For the people that don't understand Afrikaans, they said that the motor took him 4 years to build. This is a great piece of machinery and only skilled engineers are capable of building something extraordinary like this from scratch
My congragulations to the builder! This at just over a thousand hand made parts? A machinist accomlishment extrordinar! My hats off to you my freind,,,this is really cool.
Amazing, Loved watching the Video. I am an engine rebuilder and have huge respect for you. The dedication and patience to produce such a work of art is exceptional.
who ever built that engine did one hell of a good job it sounds just like a full size chevy V8 . it does have a way loppy cam but it sound amazing and the fact he went as far as to make full length headers to fit it is amazing in it self
if you could start producing these in moderately large quantities you could sell them to every tech school, auto enthusiast, and go kart hobbiest in the world
Very nice engineering and machining skills to say the least!!! VERY impressive build!! Your efforts are to be comended!!!! AMAZING work at recreating an American muscle car V-8!!!! Great job who ever was envolved in this entire project!!!! Wow, just WOW!!!
that is awesome, where can i buy something like this unassembled, if you made this yourself would you be interested in doing a kit and how much. good work, impressive.
Real men have to rev it; doesn't matter if it is a mower, chainsaw, motorcycle, Junior the mini engine, gas powered tooth brush. It's all the same and it's in the blood.
Wes he would wook at the cute wittle pistons and stuff aww so cute... sucker has a bark tho!! Haha those rod bolts! So itty bitty and cute as buttons!!
Neil smit Just brilliant that he can do this. You really need to build a miniature car around this engine and drive it. It would probably be quite a spectacle at school fairs etc.
I realise this is a year old but I am a retired mechanic and would love to build one of these and then install it in somethiong fundementally usable. Where can a kit like this be purchased?
This engine was custom built in a machine shop, and is likely one of a kind. The only way to get something like this is to buy a Conley engine or make it yourself in a machine shop. Conley's engines are preassembled, but cost $6,000 and up. You can also get rc cars from Conley that already have the engine installed. Just look up Conley engines on google and you should find Mr. Conley's website. He has an engine out now called the stinger 609 (6.09 cubic inches) V8 that is available with a supercharger.
"All parts manually machined, no CNC used." You sir have to one great machinist. My hat's off to ya. I don't know how you got all the specs down, but that sound is a chevy v8 for sure. Not as deep but chevy. I'm a life time chevy fan.
That's an awesome little machine, but chevy v8's aren't over head cam. Why did u choose that over a push rod engine? Again, I'm not criticizing the amount of time and talent that took, but its not really a chevy v8 model.
+Larry Blowers the north star was a Cadillac design, loaned to old's, Buick, and Pontiac. it was dual overhead, and the block was two piece. even less like the model in question
if it's a 250 I would say it's got 20hp maybe more... probably a lot of torque for 250cc though. watching him bolt down the heads though... I don't think it will run long....
Beautiful job! The work is amazing. That crank alone is a work of art. I can't believe how much negative commenting is in here though; makes me sad that so many people can not appreciate this project. I would wager that most people making these disparaging remarks have never seen a machine shop, let alone made anything more complex than a coke spoon. Using lathes, mills, grinders and precision measuring equipment is a skill that too few possess these days. And anyone that has a hobby knows that you can put thousands of dollars and countless hours into a project or leisure pursuit. Why blow shit at someone for following their passion? I imagine the personal pride and satisfaction of building this jewel is off the scale. As to not firing for the first few times...this is what it is like when trying to fire a fresh CARBURETOR engine with no know jetting specs. A brand new fresh engine light off for the first time can often give you fits. Yes if you are using a Ford/ Mope/ or Chebby, there are thousands of places to find jetting recommendations for your machine, but this is a ONE OFF, no such numbers are readily available .Fuel to air and electrons are not scalable... they got it pretty close. And a fresh build sometimes does not fire off the bat. Instead of throwing cold water on this remarkable achievement, or saying a real SBC is cheaper, spend 4 years and build your own. It looks like a great engine for the mothballed Junior Dragster or Quarter Midget. Just wondering on bore and stroke and did the builder use dedicated piston/ rods? Again, Great Job. The sound of it revving makes me smile. Thank you!
