The whole Jagged Little Pill album was 🔥! I hope you listen to the other songs from it ❤
there is not a bad song on the whole album
Still one of the best selling albums of all time, and deservedly so... and I'm a metal head!
Amazing album
One of my favorite all time albums...from beginning to end.
Yes. That album transcends genres.
Awesome ! ✌️❤️🇨🇦
P.s. That's Taylor Hawkins on drums, Flea and Dave Navarro from Red Hot Chilli Peppers played on this album, Jagged Little Pill, a classic from start to finish.
Add. Benmont Tench, III, on keyboards. He was from The Heartbreakers before they broke up due to the death of Tom Petty, RIP.
Chris Chaney (Jane's Addiction, among others) had been her touring bassist at that time, too 🙂
Wrong. Hawkins was the touring/live drummer for her off of that album. Two different drummers were in the studio. Watch her special on the streaming channel MAX.
Whoa ! That is Taylor Hawkins in the video, didn't say he was on the album.
@@stoneysopranoyukon9398 Matt Laug on drums 🥁 in the audio recording.
Alanis was a minor level, teen pop singer ala Tiffany.
Then she dropped out of sight for a while and when she came back, she dropped the album Jagged Little Pill.
This was the first release from the album and I can only describe the impact it had as being akin to using a flamethrower to light the candles on a birthday cake.
Never knew that. Interesting.
Gen X Kid here. And I was in high school when this bomb detonated the music world. If a volcanic eruption can sing, this could have been it.
She totally kicked ass back in the 90's when this album came out.
She has become iconic. Amazing vocals. Dive deep, you guys will love her.
don't you mean ironic :P
@@JRSiebz.......nice
To this day she has one of those voices that will never be copied. And I say that but I also used to say that about Reba McIntyre a lot and there's some lady out there named Haley that sounds exactly like her. She has a song with Reba but I havent heard it. She's got the red hair and she's all tall. I saw her in the music video for "Brenda put your bra on" by Ashley McBride
What’s crazy is that she’s as intelligent and chill and well spoken as any artist of our time.
Keep playing her stuff, and you’ll find it’s a completely different angle than this aggression.
She became such a huge part of 90's culture, she even played God in the film Dogma, written & directed by Kevin Smith. (HIGHLY recommend if you haven't seen!!).
That film is fantastic!!
Alanis said, with no holds bar, what a lot of women have wanted to express to someone. She put words to it & blew everyone away. 🙏🏻RIP Taylor Hawkins (also of Foo Fighters) Check out these massive hits:
Ironic
Thank U
Hands In My Pocket
Head Over Feet
You Learn
& my favorite: Uninvited
Just for the record, she said, with no holds barred, what a lot of PEOPLE have wanted to express to someone, regardless of gender. Pain from a failed relationship is not the sole property of women. ;)
@@ArtofFreeSpeech Exactly! Women string people along, then bail too. It’s a human condition.
@@mountainguyed67 Women cry in the short run. Men cry in the long run. That is, women tend to cry like mad for a few days then move on. Men tend to feel very little for the first few weeks, then start to miss the woman like crazy. It's been said "a woman's love is a fleeting thing, but a man's love is forever."
The woman’s enormous talent is obvious. Right in your face.
Great song...great album. Jagged Little Pill is a top 10 album of 90s...
Her phrasing, especially in some of her other songs, is astounding. It’s such an original form it takes a while to appreciate her vocal style. Love the work!
I love watching people listen to her for the first time. I’m listening to your commentary and you haven’t started hearing the track yet, and my anticipation for you both is spilling over. Hands down one of the greatest performers to come out of the grunge rock era! PERIOD.
Uninvited live at the Grammy Awards is one of the most beautiful live performance of one of the most beautiful songs. Priceless.
Alanis is an amazing musical talent, very different from the pre-packaged pop princesses that were so prevalent at the time she hit the mainstream. This is one of her more commercially-focused songs, her catalog gets more interesting the deeper you get into it and live performances is where I feel she really shines.
Her first two albums were very much pre-packaged pop princesses stuff in the dance-pop genre. It was _Jagged Little Pill_ and this track from that album that broke her free from that.
She wrote this song about an ex boyfriend that was a bit older than her. That boyfriend was Dave Coulier who played Joey on the TV Show, Full House.
15 years older. It never was confirmed by both parties that I know of, David did an interview saying that it all fit with their story. Other commenters said he recanted that story later, dunno. I saw an interview with her saying she’ll never tell, then immediately says she might one day. One commenter on another video said she confirmed it was not David on Netflix, I don’t know. I find it odd only one person is saying that. Alanis also said in her interview that a total of six guys have claimed it’s about them, she said it was weird to say “Yeah I’m the asshole”.
