Just imagine the terror on his face as he sees his opponent underpromote. At first he must have thought of it as a mistake, but then he would have realised the beauty of such a thing. Brilliant.
My guess is he would know he was lost as soon as he saw the bishop. He probably saw the stalemate with a queen promotion and didn't consider anything else. But the second the opponent touched the bishop, he'd know the stale wasn't happening.
But really, aside from the failure to consider the underpromotion, it was a beautiful plan to win a half point in the tournament. I often think of stalemates as something a mediocre player blunders into when they have superior material rather than something done to force a draw, in the manner of perpetual check. It was a beautiful game on both accounts, but the underpromotion was so genius.
The human drama here is delightful. Black must have thought he had finally fooled the pest into a stalemate, only to realize that the shoe was on the foot!

IMO it is silly, made necessary by a rule that doesn't make sense. Can you name any other competition that can be declared a draw when one side is obviously dominating? It should be like Chinese chess; if you run out of moves, you lose.

It's something with adjusting the volume, but I don't know what exactly. Probably either turning it slightly down to avoid overblowing the mike or sound feedback effect, or adjusting the sound of moving pieces
I just learned recently that he is turning off his computer speakers when he does that. Apparently the mic will pick up the computer speaker output so the piece noise is louder, but I think it is just tradition now haha

As an amateur my mindset is always set to get another queen on the board but the calculations professionals do to realise a “lesser” piece is the stronger piece is great to watch. And not only to avoid stalemate but using the bishop to kick away the opposing queen. Great content as always
