Patsy’s songbook is phenomenal. She’s one of the most legendary female singers of all time. It’s an absolute tragedy she lost her life so young, only 30 years old. Her voice will continue to wow all these generations later. 🕊🌹👸🏻
Such a great voice!! The Idol of most female singers!! I frequent many fun Kareoke bar nights, and it is a great tribute to her, that every single time a lady will sing one of her tunes🎶 And I think that happens at least across North America!!
My beautiful foxhound is named Patsy Kline. Three cigarettes is the best.
She was absolutely a trail blazer in country music.. One of the best to ever do it! RIP Patsy. ❤️
♥ The teardrop in Patsy's voice can't be replicated.
Teardrop is a perfect description!
@@debbiealvey3537 Thanks! ♥
I think Patsy Cline was an early crossover performer. People, who were not necessarily country fans enjoyed her music because of her voice and style. Thanks for reacting.
You are so right.
You can like this type of music or not, but you can't say a bad syllable about Patsy's voice or singing. The lady was a titan.
Ooo, LOVE her being called a Titan!!! ❤️
Music in the old days was just miles better than now in EVERY genre.
The man that played steel guitar on this song was Don helms. I was proud to know him. He was the steel player for Hank Williams SR.
That’s wonderful!
Also the co-star of a hilarious Hank Jr. song, "The Ballad Of Hank Williams" - "So he fired my ass and he fired Jerry Rivers/He fired everybody just as hard as he could go."
Yes, BJ, she was the "go to" at that time, 50s & early 60s, before Dolly. She indeed was a big influence on all women in country music
Asia & BJ, her "I Fall to Pieces" is next for you! 1961.
Great suggestions. "Crazy" is one of my favorites.
@@mkmstillstackin written by Willy Nelson! Such a great song!
They did "Crazy" 9 mos. ago.
@@markmacdonald8512 thank you
More of Patsy, please. I personally love her bluesy sound voice. "I Fall to Pieces" and "Crazy" are two of my favorites. And yes, she influenced many singers who came after her -- including Dolly.
"Sweet Dreams" is such a good song for Patsy's voice's range and timbre -- she gets to show off her considerable vocal skills and artistry.
Patsy was called the queen of country music. She has a number of great songs. I love her version of Tennessee Waltz. I believe Crazy was released after her passing. I used to go walking through the fields after midnight
She was definitely the "go to" female singer in country at that time. Two of her more popular songs that you should react to are slower and allow her to really show off her vocal abilities: I Fall to Pieces, and Crazy (an early composition from Willie Nelson).
Thanks for mentioning that Willie wrote it, most totally miss that. There's an old clip of him singing it before Patsy if you can find it.
Great Patsy song!! This wasn’t her song originally, but this is one of those cases where she made it HER OWN! She slowed down the tempo to match her sultry singing and it is simply perfect!
Love Patsy's music.Such a wonderful classic country voice.
Wife here...Absolute Classic!!!...True Country Music Royalty!!..Good points as always.."Melancholy" on point as always you two..Yeesss she surely was one of the trailblazers for Females in Country.!!., along with a few others..Thanks for the great selection!!
Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn were born the same year, but Patsy was the first country female to really break through and have crossover hits. There were other women like Kitty Wells who had success but Patsy was sort of the first big breakthrough star. Patsy had kind of a lousy record deal early on and didn't really break until she signed a new deal around 1960 and she was gone by 1963. Dolly moved to Nashville in 1966 after graduating high school so Patsy, Loretta, and Kitty were the first wave of bigger female stars and Dolly, Tammy Wynette and Dottie West were the later 60s.
Yeah, Loretta was married, and started poppin'-out babies (6), at 13; so, she got delayed, a minute!!
Patsy was definitely every female country singer's hero!! Dolly, Reba, and Wynonna, have all called her out!!!
Loretta and Pasty were best friends.
Patsy died March 5,1963. She influenced just about every female country singer (and others)...and definitely before Dolly.
Patsy is one of my mother's favorites. Patsys voice is something else. I agree with you guys, that her vocals are melancholy, bringing a certain feeling to the song. Patsy is lonely and missing someone who was/is special to her. Thanks for the reaction, it was great as always.
Enjoyed this Patsy's first hit.Number 2 on the country charts and made top 20 on pop charts.
I’ve heard this song many times and I’ve never considered to think of it as a metaphor. It makes so much more sense if you consider it as a metaphor.
