I've never seen this interview. Remarkable to see, visually, the manic Rick whilst hearing the calm, thoughtful voice of the actor who played him. It's like a reverse possession.
To me, Mayall and Edmondson were Britain's best ever comic due. Neither was a straight man, they were both absolute masters of comedy, timing, and pretend physical violence. I think that Bottom is the funniest sitcom ever, and I can't believe it's over thirty years old, as it still seems so fresh and new. Only the in-universe references to things like politics, national shop chains that have now been extinct for decades, and now long gone TV presenters identify the program as being so old. But it's humour is absolutely timeless.
@@MaximilianonMars Well trouble is that we would have to get Corden into the same state so he can deliver the request for Rik to return personally .I'm OK with that to be honest.
I know it’s silly, I never met him and he’s been dead a while, but I really miss Rik. He was such a big part of my childhood and such a funny, talented and clearly a nice guy. There are so few like him.
Don’t normally have great things to say about celebrities in general but I really do miss this man I grew up loving everything that he did always put a smile on my face
The young ones and bottom were my childhood had cool parents I had the vhs’s at about 10 years old my little mates would come round because they weren’t allowed to watch 15+ tapes😂
High resolution imagery didn’t begin with digital cameras in the 21st century. Film has a far superior quality to anything digital has to offer and always has (though I think this clip was most probably recorded straight to video, not on film). It isn’t that recording resolution has improved, but rather the devices used to reproduce and display imagery, en masse.
British TV used the PAL video system instead of NTSC, which was used in the USA. The resolution of PAL was better than NTSC on general. Plus, the camera system used here was analog and was recorded straight to tape, so there was very little degradation (no edits or multiple dubs)
I often chuckle at comments like this. People think high resolution is a new, digital thing. This mentality is likely a product of consumer marketing. Put it this way, have you ever seen an old film? You know, on film?
I love Rik Mayall. He always brings me joy because my grandma said I reminded her of Rik in 'The Young Ones' and my blonde cousin reminded her of Vyvian 😂😊
Miss you! What a legend! You were on my lifetime bucket list to meet but never got a chance! Will be watching the Xmas episode of bottom tommorow! Gone to soon! Legend!!!
I used to LOOOOOOOOOOOVE watching The Young Ones when it first aired. Then he had a short lived variety short video program, also on MTV I think. Either way, I just now found out he died in 2014. And now in 2024 I’m quite saddened. RIP Rik.
Why do people say that? Such a waste? He will be remembered, he’s left a whole host of movies, TV shows, interviews, characters, etc. But it’s a “waste” because... why?
Rick was the funniest guy iv ever saw I used to laugh my ass of as a lad watching the young ones plus bottom especially the one were he cuts his finger off that is the bomb you will never get a funnyer guy than Rick R.I.P Rick ❤
To me his one of the funniest guys ever he didn’t even have to try to be funny there was just something about him .. sad they cut all his parts from Harry Potter .. still find bottom hilarious to this day
I never seen him talk properaly like not acting, he sounds so calm.
He's still a bit manic. I have to wonder if he's a bit coked up here.
Love that, he can also switch into that "fun" mode so fast! It's impressive.
And his real accent
He was so uncomfortable doing proper interviews, you can tell by how he’s sitting and fidgeting
Rick was a true legend. Taken way to soon. Miss you Rick. God bless ♥️🙏
RIP Rick. But if there is a heaven, he's up there creating mayhem!

Rik was a legend while he was still alive. He and Ade were a formidable duo.
They were friends too

We lost Rik and we ended up with James Corden there's no justice in this world.😮
There is.....Corden went to the US.
@@sureshot8399 Let's hope he stays there.
Even if trading James for Rik wouldn't bring Rik back, we should still try!

He was the choice for peeves in Harry Potter his scenes were cut though.

Everything that came out of Riks mouth was comedic gold lol. Rest in peace to a major part of my childhood❤
"Neil! How are you holding that flower pot up?!"
"What!! Like your trousers?!"
he was gorgeous, I still have a crush on him.
Likewise he was SO handsome.
That man needs a statue dedicated to him....he's a true British legend..
It would probably get "cancelled"...
I know I’m late to the party, but I was born and raised in his home town Harlow, and they do have an amazing mural of him on the theatre wall.

Even though he’s dressed as the character, you can tell just from the thumbnail he’s out of character. It’s so weird to hear him sound normal😂
He just finished a stand up routine as rik from the young ones.
