  • The Players-Distance Irons available in 2022 include the PING i525, Callaway Rogue ST Pro, Cobra KING Forged Tec, and the Mizuno Pro 225 irons. Each of these players-distance irons is designed to deliver explosive distance without sacrificing forgiveness and workability.
    In this video, 2nd Swing's Thomas Campbell and Drew Mahowald conduct a Trackman Test featuring each of these players-distance irons to identify the similarities and differences. The players-distance irons category is terrific for the experienced golfer that isn't quite ready to play the small, compact players iron.

    (My handicap is down to a 3) Your video made me happy I chose the Rogue ST Pros. I'm constant with my irons now and they are still forgiving. I was 2', 3', 5', and 11' from the holes on our 4 Par 3's last Friday. I'm starting to figure these ST Pros out. I'm really happy with them. My original problem was lack of spin and distance. I gained 10 yards per club after replacing my PXG Gen 3s and my spin increased which increased my stopping power. Overall, I couldn't be happier with my Rogue ST Pro irons.

    Great video comparison although I did experience something different when comparing the 225 with the 525. I found the longer irons (4-7) in the 225 much less forgiving than the 525. The 525s were also launching higher and much more easily than the Mizunos. Now when it came to sound and feel the 225s were much better and look better as well but I could not ignore the difference in performance in those longer irons.

    I tried both the MP 225 and Ping i525 and got virtually identical numbers. The Mizuno feel won it for me. The Ping has a noticeable ‘crack’ that was a bit off putting IMO. Thanks to the popularity of the P790 this category has really caught the attention of a wide range of golfers and OEMs.

      Agree with you as I bought them too....only thing I am finding is that if the ball is sitting up in the rough it's easy to have it come off very high on the face and then it knuckles and ends up 20 yards short even if struck well. I haven't seen any hollow body irons yet where they are hollow only on the bottom of the face.

      @@2ndswing well… it is the Goldilocks iron Thomas. Looks, forged sound and feel, not quite as long as hollow bodied irons but not far off them in terms of distance - and probably won’t get those occasional jumpers that go 10-15 yards longer. I’d sacrifice 5 yards for better consistency, and especially the sound and feel. Oh… and save a few bucks too!

    You definitely need to compare the Wilson D9 forged irons - I have not tried the Rogue ST Pro irons but I had a set of the Ping G425s - PXG Gen 5 P series - and a Demo Ping i525 7 iron and I now have the Wilson D9 Forged irons and they performed the best with tighter dispersion- The D9s are about 2 yards less than the Ping i525 7 iron but the D9s had 500 more spin and the feel is way better for the Wilson D9 Forged irons with very little offset like the i525 irons- Not to mention how much cheaper they are than the Ping i525s or the PXG irons

    I was expecting the Cobra King Forged Tech to have the longest carry because it has 27* loft and the others are 30 to 30.5. That is also why it has the lowest spin. I am impressed the most with the Callaway Rogue ST Pro due to good carry while also having the most spin, and highest ball speed. Either the Rogue has some magic sauce, or you just hit it best.

    Great video. I'd like to see how these perform and compare with a lower swing speed - especially since Thomas makes the comment about being concerned that a player with a lower swing speed might have trouble producing a flight with a descent angle that would produce sufficient stopping power. AND I' a bit of a data guy so I'd like to see those numbers even if stopping power weren't a concern.

    • @canyonaro
      @canyonaro 2 года назад

      Project X IO is a very stout shaft. A weaker player will be using a higher launching, higher spinning shaft. Definitely important to get fitted to make sure you have a shaft/combo that gets you the right flight window and stopping power.

    • @chrisguider4250
      @chrisguider4250 2 года назад +1

      @@canyonaro you're correct about both the shaft being a little much for most players who have lower swing speeds and you're also correct that everyone should get fit. However, if you're only comparing products you can still collect that data - more data sets with only one variable, swing speed in this instance, is usually beneficial - remember I'm a data guy. However, having said all of that, I'm more interested in a comparison of the iron heads with a slower swing speed using a shaft more suited to that swing speed.

    • @chrisguider4250
      @chrisguider4250 2 года назад +1

      Actually what would be great would be to compare the iron heads with a slower swing speed using the Project X IO shaft and then compare them again with that slower swing speed and a shaft better suited to that swing speed. That would give you a total of 3 data sets and viewers could actually see the difference in using a shaft that is better fitted for Thomas's swing than a slower swing and an appropriate shaft for that swing speed across all of the iron heads. that would be a great test.

      What I REALLY want to see is launch & spin on a 30 degree T100 or Mizuno 221 6-iron at 37.5" compared to these power bats. Ideally, cut it down to 37" to be the same length as these 7-irons. Loft for loft, do you actually win anything in the ball speed/spin tradeoff battle by choosing these models?
      I'm going to try this myself with PXG irons because they've made it easy by making their XP irons 1/2" long, so the XP model 8-iron is the exact same loft & length as the T model 7-iron.
