    I just passed mine today at the first attempt. I was SO nervous before but here are a few things that helped me. I was a bit wobbly at slow speed due to nerves and being on an unfamiliar big bike (I was restricted to a 125 of course). To stop the wobbling at junctions etc, I squeezed my knees into the tank. It's amazing how that helps you balance. I also rode with purpose and confidence on the test. If you go from a 30mph zone to a 40mph zone, get up to speed as quickly as you can. The instructors don't like dawdlers. Don't exceed the speed limit of course but just get up to speed briskly. It shows the instructor you are confident. Remember to cancel your indicators, always stop at a stop sign and remember to do your life savers. The ride lasted 40 minutes but it didn't seem anything like that. Oh and remember to keep doing your lifesavers as you ride into the test centre at the end of the test. You haven't finished until you switch the bike off and dismount. Good luck!

      Adding to having good balance - remember high revs always helps a lot! (as well as a light bike of course..)

      Holding the rear break helps being more stable when moving slowly. Like when doing the figure of 8 gently on the rear while doing it will keep you alot more stable.

      @@budman8926 Yup. We covered that on the pass plus thing. Only costed £15 for like 6 hours of training. We did a good amount of balance related things in a car park such as standing on one side of the bike, picking up a bottle and putting it on a thin pole, etc. Was just as enjoyable as the CBT.

    Just passed my module 2 today; first attempt. I was pretty nervous. I realized I had made a few mistakes during, which at the time got me quite worried, however I tried to put it behind me and continue focusing on the test, although I thought I wouldn't pass. When I got back turned out I only picked up 3 minors. Had I let myself continue worrying and loose focus after these mistakes as a result I'd have been more likely to not pass. Moral here is if thing's don't go as planned, push it out of your head and try to move on focusing on the test at hand. At the end of the day they're not trying to fail you, they just wan't to see you can ride on the roads safely and with a certain level of self confidence: I know I missed a few head checks and other things as well during the test but they didn't give me anything for them as, I guess, they know all riders make some mistakes.. and at the end of the day if you can show you're a safe rider generally they'll wan't to pass you. Just try as much as possible to roll with it and focus on the task at hand (either following the instructors single instructions or following signs). Watch these videos the night before the test as well as I really think this helped solidify my training over night, both with my module 1 and module 2. Good luck my dudes, you can do it!

      Also on the note on spending a lot of money on something you don't really want to, please invest in a decent chain - such as Almax or Pragmasis for security first before even bothering with a tracker, really can't recommend them enough (might help to lower your premium too) so your insurance doesn't go through the roof when you come to find your bike has been stolen

      I'm presuming you've seen the Mod 1 video! (the first part of the test)
      Based on the few vids I've seen of the test in the US that's for sure haha, not even comparable.
      I'd say that the general standard of riding from bikers here shows that, even when it's usually twice the speed limit lol.
      I really wish they'd change the filtering (lane splitting) law there to more states for your sake, it's only CA and a few others that are allowed right? That's like one of the main perks of having a bike.

    • @fancypelusa2863
      @fancypelusa2863 5 лет назад +12

      @@C9S1 I'm in Wisconsin which has no lane splitting but I ride mostly for leisure and rurally where traffic isn't an issue. I toured Spain in 2015 and it would freak me out at traffic lights when other bikes would suddenly ride up right next to me to wait out the signal. I rode a bike in London in the seventies for a couple of years and actually grew up in Ireland. Back then half the country was riding on a "provisional" license and things were pretty lax. London was awesome and I loved living in England. Take care and stay safe - Cheers!

      @timchambers55 3 года назад +3

      @@daboiah189 hey bud! So the only time I rode a 125cc was the first couple of hours of my CBT which was back in May! My riding school has people on 650cc Kawasakis from that point onwards.
      I remember that the 650cc bike seemed significantly heavier when I first jumped on it, and the extra horsepower will be a huge difference! If you have any way to get at least one lesson using a bigger bike before your test, it would be a big benefit! I passed my test in Ireland two days ago. We do it slightly different over here although most of the elements are the same. We just to the U-turn and slow ride and other manoeuvres out on the road. U-turn and slow ride typically being done in a quiet housing estate. In my opinion while waiting in traffic or at lights it is always best to keep the bike in first gear and clutch in. You always want to be ready to move straight away if you need to instead of fumbling around changing feet to get the bike into first which would also mean taking your foot off the rear brake which imo I wouldn't do in traffic either.

