Simply put, Alanis closed out the 90s with this performance proving that SHE was the biggest female star to come out of that decade! There was just nobody like her! She took the world by storm in '95, and immediately became an Icon!!!! Jagged Little Pill is still to this day one of the best selling albums of ALL time!
She's such an incredible talent. The raw emotion in her voice is so relatable. I forgot about her for a while, but I am so glad I rediscovered her as an adult. My mom and dad used to listen to her when I was a kid. These songs bring me back to that time
I am SO excited for her concert this year! She has been a bucket list artist for me, since Jagged Little Pill came out when I was in like 6th grade. I can’t wait 🥹
This version is exactly like what it’s like from the album. She does have another alternative version where it’s a rock group behind her instead of an orchestra that’s also mind blowing.
I hate saying she's underrated because she's definitely not. But maybe unappreciated I'm not sure what to say but she's amazing and anyone who discovers her is blessed cuz she's an angel on earth.
She fell victim to having her music and certain songs played constantly on the radio. When that happens, a lot of GREAT artists are more vilified than appreciated. But years later, when looking back and really allowing yourself to listen, she is absolutely mind blowing lyrically, emotionally, and her vocals are astonishing. The music itself has an element of timelessness as well, especially this song.
I was in high school when she blew up. She was the perfect counterbalance to the male-fronted rock music that also blew up around that time. Cobain and Vedder and those guys gave you the honest male p.o.v. of what Gen X felt and thought at the time, and Alanis. Dolores O'Riordan and those girls gave you the exact same thing but from a female perspective. Just mesmerizing. I must've listened to her debut album a million times back then.
I cannot believe this much time has gone by. It feels like yesterday. She was HUGE! (and her drummer was Taylor Hawkins, the drummer from Foo Fighters who died last year)
Absolutely phenomenal my favourite artist of all time, Alanis known for her emotive Mezzo- Soprano voice, has won a total of 28 music awards including 7 Grammy Awards, over Alanis career I’ve actually attended 6 of her live concerts in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧, Alanis is absolutely incredible and phenomenal live , she is a clever intelligent songwriter, she plays many instruments including Harmonica, Flute, Guitar, and piano, great reaction thanks 🙏
In the 80s there was a popular kids TV skit show called “You Can’t Do That On Television”. It’s where “getting slimed” started. A young Alanis was one of the primary kids performing on the show. The show ran its course, and faded away. And then in the 90s… she arrived in our lives again, all grown up. And dominated the music world, having a huge impact on young women worldwide.
Between You Can't Do That On Television and her international explosion were a few years of mediocre musical success in Canada. At that time her music sounded very poppy and contrived, she hadn't been given creative freedom yet. When Jagged Little Pill released, i thought it was the fake Alanis because it was the opposite of everything she'd ever shown us (It didn't help that she also went to my high school and we all had to listen to her rendition of the national anthem every day for years). Because of this, it took time for me to give the album a chance, once i did i realized writing like this can only come from a place of sincerity.... makes me wonder how many young artists are never given the chance to show who they really are.
Though this was featured in the movie City of Angels (fantastic movie if you've never seen it before), she wrote it about a very persistent creep who was stalking her for a long time. If you look at the lyrics now, they make a lot of sense and aren't as cryptic as the wiki would have you believe. I thought it was interesting that it also fit the movie so well too which was about something completely different lol
What I love so much about this is that you get to the end and it feels like it only just started! You leave it wanting so much more. That instrumental could have gone one for 5 more minutes and it still would keep your attention.
I have always thought she was underrated. But imagine having a song about considering having sex with someone then uninviting them and it being this dramatic. It should be. She knew her worth. “You speak of my love like you have experienced a love like this before. This is not allowed. You’re uninvited.” She is amazingly talented and this was always my favorite song of hers.
Not only haunting but this is a total spiritual experience that speaks to every faucet of our being....this song is a gift from GOD along with the gifted artist that is singing this. Js
*EPIC* ‼️And *LIVE* on top of that ‼️ You get *ONE* take,on one of the biggest stages in the world. Absolutely *crushed* it‼️⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐👏👏👏So many years later and this still *BANGS* ‼️ *FLAWLESS VICTORY* 🖤 Greetings from Seattle ‼️ May I suggest Celine Dion Greatest Hits Medley, Boston Garden live... you're welcome 😁
I'm pretty sure I watched the Grammys that year and saw this performance. Oh my goodness, the strings! The piano! Just chills. Probably my next fave Alanis songs are Head Over Feet and Forgiven.
It was the same year Ricky Martin stole the show. Madonna opened the show with Nothing Really Matters, and My Heart Will Go On won Record and Song of the Year.
"You speak of my love like you have experienced love like mine before", my favorite line from this Alanis classic. Such a beautiful LIVE performance, Salvo was like "I need a moment to deliberate" 😄
Alanis in her prime was a force. Love the Indian vibe that was all over her Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie album. Really great work. Her vocals are as you say, the real deal. Every song is captivating. Check out Joining You for sure, as well as Front Row, the banger of an opening. Contrast those powerhouses with her much softer side with That I Would Be Good.
@@SalvoG “You Learn, Hand in my Pocket, Thank You, Head Over Feet & That I Would Be Good” are a few of my favorites besides the the ones you’ve already done ♥️
Another wonderful Grammy performance is Brandi Carlile from 2019, singing The Joke. It will blow you away. Her vocals are so powerful and the band supports her perfectly.
I remember watching this live in my grandma's living room, and everyone there was like blown away by this performance. I can't even describe the awe and just fierce respect we had for her performance. It was amazing!
3:19 She got you, lol pause it if you have a thought but great respect for not wanting to pause it. I know how long the original video is and if I clicked on the 12:04 minute video I was settled in for the "reaction" part of this video. The sound that you couldn't place was the electronic bass. She has a unique style and vocal range, and its a joy to hear you react to her music. Try "Reasons I drink", by Alanis Morrissette, its new and you seem to have done the classic songs (not all but a full album review is too much to ask for).
Her voice... amazing, live performances.... unbelievable experience, lyrics and emotions that she portrays in her songs are so powerful n meaningful. Simply amazing, simply Alanis. Great reaction
When she came out wasnt a big fan but my GF Loved her so we went to see her at the then Gund arena in Cleveland. We eere 40 feet from the stage i was blown away by her and the whole band a superb group of musicians her as well she played multiple instruments
Her Unplugged album is unreal good. The sound and fullness of it is just amazing. One of the best unplugged albums i ever listened to.... And i've listened to a LOT 😉
can you imagine going to church and hearing this angel voice coming from the choir, you would think you already were in heaven....She started singing in the church choir at 8
Her art and being has always been different and unique, absolutely! I got stuck with her yeeears ago. Love your reaction. It's timeless. She is a gift 🙂
Shivers every time! She deeply moved back then and still does. Her music helped me heal and define myself. Thanks for letting us take this journey with you.✌️🫶🏻💛☀️🎤
This is one of those performances had the crowd just sat there slack jawed in silence at the end I wouldn’t have been surprised…..too stunned by what they witnessed to react…..so good
She sounds even better live. How many artists today can say that? LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! You should check out “Your House”. Hidden track on Jagged Little Pill. ❤
Going from what she had done, when her popularity was only in Canada, to international appeal is amazing. Bubble gum pop to edgy rock, and her voice! omg. Her song writing is awesome. ...and I've never had the privilege of seeing her live, yet!
20 yrs later and this still gives me chills every time, when released there was absolutely nothing like it
21 years later and it still makes me cry😭😭
Yep
"I don't think you're unworthy, I need a moment to deliberate"
(Insert emotional explosion here)
It was a rather short moment though....
I don't think you unworthy