Album was beyond huge...so unique, lyrics and voice...this song was her first massive hit....that feeling you are getting is nostalgia for great music
I love watching this video and see Taylor Hawkins (RIP) just being Taylor Hawkins before he was a MEGA star with the Foo Fighters
My goodness, this song gets me every time. It's pure and raw emotion and pain. I don't think there is any other song that comes close. Absolutely incredible.
She let it all out on her first album. Jagged Little Pill is such a good album.
Jagged Little Pill was her second album
@@heatherpayne1995 Jagged Little Pill is her third album and the first to be released worldwide. There were two previous albums launched only Canada.
That summer, I had just seen Alanis on TV doing an early interview about her new style. The album was not a hit that early, but I got it. Then it got huge in a month!
Jagged little pill was a fantastic album. " right through you ", " you learn ", " ironic ". Basically no bad song on the entire album.
Jagged Little Pill is one of those rare albums that you pop in and don’t skip through a single track
I'll tell y'all, she puts on a great show!
Hell Yeah, more Alannis
This song is about being dumped by an older man. "An older version of me". She was devastated by the breakup.
No shit!
OMG! Is she pissed off!
Love love love this track. Raw and Real. ❤❤🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Alanis is a brilliant songwriter and performer. I am betting that whomever she wrote this about doesn't listen to this song much. She is pissed. Thx you guys.
She clearly has a broken heart and I just feel it.Great song.great reaction
Back in the 90's, when this was current. I lived 5 hrs away from my parents, but I would visit them every weekend. I LOVED the drive and the music. Getting parked in the drivers seat, adjusting mirrors and whatnot.. and lining up the cassettes on the passengers seat.. they were CD's by mid- 90's.. and Jagged Little Pill is the one I would ALWAYS start my journey with. I would sing all the songs at the TOP OF MY LUNGS lol knew each song word for word, singin and belting out thee tunes all the way to my parents house lolol :D Man. Good times. Forgot about that, and the freedom I felt from doing that. I swear that the only reason I was so dedicated to my parents was because they were so far away.. and the drive to see them was the reward for the dedication. ^_^
This was rumored to be about the actor Dave Coulier, whom Morissette dated for a time. Coulier played Joey on the TV show Full House
She’s denied his claim, saying it’s a composite of several people she’d dated
She's awesome and proud she's a Canadian. I've listened to her forever
This fellow Canadian loves her to bits. One of the best albums ever!!!!
Jagged Little Pill was a fantastic album with several songs that became radio hits. "You Learn", "Hand In My Pocket" and "All I Really Want" along with the track you played are my favorite four, but there are some others that were hits as well. Honestly, this was a monster album!
I find it "Ironic" that you left out a particular major radio hit.
Check out her live version of "uninvited" it is chuffing awesome 😊
My favorite!!
Absolute must see performance! Chilling 🥶
The bass line is just filthy!!!!
I love it!
This is peak 90s. Great reaction to a great song!
And like many others on here, I concur that the whole album is outstanding.
That funky bass line provided by Flea, along with the main guitar, Dave Navarro, of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The entire 'Jagged Little Pill' album is solid gold.
And Taylor Hawkins (RIP) on drums (from Foo Fighters) kills it!
Keep listening to her songs her voice is just amazing
Jagged Little Pill is a classic and must have album. Love her live version of Dear Prudence, tribute to John Lennon.
That whole album is total gold!!!!!!
I fell in love with her raw passion (like a really pissed-off Melissa Etheridge). Her "Uninvited" (from the movie "City of Angels") is transcendent."
Alanis was not quite twenty years old at the time and was already something extraordinary in music history from then on! I can recommend you to watch her live acoustic performances and have a reaction, plus or minus 20-25 years later on The Howard Stern Show where she sings all these hits like "Head Over Feet, Ironic"! etc. And her voice, her unmistakable style of singing, so clear and perfect! And to this day, Alanis sings beautifully! So listen and do something with Alanis Morissette on The Howard Stern Show and her performance there!!! Greetings from 🇨🇭 Switzerland 🤗🤘🏼
The entire album is good! Every single song!
This song is about her relationship with the actor that played Uncle Joey from the show Full House.
Alanis when she goes high register is my favorite nails on chalkboard vocals, lol
not only did she sing, she was in movies like Dogma (she was God) and TV shows like Weeds, great vid, thanks.
This entire album.... every song... top hits... it's epic... Great reaction. 👍
Alanis confronted us with all kinds of stuff. It wasn't easy to listen to but we just had to, it was so well done.
Jagged Little Pill album is phenomenal!!
