    I drove the '23 Ranger and Maverick and ended up putting in an order for a Maverick. I got the small truck I wanted with more features for way less money, a Ranger with a couple options quickly approaches $50,000 up here in Canada while I got a nicely optioned XLT Maverick for $40,000.
    If I need to tow or haul more than the Maverick can, well, a $20/day u-haul rental is 15 minutes down the road.

    The Maverick offers a low price. Ample room for hauling passengers. Ample bed and suspension required for hauling what most owners will use it for. Optional AWD and two engine choices giving the buyer a solid 2.0 EcoBoost or a gas saving Hybrid. Attractive and from personal experience comfortable interior. A real pick-up truck look unlike the new Hyundai Santa Cruz. The Ranger is a solid pick up, but considering the aforementioned items I listed. Imo.The Maverick is the best choice and a home run from Ford. Thanks for the great review and comparison. Even with delivery being months away. I will take a look at building and ordering an Awd Lariat Chili pepper red or velocity blue. Your information is greatly appreciated

      I saw a Santa Cruz last week. I was surprised at how small the bed is--doesn't really compare to the Maverick at all (saw one three weeks ago, and talked to the owner). The Hyundai's bed is more like a large cooler, whereas the Maverick's is actually usable as a truck bed. I wouldn't put the Santa Cruz and Maverick in the same class--they're really 2 very different things.

    • @JonBecker81
      @JonBecker81 2 года назад +4

      It all depends on what you use it for as far as “best choice” goes. The maverick is nice but I tow a 22 ft travel trailer and go off roading in my ranger so a maverick is just out of the question. Plus ford performance level 2 on my ranger and it’s a beast.

    • @DWH300
      @DWH300 2 года назад +7

      @@JonBecker81 i agree the Ranger has more performance and handles towing and off roading better than a Maverick, but so can the F150 compared to the Ranger. Three different trucks that have different capabilities. For my second vehicle used for basic towing and hauling, that has fantastic fuel mileage, carries up to 5 people, and has s very competitive price. The Maverick works for myself and many other customers considering the sales numbers. If I needed to tow larger items and required a larger bed. I would have selected a Ranger or even an F150. Ford has given the customer 3 great choices of pickup trucks. So there's no bad choices. Just pick the one that fits your needs.

    Great video! I once owned a 2000 Ford Ranger XLT, other than being gutless uphill, I liked it. The new Rangers have greatly improved the power to climb. Impressive. As far as the 2022 Maverick vs Ranger, we went w/the Maverick XL SuperCab AWD. My husband & adult son is 6'-4-1/2" & the Mavericks leg & head room sealed the deal. The Ranger won't work for us. We ordered Maverick truck & just received it days ago, 3 months to the day. Never had a chance to test drive one before ordering. Wow! Maverick is surprisingly powerful & smooth to drive. Much easier than my prev. vehicle to pick up speed quickly to get onto a short frwy on-ramp. We like the interior & it's layout as well as the look of our carbonized Gray exterior. The AWD already came in handy as Reno, NV just got some April snow. Price is much more affordable than the Ranger too. We don't own a travel trailer & don't have the need to haul massive items anymore. The Maverick will still allow us to haul a stack of 4' x 8' sheets if we need to. Gardening supplies, a chest of drawers & Costco trip hauls will be mostly what we will haul.

    They serve 2 different markets. You can nit-pick all of the reasons why "bigger is better" with the Ranger over the Maverick. You can do the same with the F-150 over the Ranger. BUT, I can get a Maverick for about $10k less than a comparable trim Ranger, I can easily park the Maverick in my 20x20 garage, I can get 40+ mph commuting with the hybrid, and I can still fit sheet goods in the bed for my HD runs and tow a small boat.

    @boredcryptek5513 2 года назад +8

    What people need to remember with the Maverick is that it is half truck, half suv. That is not a bad thing if that is what you need. Going to hold up better in the city and it gives you some bed space for if you need to carry some stuff from Home Depot for home projects, or pickup some furniture or something. Hence why some more seating space, and more cubbies and stuff. It can do a fair bit but the question is do you really need a truck? You want a truck but you occasionally run some errands in the city you want a Ranger. It is smaller than an F-150 so you will see some advantage parking it around, and it should see some better fuel economy than the F-150 but slightly worse than the Maverick. It can haul more and off-road better and etc. And obviously if you really need a truck for heavy truck stuff go look at the F-series. That's what it boils down to. How much of a truck do you need, little bit of truck, mostly a truck, or a full on truck?

