Sort of related- a few weeks back I discovered the existence of de-nib files, as I'm a painting newb, I had a ton of runs on my Dad's van, but after allowing time to dry, they helped knock down the bulk of the runs in no time, meaning only a bit of wet sanding needed to finish the job. Highly recommended if you're learning and don't fancy spending hours sanding back your mistakes.
Hi Brian. Crazy things happen. Tolecut blocks are my favorite for these defects. I like a tape trick. Great explanation. The end result came out slick. Enjoy your weekend. Grab a cold one after baking in the spray booth.
It worked and I will tell you, it sometimes doesn’t but lesson learned😀. Ty for the comment, I already took your advice before your comment, enjoyed a nice drink last night. Ty again always for the kind words. .
That is amazing! I build and fly model planes and paint with lacquer and automotive products. Your channel has been immensely helpful! I wish I knew that trick when I sprayed clear on my last plane, I had a huge run that took hours to wet sand down to an acceptable level
Great tips on paint runs. I watched a video on 3M Collision Repair RUclips channel on similar approach with clearcoat. They also have a great video on how to fix fisheyes in the paint booth. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience.
Thank you Brian for this content! At first, things seems to be easy, when you have luck, but professions comes, when you have to fix such problem, like this. I have never seen this fixing method, but very happy that you shared this know how. Tumbs up!
Hell all these years I never thought to try that. Thats pretty good thanks for that. Runs in clear can happen to any of us. Especially if switching between medium and high solids clears depending on the job
Bryan idk if you have any clue of the reach of your videos but After watching your videos for over 3 years I finally got the courage to get a couple guns and start trying out. Next month I start my new job as a painter for a body shop in NY. Thanks Bryan ! 🤌🏽
I've painted quite a few cars in my lifetime, mainly my own cars or friends cars. Seeing guys like you (professional) is always so interesting to see how you fix errors. Great job.
I wait min until the next day to try sanding .my favorite technique is the razor blade method. Just has to be set up enuf ir light run well or couple days later .I need to try those blocks out and sandpaper heard awesome thing about them
Excellent job Brian, I’ve used the tape trick many times 😅🙏it’s a life saver unless a fella gets too cocky and makes a huge mess 😂. The gun had a really nice fan but it seemed flow out was difficulty #9; you gave a master class with it but I would have probably dry sprayed the heck out of the job. I need to invest in some of those tolcuts too-really handy. Always appreciate the advice and tips brother, thanks 😊
I do the tape fix on runs right away while paint is wet, get the bulk out of it. I then carry on and apply another coat or two with extra drying time and the blemish disappears and or is an easy sand and buff later.
Hi Brian, Yep have learned a lot from your very thoughtful videos. You have been like a video teacher to me and I imagine many more newbies. I'm an airbrush artist and primarily work on motorcycles and really only spray 2k clear. I use waterbased paints for mural work. So your vids on clear coats and spray guns have been a great help. Also tips on fixing stuff believe me come in very helpful. Thanks again for putting your experience and knowledge out there!!!
Love your videos. What was that move you did at 6:41-6:43? It looked like you pumped the handle on the spray gun a couple times. So I’m just curious, (and because I’m fairly new at this) what was the purpose?
I take a fresh razor blade and drag it across the high part of the run to know it down fast. Then sand once it’s close to level. Self taught before youtube was the go to place to learn.
I keep seeing these ready to spray paint or ready to spray single stage. Can you talk about this and your opinion. I am looking to paint some mirror caps, wing, and a fender I was think of using single stage. All help is appreciated!
I was taught to sand runs out when i was learning how to cut and buff ....colorsand and buff ....how ever you wanna say it ....but used a paint stick and taught to stay on top of the run ....only used nibbers for dirt and dust ......for me taking it slow and taking a hard flat block ....paint stir ...or now i use a lexian block ....made from lexian sheet .....that being said ...i no longer work in the autobody industry and havent for about 20 years now but do have a project i am working on at home .......and a very good painter once told me if your not getting runs from time to time in your clear ....your not applying enough on the pannel .......guess thats why he taught me to water sand and buff way before he ever let me touch a paint gun ......
Hi Brian, great video . I have 2 of those porphis guns . 716 an the 715 . There pretty good guns . Im a Sata for the most part. I do believe the pps adapter I’m using on the porphis guns are S9 .