Legendary performer! Can't go Wrong with Patsy Cline!. Dad is playing the Steel guitar.
All her songs are legendary as she is. My favorite is Sweet Dreams
She had one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard
My granddaddy had me singing patsy songs when I was in diapers lol. He, my , mom have always been bonded through our love of all kinds of music. I still love to sing these songs.
Patsy could have chosen to sing in another genre. In fact, some her songs were country and pop hits. What a voice she had - So powerful, with perfect phrasing and tone. She hit the notes exactly right up and down the scale. What a range! Love me some Patsy Cline!
Patsy Cline was the big dog...died before Dolly came on the scene. Loretta Lynn was a young contemporary pushing onto the scene at the height of Patsy's popularity. 'Crazy' by Patsy should be next...was written by Willie Nelson.
Oh yeah, back in Patsy's Day, in the 1950s, you could walk down the highway after midnight. I always envisioned her going from bar to bar looking for him hoping to find him looking for her as well.
I absolutely LOVE Asia's face when she focuses on a singer??!!
Patsy Cline passed on so sudden and young!!! She's a LEGEND!
As far as female country singers....top #5!!!!! Love y'all!
Timeless music with a voice like that. I was born when this song was released. Legends always stand the test of time. Interesting comments Asia. Thanks for reacting.
Lol at Asia’s “hold up” look when Patsy gets to the walking for miles on the highway part.
I had the same reaction in my 20’s when I really paid attention to the lyrics 😄
It was amazing that y'all like this, it's very old hard country music that alot of others may have said uhh that's just to much for me.But y'all are really open-minded which is why I enjoy watching your videos.
Another artist that was lost too soon, yet from another plane crash, R.I.P. Patsy. Also check out I Fall to Pieces.
I have heard this song hundreds of times and as I was listening to the lyrics this time, I thought to myself.."wait, what?" and then Asia had me laughing when she said, "you can't be walking like that..." and I agree:)
I had the same reaction when she sang, "I walk for miles along the highway..." How have I never heard that line before? haha
Walking along a country lane after midnight in the 50s was usually quite safe, and secluded.
@@garyarnett1220 Those were the days. Sigh.
@@garyarnett1220 🎯
Since you was asking about the women of country,
Loretta Lynn, who was friends with Patsy and kinda came in after Patsy was already a star, really made arguably the biggest impact as woman in country music. Patsy has many hits though before he tragic death.
Back in those days a lot of songs were meant to just vent emotion--sad, kinda dark on purpose--cathartic kinda, soul--baring.
Loretta was more blunt and sassy. I recommend start with "Coal Miner's Daughter". Other faves: Fist City, You're Looking At Country, You Ain't Woman Enough To Take My Man, Don't Come Home A'Drinking With Loving On Your Mind, The Pill
Probably the greatest female voice in music history. Her voice gives me chill bumps every time. Died tragically young in a plane crash while at her peak.
I love that you guys gave this a listen. Theses days not many young folks will give the old songs a try. I love this song.❤️
I grew up in a small town. Patsy Cline was playing on the juke boxes in diners and cafes and people would be dancing by their tables and in the center of the floor! It was a wonderful time to grow up! Thanks for the memories! Things were so much simpler then! It was wonderful!!!
Patsy can sing!!!!!!This is scraping the surface..you must do more!
Patsy Cline was great. Thanks! She was several years before Dolly. There were girls singing before Patsy, but not many nearly as good.
Love this song love her voice
One of the truly great female voices.
I LOVE Pasty Cline. And this is one of my favorites. I think it was the first one I ever heard from her.
Hope you guys are doing good! 🖤
Classic, such a beautiful voice.
Patsy could make even a trivial song sound good, & a good song sound great. You'll get lots of requests for Crazy now that you've done Walkin' After Midnight, if you haven't already. You can't really go wrong with any of her (very deep) catalog, but some of my favorites are Three Cigarettes in an Ashtray, A Poor Man's Roses (or a Rich Man's Gold), & She's Got You. People can argue about which country queen came first or who had the most influence, but regardless...there's no one else who sounds like Patsy Cline. Never will be, either!
Patsy came before Dolly. She kind of mentored Loretta Lynn in the late 50's / early 60's. She died in a plane crash when she was still pretty young.
You guys are correct. Basically she was "The Mother of Country Music." In the 40s, 50s, and 60s. Similar to Hank Williams Sr.
