    Hey everyone! There’s obviously been a lot of updates on the situation with Virtua Fighter since this video released, and rather than taking the time to script out a new one and risk being even less timely, I just made a quick unscripted video about it over on the side channel. I think there’s reason to be excited for the future of VF!

    We are all in the same mind now. This is a big deal. the biggest problem is that the production team's mind is still thinking about the 90s arcade era. In the same sense, we constantly buy up consoles with examples like Street Fighter, Tekken or Soul Calibur. I think the production team has a problem fundamentally. I don't think they're thinking of releasing a console for the classic series even if there's no new work.

    • @mainaHighway
      @mainaHighway 7 месяцев назад +12

      In other words, beyond the idea of releasing a new work, the production team is a total rejection of console users. Even if you look at it right now, you can see that VF is only done in Japan, and rarely in other countries. just looking at this situation, I think they are ignoring console users too much. It feels like it comes from the arrogance of the production team. we know VF4FT and VF5R when they don't release consoles already.

    Dude. This video makes me sad. I mean, I'm so happy for the state of fighting games in general. The big three, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, and Tekken are putting in the work but Virtua Fighter is seriously lagging behind. And it's sad because one could make the argument that Virtua Fighter is the best and most important fighting game of them all. It paved the way for 3D gameplay, has seriously deep fighting mechanics, and refuses to sell or give into the gimmicks of so many modern games. But it's seriously lagging behind the others in terms of marketing But I refuse to give up hope. This series is an important part of my childhood. This and Tekken were the games I've got the fondest memories of. I have faith Virtua Fighter will one day come back in a big way. We just have to be patient and enjoy what's available now.

      I am sure that they will simplify certain inputs or place moves in different inputs to make learning characters easier like what they kinda did for Final Showdown while still adding moves or removing some moves. That and they added what is essentially the bound mechanic from Tekken 6 to VF5FS so we can maybe expect a crazier combo system for VF6 or in a remake.

    You know, that single quote on rollback made me wonder if SEGA still hold resentment for SEGA of America's success in the 90's. Because to say "Sega of America repeatedly said to us though "Put in rollback anyway!" with a bitter smile, suggests staff there might still be resentful. The tragedy is Sega of America weren't wrong. VF5US was made barebones as fuck with hardly any customization. Hardly any customization is there to this day beyond the crossover costumes. You get online, tournament, arcade, and that's pretty much it. If the game had JUST been been delayed and given rollback, it wouldn't have had the godawful dropoff it has faced. The legacy of VF deserves better in this golden age of fighters. Rollback could've been the way but nope. This was mainly a cheap gift for SEGA's 60th anniversary. It makes me doubt VF6 is even a thing. Something even Katsuhiro Harada wants. How much more motivation do you need than the producer of your rival series even wants to see you come back and thrive???

      We asked for this a very long time ago when VF5 was at its peak. It would have been a good way to expand the interest of the franchise. Nothing happened back at 2008 onwards, and many of the super talented people at SEGA are gone due to getting a new job or retirement.

    Been playing Street fighter for years, finally got into 3D fighters with Tekken 8 and it’s amazing being a beginner again, game is like crack.
    But.
    It’s bittersweet because it’s made me think of the 3D fighting genre in general. I love Tekken but let’s be honest it’s the only game in town.
    Yes I know you can play VF5 but as you say it’s platform locked and the online is terrible.
    Yes I know you can play Soulcalibre or DOA 6 but again; they both have massive issues and with Tekken 8 being so good why would you suffer that?
    If you’re into 2D fighters you have so many options, so many styles to choose from, SF, KOF, anime games, tag fighters etc etc.’

    i undestand the point and i really want to SEGA to release a new VF but let get real no one is gonna play it unless some household name like justin wong or maximillian play the game consistently so the game have a huge promotion nobody is gonna play it specially in USA in japan is other thing and other level even to this day they have VF2 tournaments but here is impossible Sega even release and gave a huge promotion of VF5US (aka VF5Esports in arcades only in japan) for ps4 with new graphics some fixes here and there specially having rollback netcode and even max play the game a few times but nothing happens no one mention it again nada it was another attempt that fell short the only way for virtua fighter to have recognition outside japan is if in the next EVO they put the game on center stage like they do with KOF13 and i don't say that VF is not important or is not a fun game to play that in my personal opinion i like VF better that tekken because to play VF you have to be skillful and have the nerves of still to play it and master it is not a easy game but is fun and i love it but that the sad thing with VR but what else we can do T_T

    The netcode isn’t that big of an issue as VF5US gives you a sizeable input buffer to compensate for any delays, meaning if you buffer in a move it can still come out instantly after a different attack

    Companies Only Care About Generating Profit, So Deprive Them Of That... By Refusing To Buy Yakuza Games, Until We Get A NEW Solid Virtua Fighter Game.
    I Have Been A Diehard Sega Fan Since The Release Of The Master System, & A Fan Of Virtua Fighter Since The Release Of The First Game. Refusing Yakuza Is The Key To Get Them To Reevaluate The Virtua Fighter Situation.

