Leah's first hit "Blue" at the age of 13 was actually written for Patsy Cline but she passed away before she recorded it. The song writer offered it to LeAnn when he heard her voice.
@Joanne Drew, from the "horse's mouth" songwriter Bill Mack, stated that his song Blue was not written with Patsy Cline in mind since the song was released in 1958 by Mack. Per Mack 'I didn't write it for Patsy. I never wrote one for anybody.' He did give a tape of Blue to Charlie Dick, Patsy's husband, but she died before she could record it. Also, even though it was Rimes' version that became a multi-platinum hit for her, Blue was recorded by 'at least 5 artists prior to Rimes.'
Just adding my voice to those talking about Blue. For me it's one of the most beautiful songs ever. Even if you don't film it, you should have the pleasure of hearing it.
Patsy and Loretta Lynn were great friends and toured together. Patsy took a young Loretta Lynn under her wing and helped Loretta's career along. Loretta got the news of Patsy passing via radio announcement tribute. Loretta and Dolittle were awakened by the radio playing a Patsy song; "In memory of tha late Patsy Cline, who parrished in a plane crash overnight." What a way for a great friend and touring partner to get the news. (as told in the movie Coal Miners Daughter)
Leann is just pretty magical. she can truly perform any genre. She had massive country hits, as well as massive pop music hits. Her performances on the masked singer are legendary as the sun.
LeAnn topped the charts at age 13 with her rendition of "Blue." She really admired legend Patsy Cline. If you are captivated by this , check her out at 13 years old singing 'Blue' and also 'How do I live'.
About 4 years before Patsy Cline died in the plane crash we lost Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper and Richie Valens all at the same time also in a plane crash. Waylon Jennings was supposed to be on that flight but gave up his seat to someone that was sick. Don McLean sings a song called "American Pie" about that crash - "the day the music died"
Once again, you have taken one of the most beautiful songs, sung by one of the most beautiful singers, and made this your own and even improved upon it! LeeAnn is the very best female singer, in my opinion, that ever graced us with something more special than anyone could ever imagine! She is pure perfection and puts herself into the singers mind and heart!!! She is a MASTERPIECE!!! Thank you LeeAnn and thank you for your glowing reaction!
LeeAnn, you are by far my favorite singer and the best female singer of all times! This comment was especially for you, from someone else who has had a lifetime of heartbreak, that was, YES, undeserved! I truely am inspired by your talent and your courage throughout your lifetime!
She recently won the mask singer as the sun. She had been away from the spotlight for awhile and her performances were off the chart and it is worth checking out👀
It doesn't matter if you pick LeAnn Rimes's first hit Blue, or her cover of Brandi Carlile's, The Story, or anything in between, Leann's voice is pure gold. ... One of my absolute favorite voices for years.
Great Reaction Britt. LeAnn does have a beautiful voice. The last song she sang there, she did a cappella. You should check out her singing Amazing Grace and How Do I Live.
The reason she broke down is because she owes her career to a song Patsy Cline was originally supposed to record, but never got to record because she was killed in that tragic accident. The song is called blue and it’s really launched LeAnn Rimes career.
I think Leann's rendition of Crazy is spot on, I also think you should react to Willie Nelson, who wrote Crazy... As far as Willie Nelson, perhaps you'd enjoy: Seven Spanish Angels, Always on my Mind, On the Road Again, Whiskey River, Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain, or Poncho and Lefty
A new song was written for Patsy to sing and before she had a chance to sing it the tragic accident occurred. At about that time in history artists were flying around in small planes from venue to venue and we lost many wonderful artists because of weather conditions in flight, etc., A very, very sad time. So, the publishers of the song had to decide who should sing the song and they were told there was a 13 year old girl 'out there' who was singing up a storm and she sounded a lot like Patsy. They decided to give her a listen and you just heard what they listened to. So, LeAnn Rimes introduced the song, 'Blue', to the world and it was a huge success. Britt, it sounds like you got to know a lot about LeAnn and, yes, her life had many turns in it and not all happy ones. But, she is still singing and after all is said and done, she is being regarded as one of the greatest Country singers of all time. Btw, Britt, the song 'Crazy' which Patsy Cline recorded (written by Willie Nelson!) was played on the juke boxes in the USA more than any other song. It remains, to this day, one of our unofficial anthems. Besides Patsy (her version is played somewhere in the USA EVERYDAY) there are two other singers who pay tribute to Patsy when they sing 'Crazy' and their performances are incredibly beautiful. They are LeAnn Rimes and Angelina Jordan.