Heavy hitters backing her on this release, Dave Navarro from Jane's Addiction and Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Female grunge works, but this lady is a class all her own imo!!
Love her!!
This song is so good. She's so good at getting the instability across by hopping from one thought to another.
Without fail, every video of a couple reacting to this leads to the dude wincing and the girl smiling at some point 😂 tremendous
Love her. The Jagged Little Pill, all good. Thanks, great reaction.
Great song and album loved it when it came out
Thanks, Kids! This is probably the best "diss song" of an ex by a female... she is AMAZING... most of her more popular stuff is more melodic and softer.. but this is, as she said.. "RAW"... she is so beautiful and passionate! .. that whole video with the suitcase... "baggage"?... love it.. and look forward to more of your reactions...
I got to see her play live here in Newfoundland over the summer for the first time and she was INCREDIBLE.
Great reaction. Also fab to see Taylor Hawkins on the drums. He left her to join The Foo Fighters ❤️
She has evolved an amazing amount since then...as far as style and delivery. Was, and is an intelligent, strong woman
I saw her perform recently and her voice is still top notch. Great performer.
This album blew up when it came out....and this song rocks......girls loved it and guys respected it!
We all loved her edginess and angst!
Reportedly, this was about her failed relationship with fellow Canadian Dave Coulier (Uncle Joey on Full House), and was written to him!
This song was a huge female anthem when it came out. Jagged Little Pill such a great album with great songs.
My wife says there needs to be a male version too, because women do the same thing.
Jagged little pill one of the best albums ever made
That was, and is such a superb album.....
Her drummer in this video is the LATE Taylor Hawkins, he left her band and joined the FOO FIGHTERS
Just saw her live at the amphitheatre in Milwaukee a month or two ago. She still has that energy live, so good. And her opening act was Joan Jett & The Blackhearts!
The music time machine can work wonders! Cheers!
For those of us who remembered our introduction to her being on You Can't Do That on Television on Nickelodeon, this album was eye opening and then became an anthem album to every young woman I knew at the time.
Loved her in Kevin Smith's "Dogma" 😍
Something that her fans can claim that others can't is, they can say she is a god because she portrays god in the movie Dogma
Jagged Little Pill came out of nowhere in 1995,probably one of the best debut albums of all time by any artist(artists)...song is in reference to her relationship to Uncle Joey from FULL HOUSE(Dave Coulier),she was 17 and he was 35. It has Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers) on bass, Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters) on drums and Dave Navarro (Jane's Addiction) on guitar. what a line up!...
She got her start on All That.
Dive into Alanis' music. She is amazing! ❤
Fun fact: She wrote this song about her break up with boyfriend Dave Coulier who played Uncle Joey on the TV show Full House.
All the women I knew, when this album came out, had this album and love Alanis. She spoke to all the girls who could relate.
I also read this was supposed to be a ballad. It was just vocals and acoustic guitar.
Apparently, her producer I think, felt the story of the song needed an angst feel to it.
This came through my feed, and I had to check your reaction! Back in my clubbing days, this was the ladies' anthem. As soon as this song started, the guys just knew to quietly leave the dance floor and let us do our thing. 😂Perfect timing, too. I'd just been dumped and this song was released. It's raw 'n dirty, expressing all the feelings! Alanis is FANTABULOUS, and I just love her.
Alanis Morisette Album Jagged Little Pill is Absolutely Amazing. Her Vocals are so Unique Quirky & Powerful. No one has Vocal Delivery like Alanis Does. Check out Univited Live at the Grammy Awards. Goose Bump Inducing. Lucky enough to see her Live in Concert touring on this song & album. Alanis the band & the crowd were on Fire
Videos to react to
Hand in my Pocket
All from Jagged Little Pill
Ironic
Thank You
All amazing & unique in their own right
Fully on Alanis’s side with this song. Can’t be denying people cross eyed bears after giving them to them.
The weirdest part of this song is that it was written about Dave Coulier, the goofy uncle on Full House.
That’s a popular theory but Morrissette has denied it. She says lots of people have claimed the song is about them.. and it’s kind of a weird flex
@@txheadshots I still find it funny.
Dave knows what’s up…..🤔
@@txheadshots
Coulier verified the claim, then recanted.
No it wasn’t. This is the most common comment on any reaction video about this song and it drives me crazy. She dated Dave. But this song was about her dating a professional hockey player that was much older than her when she was 18. It’s a fun urban legend that has persisted for decades but this is NOT about Dave. Let it go.
This whole album is amazing. You might listen to them all one at a time. Not all of them have music videos, but they are all on RUclips for sure. 🥰
Alanis was such a refreshing explosion of pure talent and unique vocal ability at a time when Britney Spears and other pop princesses were popular. Her Jagged Little Pill album is amazing. So much talent and so many great songs to explore.