In obout'69 I was in 5th grade, and was hanging out at a neighbor kid's place on a weekend. While I was there, his dad set a small box full of 45rpm records next to the door, for it to be taken to the trash. He asked if I wanted any records, and said I could take any that I wished to take. I grabbed one random record out of the box, and put it with my jacket. When I got home I took it to the family stereo system to give it a listen. It was a promo record, with two different artists' songs. On one side was a song called Walk On By, by Leroy Van Dyke, and on the other was this song. I fell in love with the song and her voice on first listen, and have been a fan of hers for over five decades.
This reminds me of Christmas time. My grandmother or dad use to always play this song and country around that time of the year.
“Blue” by Leann Rimes was written for Patsy Cline
YES, Patsy Cline influenced and paved the way for numerous artists and her music still does to this day!
Hank Williams had the heaviest impact on country music. He is the father of country music.
"I'm so lonesome I could cry",
"hey good looking",
"honky tonkin",
"move it on over"
by Hank Williams and many more are classics.
I like the beat makes you feel like you are walking, she paints a good picture, you can see her walking and seeing the weeping willow and the stars.
Patsy was the greatest female country music singer ever. During her entire career up to her death, she was the queen bee. She was definitely the one that all of the other female artists aspired to be. She was easily the most popular female and top 5 of all country artist of that era. It was a very big deal when she died in a plane crash. The entire country music world was stunned and saddened. She was very much loved by her contemporaries and fans.
The first time I heard that song was from her biopic sweet dreams Jessica Lang played her in that movie. You should also watch coal miners daughter starring Sissy Spacek as Loretta and Beverly Deangelo as Patsy that will give you a bit of a glimpse of the friendship between Patsy and Loretta
The most talented female country singer of all time,
My inspiration..... I am 43 and grew up listening to Patsy.... Perfection!!!!
There is a "male" version of this song released by an artist named Calvin Coolidge. Which later was found out to be Patsy. They took her recording slowed it down to 33 RPM, then pressed it onto a single to be played at 45 RPM. To get it back to her original voice it would have to been played at 60 RPM. Only 250 copies of it were ever released.
Yes! Patsy WAS a trailblazer. She started out in the country charts but became a huge crossover artist in the pop charts. This song is almost the least of her songs that you might here.
Check out "Crazy"
I grew up listening to country - was 15 when Patsy passed. No one can cry a song like Patsy.
Legend!
Thank you soooo much for this
I remember my grandpa dancing with grandma around the living room to Patsy Cline
🙏🌹🎶✌️☺️
Wow. He made a great point about the lyrics. The song is a metaphor for whats going through her mind late at night because she can't sleep, she's obsessing trying to find her love. Never saw it that way. Good job BJ.
There is an upbeat version of this song from when Patsy is younger. My father had owned a copy of the record which is an obscured recording. Most people know this version of the song.
I am old enough to remember this from when it was first released. This has always been one of my favorites of all her numbers which are all good.
Thank You, my minds eye gets a glimpse of Mom doing the stroll everytime i hear this!
Only around for 8 years. Around the time of her two #1 songs she was in a car accident. Died at age 30 in a plane crash. She influenced generations of singers. Read her story
A pure vocalist whose instrument was her voice. Linda Ronstadt is the only person with a similar vocal instrument of just her voice. Patsy was killed a plane crash and we lost a true treasure.
Linda also did a great cover of 'Crazy'..
growing up in the time period when i did i listened to everything and appreciated it for what it was. i am so glad i still have the mantra of if i like it i just like it.
There is a movie of Patsy's life. It is worth a watch. It also briefly covers her friendship with Lorettta Lynn. Died way to young at 30
And Beverly D'Angelo as Patsy Cline appears in "Coal Miner's Daughter," the Loretta Lynn biopic.
Movie was called “Sweet Dreams”. I was going to school in Winchester VA (her home town) when it came out. They had the premiere there & the entire town just stopped everything for it.
I have several Patsy CDs. Legendary voice
Great voice. Legend.
The order is Patsy Cline, Dottie West, Loretta Lyn, Peggy Sue, Crystal Gayle, then Dolly Parton. Crystal Gayle who is the sister to Loretta Lynn and Peggy Sue is one of the last greats of country music from the 60s since Loretta died.