      My 2 l turbo produces much more hp than a 5 L Six, likely more torque too. Definately lighter, and better fuel economy.

      Not sure of reliability of a turbo, what are you living in the 80s? Turbos have been in cars for 20+ years and just as reliable as a NA engine.

    • @1216shadow
      @1216shadow 2 года назад +4

      I used to work in a security company and we had a bunch of ecoboost fusions as fleet vehicles.
      They made it to 350k miles under the heavy abuse that security guards dish out to fleet vehicles.
      And that's saying allot.
      The typical abuse a security guard will impart on a car they don't personally own are as follows.
      Idling lots of it. So much so that about 40% of the time the engine is running it's spent at an idle.(Which is very bad for any car.)
      Allot of guards have what's called a mobile patrol, where they drive to multiple work sites literally to just check the doors.
      Said mobile patrol guards tend to suffer from lead foot disorder, and drive fast and hard in an effort to finish early and go home.
      And not a single guard I've met has ever taken the vehicle in for service, when the oil change light turns on.
      So these engines survived 350k miles per car, of security guards treating them like rental cars.
      And then my company switched to leasing chevy equinoxes, and those things were awful.
      Had one that broke down every 2k miles on the dot.
      Had another that would stutter.
      And one kept having the battery die because for some reason, the alternator doesn't charge the battery unless the engine is at 2k rpms or higher.
      To top it off in spite of having all wheel drive the equinoxes handled so poorly in the rain, that it felt like driving a mustang through black ice.

    on paper and on video, the Maverick wins all around. In person however, it's such a drastic difference you almost wonder how it is possible. The Maverick is basically a car with a bed. Ieft up to all senses other than sight, the Maverick feels like a Car. or even a small suv. For me, a truck is at minimum an AWD vehicle. when you calculate the difference in the city, which is where 90% of our driving is done anyway, your only saving 3mpg with the Maverick AWD... but you're sacrificing a lot in terms of 'truck'. I ended up going Ranger Tremor, and believed I was making a mistake but now, I'm so glad I went Ranger. I think if you have no need for a truck, and are thinking of buying a small sedan, give the Maverick a try, having a bed is very useful regardless and it's pretty comfortable on the inside.

    We’re waiting for the Toyota Stout AWD Hybrid to come out.
    With that said, we’ll still keep driving our 11 Ranger XLT super cab 4X4 with the 4.0L V6, (this is our 4th Ranger).
    We bought it in 19 with only 20K miles and currently it has only 35K miles.
    We HATE silver, gray and black, but we got such an awesome deal on our Silver Ranger that we bought it.
    I had it 2 toned in Silver over Red metallic. The interior was the fugly depressing gray and death black (that became popular in 1990), so I had it reupholstered in Red with black trim.
    The LSD & tow pkg are great.
    I added custom wheels, running boards, LineX spray in bed liner, skid plates, custom pinstripes, rear air shocks, (we haul a lot of topsoil, gravel and firewood).
    Before adding a K&N intake and a 3” FlowMaster exhaust system I was getting 19mpg with the cruise set on 75mph and now I’m getting 23mpg.
    We mainly use our Ranger for work around our property.
    To replace our 11 Ranger with all the modifications that I’ve had done, I’d have to pay $60K for a new Ranger.
    Years ago my wife was driving our 88 Ranger XLT 4X4, 2.3L 4cyl, 5spd and hit a patch of ice, flipping it in a ditch. It had 170K miles and our insurance totaled it. We found another totaled Ranger and were able to fix the dented roof and replaced the windshield. You could tell that it had flipped, but we kept driving it. We drove it until it had just shy of 350K miles when the electrical system fried.
    We drove our 83 Ranger 2.3L 4X4 until it died at 400K miles.
    Our 90 Ranger XLT super cab 4X4 had the 3.0L V6, automatic transmission until it had only 80K miles. It started burning a LOT of oil, so we sold it. That 3.0L wasn’t a very good engine for Ford. It got only 18mpg.
    But we absolutely Love our 11 Ranger.
    At our age, we will drive it until we can no longer drive or we die.
    The new Maverick has had a LOT of recalls for airbags, seatbelts, fuel tank leaks, brake failures, etc.
    The new Ranger’s with the 2.3L turbo engine’s are having issues.
    For the life of me, I can’t figure out why Ford stopped building reliable vehicles.
    Both our 82 and 96 F150s with the 4.9L (300 in-line 6cyl engines were bulletproof like the old 2.3L 4cyl.
    They were so very durable and reliable.
    Now Toyota’s are the most reliable and durable vehicle brand in the world.
    This is why we’re waiting for the Stout AWD Hybrid.
    We’ve always driven either Toyota or Ford, except for our last two vehicles which are Subaru.
    Though we Love the AWD traction from our Subie’s, Toyota still builds a better vehicle. This is why I’ll sell my Forester when the Stout hits America.