I'm 51, I remember when this came out. I also remember hearing and reading about guys that would attend her concerts, and this song would start. The guys would literally be paralyzed with fear. Once, when Alanis was on tour, this song came on and a bunch of girls started fighting with group of guys --- literally attacking them. Alanis had to stop the concert and tell the young ladies to stop and explain that the song was not about men in general. But, about ex-bf that wronged her.
I bet you will have heard her song "Ironic", at least in passing. The whole album, "Jagged little pill" is amazing!
Before this she was a teen pop star in Canada, the “Canadian Britney Spears” before she sort of reinvented herself beginning with this album and achieved success in the US market. I believe the male figure and previous love interest was also her manager during this earlier chapter of her career. Incredible band on this album and tour. The music is phenomenal. Lots of great dynamics in the song writing.
This was written about her ex who if you can believe it was Canadian actor Uncle Joey found I’m Full House!!!! This album inspired the Broadway play of the same name Jagged Little Pill using the music from the album!!
Fantastic album…. Amazing Woman ✨✨✨
This is the perfect “pissed off at a guy” song……I yelled along to this with the volume cranked all the way up back in the day when going through my divorce. Funny thinking about her on Nickelodeon’s “You Can’t Do That On Television”
Great catch Phil. She, especially in this brilliant song and video, became female grunge.
There are several music vids of hers that are equally amazing and, apparently, very reaction worthy. 🇱🇷🇨🇦
Before this song came out, Alanis was known for more bubblegum pop like Britney Spears, this was her branch into alternative and it blew everyone away.
from one of the greatest albums of all time...by one of the best vocalist of all time... we out..🎤⬇️✌
one of the best diss songs ever! ♥
check out "Uninvited" live from the Grammys
My wife and I call this the “I’m not bitter song-a-Rama”
Check out Uninvited live at the Grammys, which she shortly after won. Saw her last summer in Milwaukee WI. She is fantabulous live.
the whole album is fire!!!!!!!!!!! i have three copies two are sealed.
Just a little info on The great late past Drummer Taylor Hawkins , he got his first break with another Canadian female rocker Sass Jordan ,Jordan’s manager hired him while he was working in a Californian music store , After his time with Sass, Alannis hired him , Then after touring with Morisette. Taylor was hired by the Foo Fighters
If I could pick an arthat I seem to remember the most from growing up in the 90s it would be Alanis Morissette. Small town Kansas and the only thing we had to do on the weekends was a skating rink. So all of the popular 90s music was getting played there. That is the sole reason that I know anything about her and I'm very glad that I do. When I hear Ironic from Her it just takes me right back to that skating rink at 11 years old. I also remember being entirely mistaken for almost all of my life. There's a lady called Meredith Brooks and she has a song called "Bitch" and I would have bet my life until finding out far after I should have known better, that Alanis Morissette sang that song.......nope.
Check it out....its good too Meredith Brooks "Bitch"
Her album Jagged Little Pill (with this song) was a staple for me in high school 🙌🏼.
The man shes singing about here is Uncle Joey from the TV show Full House
Other Canadian singer from Canada to remember are Celine Dion / Shania Twain and Terry Clark all three of these female singers from Canada are good
This video was shot in Death Valley, California. Also, in Ryolite ghost town just outside Beatty, Nevada. I've stood, many times, in those ruins of a hotel in Ryolite that she and the band are playing in.
Awesome song and every time I watch the video I remember that that is Dave Navarro on guitar.
Some very powerful and painful emotions in a post-breakup song The vibe is very dark and suited the 90s music era.
The two snippets a lot of people miss in this song are "well you're still alive" and "well can ya feel it". Once you hear them in context it makes it even better and a little bit darker
this song is a classic. it never gets old. it was really radical for a woman to express her ideas like this at the time. it is still radical in many ways. amazing song! to speak to the nostalgia feeling you speak of around 90's music-i think there are several things at play here-one-the music in the 90's was really pretty incredible. it was exciting, it was original, and it went all over the place. from nirvana to alanis to Mary j. Blige to madonna to the Macarena to sound garden and on and on.
but a major thing around the music of this time is that all of that 90's music is pre-9/11. and I know that seems kooky to say, but things changed in the u,.s, after that event. with everything. we are only now starting to see how that moment marked such a change in culture, but everything changed. it was the last time we were not so divided politically. guns were not the focus of the country. even though it was pre-internet and social media we were actually more connected as a culture too. it was the last time we all felt safe, as it were. no wonder that music brings about nostalgic feelings. your channel is great! thanks for posting.