Hi Dan Thanks for the kind words. You are 100% correct. I attribute the negativity to jealousy ;) As for the first start, it is generally accepted that if you "roll your own" mini engine it could take up to a year for you to work out the kinks and get it running. This was the first attempt at getting it to run.
too bad they don't make kits u can build your self I would love to teach my son with one of these he is 9 and loves to wrench this would be awesome for a go kart but I would want like 75 to 90 hp atleast and as he got older up the hp with real life scale up grades heads cams etc...
86 STREET start em young, that's what my dad did when I was younger, now we're building a 1969 el Camino together, and I'm going to take the auto program at my school
And a fuckton of tooling, time, and patience. It's not really as easy as getting the machine and drawing it up in CAD. You have to remember that each cut has to be setup and indicated on fixturing, usually multiple times to get a nice finishing cut. Unless you've got a multi-axis in your home, machining a complete long-block v8 would take months, if not years. Even then, you can't do everything on a mill/lathe, some procedures on workpieces benefit from other methods of removing material, such as grinding.
This engine is awesome, very nice indeed. The overhead camshaft concept on a Chevy 350 is interesting and the only thing I would change if building a full size engine of this design would be gear drive camshafts.
seeing the engine run is remarkable, but for me when they showed the assembly it was fantastic. The only thing that would make it better would be to have a scale model vehicle with transmission and drive assemble that would actually drive that would show them using it as a working vehicle in scale of course. Kudos to the designers and individuals who assembled the motor and set it up to actually work.
Where are the comments stating that their awesome car (whatever it is thats supposed to impress everyone) sounds better than this hobby engine? Awesome vid btw.
Bearing caps do not like they have enough give in them. Might be worth while to neck down the bolts so they turn maybe 1/4 turn. The bolts need to allow some stretch when the engine gets hot so they do not pull too hard as the aluminum expands and contracts. On the other hand you have built this one and I have not! ROFL I only have full sized engines to compare. You have done a wonderful job. Thanks!
i wish mount that in a motorcycle, now i'm with a proyect of a drag bike using a zanella 80cc due engine (zanella was a great motorcycle manufacturer in Argentina using minarelli patentes, now only import chinese copies of honda) great job!!!
beautifull little engine, and such details in all of the parts. give every mom of a 5 year old a scare, (have their kids at highway speeds in a go-cart in no time!!)
I've watched every scale V8 engine on youtube and this is far and away the best sounding one of the lot. Congratulations, you nailed it.
This is the best sounding model engine I have ever heard, great idle as well.
For the people that don't understand Afrikaans, they said that the motor took him 4 years to build. This is a great piece of machinery and only skilled engineers are capable of building something extraordinary like this from scratch
I am not an engineer, and built one.
I wonder if I could put this on a motorcycle.
Hanno van Niekerk i can kinda unserstand the way you make your sounds seeing afrikaans is a sister language to dutch (my native language)
Don Rutter you manufactured all of the parts for a v8 and built it?
@@donrutter6765 then your are skilled
My congragulations to the builder! This at just over a thousand hand made parts? A machinist accomlishment extrordinar! My hats off to you my freind,,,this is really cool.
Amazing, Loved watching the Video. I am an engine rebuilder and have huge respect for you. The dedication and patience to produce such a work of art is exceptional.
WOW!. No CNC, just a lot of skill and patience. What a beautiful job. Good for you.
It sounds just like the full size engine. Nicely done.
just appreciating the effort that would have gone into this.
whoever machined the parts has mad cad -cam,& fabrication skill, even if its all pro-E,or
solid works..
its impressive..
who ever built that engine did one hell of a good job it sounds just like a full size chevy V8 . it does have a way loppy cam but it sound amazing and the fact he went as far as to make full length headers to fit it is amazing in it self
I could see this going in one of those old pedal cars from the 50s, now that would be awesome
Masen yesssss
this guy is proudly south Africa .............thats sweet .......when u played jimmy Dludlu song i was impressed
if you could start producing these in moderately large quantities you could sell them to every tech school, auto enthusiast, and go kart hobbiest in the world
I’d put this on my dirt bike XD
Yeah as long as they ain't 8500 like the Conley 609 stinger
Or in a shaft driven lawn mower
Used engines are cheaper..