    A big difference for me is the fact that the Ranger is rear-wheel biased whereas the Maverick is front-wheel biased. For towing anything reasonably heavy it is much better to have RWD... The load is on the rear where you have the greatest traction, especially when starting from a stop. I also prefer the engine and transmission being mounted longitudinally as opposed to transversely.
    Another thing worth noting is that just because the Maverick is rated to tow 4, 000-pounds with the tow package, doesn't mean that you'd want to be towing 4000 lb on the regular.
    All that being said, it is clear that the Maverick works for a lot of people that don't really need a truck for towing often.

    I followed a Ranger Raptor down Appleby line in Burlington last week. It was black and looked really sharp. It sat higher and had a nice wheel and tire combo on it. Don't know how that guy got one. My boss has a Ranger Lariat and it's pretty nice for a smaller truck. A guy I work with has a Maverick on order. Not in the same league as my 19' Rebel though, unless mileage is your #1 priority.

    I like the Maverick but will probably be picking up a Ranger for the much better off-road capabilities that it offers with a low range and transfer case. If I didn't need that I would definitely go with a Maverick.

    I wish they would add an NA V6 like the 3.3 v6 from the f150 or maybe even the 2.7 from the f150. To me it makes sense having the 2.7 in the ranger instead of the f150 cause the 2.7 is a really small engine for the f150. I would buy a ranger if they had the 3.3 v6 just cause I trust a NA engine for a daily then a turbo engine just for more simplicity.

    The lower seating position of the Maverick is really off putting. It's basically no higher of a driving position than any other small crossovers you see on the road. I like sitting a little higher up, makes me less claustrophobic with a better vantage point in traffic. Especially now that 90% of people are driving crossovers/suvs/pickups these days.

    I have a Ranger and I love it. 6'1" son fits fine in the back. Lots of power handles well. The only problem so far is someone stole it and took an off-road adventure and damaged my brakes. They shake sometimes and that did not start until after I found my truck. I have 42k miles average 23. miles to the gallon. It has been to shop for a vibrating noise and rear seat letting up somehow the hinge broke. The only other kick back is I cut grass for my mil and sil, when pulling my mower on the trailer my gas millage drops about 3 miles per gallon. And never ever buy black lol

    When I was looking into buying a truck (my first ever truck) I looked at the Ranger and didn't like it. I felt that the interior was too cramped and the material quality was considerably behind the competition.
    Some backstory, I had a minivan for 10 years and I was using it to haul stuff, so I took the back seat out, and basically had a cargo van. I decided it was time to get a new vehicle and decided that I wanted a truck.
    I looked at the Tacoma and the Ranger, but the interior size was a big downgrade from the minivan. I mean obviously lenght wise, but those trucks are bigger than a minivan physically, and have much more cramped interiors.
    That is why I ended up with a Ram 1500. The interior size is huge. The only downside is that it is now too much truck for what I haul. Still, I love it to death.
    Edit: I think that if I were to do that comparison today, and have the Maverick option, that might be a strong contender, just due to the fact of the hybrid powertrain and the low price. I couldn't justify buying a cramped interior when the jump to a Ram 1500 was a relatively small one, but it gets challenging between a Maverick and a Ram 1500.

    • @firefoxmoz

      I think that's the issue when comparing the ranger or any other mid-size trucks to full size options. They're not a huge jump in price and they get similar mpg but you get way more out of a full size so usually it makes more sense to go with one of those. The maverick is an interesting choice because it's not really a truck but it could be the perfect option for someone who doesn't really need a truck but does want some of the benefits of owning a truck.