    - Near the end, two sections of audio become slightly desynced - but all the information is still relevant and it comes a bit earlier than shown on the video.
    - Correction: 1) Mod 1 was in Enfield, Mod 2 was in Uxbridge 2)17:05 was not actually undertaking as I was on a different road / carriageway
    - Thanks to everyone letting me know how this has helped them pass, I had no idea it would help this many people out!
    - To those thinking about getting their licence, in training, or have failed before - there is very useful advice in the comments, and if you have any questions drop a new one

      ss ss Hiya. So I've been riding on a Sym 125 Gts Evo for just over a year now. For the test you have to ride on a bike over 395cc. Will they provide an automatic over 395cc because I've only ever ridden an automatic?

    • @C9S1
      @C9S1  7 лет назад +2

      Hey. Not sure what you mean by they - test centres don't provide bikes! You either bring your own / or your instructor's one - which can be auto. If you do it on an automatic it only entitles you to ride an automatic though. Hope this helps.

    It's perfectly legal to pass another vehicle on their left as long as you aren't breaking the speed limit, FYI. Of course, you can't pass on the left and immediately move in front - this is when it becomes an "undertake".

    • @maverick4220
      @maverick4220 5 лет назад

      Hmm i'd have to look that up as i don't think that is correct, I think it's still classed as an illegal undertake no matter if your speeding or not doing it.

      ss ss I actually passed my A1 without any lessons by watching videos just like yours. So I know it helps a lot. I did my A1 as all I want to ride is my Vespa Primavera, I do regret not doing my test in the 80s where you passed if you came around the block not having fallen off. Not that the examiner actually went round with you. Now it's gone the other way, needlessly expensive to get an A licence. In the 80 we all rode 250s on L plates for ever, no CBT.

    Hey mate, had my test at Uxbridge last Friday and passed first time. This video has been extremely helpful and actually ended up doing the same route! Time 12.25. The examiner was extremely professional and friendly made me feel at easy straight away. Tbh it does help if you are familiar with the area especially if you try the routes few days before your test. A part from thi route there are other too which are shown on videos on RUclips. I've come to Uxbridge twice for few hrs each to drive around the routes to familiarise with it. With that done I was very relaxed on the test day. Best of luck to you all.

    Thanks for the video! I actually had the exact same test route yesterday and passed with 2 minors so THIS TEST ROUTE IS STILL BEING USED. One of the minors was on that triple carriageway linked to the motorway since a lorry in the middle lane changed to the left lane when I was merging from the sliproad (examiner said it was not my fault but could have been a major...) so it definitely depends on the luck of the day! Otherwise the drive went really well :)

    Had 2 minors in Uxbridge on mod 1 for low speeds and one ‘big minor’ just yesterday in Tolworth on mod 2. I got really lucky he didn’t call it a major, thought I failed on the spot due to keeping indicating on the road with the test centre already. He said it was a great ride until then so he kept it as minor as no other vehicle was there.

