You can also eliminate the need to dash forward by starting by flicking the c stick in the opposite direction, then holding the other direction and jumping at the same time. Full input is this: flick c stick (opposite direction), jump and hold forward at the same time. The timing varies on certain moves, so it's important to lab it out with your characters, but it can be a very consistent way to perform an instant rar.

***Check out my followup video here: ruclips.net/video/TGiTd9zBmE4/видео.html ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I should note, the input sequence I used in the video is just one way of doing the Attack Cancel back air. This way results in an Instant Reverse Aerial (not a Reverse Aerial Rush). The default Attack Cancel Bair input would be "C-stick tilt backwards, jump, hold left stick forward". This results in canceling a forward tilt into a back air. Just for reference, I based this video off of the last section of My Smash Corner's Attack Cancel video he made years ago: ruclips.net/video/v1kjQtMaPkE/видео.html
This needs to be discussed and taught more imo. you see high level players just throw a bair whenever they want to and when (like me) you have no clue how to do this you are playing with a disadvantage if you want to improve. I have been 1 game off elite smash and never yet gotten elite so many time and if i were able to bair instead of fai maybe id have gotten so many kills i couldnt.
Thank God for Slingshot. I also need to mess with this after a grab because sometimes I land a grab right on edge as mk and d throw but I could never get that back air because I’m right on the edge.
Just FYI, you can also use the input sequence "C-stick backward, jump, hold left stick forward" to do this technique. I think that's the default input sequence actually, because you cancel a forward tilt to go into a back air. The input sequence I used is called an "Instant Reverse Aerial". It can be easy to get those confused because the inputs are so similar. Thanks for watching!
Bro the slingshot version is better. You can choose whether or not to throw out the aerial and you can full hop a slingshot. In other words, slingshot >> attack cancel
@@EJGamer100 but you need to dash first which is makes it take a bit longer so you can’t get certain follow ups oh and also my first point when I grab someone directly on the edge and I have no room to dash after the grab at all so this would be helpful
If anybody's use to the Bidou Tech that was setup in Smash Royal Rumble(A-K-A S-4), you can still do it that way as well for the same results: (While Facing Right)➡ ⬅,(Before the turn animation)Jump➕Smash➕➡. Which requires ya A & J buttons setup so that it can be pressed at the same time easily(X➕A or Y➕B for example).
AFAIK this tech is now obsolete with Slingshot in the game, which is more consistent, easier, and give more flexibility as you can also full hop for example
I recommend going into training mode and setting the game speed to 1/4x (or anything below 1x) and going from there. That should help make the timing easier to get
Running and dashing are the same, it's just that people say 'initial dash' and not 'initial run'. In this case, you have to do all the button inputs within a fraction of a second, so you barely run/dash forward at all
Actually, I should correct myself - there is a difference between dashing and running. The initial dash does have a "dash speed" that says how fast you go when you flick the left stick from a standstill and start dashing. Then, a character's "run speed" is the speed that they end up at when the player holds the stick forward and keeps running. So while both a dash and a run involve moving forward quickly, a dash is the first part of a run, while a running animation is the rest of it. In other words, it is appropriate to say 'dashing' forward in this tutorial. Hope that helps!
Yes, it's been a thing since Ultimate's release. Ultimate introduced a damage multiplier of 0.85x for all shorthop aerials in the game. It actually kind of counterbalances the 1.2x damage multiplier that's applied to all 1v1 matches in Ultimate. To be fair, I don't think Sakurai ever explicitly mentioned the shorthop damage multiplier himself, it was something that players discovered on their own. He did mention the universal damage increase in 1v1s though.
Yeah. Correct me if I’m wrong, but this fact is in the Tips section in this game and can come up on the loading screen. I was first introduced to this fact by wondering why Peach float’s damage output is so insane
Just to let you know, this is not an attack cancel. This is a c stick irar. It’s just doing a buffered aerial irar. Attack cancels can only be standing still or from dash attack. The main difference is that an attack cancel will stop all your momentum while an irar preserves it.
I've done some thinking on this, and I don't think IRAR is quite the right term to use either. What I went over in the video is just an instant reverse aerial that is done using a very similar input sequence to attack cancels. From my understanding, an IRAR allows you to do a shorthop or a fullhop, while attack cancel bair or instant reverse aerial (not a rush) only allow shorthops. So I guess neither of us are completely right? Thanks for bringing it to my attention though, I'll make a pinned comment that talks about this
youre also technically correct on that. Its called an IRA but most people refer to it as a c-stick irar or a buffered irar. it is an irar in essence but with some restrictions on it.
Yes, you need to get the timing down exactly. Press each button I mentioned one after the other, not at the same time. It's also important you do the button presses fast enough to get the intended result
It might be - I recommend going into training mode and setting the speed to 1/4x or anything slower than 1x to get a better grip on the timing. Then, once you're comfortable with it, go back to 1x speed and try again. The timing can be strict
I'd say it's still pretty easy. You already jump with the shoulder button with the controller setup I listed, and you hold the left stick horizontally the whole time anyway. Testing with tap jump on didn't seem to make it any harder to do.
No, I would not say that they're exactly the same. I based this video off of the Attack Cancel video from My Smash Corner that was made just a couple weeks after the game came out: ruclips.net/video/v1kjQtMaPkE/видео.html