@Melvin: maybe they might be cheaper, but less cooler as well. A go-kart with a V8? Hilarious...
Congrats to the designer, machining and builder ,Outstanding..
This miniature engine stuff is pretty cool. Now I want to build myself a Chevy V8 like this one. Nice sound out of it (2:00)!
Yea that would be way fun to do!
I checked into these a whole back, there fairly expensive. You might as well build the real thing
Darn it.
Don't I know it
You are crazy
Damn that sounds powerful! Throttle response looks really sharp!
With that compression ratio you should turbo charge that beast.
Good job!
This would be so cool on a go cart or bike.
TheOutty500 woudn't survive under a load
TheOutty500 LOL, didn't expect to see you here!
Lol I see you everywhere man haha!
TheOutty500 motorbike v8
right put it on a bike
That thing sounds like a friggin Asphalt Modified!
Amazing Cam timing!
WELL DONE WELL DONE WELL DONE!!
the lil baby pistons are so cute
they probably came out of weed eaters
that is sick never seen a v8 that small and it runs and sounds like its biger brother awesome job
Now that's what I call a small block Chevy
😜
Callum Ross I
But it is a modular engine. Chevy is push rod
Knee slapper
Callum Ross I see what you did there, you sly dog you..
Even has a miniature engine stand that looks very authentic nice job man
Real men have to rev it; doesn't matter if it is a mower, chainsaw, motorcycle, Junior the mini engine, gas powered tooth brush. It's all the same and it's in the blood.
Agree 100%
I want a gas powered toothbrush now...
Fine example that pictures or worth more then words, I couldn't understand a single word and im still more then impressed! Well done well done boys
I was hoping he would use a tiny torque wrench when assembling the engine.
Thanks.Great Junior Model CHEVY V8.Mmmmmmmm
I love the way how you show it is assembled.
Meanwhile, im trying to put my mowers air filter back on.
Will Matters I’m trying to fix a rc nitro car
Will Matters
I know how you feel
Same, air filter always pops off.
Lmao. I know the feeling!
Mooi om te horen dat deze mensen Nederlands en Engels tot een fabelachtige taal samenvoegen.
interesting, using the internal cam to drive the distributor still but having over head cams for the valvetrain, no pushrod bores to make or lubricate
Hey guy, what for a nice toy! I hope you have a lot of fun with it. Greetings from Germany.
Imagine this in a go cart. with a tiny supercharger
Giannis Erik I'd rather put in a full size one
Hell yea! Sick
If rather put in a tiny big block 😂😂
Why go with a tiny one go for the one used on the corvette to get maximum power 😂
M7 Machines that's an oxymoron lol tiny big block
Beautiful job!! Only in South Africa. Thumbs Up for this one.
This is what a man would call "cute".
Wes he would wook at the cute wittle pistons and stuff aww so cute...
sucker has a bark tho!!
Haha those rod bolts!
So itty bitty and cute as buttons!!
CrustyModernLife? With an idle like that, I wouldn't call it cute.
I noticed the first minute breaking in that the oil smoke on the right bank went away. Thats a cute little bugger.
Sir I think you mispelles cool
Thats called skill not cute but bad ass
You should get this put of the market man this is awesome.
This is probably one of the coolest things on this earth!
Did you guys actually manufacture that entire engine yourself?
Hi. Yes, my dad manufactured all the parts in his garage. Only things like O-rings and nuts&bolts were bought.
Neil smit WOW, that is absolutely fantastic! How did he machine the bits though, does he have a full workshop?
geofreyr No, just a standard double garage at home. He does have some nice machining tools.
Neil smit How much for one of these :D?
Neil smit Just brilliant that he can do this. You really need to build a miniature car around this engine and drive it. It would probably be quite a spectacle at school fairs etc.
so much detail! even a working cluch and oil filter!
I realise this is a year old but I am a retired mechanic and would love to build one of these and then install it in somethiong fundementally usable. Where can a kit like this be purchased?

