    This song was in fact written for Patsy who unfortunately died before she could record it. Thirty years later, the writer heard Leann sing and sent her the song to record. She was only 13, I believe, and she nailed it! It was her first hit!

    • @StevesFunhouse
      @StevesFunhouse 10 месяцев назад +11

      You are correct !!! She WAS only 13 (was born in 1982, this song was released in 1996) and strangely/sadly enough, she was heavily bullied in school for "wanting to be a singer" ... her peers didn't think she'd be any good.

    • @staciemoisa4884
      @staciemoisa4884 10 месяцев назад +6

      That's jealousy talking if they didn't think she'd be a singer. I saw her on that singing show for kids when she was very young, and she won it! She has so much talent, and did from an early age. @@StevesFunhouse

      This story was told in the promotional material for this song, but it's only something like what actually happened. Bill Mack wrote and recorded the song himself in 1956, but when it was released in 1958 it was only a regional hit for him (note this was still four or five years before Patsy's death). A friend of his, also in the music business, was convinced that the song had hit potential and eventually suggested he pitch it to Patsy Cline. He had a female singer record a demo of it and sent the song to Patsy's husband/manager along with other material, but before Patsy could hear the song and decide whether to record it, she was killed.
      After that, he or his producer offered the song to other people at times, and it was recorded by Kenny Roberts (who added the yodel) in 1966, Roy Drusky sometime in the late 60s or early 70s, Polly Stephens Exley in the late 80s (who added a verse that was included in later versions), and Kathryn Pitt in 1993. However, none of these versions became a bona fide hit.
      He did offer it to LeAnn after hearing her sing of course.

      @@staciemoisa4884Oh (1st sentence), most definitely, and what I was referring to !!! However, I don't recall if I knew she had participated in a singing show before that, cause I'm just pulling from my memory and that may not've been common knowledge or even explained back when I learned the history about her struggles.

      @@StarGeezerTim I didn't write head voice because a lot of people don't know what that is because they are dumped down from all these singer shows on TV who constantly use the word falsetto for male and femal. It's also singing with thin vocal cords. On TV shows like The voice they always say falsetto for men and women and that's what non-singers know. Falsetto for men, head voice for women. A mix voice is combining chest and head voice. Distortion, singing with upper vocal cords. It's also when a female singer flips from her chest voice to her head voice or sometimes using even a mixed voice

    She released an album that contained covers of popular songs that she did between 10 and 11 including "I Will Always Love You" & "Unchained Melody" that I know you two will love.
    Originally, her version of "How Do I Live" was supposed to be on the "Con Air" soundtrack, but for some strange reasons, the "suits" didn't think that a 14 year old can sing it with the proper emotion, so they had Trisha Yearwood (she killed it too btw) record and that version played most on country stations, but LeAnn got the last laugh, as her version stayed on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart for more than a year, which was a record at that time.
    In 2010, there's a video on here singing with the Gay Men's Chorus of LA around Christmas doing a beautiful cover of Bette Midler's "The Rose" that will bring a tear to your eye.

    You hit the nail on the head with everything you said . Leann's vocal is part of an elite class of unique singers. Your comments deserve praise, glad you watched this video.
    Not sure if you ever covered these singers. Roy Orbison "Blue angel" Jay and the Americans " Cara Mia" Gene Pitney " Every breath i take" Freddie and the dreamers "I understand"
    all from the 60's . Burton Cummings "Stand tall" Rubettes "Sugar baby love" Paper lace "The Night Chicago died" from the 70's. Gary O "Call of the wild" Bette Midler " The Rose"
    Aha "Take on me" Robert Plant " The way i feel" from the 80's. All great vocals but lesser known. For some reason their vocal was not exploited more.

    Contrary to popular belief, Bill Mack didn't have anyone in mind, when he wrote this song. After it was completed, he did offer it to Patsy Cline. But, he didn't write it specifically for her. He was well past his days of writing and pitching songs to artist. But, LeAnn Rimes' father had heard a version of the song, and thought it would be good for his young daughter. Rimes first recorded it when she was 11 years old, for an independent label that her father had access to. Then, two years later, she re:recorded it for her first studio album.