This is not accurate. Bill Mack wrote and recorded the song himself. Though it sold well in the area Mack was from, it was not a big hit for him nationwide. Five years later he did offer it to Patsy's husband for Patsy to sing, but she was killed before they ever had a chance to make a decision about it. In between then and LeAnn Rimes' version several other artists recorded the song, including Kenny Roberts and Polly Exley. Kenny added the yodel to the song with his version in 1966. Polly Exley made substantial additions to the lyrics with her limited run of it on tape in the 1980s. When Bill Mack sent the song to LeAnn Rimes, it was a copy of the Polly Exley version on the demo tape. Polly Exley actually sued Bill Mack and Curb Records over the LeAnn Rimes version because it included her additional lyrics without credit or permission. Exley had not registered her recording for copyright, but that was no longer required by law at the time she released it. The case was quickly settled out of court for an undisclosed sum. Exley re-recorded the song herself afterward hoping to benefit from the newfound popularity of Rimes' version, and this time she did register a copyright for her recording.
@@CFWhitman Wow! You definitely are a giant LeAnn Rimes fan and Patsy Cline fan. I don't believe I misspoke, however. It was a 'new' song for Patsy to sing. I never said who wrote it. Then I suggested the 'publishers' of the song discovered LeAnn Rimes and gave her a shot at the song after they heard her sing. All the information you provided was an example of what can go on behind the scenes in the music industry. I didn't feel like that was information to be included when someone just wanted to listen to the beautiful song. The connection between Patsy, LeAnn and the song was dramatic enough. But, thank you for the accurate information which transpired before LeAnn turned it into a GIANT hit, and it will always be remembered as her song to the listening audience.
Thx Brit! The glottal yodel that Patsy used is sometimes called a “cry.” I love your reactions because you observe interesting things and you’re fun! (And gorgeous) -Terry
Of all Patsy's legendary songs the greatest of all is 'Sweet Dreams'! Britt no one could appreciate it's beauty more than you. It really is a magical treasure! ~ Lesa on my husband's account
Brit, The crying is the geuine LeAnn! She is moved by the emotions in her songs - it's a gift she's been given to move others as well. Everybody attests to this. This is the first time I caught your show. Loved it!!!!!
Blue and the little girl that pushed it to the top LeAnn Rimes. And then again listen to Beverly D'Angelo singing Patsy Cline in the movie Coal Miner's Daughter and not to forget to mention Sissy Spacek singing Loretta Lynn with Loretta Lynn behind the scenes on set for pretty much the whole production of the film. Yes two actresses singing with their own beautiful voices for a whole movie.
I personally feel like she even sounded more like Patsy when she was younger. You should try the song Blue. I was told it was written for Patsy to sing, but she never got to do it, so they held it back until the right singer came along, and that turned out to be the very young Leann.
Yeah, I think so too. Or at least in a studio, where they can tweak things. She didn't perform these songs that great. The fast tempo didn't help either.
This year makes 60 yrs since Patsys death & fans are still buying her music. IMO there's no one that can replace Patsy Cline. Just like Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton & Tammy Wynette.
Jessica Lange played Patsy in a movie of Patsy's life called "Sweet Dreams," which was very good. I also vote for Leann's "Blue." It is amazing. Also, Home Free covered "Crazy" in Patsy's key, and it's gorgeous.
I'm 81 yo and am hard core classic country. Starting in the 1050s listening to songs that were old then. I remember exactly where I was the first time I heard LeAnn sing BLUE! She instantly became my favorite female singer, Today, she and Carrie Underwood are co-favorites.