    Here Are some helpful tips for mod 2. some apply if your using your own bike
    1. avoid erith test centre at all costs not only is it next to a few big roundabouts but also the examiners like to play catch you out. the short big guy will take you down a 1 way that turns into a 2 way and tell you to turn right at the end if you haven't noticed the sign saying its changed you will miss it he fails people a lot for this.
    2. borrow a up to date satnav and mount it on the bike or use a decent phone app be careful of rain though. plot any route on it and press go. a satnav when routing will tell you the speed your meant to be going and the speed your doing.
    3. if you forget your indicators a lot and are using your own bike wire in beepers on the indicators by removing the pins on the plug and taping the beeper wires on you can yank/cut them out later
    4. try to book a test centre near a busy main road for a weekday school run time. sit in the traffic and do not filter.
    5. treat the examiner as a sat nav if you make a wrong turn dont worry if you get to a huge roundabout and he says take the 5th exit feel free to take the first and turn left.
    After passing tips.
    DO NOT GO ON A GROUP RIDE STRAIGHT AWAY.
    The temptation is to jump on the bike and go on a ride out with your mates. Your mates know their bikes and will probably know the route they are taking. Riding in groups can often lead to riding fast and racing each other. what will happen is they will take a sharp corner they know well fast and you will go in too hot panic grab brake or hit the kerb
    Right of way means nothing.
    cars vs bikes ends one way. Bikes are most fun when accelerating so if your on a empty road and a car is waiting to pull out expect him to be a idiot and do so. Slow down a bit and hover brakes then once you pass feel free to rip it. expect everyone is a moron and is trying to kill you
    Dont filter blind or fast.
    Filtering blind is filtering at speed when passing a big vehicle like a van lorry bus etc. you can see over the top of most cars and see some moron person about to step out between cars you cannot see over or through vans or lorries. Filtering fast is in general really stupid. minus the pedestrians you will get cars pulling out from a side road, people opening car doors and people in traffic that suddenly want to u-turn.
    Bulbs
    bulbs are your friend do not be cheap go for osram night breakers or lazer or go for phillip extreme vision plus 130.

      @@C9S1 thanks for your reply bro. A bit of background- I’m 29- my families heritage/ethnicity is British Pakistani. When I was 14 I went to Pakistan for 2 months and I learnt to ride bikes then. I rode a geared 125 Honda CBR everyday for just under 2 months and fell in love with bikes and cars. I got my drivers license at 19 in Uk but never forgot how to ride a bike, in my opinion changing gears on a bike and a car is exactly the same but different controls/levers and pedals. Summer 2020 I ended up having extra time like most people so I decided to get my full bike license- July 2020 I did my cbt which was a walk in the park. End of Aug I had my 3 day DAS (2days training 3rd day MOD1 & MOD2) and passed both first time (40 miles from my home town) my instructor didn’t like me at all and we kind of fell out on day 2. I was sure I would fail as he took all my confidence away and told me I’m not going to make it. Night of Day 2 I watched your videos- took notes and on the day applied everything I learnt and passed Mod1 with zero minors and Mod2 with 4 minors! So to anyone reading this I’d highly recommend your videos! Thanks once again!!

      I made them for this purpose: Tbh I thought the A1 / A2 tests were just a load of bs and a money making scam (still do) as so little of it reflects on every day riding, and the margin of error of failing in certain things is unnecessary. @@C9S1 you’re absolutely right man. A1 and A2 in my opinion is just 65 minutes of riding how someone expects you to. Let be honest you’re always going to do a U turn and put your feet down. Also in my advantage the Mod1 grid for manoeuvres in the actual test was much wider than what I learnt on so was a piece of cake imo. When I learnt my Mod1 avoidance exercise/hazard avoidance it was torrential rain and my instructor only let me go to 20 max so the first time I hit the 32mph/50kmh was actually on the day!! @eduardogoncalves4159 5 лет назад +6