It works but the clear has to be dry enough that the tape doesn’t damage the clear too much. Whenever something like this happens, I am always prepared for respray
I think sometimes patience is the most important thing for us painter. Anyway awesome videos Brian. Im more interested to see that how easy u buff that black paint up without swirls haha😂😂😂
i havent pained for many many years there is stuff now I've never even heard of. also had a brain injury so have to say have little memory so have to start again. when you spray paint just to confirm can flatted all types of running parts or scratched once all flattened can laquore over it right?? even if lloks a bit sandy kind of colour paint can I still laquor over it??
Hi Brian I am using PPS1 so I maybe wrong but if I remember correctly I used the same adapter as on the black widow on the 717 with no leaks. What would that be for PPS2 26016 S9?
Prolly wont see this but i use the Spectrum kit from Harbor Freight. Got it for my FX1000 and Black Widow HVLP 2.0. Just snug it up with a wrench and never look back
I hate when that happens. I'm sure we've all been there before. We used to use those type of blocks when I worked at a car manufacturer. I thought I was the only one that made repairs in the booth lol.
bah. i was hoping this would work for plastidip, but if you let plastidip dry for 25 min, it's just straight up dry. I usually lightly blot with a paper towel in the moment, which isn't perfect, but it's way less noticeable than a run.
Example of poor spray technique: random overlaps & very inconsistent surface angle, and That ridiculously wide fan is wasting soo much product! But the drip repair is helpful
@@hilrichturner6428 if you’re going to help people learn on RUclips, it’s best to show them good technique, this is not good technique. Just because you’re a pro doesn’t make you an expert, they’re are lots of pros who stink at their job 🤷🏻♂️
U r right. For wide open fan, he is wasting too much. But, with inconsistent angle, he is familiar with this n he is not making any mistake with this for overlapping. Because, he knows where need more or where need lees.
Hello From Canada. I have been following your videos for some time now but....the commercial lengths 4min+ before the video is killing my continued interest. The 3min Super Flame Lighter is ridiculous and I am fed up with seeing it before every video. I know you need the commercials to make money but the repetitiveness' and inability to skip is ruining your great channel...Dave, fellow painter from the North.

I got some from Eastwood about 25 years ago, they are definitely a help.

Is it the metallic or is the clear hazy?
Thank you very very much 🎉
beautiful, thanks.
nice job!
What do you mean when you say not as easy to use as some other guns? What are you referring to? Thanks
Hey Brian. I just bought PRD717 and it needs an S9 adapter.
Ty!!
Great job
Awesome worked good
Brian, is that clear gun made in China?
Probably
I'm spraying Sikkens also. I really like it, what clearcoat are you using?
We using here select 4.0
@PaintSociety I haven't tried the select 4.0 but it looks really nice man. I'm using the Autoclear PC and it's pretty nice.
How can get the s27gun .I'm in Ghana Africa
Learning to fix your fuck ups is key
Was that flat black,or satin black base???
893m
@PaintSociety I used dupli color metallic pearl black do you think it's nice but not deep and dense tone of Black. !
7:18 Paint suites? Hopefully you aren’t an English teacher Brian! 😜
A lil hotttttt n the shopppp
I love my prd 715
Is that indoor/outdoor carpet in the booth?
Like90gofast pigmat. Meant for paint booths
@PaintSociety oh ok cool, appreciate it
Nitpicking but so many pro painters don't wear goggles. Day in and day out absorbing these toxic chemicals though skin and eyes can't be goog for you.
Always top
Stop the video on 9:07 the sading looks like a guy with moustache staring at you 😂
30 year Pylox spray can painter here. I've nothing to to add really.
Similar thing happened to me last year when painting my car except the gun didn't drip but I had sweat in my gloves and I dripped sweat on my panel 😞
This happens sometimes to me as well
What about if it happens on the base color coat? Same process?
If you get a run or drip in the base you’re probably going to have to clean the base back off and start over
Just wait until it dries and use 600 grit yo sand it flat. You can use water as well
@@PaintSociety so no tape to lift?
@@SamirShuaib no. Not for base. You can sand base quick because it dries quick
@@PaintSociety after the 600 grit would you another coat of base to the area or just clear after that
🔥🔥🔥
Doesn't buffing in the booth cause fisheyes?
No? Where did you hear that from
Not if you use compound without silicone lol
Thanks for the tip. I paint guitars and man this will help a lot. Thanks for sharing.
Glad to help
Whats the secret to shooting with 100 degree weather? I painted in this temperature and mine came out all dry and mottled.:(