Her and Loretta Lynn were friends. And she had a big country hit around 1961 called "Crazy" that Willie Nelson wrote. Crazy that Willie is still with us. He experienced and was a part of a lot of amazing music history.
Patsy's Sweet Dreams has always been my favorite country female song! Love the orchestra arrangement! I was about 5 years old when she died! I remember also listening to the Everly brothers! Their wake up little Susie I still watch the video of that song today! I lived with my Maternal grandparents and had a Aunt who was still at home who was Susie! So I would knock on her bedroom door in the morning for breakfast and tell her to WAKE UP little Susie! I actually hoped she would stay in bed so I got more bacon and pancakes! She always hated that song! Everyone at school would tease her to about it!
Lee Ann Rimes and Tanya Tucker were both very young when they first started performing. Tanya was and Adult when Lee Ann started up. Advice was offered based on age and what she was expected to experience
Lee-Anns’ emotional connection with Patsy is so real..I’m sure because at a very young age it was told to her unrelentingly. Doesn’t make it any less real..and she has an almost ethereal quality when singing Patsy. The only other person to equal Patsy singing “Crazy” is the one and only Willie Nelson, who just happened to write it. Would love to see your reaction to him doing that song Britt! Love you, love your reactions. ❤️🔥
Please react to Blue by LeAnn Rimes. The man who wrote it in 1958, Bill Mack, was trying to get the song to Patsy to record, but she was killed in the plane crash before that happened. He kept the song on ice for over 30 years, until he heard LeAnn and said he wanted her to record it. LeAnn has the same "yodeling" quality in her voice that Patsy did. Listen to Blue by LeAnn and try to imagine Patsy singing it.
GREAT REACTION AS USUAL BRITT. THANX TO YOU & LEANN. I AGREE WITH ALL OF THOSE THAT HAVE RECOMMENDED "BLUE" (ONE OF THE GREATEST SONGS OF ALL TIME!). I PROMISE THAT YOU WILL NOT EVEN BE CLOSE TO BEING DISAPPOINTED. PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Check out Leann's Blue and How Will I Live videos. She has been singing since she was 13 years old and is 40 years old now. We lost Patsy in a plane crash. She was best friends with Loretta Lynn. You should watch the movie Coal Miners Daughter starring Sissy Spacek. Great movie . It shows Loretta's rise to fame and her friendship with Patsy and the loss of her friend.
Leann was both gifted and cursed, she was born with a gift the likes of which come around very rarely, and that gift has hung over her from the beginning. To her credit, she has embraced the curse and moved beyond it (the curse of those who saw her as a "Patsy Cline cover artist" (which is what the title of "the next" really means in most cases) she's moved far beyond that while still being gracious enough to acknowledge Patsy as the clear influence she was, she hasn't limited herself to that path. if you listen closely you will hear a lot of Reba in her timbre, a little Martina McBride, possibly a tiny pinch of Aretha Franklin if you really have a great ear. i think those who label her "the next Patsy Cline" are complimenting her as they limit her in what she has been so capable of doing. She's actually not the "next Patsy Cline" as great a compliment as that is, she's "the first Leann Rimes" a person that has taken the God given talent she has and has not only raised her voice in Homage to one of the greatest singers in Country Music History, but she has also carved her own special niche as one of the most talented singers of her generation, all while being a well grounded very likable person. LOVE YOUR CHANNEL by the way!
You are really a great reactor to music, comedy and more. Great wit, humor, voice, sense of sincerity and ability to clearly articulate things so clearly and quickly. Was lucky that YT algorithms hit me with your content. Thanks!!
I'm new to your channel and it was so good to see your reaction just now. Patsy Cinee's songs sung by Leanne Rimes was wonderful. . Have you reeacted to the AGT audition of Chappel Hart? If not i hope you do. Their answer to Jolene is terrific.
In March 1963, Cline was killed in a plane crash along with country performers Cowboy Copas, Hawkshaw Hawkins, and manager Randy Hughes, during a flight from ... 1963 Camden PA-24 crash.
