finally stops at macOS Catalina after ended and still running with current macOS on my MacBook Mid 2010 as its final upgrades.
I have a late 2013 version so I wasn't able to download but this is still a very good video, thank you for this information.

I upgraded my original HD (128 GB) to one much larger (ADATA 1TB) on my early 2015 Pro Retina. This Monterey download took me through all the steps a number of times (sometimes almost an hour) before it stated there is a HD compatibility error and wouldn't work. To solve I had to reinsert my original factory HD (so glad I kept it "just in case") to remind Apple that the product is the real deal. I downloaded Monterey onto that old drive successfully. I then removed the old drive, reinserted the newer larger one, and started again. This time it downloaded and installed properly without any compatibility issues. Apparently there is something on the factory HD that needs to be triggered to allow further upgrades to the OS on an off-brand HD.
The odd thing is that Apple Chat helpline seemed befuddled as if they have never heard of anyone updating to a larger HD. I find it absurd. *shrugs*

Just let the computer finish on its own .it takes hours to finish mine took 2 hours

I had this issue because I upgraded to a larger off-brand HD. I am guessing you have done the same. To solve it is pretty easy if you kept the original HD. I fully described the solve on another comment a few minutes ago on this video. Just look for the RichardCranium4335 comment.

I had an issue with downloading it through the software update utility, go to “munchy” RUclips channel and he has a video on how to download macOS manually. That’s what worked for me