I hope she at least plays this song this go-round!
Wow, what a talent!!!!!!
Studio version of this is really good but this right here is a masterpiece
She’s such a goddess.
Just finish Jagged a little pill and it’s entirey thank you love you
Just like in the movie Dogma!

One of the most haunting masterpieces you'll hear.
Not many people would have the power in their voice to actually sing this song. Alanis simply has an absolutely amazing voice.
After all these years later I still cry when hearing it. The lyrics, for anyone who has experienced this, if you know, you know.
This version is exactly like what it’s like from the album. She does have another alternative version where it’s a rock group behind her instead of an orchestra that’s also mind blowing.
I like that version better. she really lets loose
What most people don't realize about Alanis is she writes her own lyrics and composes the music. Alanis is the all around package artist.
This is a highly underrated masterpiece!! 👏🏼 This song is 20+ years old and it's still hauntingly amazing.
I hate saying she's underrated because she's definitely not. But maybe unappreciated I'm not sure what to say but she's amazing and anyone who discovers her is blessed cuz she's an angel on earth.

This was possibly her greatest live vocal. The arrangement was perfect and every note was nailed on. She is one insanely talented and beautiful woman.
No, the notes were not spot on. Still, I love this song, and Morrissette, too
My favorite song of hers. Still give me chills 25 years later.
The moment that this song was played in the background of the movie was so emotional as well.
It's the story! And the way she expresses herself with her hands blows me away!! She's one of a kind!!
I used to sit in the library in school and listen to this soundtrack on my discman. I'd just repeat this song over and over.
I cannot believe this much time has gone by. It feels like yesterday. She was HUGE! (and her drummer was Taylor Hawkins, the drummer from Foo Fighters who died last year)
You should do Right Through You for a glimpse at the music industry and young female artists.
I love this woman so much!

Her vocal ability is on another level. Her live shows today are truly incredible!
Especially the version from the Unplugged