GyroPyro12 Thanks, I got tired of repeating myself or telling the people to just read the damn info section...
GyroPyro12 His site is ConleyPrecision. com I have one of his engines in a 1/4 Scale Monster truck.
+Lone Ranger No, not yet, need to get back into "Hobby Mode"!
rcWizzard you have a video?
"All parts manually machined, no CNC used." You sir have to one great machinist. My hat's off to ya.
I don't know how you got all the specs down, but that sound is a chevy v8 for sure. Not as deep but chevy. I'm a life time chevy fan.
I bet this engine would power my VW beetle
nicholas cremato okay now we absolutely have to find this out
It would probably just spin the tires though
V8 chevy swapped bus Irizar? RENATINHO DA HERO PUCH
All you need now is a mini Superformance AC Cobra! Excellent job, very cool.
Did you ever measure the power output (hp)?
And awesome build. Well done!
I wanted to know that too, hope they give an answer!
World's smallest engine dyno, heheh.
If these guys actually machined the parts for this engine I am extremely impressed.
+TrulyUnfortunate It wasn't machined by guyS, it was machined by my dad only. Over the course of 4 years he machined each part single-handedly.
+Neil smit
Nice!! I was a machinist for twenty five years so I have an appreciation for the level of difficulty.
*****
I've been retired for around four years, and I'm thinking about buying a lathe and a mill just to screw around with. I actually miss it.
whats the compression ratio,and hp/torque ?
need to dyno it.
Dude better watch out for that fan !!!
Very nice build ......
That's an awesome little machine, but chevy v8's aren't over head cam. Why did u choose that over a push rod engine? Again, I'm not criticizing the amount of time and talent that took, but its not really a chevy v8 model.
+BiffBallbag Its still a v8.,
123maito I am aware of that, but the title says model chevy v8, and its not even close in design to a chevy v8.
+BiffBallbag I understand your point
oldsmobile and cadillac both divisions of chevrolet built and used overhead cam v8 engines
+Larry Blowers the north star was a Cadillac design, loaned to old's, Buick, and Pontiac. it was dual overhead, and the block was two piece. even less like the model in question
One of the few that sound real. incredible engineering.
I don't think it would pull a go kart really. what kind of hp can u get out of it??
if it's a 250 I would say it's got 20hp maybe more... probably a lot of torque for 250cc though. watching him bolt down the heads though... I don't think it will run long....
your average go kart is only 212cc, big single cylinder slow revving air cooled engine, making about 7hp, this would be amazing in a go kart
Most 1/5 scale V-8's run 5-10 hp.
Beautiful job! The work is amazing. That crank alone is a work of art. I can't believe how much negative commenting is in here though; makes me sad that so many people can not appreciate this project. You said it perfectly!
He wan't 8 Grand for one of these, I could by A decent LT1 For that price!
+Peter Grillett I'd like to know where you got that price? This isn't for sale, never has been, never will be.
The site in a few comment below me.
The shittiest V8 there was 8 Grand!
+Peter Grillett it's called a hobby... try some :)
+Matej Sommer his hobby is fullsize engines
James Flores even if that was true, it takes more skill to design small working model of an engine than just assembling full-sized one...
That is one of the better mini's I have seen, very crisp
too bad they don't make kits u can build your self I would love to teach my son with one of these he is 9 and loves to wrench this would be awesome for a go kart but I would want like 75 to 90 hp atleast and as he got older up the hp with real life scale up grades heads cams etc...
86 STREET Yeah that's a good idea for teaching a kid the basics of an engine.
86 STREET start em young, that's what my dad did when I was younger, now we're building a 1969 el Camino together, and I'm going to take the auto program at my school
86 STREET i wish i had a father like you.
86 STREET there is a company that makes a scale V8 kit, ConleyPrecision
Who built this engine??? Can these be purchased?
that is soooo dam cool sounds dam good too like my modified 55 Chevy I had when I was a teenager wow!wow WOW!!!
Where do I get this? Can anyone tell me please
He made it himself.
+Eldon Ritter
And some sand castings.