I like your videos, Britt. And yes - LeAnns voice is mesmerizing, IMO. Some singers just hit notes, and other singers (like LeAnn) feel the music and transport the listener to a different place.
Hi Britt, love your reactions and commentary. This was great seeing Leann Rimes do a cover of Patsy Cline. Awesome! Now, there are two other tributes that I think both you and your audience (who probably already know about these) would love to see your reactions to. The fist is Heart doing a cover of "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zeppelin in front of the remaining members of Led Zeppelin at the honors night for them at the Kennedy Center. The second song I would love to see you react to is by Playing for Change - Song Around the World doing a cover of the song "The Weight" where musicians from around the world participate in the recording of this song. The whole purpose of this is to make a difference in the world thru music. Both are incredible. Michael
If you get the chance you should watch the Patsy Cline movie called Sweet Dreams. Also fun fact the song Blue that was recorded by Leeann Rimes was written and was given to Patsy Cline to sing but she died in a plane crash before she had a chance to record it.
Before the scandal, LeAnn was THE female country artist. She won virtually every award year after year and was shunned by so many when her affair was found out. Glorious voice in any genre.
There's quite a few videos on RUclips about her plane crash and the things that she said as she boarded the plane , it's like she knew she was going to die that day 😮 ... They found her foot in a tree , Just her foot wedged in between 2 branches ! 😢 The last thing she said before boarding the plane was if it's my time to go , it's my time to go ! She had already been through 2 horrific automobile accidents in her life !
I took a girlfriend to see LeAnn Rimes at the Phoenix coliseum to a packed auditorium in 2001 it was amazing she is very personable and loves to sing!!!
You have to listen to LeAnn's song Blue. She recorded it at 13 and she's AMAZING.
I grew up listening to Patsy and was still a kid when Leann came out. I had such a crush on her. That voice!
YES!
Yesss
AGREED! That was the song that pole-vaulted her into fame.
Wanted to comment the exact same thing!

The song was produced by Owen Bradley, who produced most of Patsy's songs. I think that's why people said she was the next Patsy.
He heard her singing the National Anthem.
Bill Mack, a Dallas DJ, wrote "Blue" for Patsy Cline, but she died in an airplane crash before she could record it.
Most female singers shy away from Patsy Cline covers. Leann is the only person with the chops to do her covers. She is a fantastically gifted singer.
Thanks Britt---------------------------Leah can bring it --------but only ONE Patsy! glad you found Patsy!
Leann is truly one of the best female country artists of all time. She won a Grammy at age thirteen.
Just adding my voice to those talking about Blue. For me it's one of the most beautiful songs ever. Even if you don't film it, you should have the pleasure of hearing it.

Hey, Britt! Stunning as usual. LeAnn is a top 10 female voice for me. Her range and power is phenomenal!
This is a beautiful tribute to Patsy. You are right Britt, Patsy sang country and crossover pop songs. RIP! 🙏
LeaAnn was a prodigy and is still at it today. One of the great voices in American Music.
LeAnn topped the charts at age 13 with her rendition of "Blue." She really admired legend Patsy Cline. If you are captivated by this , check her out at 13 years old singing 'Blue' and also 'How do I live'.
That was 99 not 82!
@Chickenoots Thanks. The 1982 was just a predictive text error. That said, the year was 1996, not 1999, that "Blue" was a breakout hit.
LeAnn Rimes has THE most incredible voice!!!
I agree with you Brit Patsy wasn't only a country singer had she not been taken to soon she would have been the Whitney Houston of her generation ❤
Once again, you have taken one of the most beautiful songs, sung by one of the most beautiful singers, and made this your own and even improved upon it! LeeAnn is the very best female singer, in my opinion, that ever graced us with something more special than anyone could ever imagine! LeAnn is the greatest singer no one talks about. Check out her performances when she won The Masked Singer a couple of years ago.
She recently won the mask singer as the sun. She had been away from the spotlight for awhile and her performances were off the chart and it is worth checking out👀
Definitely, she was amazing on every song she sang!!