    I passed my test yesterday, the one thing I can without questioning that stuck in my mind from this video was to constantly check my mirrors, I had a good instructor who on the way there kept saying in the radio, "Think Ahead, Look ahead, Plan Ahead" which really helped too, I have been riding for almost 3 years before taking my A Category test so riding on the road wasn't a problem,
    The DVLA examiner who was following me kept tutting and sighing which made me honestly think that I had already done too much screw ups, also there was one point where he told me I had been riding almost 1 mile doing 20 on a 30 so at this point I honestly thought I had failed also because 30 mins goes really quickly when you got someone just suggesting you where to go rather than the training Instructors pointing out mistakes and telling you where to go, so I thought when we got back he had enough or that I failed so it was cut short but time goes really quick.
    Turns out his tutting and sighing was because of his annoyance of how I was acting stationary or preparing to stop but I wasn't doing anything incorrect just the habits I had done e.g putting my right foot on the floor rather than my left when I was stationary or using my rear brake longer than I had too, I haven't ridden a automatic for almost 2 years and I still have habits which the DVLA pointed out from my automatic days.
    My suggestion to anyone is if you can depending on your age go for the full license on a manual if you are old enough and if you haven't ridden before. Last thing was the 20 in 30 road, I generally was looking all over for signs because I had a feeling I was in a 30 but because the roads I took the test on kept switching from 20 to 30 I wasn't sure, turns out as the Examiner said at least 2 times there was a parked van covering the signs and at one time for almost half a mile I was behind a learner driver doing way below the speed limit so probably a 20 so I couldn't go faster myself as it was a single road.
    I should also add that keeping an eye in your mirror to what the DVLA (if is a bike) actually helped me because when he got close to me I knew I was going a little slow so I sped up. They do give unofficial unintentional hints e.g signalling before a turn or when it is correct and speeding or slowing down. I'm not sure if I had any minors because he said my position and riding were great just reading signs was a below expected but as I said or he said my views of the signs where blocked so I think he let this slide. Anyways doesn't matter in the end, I passed first time.
    My advice is ultimately to relax and remember to keep your distance from big trucks or buses and position yourself in the default left and don't forget your shoulder checks and mostly IMPORTANTLY that there is literally no time limit let other vehicles go before you. There is literally no need to rush. Good luck to anyone doing their Mod 2, I found Mod 2 to be a lot more easier than Mod 1 because you don't have someone with a clipboard following you around all serious lol, I had no nerves at all in my Mod 2... definitively couldn't say the same about Mod 1!

    • @C9S1
      @C9S1  5 лет назад +3

      Congratulations, well deserved! That's some novel you got there, should get it published lol.
      Great bits of advice though, most they can do in a single section if you're going too slow BUT is not too dangerous is a minor (per section of road) or speed limit change I'd imagine. So get a major for totting up too many in the same category would be quite difficult as you found it, even if you made it a couple of times. As we always say, better to hesitate or play it safe than get a major.
      Have fun and safe riding!

      Optic500, it is not 'very unsafe' to have poor microphone/headphones or poor reception. Instructor tells you to turn left at next junction, or take the 3rd exit etc, but, nobody has failed because they took the wrong turn, or couldn't hear the instructor properly. Instructors care about one thing and one thing only, can YOU ride safely on public roads and within the law. Everybody takes wrong turns, everybody, including the instructor, and I am pretty sure the instructor won't revoke his own license because he took the wrong turn, and he won't revoke your's either.
      If you pulled over in a safe place, turned off the bike and got off it (without being told to do so) to explain that you can not hear the instructor clearly, you won't fail. Why? because you did it safely.

You can tell by the overhead signs and the lane markings.
      - Again you're wrong about those particular speed limits. Most road works do have enforceable limits (speed is in a red circle) but some do not as shown in the video and limits such as 'max speed' around bends. They're 'advisory' and have no legal grounds as they're usually placed by contractors. Change in limits require stringent legal processes through highways / transport, local authorities, and DfT

    awsome video, very informative ! I live in belgium and i failed my MOD 2. Really a bummer because he failed me on driving 50 where i was supposed to drive 70. that was my one and only mistake. anyway i got my temporary "L" and have 1 year to redo it. I did not know the area of the test centre and thats why i was confused about the speed zone where i sacked. So it really helps if you do know the area where you are going to do your exam. still bummed to this day (failed 2 weeks ago). Now i got my bike and i'm gonna ride alot in the exam area so i wont be surprised again. Wish me luck !!

    Got my test tomorrow, just a couple of questions if I may! My instructor said that you shouldn't indicate when overtaking a bus IF you can get passed without switching lanes, is this correct? Also, he said I will get asked to "filter if it's safe to do so" - he told me NOT to filter, and if the examiner asks, just say I didn't think it was safe. Is this normal..?

    • @C9S1
      @C9S1  7 лет назад +3

      Sorry just saw this, think I'm too late but hope your test went well today!
      1. You shouldn't really be in that situation because a. the examiner could fail you on it for being dangerous b. ideally you want to switch lanes anyway to make sure there is a good amount of space if the bus was to swerve out which I'd recommend anyway (and if you can't do that just stay back) but yes technically yes you don't need to if you're staying in the same lane,
      2. I've never heard that one before, and would be surprised if an examiner ever says that! In any situation regardless, NEVER FILTER IN YOUR TEST. There's just too many chances of things going wrong (and getting a major/failing). If you decide not to filter if the examiner explicitly says it, most you would get is a minor/s under the 'progress' category I'd imagine.

