The Young Ones was my childhood. Rik and Ade are immortals
exactly- it was the first thing on tv as kids that was really naughty and violent... we all quoted the phrases at school the next day
Dam right. Rik and Ade were like rock stars to me when I was a kid
I love Adrian. Comes across as such a lovely genuine (and genuinely funny) guy, but I always get a twinge of sadness that Rik is not here to enjoy their later years together. Richie and Eddie, still living in Hammersmith, in middling to old age would have been epic. RIP Rik ❤
Saw another interview with Aide, on Riks death....and he finished in character as Vyvyan - " YOU Selfish Bastard!!!" ....Lifelong friends
@@colinmackenzie6277 Yes, I saw that as well. Rik would have loved that...
Yes because he knows that his best friend Rik was murdered!
Same. I think i might watch an episode of him travelling around in a mini and a mini camper, later.
I saw Rik tell a story about falling through the ceiling on the bed: he suddenly got REALLY worried and said "Ade, we're going to die!" and he said that Ade looked at him and just said "Good!". Of course, it was much better when Rik told it.
A huge part of my younger years. Much respect Adrian and RIP Rik. Never forgotten 🙏
100%, I'm seeing ade in Birmingham tonight and I feel like I may shed a tear. I was a mess when rik passed. Hit me like a brick wall!
Not a frying pan?

Agree, very much (and I'm Swedish)
From The Young Ones, to Filthy Rich & Catflap, to Bottom, to Guesthouse Paradisio and the Bottom live shows, Adrian and Rik have brought me and countless others such laughter.
The dangerous brothers and comic strip presents aswell, they really are up there as being one of the best comedy duos in Britain

Bad News one and two!

heed these replies they hold treasures.
Adrian Edmondson is possibly the coolest name ever if you were 13 in 1984.
So true
You are correct
I was 13 in 84….magical
Surely Vyvian was cooler…very metal😂

I love Ade.. bottom was the best British comedy ever (with only fools and horses) RIP Rik May Mayall.
Rising Damp was great too, and Black Adder, Red Dwarf 😂 best comedies

Check out my reactions to Bottom on my RUclips channel! I’m going to be starting The Young Ones very soon too! I’ve completely fallen for Rik. I going to make such a good tribute video in June for him compiling all my favourite moments reacting to him!
Ade seems happier than I think I have ever seen him. Great to see.
Absolutely love how he’s now ready to talk about Rik. The book is brilliant btw.
I met Adrian in 1995 at a Glebe bookshop in Sydney. He is an absolute hero of mine and I will remember it fondly for the rest of my life. He was so understated and polite, so different from what I expected after watching him avidly on The Young Ones.
Freekin cool!
Being a German,I had the pleasure to watch „ the young ones „ on Dutch television. Living close to the Netherlands,we could watch their tv ,and bumped into this one.Hilarious,so absurdly funny and British. Loved it then, love it now. Adrian Edmondson was brilliant, and he still is. And a lovely guy it seems.
I hope you also got to see Rik in blackadder, it was epic ❤️❤️
I'm the other German who loves YOs, Bottom & everything around Rik & the rest of them. Didn't know anything about them until some years ago, now won't live without them!❤
It's true, I only know exactly 1 more German who knows about them. That's because they didn't do anything on German telly unlike the Pythons & Rowan Atkinson
And, funny enough, I grew up in the Netherlands living close to the German border, and that's where I learned basic German from a very early age 😎🇩🇪
So early in fact, that I firmly believed John Wayne to be a German - as I didn't realise those John Wayne / Spaghetti Westerns on (I think) WDR every Tuesday evening were overdubbed 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Whoever said TV can't be educational... 😜
Similar thing here, I was in Denmark and we always had German TV from the late '60s onward so growing up in the '70s and '80s I watched German TV all the time that's how I learned the language before classes in school. I wouldn't have known any of the movies or music I like if I hadn't watched German TV back then. Sadly today, it's a different world with a million TV channels so kids now they're not learning the language as well as we did hearing it daily.
I love that Jennifer used Eddie Monsoon, that's perfect 🥰
There’s surely no way that Adrian or any of his colleagues could ever have imagined that 41 years later, middle aged podgy blokes like me would be able to remember every single line of pretty much every single episode, and never get bored of it. So much so that we still force our 20 something offspring to watch along every Xmas, with me acting out as all the characters. Line by line. Over and over. Including Scottish hamsters.
Bambi being the classic example - I only have to catch a glimpse of a scene from that episode and the rest of the day I’m reciting (out loud) “crop rotation in the 14th century was CONSIDERABLY more widespread after….. John”. The Young Ones has resulted in more than a few people thinking that I am unhinged.
It might have been only 0.5% of your life Adrian, but it’s given me and my old school buddies a lifetime of wonderful memories and enjoyment. So much fun sticking The Young Ones up my parents’ noses. Even better, my stuffy sister hated it. Thank you.
Have you got a video?
Hahaha, thank you!! I laughed out loud at that line you mentioned! I can remember the enunciation perfectly!
That's a lovely way to put your love for them & their work in words!!❤
Niel, your bed's on fire!
Only 4 minutes, try saying that to Roger Banister …
Its heart warming to see Ade looking this animated looking his happiest since those days.. Comedy game changers.
The dangerous brothers.......D a n g e r! Pure brilliance!
We all love Ade. Comic strip was genius. Mr Jolly lives nextdoor was genius. Thankyou for putting smiles on our faces.
Take out Nicholas Parsons. So funny.

