Another thing to note is the A7RIII has two versions. The newer version has code name ILCE-7RM3A with the "A" at the end where you get an updated higher res LCD screen and updated viewfinder. Just something to keep in mind when getting one second hand as it nearly caught me out!
Google this Sony quietly updates the a7R III, a7R IV with improved LCD panels According to the update product specifications, both the a7R III (model: ILCE-7RM3A) and a7R IV (model: ILCE-7RM4A) have improved rear LCD panels, up to 2.36 million dots compared to the 1.44 million dots in the original models. Sony notes in the the battery life of the updated cameras has dropped slightly (10 shots) when using the LCD panel. Also, based on the product photos on Sony’s website, the a7R IV (model: ILCE-7RM4A) no longer has the Sony logo under the LCD monitor. Aside from those details, it’s not clear what else, if anything, has changed.
Sony should really make you an ambassador for all the reviews you do of their cameras! Thanks for breaking down the difference in models, I was always confused by that tbh. Great review!
I have to admit I didn't know too much about the R series but after seeing your absolutely breathtaking samples images, I am very impressed. The video sample looked great as well. Brilliant review as always!
Been shooting with my a7rIII for the last 4 years for photography. I'm not much of a video shooter. This camera is Still a BEAST of the trade and I still use it as my primary go to camera.
@@RudyVisuals For a casual like me who intend to use this for mostly family photos, would you say it's worth it for the A7R III or just go balls out and get an A7R V? I intend to keep this camera for as long as possible. Thanks
Great review as always Aaron! Because you're a talented photographer, whatever you shoot always looks good regardless of the camera 😬 Haha the colour science part is so funny!!
Was able to snag one second hand for $700 with a sigma prime lens combo. Although its not the best for video compared to other newer models, the seller who did videography told me that it served him well in the music video industry. I'm excited to use it!
Great review Aaron. Even the used price now is a bit pricey for me but it seems a great option for professionals. Your photo samples are always fantastic!

It's much newer, so it has a better LCD, viewfinder, improved AF and has 61 mp instead of 42.4. So it is a better camera for sure but at almost double the price.
Hey I have had the camera for 3 years now and I’m noticing auto focusing issues that just started to happen. I’m shooting sports like football basketball and fencing , when the focus zone is on center . Sometimes the view display just gets extremely blurry like the camera is having a hard time locking on to something . Any pointers on fixing this problem? I have missed a lot of shots due to it.
The RIII is still such a solid camera. To be honest I see no reason to upgrade from my EOS R, it's still good enough for me, I can't keep up with all the new camera releases. Just seems like a cash grab imo.
I have been using a7R III for almost 3 years now and I am very happy with the photos coming out. Recently, I got a7 IV and the autofocus is even stellar. And FASTER. I notice that when using a7R III in low light conditions, at ISO 2000, it is somewhat inferior to a7 IV.
Sony made great cameras... And they keep holding the high price... Unfortunately they do not release enough firmware updates for the a7R III regarding how much it costs compared to the competition. I'd like to have color science improved on it and the new menu system. Just that
Great to hear your thoughts. Definitely agree about the lack of firmware updates. Unfortunately with the a7rIV and V I don't think older cameras will get future firmware updates anymore :(
@@RudyVisuals Since I don't really care about video I am really considering a camera like this so if i can save up for an riii i will go with that over the rii :D
The Rii and Riii have the same sensor. The Rii is a fantastic camera and I honestly regret selling it. I still use the Riii today and love it. The only improvements is better AF but it's not a huge step up and battery life. Rii batteries are cheap though if you don't mind changing batteries more often. It just comes down to what you shoot. If you shoot sports, kids, fast moving subjects the Riii is a justified upgrade

Still rocking Riii. Still recommend it today. I feel no need to "upgrade".
Upgraded from a6400 to a7R3 yesterday.

Haha glad you enjoyed it :)
Thank you so much Rudy, very helpful and informative review! God bless and good luck!

Thank you so much Rudy for the detailed information! God bless you!
Glad it was helpful!
Amazing camera and thank you for this interesting review. Have a great week!
Thanks, you too!
Good information for helping me with a decision. Now I know I definitely need a "photo" focused camera instead of video because I rarely shoot video!
Been shooting with my a7rIII for the last 4 years for photography. I'm not much of a video shooter. This camera is Still a BEAST of the trade and I still use it as my primary go to camera.
That's awesome to hear. It's still our go to stills camera and see no need to upgrade it anytime soon.

Great camera indeed, very good review my friend.

Can't say we have ever had that problem. We usually touch to focus in those kinds of situations.
Great review and beatutiful photos 🥰 Sony's a73 range really is one of the most budget friendly ones considering what they offer
Thank you :)

Where are you finding these models? Asking for a friend 😄
fantastic images indeed!
we wish our FUJI X-T20 survived well the time...not so good for our travel videos...:(
Thank you!
So right now you have a a7iii, siii and riii? And do you use all of them??
Yep, we mostly use the siii for video and riii for stills with the a7iii being our backup/2nd hybrid camera.
Out of curiosity how big is a single raw photo file?
About 50mb for a compressed RAW file, even more for uncompressed!
80ish mb for uncompressed
don't forget about the A7C series!!!!!!
Is there a big difference between a7r3 and 4?
It's much newer, so it has a better LCD, viewfinder, improved AF and has 61 mp instead of 42.4. So it is a better camera for sure but at almost double the price.
Great review. I've always loved the R series but I am more hybrid myself so an A7IV would make more sense for my next purchase!
Good choice! It's great that we have the ability to really cherry pick our camera choice depending on individual needs!
It's a great camera for sure but it takes an even greater photographer to get shots like that!! 😍😍
Thank you :))
I've got an EOS R6 Mark ii. And I love it. But I would love double Megapixels for studio crops.
The r6 mii is awesome but yeah honestly being able to crop and not lose too much resolution is a real luxury.
2:06 those horse photos are simply gorgeous!
Thank you :)

I sort of agree in the sense that cameras from 5-6 years ago are still awesome and probably more than enough in terms of specs for a lot of people.
Is this still good in 2024, or do you have an other sugestion??
Still using ours for stills. If you're focused only on photography, it's still awesome and you can find it for really cheap used.
Nice video! Should mention that the larger megapixel count do result in more noise and slightly worse low light performance compared to the A7iii
Wrong. Noise is related to the size of the sensor not the pixel count.
Great to hear! The a7iv is definitely the better overall camera IMO and great for video too!
Of course its still a great camera .

Someone is selling one for $990, you think this is a steal? It has only 5200 shots. 👀
If the shot count is legit, 100% that's a great deal!
Honestly had no idea this camera was this cheap. Is the r ii much of a downgrade because that price point is damn affordable!
There are some good comparison videos, honestly the r3 isn't a HUGE upgrade over the r2 so it's worth looking into if you want to upgrade.