id love to see a mini kids car with this in the front , baddest kid on the block!
ill put it in my son's power wheels
66MustangClay great idea
I love the lumpy cam with it's rough idle overlap sound. That engine sounds like my big block 460 CID in my Corvette, only a little quieter.
where can i buy it ?
He made it himself
thats cool ass little motor, one day i want to build one and stick it in a bike so it can be my pride and joy
Idle sounds like Mazda 787B
+VilzuX
Zoom-Zoom. :-)
Definitely sounds it a Chevy V8 above idle.
Agree
This engine is awesome, very nice indeed.
The overhead camshaft concept on a Chevy 350 is interesting and the only thing I would change if building a full size engine of this design would be gear drive camshafts.
Yeah right - except Chevy V8s don't have starters on the left side!!! Try again Pedro!
or overhead cams or that exhaust port set up unless he was going more for the ls platform which the valve covers dont look like
rod builder fuel pumps also not on driver side
GREAT!! next time you guys do it then
Okay then let's see how accurate your version is
I'd like to see a bench result! Truely fantastic work!
Did you built all the parts or bought some :D ? I am asking because i am intersted to make 1 v8 on my own
Loving the sniff of easy start to get it going!
93k+ views and only 493 likes counting mine, wtf is wrong with you other people...
seeing the engine run is remarkable, but for me when they showed the assembly it was

go kart would do good for that
Put it in a kart
Where are the comments stating that their awesome car (whatever it is thats supposed to impress everyone) sounds better than this hobby engine? Awesome vid btw.
Even though it's so small, it sounds 1000 times better than some fucking gay Honda engines :))
+imon421 why are honda engines gay?
cuz they sound gay :)
+imon421 Hell no, Honda engine can rach like 8000 rpm easily and they sound very cool
+Saddam Hussein so what.
+serginietor Because Honda make more lawnmowers than they make cars. Civics are basically lawnmowers anyway.
It's magnificent best motor I've seen and that cam is like heaven
Put in golf cart
This is a fantastic bit of work, well done!
the ignition is over-advanced...
Put that on a go cart frame and I bet it would roast the tires! Neat little engine
Afrikaans
+Armand Botes Yes that is the language they are mostly speaking.
Thanks!
If it leaks oil then it's indeed a Chevy engine...
Yes very well done, congratulations on your fine work.
i wish mount that in a motorcycle, now i'm with a proyect of a drag bike using a zanella 80cc due engine (zanella was a great motorcycle manufacturer in Argentina using minarelli patentes, now only import chinese copies of honda) great job!!!
That little thing sounds like a beast.
That's amazing. Great video. I'd love to see one of these installed on a go-cart or a small motorcycle.
Gokart for sure.
The crank doesn't have any ball bearings, so I don't think it could do more than a couple runs under load.
Joseph Alukka ah, good idea, copper bushings no doubt. But would look cool either way!
+Joseph Alukka it has full pressure lubrication just like a real car engine ,,you'd be surprised at how long it will run
Lo veo y no lo creo fantastico el encendido el clutch y es de 4tiempos la marcha .esta super eres .no tengo palabras para elogiarte
I can't imagine how awesome this would be in a go cart
Neil, absolute masterpiece in engineering !!!
this thing actually sounds like a tiny 350 chevy cheers!!!
To me it's a hybrid between a Small Block Chevy and 427 Single Over Head Cam (SOHC) Ford. Beautiful build!
beautifull little engine, and such details in all of the parts.
give every mom of a 5 year old a scare, (have their kids at highway speeds in a go-cart in no time!!)
Damn that's a good sound from that little engine. Sounds like an old Ferrari California" like the one from ferris bulers day off
What n enjin boitjies! Klink flippen mooi, hou aan met die goeie werk!!
Sweet, like the grind on the cam!
thats like a mix of a classic sbc,and a ford modular v8 awesome
Beautiful headers and sound
EXCELENTE TRBAJO TE FELICITO!!! Impresionante!!!
This is good for someone to get that is getting into cars and hot rods so that they can learn
very beautiful work!
...the motor is full size...the dude is just huge...!
Kudos. Awesome engineering. Love it!!!
Don't know how fast it would be, but you could make one cool looking go-kart with this.