      @@SleepmodeFGC Not gonna lie, this vid was a whole lot of complaining. At the time of VF5US sadly a lot of Japanese devs didn't believe in rollback. It was see as a weird US only thing. It wasn't till the pandemic hit and everyone got to fully see how their online infrastructure really was that they started implementing rollback. Where even older games were getting a rollback update. Then there's the lines about not getting ports of the last installments of certain versions. You really think spending money localizing, shipping and advertising on a already niche title is gonna really bring in that much cash? VF4 Sold really good, Evo moved a few units. How many do you really think a third installment was really gonna move? Same with FV5. As for VF3tb it seems you understand the situation. It's looked as the black sheep of the series. Sega understands that. So they are keeping it in a market where it will sell. Look man l love me some VF. Been playing the game since it came out. MY old man surprised us with a Saturn back in the day and we would play the crap out of VF2 when that came out. But you also gotta understand how the market and logistics works. The good news is that Sega has said that a VF game is being considered. They wanna get it right and not just half ass it and call it a day.

    I'm not gonna make excuses for Sega but I have shilled Virtua Fighter 4 on Fightcade online and in real life to people based on it being pretty damn close to VF5 in terms of gameplay and it having rollback and people still choose to not play. People are just lazy. I see all these people coming out of the woodwork like "omg new VF coming maybe????" like they have ever given a single shit about the franchise when they are in fact posers. The mass majority of people who have played VF and are hoping for a new one basically just played 2 or 4 back in the day for like 10 hours total and thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread, oblivious of the fact that those games can be played with great netcode right now online.
    You can't get people to play 3tb either. Too weird. Too legacy. Like Tekken isn't. You have to essentially force people to like it when it's the only option, why do you think Strive and Tekken 7 got so big? Because there was nothing else of that quality during that time period. Same goes for Street Fighter IV tbh. You're gonna see all these people hype a new game up and then it'll get unceremoniously dropped by the FGC for not being perfect or enough like Tekken or whatever is popular come 2050.
    If you want people to be shouting from the rooftops for a new game, we have to get people in the loop on what we have now too. Virtua Fighter, contrary to popular belief, is in a much better state now than it ever was in 2012 when FS got released. It'll make fans out of people when there is irrefutable proof posted every day that VF is alive and kicking and people want to learn. That's the power of marketing.
    I'll say though that Sega fumbled VF once in 2007 with VF5 PS3 not having any netcode period and exclusive to the $599 console for many months and they just never bothered to truly try again here. Hell, they barely tried with VF4, a game that was so superior to Tekken at the time people more fondly remember VF4 than Tekken 4 by a long shot in the East and West despite it getting zero marketing. It is only in retrospect that T4 has gained much love.

      I definitely agree with you about the need to broadcast the things that the VF scene is doing right now -- I’ve seen the work that you and countless others put into running regular events and other things, and in retrospect I should have put a greater light on that, because in many ways I feel that the VF scene outside Japan will only be able to sustain itself through its own efforts as opposed to anything from Sega, since they just don’t seem interested in trying

    • @jktwice8235
      @jktwice8235 7 месяцев назад

      @@SleepmodeFGC Grassroots is the moniker for local tournaments because roots are supposed to be the lifeline for something. The VF scene in Japan has sustained itself for much of its life without Sega's support. Sega basically just ran Kakuto Shinseiki a few times whenever a new release of VF came out and Maximum Battle in 1996. VF community meanwhile has ran Beat Tribe Cup since at least the VF3 days and now we have a dedicated VF3 World Cup that clearly inspired AM2 to give the Japanese community the Online release.
      The worst thing we can be doing is waiting for Sega to vindicate our scene and sticking with it. That's asking to put all of our eggs in one basket like console shooter scenes did with MLG back in the day (and still do now...). As you said, we should be broadcasting what we are doing right now and trying to reach the greatest audience possible with what's going on with VF. For too long the major players in the VF scene have been spread out across group chats and discords, but lately we have been making a concerted effort to centralize the community on Discord at least, between there and VFDC.

    I bet *SEGA* does not have the manpower to make a VF by the standards the series is known for. After AM 2 imploded, Yu Suzuki left the company, and how arcades in Japan were left in the dust was just a matter of time for the series to be retired and I think is for good. For now, I prefer to not have a bad game carrying the name of *Virtua Fighter.* Let Tekken hype the normies. It was always like that.

      I don't like dismissal of other games just because VF keeps getting snubbed; a lot of tekken players don't try VF because they perceive a sort of exclusionary elitism among VF players. I quite like tekken and MK even if I greatly prefer VF. But, I do think DOA has retained a lot more of its VF DNA than tekken has, and I totally agree that if there were ever going to be a crossover of 3D fighting games, VF X DOA makes the most sense. After all, several VF characters appeared in DOA5 already.