Oh, thanks! I don’t typically watch but I’ll have to check it out.
It doesn't matter if you pick LeAnn Rimes's first hit Blue, or her cover of Brandi Carlile's, The Story, or anything in between, Leann's voice is pure gold. ... One of my absolute favorite voices for years.
Leann's first hit Blue was supposed to be recorded by Patsy but she passed before she had a chance to record it
LeAnn has an amazing voice. Beautiful tribute to Patsy for sure ❤️
I am so glad you found this tribute... I am crazy in love with your review!!
Leann Rimes 1st album was her 1st album. She will ALWAYS be my favorite artist she is a LEGEND❤❤❤
Great Reaction Britt. LeAnn does have a beautiful voice. The last song she sang there, she did a cappella. You should check out her singing Amazing Grace and How Do I Live.
She started singing at two years old and won her first competition at five years old 👍🙏👣
OMG! I’m so excited that you are reacting to this because it’s so incredible and I have never seen anyone else react to it. ❤
Leann is one of my favorite female voices of all time. Great reaction!
Patsy Cline's song Crazy was written by Willie Nelson. One of the greatest song writers of the last 2 centuries... and he's still kickin. 👍
Leann's version of How do I live and Amazing Grace will bring tears to your eyes they are a must watch if your jumping down that rabbit hole
LeAnn is a real vocal artist who can really actually sing pop & country 💯
A new song was written for Patsy to sing and before she had a chance to sing it the tragic accident occurred. This is not accurate. Bill Mack wrote and recorded the song himself. Though it sold well in the area Mack was from, it was not a big hit for him nationwide. I think patsy was there and giving Leanne her blessing and she felt it
Blue and the little girl that pushed it to the top LeAnn Rimes. I adored Sweet Dreams.
You must listen to her song “Blue” as others in the comments have said it will drop your jaw- especially since she was 13 when she recorded it
I'm 81 yo and am hard core classic country. Starting in the 1050s listening to songs that were old then.
I remember exactly where I was the first time I heard LeAnn sing BLUE! She instantly became my favorite female singer,
Today, she and Carrie Underwood are co-favorites.
Lee Ann is one of the greatest singers ever. Great performance really enjoyed it.
My life has been guided by Crazy.I never knew why I loved her so much.except when I heard her sing Crazy. it resonated with me. I KNOW what love is.
Second comment … Leann won The Masked Singer a couple years back. You need to listen to all her performances leading up to winning. AMAZING.
I love how you described PC singing as her "taking her time". YAAS girl, yaas! 👏
Her and Loretta Lynn were friends. And she had a big country hit around 1961 called "Crazy" that Willie Nelson wrote.
Crazy that Willie is still with us. He experienced and was a part of a lot of amazing music history.
LeAnn Rimes did a great job in singing Patsy Cline songs as a tribute to her ❤🙏🙌💪
Patsy's Sweet Dreams has always been my favorite country female song! Love the orchestra arrangement! I was about 5 years old when she died! I remember also listening to the Everly brothers! Their wake up little Susie I still watch the video of that song today! I lived with my Maternal grandparents and had a Aunt who was still at home who was Susie! I believe LeAnn was discovered on star search as a child. I love her hit “how do I live without you”
Lee Ann Rimes and Tanya Tucker were both very young when they first started performing. Tanya was and Adult when Lee Ann started up. Advice was offered based on age and what she was expected to experience
Two great talent , unbelievable singer ,both really moved country music into the new age
Please do watch Patsy's original Sweet Dream. It is stunning. By the way, I love your hair!
You must hear leann rimes song Blue
Great reaction! She's amazing! Thanks for keeping great music alive!
Lee-Anns’ emotional connection with Patsy is so real..I’m sure
because at a very young age it was told to her unrelentingly.
Doesn’t make it any less real..and she has an almost ethereal

doing that song Britt! Love you, love your reactions. ❤️🔥
I love hearing your reactions to these amazing vocals.. thank you.