What a lovely chap. Sounds like he had a horrendous childhood. Such a lovely & funny man!
Adrian Edmondson and his work made my life better.
Graham Norton has to be the best talk show host going. His interviews are more chatting than interviewing and he lets the people talk without interrupting. Love Adrian Edmondson. He and Rik were a fantastic team.
All learm from Micheal Parkinson who pioneered the chit chat style interview
What a lovely, humble guy he is!
Should be Sir Adrian Edmonson .. he’s done more for the UK than most
No
If lenny can get one ohh wait
He's better than that

Ade is one of the last proper comedians and an all round top fella, he's lived a life and I'm thoroughly enjoying reading his book 👌
vanguards!! He's so humble!1
Edmondson is a true legend indeed, love this man.
In the early 2000s I worked as stage crew when ade and rick were at the theatre performing a live bottom show for two nights in a row ( maybe 3) ,I was lucky enough to meet ade and rick , rick spent quite a bit of time talking with the back stage crew and I can honestly say he's just as insane as the characters he played , he was ace to all of us , no ego whatsoever , he was like a crazy funny mate I'd known for years , I have fond memories of getting a few items from the shop for Rick , he was very very pleased that my colleagues and I managed to get him everything on his very particular shopping list , I always thought there was a reason Rick was so intense and fast , the way the sweat dropped off him even before he went full ball into his act is something I noticed , he 'marched' around like a force of nature .😁
Been a fan of his since Young Ones days . Never knew he was an Army Brat. Quite ironic given that Young Ones was absolutely compulsory viewing in our unit . We even had guys who fitted the four characters as unlikely as it may seemLoL !!
Once in every lifetime…
If you can find it, listen to the extended version of his recent appearance on Desert Island Discs. It's very moving, particularly when he talks about Rik.
In my teen years in the mid-80s (in Australia), a few guys at school were excitedly talking about this new British comedy show called, "The Young Ones." Back then, The Goodies and The Kenny Everett Show were on tv most weeknights, so I knew the Brits could do excellent comedy. The Young Ones was at another level - what a groundbreaking creation. Stunning to hear Adrian Edmonson say it was made at a rate of an episode a week.
Great to see Ade doing interviews and talking about the young ones again..Botton was better though!! My comedy hero without a question of a doubt. Stupendiously funny guy. Him & Rik were just mental together 😅😅
Comedy genius.. The laughs Ade and Rik gave us still echo to this day
What a legend.
I just finished his book. Very well written & highly recommend. Thank you for so many laughs.
Love ade! Love rick! These two were obviously joined at the hip! Lots of love too both of you guys! Ricks loss was shattering for me so I can’t begin to imagine what his passing did to you!
Bottom Live shows are pure comedic genius. Rick & Adrian were a tremendous duo. Even when they made a blooper you could see how well matched and how the compliment eachothers style. The only thing i saw almost at good was 'The mighty Boosh' that are held in such high regard.
To the station. Legend. RIP (P)Rick.
I love British comedy, but these guys transcended that. Masters of the art. His wife and her comedic partners as well. And Alexie Sayle too!!!
He’s just so awesome ❤
He says that The Young Ones filled 0.5% of his life to make but it filled so much more of mine, thank you.
I think I was about 6 or 7 when the first Comic Relief happened, it was one of the few occasions my parents let me stay up and it was because I wanted to see The Young Ones as the BBC never seemed to repeat it and I'd only seen little clips here and there and we didn't have money for a video back then.
They were so different to all the other comedy on offer in Britain that I could never relate to but anarchy is something every 80's kid can relate to and every kid wanted to be Vyvyan
Available alongside My first and last memoir 2 - The sequel 🤣
"Once in every lifetime....!"
There are lines from all of The Comic Strip team's work that are burnt into my brain. They are the DNA of the best UK comedy (1980-1985).
"Escorts, bestcorts! Come in if you're saucy!"
Maximum love to Rik, Ade and Peter Richardson/Pete Richens...I love you... Xxx
That episode, Mr Jolly...I still use so many lines from that. "Balmy fluid! I'll have some of that!" any time I am drinking, "neh bu shi shang hong", "never ever bloody anything ever", "you're pissed, aren't you", and of course the shouting incoherently that they did while lying in (IN!) the piss trough...gold.
Thats me Billy Balfor... The man with no name 😂 class
"If it's tonic water you want, it's tonic water you'll get!"
Another one I use quite often is "Another old English pub!"

