 inch. After inserting the zero plane the model height (11:00) was shown as 0.593 inch. The shape height was 0.6997 (25:25) and was slightly too big. How are model and shape height linked? Thank you very much, Thomas

    Hello I want to make wooden fishing lures wit inside cavities for wire and weights and rattles
    I’m looking to make 2 sides; left and right
    Once wire and hardware inside the idea is to glue both side together to make one a one completed fish model
    Is it possible and what machine would you recommend
    Budget is short and I need to make it a bit bigger
    So in the mean time I would learn what I can out of your videos

    Can you use V Carve Pro with the x-carve, and how much does the V Carve Pro software cost ? Thanks Paw Paw. Dennis

      Yes, you can use VCarve Pro with the XCarve. After you create you project you can save the gcode and use Easel as the sender to carve the project. Go to Vectrics.com for pricing.

    Paw paw I just started with a 3018 cnc machine and I tried laser grbl I can't get laser grbl to work as well as easel I made something in easel and imported it to grbl but when I save it on the off line controler it saves as a different type of file that I guess the machine dont read. I would like to do this eagle head because I use to be in the 101st but I don't think the free of esiel file has it. However looking at the cost of both v carve and easel the price is around the $500 range i already do laser engraving with light burn but there's is a yearly subscription how does these cnc subscription work and how many computers can I put them on because I have 3 for lightburn and would like to do the same for any other program so I can grab any of the laptops I have set up to use the program.

I am currently looking a two machines that are much smaller. I will be putting them through there paces to see how they will do. I will start to introduce them toward the end of March and into April

    1) Can the Foxalien Masuter Pro CNC use this VCarve Pro software?
    2) Can the Foxalien Masuter Pro CNC do that kind of service you did, as in the video? Or is a stronger spindle needed?
    Thank you

Appreciate your work and tutorials as I'm on a steep learning curve and soaking it all in. Easel looks to be a good product, but from what I can tell does not have 3D functionality as VCarve Pro.

      Easel is good and is improving all the time. You are correct about the 3D function. You need VCarve Desktop, Aspire or Fusion 360. VCarve Desktop allows you to alter the 3D but not create the STL files
