What I really like about this ending position is that the white bishop is the laser beam that structure the mate... and that this is the very bishop that Liang decided to move back early in the game to prevent the black knight from taking it, and that is what lead to an unknown position in the first place, plus this bishop never moved again until the end. So this beshop is the real MVP here.

Absolutely gorgeous mate with two pieces pinned, the queen burying the king rather than helping it, and a long-range bishop being one of the foundations of an actual smothered mate. I'm writing "actual" because there are some channels that use the term "smothered mate" even when the king is not completely surrounded by its own pieces. I wish these channels stopped doing that.

Last video I was sad that Agad simply said why the move I thought of didn't work as a start and instead showed the winning move, which lapses into the move that I thought of but with one fewer option for the opponent. But this vid the analysis felt complete and befitting of such a great mate.

I went with the rook sac for the finding waldo mate moment, but only because I could clearly see the first three moves, I was also thinking about a knight to E8 as a funny line, but I couldn't see past the first move :(

Awonder doesn't live too far from me. There was a local news article a few weeks ago on how he is going to step back from chess so he can attend college. He wants to do a lot of different things with his life. Good for him, a loss for us, especially those of is in the Madison, Wisconsin area.

Kudos to Mammadzada for being such a graceful loser and allowing this beautiful checkmate. She could have resigned several moves before, when she realised the game was lost, but she let it play out and so we got to see this truly beautiful checkmate, in the style of old masters. This is something to be respected, it's equally important to lose with style as it is to win with style.

Dude, you devoted an entire paragraph to someone who got their ass handed to them in a chess match, lol. How about you talk about the winner instead? He pretty much had this match under control out of the gate. Liang played her like a puppet master.