    • @youngsandwich
      @youngsandwich 7 лет назад +22

      Don't know if you're doing it on your own bike or with a riding school, but ask them if they have a bike with ABS - even if the ABS engages, you don't get a fault. You can squeeze the brakes as hard as you like and not have to worry about the wheels locking.

    • @youngsandwich
      @youngsandwich 7 лет назад +6

      Just take it easy, it's really not as scary as it sounds and the time will fly by. Just remember to OSMPSL every time you start/stop.
      If turning into a new road, check for speed signs. If going down a one way street and turning right, remember to position your self all the way to the right - don't stay in the center.
      Life savers are normally done to the same direction you turn (turn left into a road, then life saver left), EXCEPT when exiting roundabouts. Life savers are opposite BEFORE 12 o'clock e.g you are at 6, you should be as close to the left of the road (about an arm length) and turning off at the first exit (9) do a life saver to the RIGHT. Same for exiting at 12, stay as far to the left as you can, then life saver RIGHT. If exiting at 3 or 6, you need to life saver to the LEFT - reason for this is you're meant to position yourself to the right of the round about if you're exiting after 12 o'clock and will therefore have to cross a lane on your left to get to the exit.
      It will help a lot if you ride out to the test center and follow people doing their tests so you can learn the roads - just look for any biker in high vis with L plates being followed by a bike or a car.
      Don't get too worried about the independent riding, it's only 10 minutes and I only had to follow 2 signs and only had to make 1 turn.
      The show me/tell me questions are easy, you don't have to remember every single point for each question, as long as you know a couple of them you should be fine.
      I was riding a Honda CB650F. I spent maybe 2 days on it before my test and it wasn't until test day that I figured out keeping it in a higher gear would mean the throttle was a lot more stable and not as twitchy.
      You might get asked to filter "if it's safe to do so" - don't filter. Just tell them you didn't feel safe, they can't say otherwise. Do not undertake fast moving traffic.
      Keep 2 seconds away from the vehicle in front (4 if raining). If it's a bus or a van, position your self to the right of it so you can see the drivers mirror.
      If you can do all of the above, you'll pass your test without a problem. And don't be nervous, you can always take it again. Everyone has different obstacles on test day. Some people pass because they get stuck in slow moving traffic for 20 minutes, others fail because some idiot pedestrian decided to throw them self into the road.

    • @youngsandwich
      @youngsandwich 7 лет назад +3

      Oh and remember to use bus lanes when possible, but plan ahead. If there's a bus in the bus lane and it makes sense to stay where you are, then don't enter the bus lane.

    Agree or disagree. But as far as I'm concerned, bike tests these days are just a money-making scam. When I was younger, you took your test on the road with one guy standing and watching you. and it must have taken half an hour. All this crap now is just to con people out of a lot of money, and I don't like being conned. I haven't passed my test, but I was riding a 250-cc for years and never had any accidents. It may be important if you intend to ride a high-powered bike but not a 250-cc There is nothing they could teach me that would make me ride any better. I only wish I had taken my test before they brought all this bullsh*t in.

    125cc bikes with 100kg rider don’t accelerate up hill to 50kph. (Confused me by metric) 2nd attempt at getting to speed and missed the gear by going full throttle.

    just watched this out of curiosity as I've been riding for years, but just to say anyone asking about gears at lights or when stopped, the test seems to think that having your right foot covering the back brake when stopped is the safest but in the real world you will find you will probably want to find neutral to give your clutch hand a rest, and put your right foot down (i can't think of any occasion which would require me to use my back brake from a standstill position, unless your on some really steep hill} also you know your going to be in first when you pull away if you have to physically do it. there will be times when you can just hold the clutch in and keep it in first but you will want that left foot on the peg ready for the change as you pull away, to be honest, you don't use the back brake much anyway .also mention preloading rear shocks when taking pillions too if your bike has twin shocks, good video though, good luck anyone doing their test soon