Patsy Cline is still regarded as the first Lady of country music by many. She paved the way for everyone that followed. Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton carried the torch after her tragic death. Bur her appeal is universal. Listen to her sing SHE'S GOT YOU and SO WRONG to know why. Enjoy.
A voice u can float on! Love Patsy! Great reaction!👠👠👠👠
Patsy was definitely a go to and influenced so many other artists!
Love this song and her voice, it's so beautiful. A song of hers you guys should check out is She's Got You
She's one of the greats! My fave by her is Leaving On Your Mind...but any song suggested below is worth listening to...you should watch the movie Sweet Dreams starring the great Jessica Lange...its about Patsy Cline!!
One of THE voices of all time.
Patsy Cline is considered country and imo would be on the Mount Rushmore of country music. But there’s definite elements of soul and do wap in her music. Crazy is her biggest hit, fantastically displays her vocal range and was written by another member of the country Mount Rushmore imo, Willie Nelson. Y’all def need to check that one out
Yes….she paved the way for many, including Dolly.
She was before Dolly. Dolly came around in the sixties when she was on The Porter Wagoner show. Patsy’s voice is incredible! She was taken away far to so!
This is from an era in the fifties when people traveled long distances across country looking for work or to escape a bad circumstance. Lonely people traveling by bus staying in cheap motels, finding company in coffee shops or cheap bars, honky-tonks, doing their laundry in laundromats and wistfully looking and hoping for a better life.
This is a classic. Love Patsy Cline!
Back in baby's arms and of course the ultimate Tennessee waltz .
Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn used to tour together . They were best friends .
Patsy wrote none of the songs she recorded, but she is one of those who lives the song as she sings it, those who were in the studio with her said her tears were real no matter what the song. Listen to Faded Love and you will hear it
Released in 1957. (I was 3. lol)
You could safely walk anywhere anytime of night in most towns/cities.
She used to walk with her man after midnight, she's remembering those moments and longing for those times, first verse explains it all! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
That power voice and a steel guitar. That's all you need.
This is one of the best country voices around. Patsy had so many great hits such as "She's Got You", "When I Get Through With You", "Sweet Dreams", "So Wrong", "Leavin' on Your Mind", "I Fall To Pieces" "San Antonio Rose", "Blue Moon Of Kentucky", "Half As Much", "He Called Me Baby", "Faded Love", "Imagine That". She was only 31 when she died in a plane crash in 1963. In 1985 Jessica Lange starred in the movie about Patsy's life called "Sweet Dreams". "Home Free" does a great cover of "Crazy".
Patsy Cline was the real first woman of country. For 1957 she had a beautiful voice. Recording back then was way different from today
Loretta Lynn looked up to Patsy Cline. Patsy took Loretta under her wing to help her with her stage presence. She was definitely a trail blazer. You'll see that in the movie Coal Miner's Daughter, the life story of Loretta Lynn.
There was a lot of blues in this country song. She was the Queen of country music, the biggest female country star, and good friends with Loretta Lynn.
Great biopic of her life. Jessica Lange plays her very well😍
Patsy Cline was a friend and an inspiration to Loretta Lynn before Patsy's tragic plane crash. She was an amazing artist and what is crazy is Willie Nelson wrote some of her songs. I can't remember which ones but I was shocked to find that out.
Willy wrote crazy in 1956 while driving around in his car in Houston.
@@elevenbucks5682 oh ok thanks. I couldn't remember which songs.
I would love to hear Asia sing some Patsy Cline ❤️
Reminds of sitting in the back seat of dad's 64 impala ,he loved country
Please look her up. She was lost to us at 30!!! She shaped women in County and all genres for generations to come
Y'all need to react to the movie "Coal Miner's Daughter" about the life of Loretta Lynn. Loretta and Patsy were best friends.
Patsy was one of the first cross over artist on country and pop music. Her songs have lived on for decades, even for non country fans
She was my first crush, around 1967.
I love your reactions...you guys are one of the two RUclips channels I like before I watch, just because I know it's fire before I do watch. Keep up the great content...and maybe look into doing movie reactions...might be worthwhile.
Thanks for the nice comments! We actually already have a movie reaction channel.

Back when she recorded this walking was a completely different vibe! There were only 3 billion people in the world compared to today's 8 billion. The roads were deserted at night since most folks still went to bed with the chickens or by 10:00 except on the weekends. And day or night you always took a long walking stick.
