Wilson D9 Forged cheaper again than the Callaway Rogue ST Pro. Same loft, fully forged head, more muted sound. Similar performance. I know which I would choose. Maybe a head to head video of the D9 Forged vs the Callaway Mike? David vs Goliath!
I just got back from 2nd swing. I liked the fell of the Wilson d9’s but they sat very odd behind the ball in the green/turf. Almost as if the club wanted to close
I just purchased the d9 forged. They stuck out from the other lefty sets available to me. Very impressed with the look, sound and little to no offset. Was surprised to have the 7iron carry 175 with 6500-7000 spin for me.
I had a fitting earlier this week. Tried both these clubs and went with the Calloway’s as I felt I had much better control of the club in my swing. It also gave a much tighter dispersion and better result on a miss hit. The lower price was a very welcome bonus at the end of the fitting.
It will be interesting to see if Callaway goes back to the rogue St pro design. For me it was one of the best looking irons Callaway has come out with and obviously a direct competitor to the 790 and in this review possibly better! Still considering buying some.
Early last year I was custom fit for 2019 T-200’s, 4-GW. Awesome clubs with AMT red graphite shafts. If I was in the market now it would be either Callaway Rouge ST Pro’s or Mizuno MP 225’s. Just too much $ to drop, I’ll play my T-200’s for about 5 years until I retire then see what’s available in the players distance category. Next gen 225’s or ST Pros
I wanted to buy p790. But during the fitting, the ST Pro felt a lot better and they were way more consitent. Took them although the P790 look much better IMO. Better golf is more fun then better looking golf clubs :-)
I used the p790 in a rental set with stiff shafts. I liked and enjoyed them a lot but I thought that the top line was really thick looking down on it. But very solid club to strike with
Thank you Mike, I guess I made the right decision, picked up the 6,7,8 rogue st pros with the Apex TCBs on the bottom of the bag, loving the feel of the TCBs but definitely can't hit them with the long irons, time will tell, thanks again Mike !
Both great irons....Thanks for the review Michael....I am still looking to try out the Mizuno 225's...All though I have played Callaway irons in the past, the XP Pro irons before I switched to Wilson Staft FG V6 irons...Also Great irons ...
Callaway has almost never been the value brand at the middle-to-top end of their line, but this is among the best value for looks and performance in its category. It’s held it’s value pretty well over a year as well
The comparisons are more to do with the high sales volumes of P790. Beware the flyer is all I will say. No way would I want that extra hot shot with low spin that suddenly flies 10+ yards too long!
Looks like the Callaway is a degree flatter. Not sure if it is for sure but when you had them laying down next to each other thats what I saw. Then the Dynamic Lie on all the shots looked like the Callaway was on average flatter at impact.
I’ve seen this comment a lot, and I’m curious how you compare the two. Apex pro 21 has one of the smallest profiles of any players distance iron on the market. It has one of, if not the smallest top line and is smaller heel to toe than any other iron I’ve seen in that category aside from maybe a T100. I think in terms of package and performance, the normal apex matches up closer to the P790.
Only 8, 9, pw are different. Cally 8 & 9 irons are 0.5° stronger, and Pw is 2° stronger. The review is with 7 iron which as he says are identical loft at 30.5°

Can I ask what shaft you got in the callaways?
Was it the rifle tour flighted in stiff or regular?

I have tested these two and the ping i525 and callaway came out on top better looking, better consistency and price winner winner

Hi,
What shaft did you use in both of these clubs?
Thanks
cobra's new forged tec can't be missed
Its been a year and im still loving my st pros

I bought the Apex UW after watching your review and I couldn’t be happier with it! One of the best clubs in my bag.
Great 👍

Interesting… 8 iron rogue pro st 34.5 degrees and 9 iron TCB 42 degrees. How do you close the gap?
Do you think the black badge on the ST might start to get a bit banged up after a while in the bag?
It might pop off.
I reckon it looks a bit cheap right out of the plastic actually. Not much bag appeal on the Callaways for my eyes

Very nice overview. The callaway looks really nice. Just wish those lofts weren't quiet that jacked but for alot people that will work.

I have the Original TM P790 and the original Callaway Rogue Pro's, love them both. Maybe you can do a video comparing them to the original irons.
All these comparisons to the TM P790 Irons makes me think that the P790s is the iron set to get.
It’s a lovely iron, I nearly got them but went with Srixon ZX5
They are great irons. I have them.

@@cameronloveless1751 I have P790s. Hardest club to shape ball flight ever. The ball comes off the face too fast.
@@jeffnahass8373 ⚡️ 🤣
Might look at ST Pro when it’s time to upgrade from Apex 19. Thanks.
The TM’s will hold their value better when you go to trade them in a few years from now. 2017 P790s are still selling for $700+
Please do a comparison video of 225 vs rogue st pro / rogue st max
Are the Rogue ST Pro better than the Epic forged Michael?
Im still loving the st pros
Mizuno Pro 225 wins this category IMO. Cheers .
Did you test all 3? I'm mizuno biased so just curious
@@InsuranceSpecialist I owned the P790’s sold them and bought the Mizuno 225’s
Agree
Loses for lefties
Sure, if you’re not watching your pennies… they’re even more expensive than the P790’s

The pro at my golf club has been seeing better results in fittings with the Ping i525 over the P790
Imo the big black badge on the Callaway completely spoils their look.
thanks mike
That spin seems very low Michael? Are you typically low spin or is it the irons?
yes I tend to be on the lower side
I love my set of ST Pro’s! I use the UST Mamiya Dart graphite shafts in mine and they feel so good, so buttery, like powdering a new born baby’s bum.
Just got mine as well and I totally agree. Went with the project x ls shafts.
Are those Nike shoes?
P790 should go against Callaway apex pro 21

P770's are best of 2022
Why is that? Are the 770s good for mid handicaps?
