- Rik Mayall appears on Wogan to plug the Young Ones single featuring Cliff Richard for Comic Relief.
This takes place at the time Rik was filming the legendary and fabulous 'Mr Jolly Lives Next Door' with Adrian Edmonson.
I've edited out the video for the single. It must be on RUclips already.

Rik and Ade were/are the first comedians I could class as being from MY generation. Morecambe and Wise, the Python crew, et al were from my parents' generation. Of course there was the awkward time in the middle with the Tarbys and Davidsons of this world, but the Comic Strippers were the first I could genuinely call my own. I LOVE THEM!
Ades reaction after riks accident was appalling. Refusing to reignite their partnership because Rik was "no fun anymore". Reminded me of that Dullard character on extras who just wanted a laugh and ditched his mate who became blind because he, too, was "no fun anymore". Rik was always more mature than Adrian Edmondson who still seems to think he's a teenage punk

he seems to be quite shy and jokes are a way to get the attention away from the shyness. there are a couple of interviews where he is calmer and doesnt make as many jokes and they are the best interviews i think. plus he seems more comfortable in interviews in the more recent years.

Pity he played up to the audience in the interview at the beginning and the end. The one from 1984 was much better. Looks as though Terry cut this interview short because Rik morphed into ade at the end

im not knocking Rik, but from watching a handful of his interviews - he looks really really uncomfortable with the whole thing, like he is desperate to make as many jokes as he possibly can to escape an honest answer.
At least interviewers get some answers from Rik unlike ade who came across as an arrested adolescent taking swipes at the older generation. The 1984 interview was better as was the one with gloria hunniford. I think Rik was upset by Terrys comment that no-one will be watching his show because it was on channel 4. It was a dig at ch4 ratings rather than riks show. Thought rik took it a bit too personal