    • @karnsfan
      @karnsfan 10 месяцев назад

      That's right, Bill Mack said of all the songs he wrote he never wrote one specifically for an artist. Also the claim that Patsy died before she had a chance to record it is a little far-fetched since she died in 1963 but the song was written 5 years before in 1958.

    Yes, you are correct, she had recorded it earlier when she was 11 and released it on her own independent label. Then when she was signed by Curb Records, they used the original track and re-mixed and remastered it for national release (She may have re-sung the vocal, I'm not sure). The song was written by a popular local Dallas-Fort Worth DJ named Bill Mack (He used to broadcast his own show on WBAP radio called "The Bill Mack Open Road Show" starting at midnight every night) He had apparently pitched "Blue" to Patsy Cline but she died. Bill had recorded the dong himself in 1958 and it was covered a couple more times by other artists (Kenny Roberts in 1966, Polly Stephens Exley in the late 1980s and Kathryn Pitt in 1993) it was finally given to Leann. By the way, in that music video the man sitting next to her in the studio wearing the ball cap is her father, Wilbur Rimes. He was the producer on the record. Incidentally, he produced another Dallas based singer shortly afterwards named Steve Holy who use to sing with Leann on many local shows in the DFW area before she became famous. Namely, The Johnny High Country Review in Arlington, Texas where they were both regular performers. Wilbur Rimes produced Steve Holy's first number one hit, "Good Morning Beautiful". (There were several new talented singers around the Dallas-Ft Worth area during that time.)

    • @CFWhitman
      @CFWhitman 10 месяцев назад

      She did re-record this for Curb, and as a thirteen-year-old she got the lyric "those sweet words you whispered" correct. However, the version released ended up being her recording at eleven (where she sang "weak" instead of "sweet"), which was apparently due to some sort of mix-up rather than a decision to release the older recording (though that's hard to say for certain). After that, she ended up singing the mistaken word at concerts (and of course her lip syncing in the video) to match the released recording, even though she of course knew what the lyric was supposed to be.

    I find it interesting that blonde girls--especially in Country Music--always seem to start out in their early teens. Leann, is one example, but then you have Tanya Tucker (first album 'Delta Dawn' at 13), and the late Amie Comeaux who's hit single and album 'Who's She To You' were successful (she was 15) and were supposed to kick off her career but tragically right before Christmas after the single was released, she and her grandmother were both killed in a car accident.

    LeeAnn Rimes could have been as big as Taylor Swift if she had wanted to. Talent for days..

    She was 13 when she recorded the song, but I think in the video she had turned 14. Regardless of age, that kind of voice control is very rare, just like Patsy. And it's just not her voice that makes the song great, it's also that classic true country with that steel guitar and slow temple. BTW: Today's country sux.

    Great reaction to the phenomenal LeAnn Rimes! There are so many songs that she has recorded that I’m hoping you will check into. I’m sharing a link to her performances on The Masked Singer which she won. She absolutely blew all the judges away with her vocals but they didn’t know who was singing until the reveal. PLEASE react to this link…..you will definitely enjoy it and thank you! ruclips.net/video/TPoLSN9hFEQ/видео.html

    She does a good job with "Cattle Call" too. This was written for Patsy Cline but Patsy died in a plane crash, at the age of 30, before she could record it. That was 51 years ago. I think Leann was 13 when she recorded this.

    Got another even younger singer for you to check out, Jackie Evancho. Pick most any song from her first of three PBS concerts but especially Nessun Dorma, Lovers or The Lord's Prayer, all from when she was 11. She's the youngest solo artist to go platinum.

    this song was written for Patsy but she died in the aviation accident before she got the chance to record it. It was then all those years later the writer broke it out for Leann to record and boom, there it is. If you haven't seen her tribute to Patsy live, it is one of the most touching performances I've ever seen when she breaks down at the end.

      Bill Mack, who wrote the song, said several times, and in his autobiography, Bill Mack's Memories from the Trenches of Broadcasting, that he never wrote this song for Patsy and she was never in line to record it. Even if it were true, he wrote the song 5 years before Patsy died, plenty of time for her to have recorded it.