Listen to berserker on audible didn't realise how much he has done behind the screen amazing book he always keeps strong no matter what happens in life I highly recommend it
What a great interview!! Loved the Young Ones!! 💕🇦🇺💃
Watching the Young Ones on MTV was a high for my friends and I and will always be a moment of time that made us happy.
I saw Rik and Ade live in Scarborough 2001 I think it was when they were doing Bottom Live 4. I wish I got to meet them both
Rik died warning us. Loved him then, love him more so now 🙏 love Ade also
My first real fond memories is watching bottom with my parents back in the 90’s along with father ted but I still watch bottom and the young ones now!
Love Ade, watched The Young Ones every Tuesday night, can't ever remake this
Adrian Edmondson ia a true tv legend and a british hero.
I watched the Young ones as a kid, although I was too young to understand most of the comedy.
And I especially remember the play between Rick and Vyvyan, quite crazy 😄
I still have his book, How To Be A Complete Bastard ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I miss Rik
thanks for being a total legend.
Loved the Young Ones, congrats on the memoir! Can’t wait to read it
I seriously p*ssed myself the first time the bobbies come in and smash the pad up…then say ‘ROIGHT’. Fond fond memories
Ade, it might have been made over a short while but it gave so many people immense pleasure and comedy like music and films has that ability to take you away from troubled times for a while, so I'm sure it helped loads of people too.
I was a little disappointed when you almost dismissed comedy at one point when you were interviewed a while back by saying you were doing proper acting now and almost looked at it as a step up from what you did in comedy. I think comedy is a unique and you have to have a special ability to be able to do that very well and you certainly did that along with the rest of the gang, although I always felt Christopher Ryan struggled with the part of Mike, he just didn't have that sprinkling of magic you need to deliver comic lines really well. It's the old adage , timing and how you phrase lines is everything.
Great comedy never gets old, I still at times find myself watching some of Laurel and Hardy's old routines and they're pure gold.
Your old mate Rik did a comedy sketch with Cannon and Ball once, an unlikely pairing, but it worked beautifully well, all down to great time and delivery.
What an absolute class fella. 👍
Adrian Street sadly passed away just this year (2023). He once beat up Jimmy Savile, when Savile was wrestling.
That bed stunt still makes laugh out loud even after all this time. I saw it for the first time when the show was on PBS in the 80s and made me crazy with laughter.
That's brilliant.
Where did Edina Monsoon's name originate?
Every day's a schoolday....🤣
When I was in year 6, we had a leavers assembly, and everyone in the class had to do something, like some girls did a dance routine etc, my best friend Sean and I acted out a scene from bottom. I was 10 years old… Fairly certain the teachers didn’t know what Bottom was, as we basically trashed an assembly, ending with a plastic bottle hitting the headteacher and knocking his glasses off. We were obsessed, physical comedy at its very best. Can’t believe it’s been a decade since Rik Mayall died. He was my absolute hero.
Good to see him name check Zodiac Mindwarp….Prime Mover is an absolute bop….great video aswell.
That Joni Mitchell story was surreal. I just bought Arian's audiobook. Can't wait to listen.
Absolute legend.
The Comic Strip Presents is some of the most brilliant comedy ever made! They were young and just went for it! So much fun! I admire them all. I miss Rik Mayall so much 🙏🥰
Them virgin stars behind Adrian used to be on Vivian's forhead
I loved Bottom the programme that brought me many a laugh over time comedy genius 🤣
Ade is a truly great bloke
Every time I see an older Ade I miss Rick. Gone too soon. But losing your best friend (thankfully mines still alive), that's got to be like losing a sibling or a spouse. Although best friends tend to know you better than either.

@@philkasafir. Happy for you!
Yes, the Vyvian/ Adrian change is perhaps the most extreme of all four of them!❤️
Way back in the 80s I saw the young Ones live in a tent at Glastonbury fest...
The Young Ones was gloriously raw and brave and even innocent, and I will always remember that some of these bricks explode.
Finally the two greatest gentlemen flyers in the world meet ........................
I was very much into tennis back in the day when The Young Ones was on.
Vivian was the closest thing I had to a tennis coach.
My playing style was EXTREMELY aggressive.
I would smash a winning volley and celebrate the point by stomping on bugs.
I get the impression he dislikes the way posterity has airbrushed Bottom from the record. Bottom got the ratings, a run of three series, the live shows and the film.
The Young Ones didn’t and, as he points out, amounted to less than 14 weeks of his life.
Young Ones was groundbreaking and infinitely more strange and memorable. Fair or not, like with Fawlty Towers, less ended up being more.
Bottom won best new comedy at the British comedy awards in 1992 so ade you must have forgotten that ❤ this guy rikband ade were the best x
Happy Birthday, Adrian! :)