Yes i would listen her with that voice is magic and remind me Patsy .❤❤❤❤❤❤
Please react to Blue by LeAnn Rimes.
The man who wrote it in 1958, Bill Mack, was trying to get the song to Patsy to record, but she was killed in the plane crash before that happened.
He kept the song on ice for over 30 years, until he heard LeAnn and said he wanted her to record it. LeAnn has the same "yodeling" quality in her voice that Patsy did. Listen to Blue by LeAnn and try to imagine Patsy singing it.
She almost holds a candle to Patsy! That's saying something!!
Patsy Cline the Queen of Country Music👸RIP🙏😇🕊🌹Gone but Not Forgotten
When you heard Blue when she was a young teen, you’d swear you were hearing patsy.
Mandy Barnett does the best tributes to Patsy. Played her in the musical about Patsy for several years I believe.
There will never be another Patsy !!!
Thanks for this reaction, Britt. LeAnn is a top-tier singer. You should check out her video of Nothing Better to Do.
thank you so much!! I will keep it in mind ✍️
Patsy Kline, Dolly Parton, Reba, and LeAnn greatest country female singers! 😊❤️👍
T
The song that put her on the map was " Blue" I would suggest taking A listen to it.
Check out "Blue", recorded by Leann at 13 y/o. It's incredible.

Listen to her first ever single Blue, then you will see why at 14 she was called the next Patsy Cline.
You are really a great reactor to music, comedy and more. Great wit, humor, voice, sense of sincerity and ability to clearly articulate things so clearly and quickly.
Was lucky that YT algorithms hit me with your content.
Thanks!!
It's been a looong time since Leeann was considered a rising young star.
Patsy left such a large hole in country music that Leann could have made a fortune just as tribute artist.
I'm new to your channel and it was so good to see your reaction just now. Patsy Cinee's songs sung by Leanne Rimes was wonderful. . Have you reeacted to the AGT audition of Chappel Hart? If not i hope you do. Their answer to Jolene is terrific.
Love your thoughts. Beauty and brains are a great combination.
In March 1963, Cline was killed in a plane crash along with country performers Cowboy Copas, Hawkshaw Hawkins, and manager Randy Hughes, during a flight from ...
1963 Camden PA-24 crash.
You should totally watch the movie about Patsh's life "Sweet Dreams, starring Jessica Lang and Ed Harris.
Leann Rimes and Joss Stone - Summertime is wonderful you have to see it , thanks Britt sdos Argentina .
They called her the new Pasty Cline. Check out all the performances of the Mask Singer " The Sun"
I like your videos, Britt. And yes - LeAnns voice is mesmerizing, IMO. Some singers just hit notes, and other singers (like LeAnn) feel the music and transport the listener to a different place.
Thank you for this Britt. I choked there at the end.
Michael
Patsy was great and Leah is fabulous. You should look into Linda Ronstadt sing Blue Moon
She was on the Masked Singer a few years ago. Leann is great.
You can hear the maturity in Leann’s voice here vs when she first recorded Blue. Amazing vocals, what can you say…
If you get the chance you should watch the Patsy Cline movie called Sweet Dreams. Also fun fact the song Blue that was recorded by Leeann Rimes was written and was given to Patsy Cline to sing but she died in a plane crash before she had a chance to record it.
Another great awesome reaction from you thank you for sharing your always so passion and awesome on your youtube channel .❤️👍
My all time favorite is Patsy Cline. This tribute by Leanne Rimes is fantastic. There's a singer called Mandy Barnett that was pretty close
You should check out Leann Rimes' performances as the SUN when she won the masked singer. Simply stunning :0)
Before the scandal, LeAnn was THE female country artist. She won virtually every award year after year and was shunned by so many when her affair was found out. Glorious voice in any genre.
"Aviation Accident"
I can just picture George Carlin rolling his eyes and saying "Plane Crash!...Azzholes"
She is exactly like Patsy, really freaking amazing!
Blue! Blue! Blue! She was 13 when she recorded Blue and you'll understand why they tabbed her the next Patsy.
