Ethos Ceramic Matrix Coating | Rinse Test

  • This is a rinse test of the new Ceramic Matrix Coating from Ethos Car Care. Ceramic Matrix is rated as a 3+ year 9H coating certified by SGS and made in the USA. At $75 for 50ml, this is Ethos' lower priced option for users to net two coats on any car or truck, coming at a lower pricepoint than the Graphene Matrix Coating.
    Ethos Ceramic Matrix Coating (50ml): amzn.to/3rS9cbO
    Ethos Ceramic Matrix Coating Kit: amzn.to/38bp69G
    Two coats of the Ceramic Matrix Coating were applied to the left half of the test panel, and two coats of the Ethos Graphene Matrix Coating were applied to the right half of the panel. The paint was prepped using 3D One Hybrid Compound and Finish Polish, followed up with Sonax Perfect Finish, then Ethos Detox to clean up any remaining polishing oils prior to applying the coatings.
    1 hour was given in between coats before applying the second coat on top, then 14 days were given for both coatings to cure on the surface prior to this first rinse test.
    Overall, the hydrophobics are top notch for both coatings, and the properties are quite similar between them yielding similar levels of gloss, slickness, ease of use, and water behavior. Many coatings on the market require separate durable topcoats to achieve similar levels of hydrophobicity, whereas these coatings can achieve this by themselves without a different topcoat. This combined with the ease of use and relative improved slickness makes these both a very attractive coating offering in my opinion.
    It's likely going to take time to decipher if whether or not the graphene oxide as an additive to paint coatings will exhibit greater performance traits, but the reality is sio2 based coatings have yielded excellent durability for many years, and if this Ceramic Matrix Coating can offer competitive durability over the years, then it could prove to become one of my favorites.
    3D One Hybrid Compound and Polish: amzn.to/2LlK3Fy
    Sonax Perfect Finish (250ml): amzn.to/3b3ynCe

    Great video WaxMode! Thanks for taking the time to showcase our Ceramic Matrix and Graphene Matrix coatings.
    As you mentioned, both coatings illicit really incredible performance and durability especially for how easy they are to use and apply (Without the need for an additional top coating). The inherent benefits of adding Graphene into the structure of Graphene Matrix will begin to show through as time goes on, where its true advantages like chemical resistance, abrasion resistance etc. will start to pull ahead slightly (This is one reason why, as you mentioned, head to head coating testing on a test hood doesn't tell the full story or replace real world testing). That being said Ceramic Matrix is an incredibly high performing option and in our opinion the best value for performance on the market.

      Thanks Tim! Loving both coatings so far, one of the best benefits is not requiring that top coat to achieve that top notch hydrophobic performance as you said. Definitely makes them attractive compared to Mohs and CSL. Really loving the formulas for these, nice work!

    On most channels I never see hydrophobic water behavior like this, which means something went wrong during the prepping stage, I see how prepared the surface is to receive the coatings and how really really clean the paint is.

    Happy New Years bud. Glad to see you back. Looking forward to your reviews in 2021. You know, I still haven't made the jump to a ceramic coating. As little as I drive my sports car, a good sealant works fine for me. Topping it up with a good Si02 infused spray sealant and I am getting longevity and great hydrophobics. I finally figured out Polish Angel Rapidwaxx. I wasn't using it right. I had been waiting too long to remove it and it was drying slightly so it was difficult to remove. Once I figured out to spray it on and wipe it back off immediately, getting great results and very easy to use. Love that stuff. My next jump will be to Polish Angel High Gloss. Hearing great things about that one. Really liking all my Polish Angel stuff. It's pricey but I don't mind paying for it because of how good it really is.

    • @WaxMode
      @WaxMode  3 года назад

      Happy New Years Joe! The ceramic coating as the base protectant is definitely the end game for me, you would notice that it really fights the tendency to want to slow down in terms of its water behavior compared to what Polish Angel can achieve by itself. But it's not entirely necessary so long as you're up on your washes and maintaining the paint regularly, especially with Polish Angel after your washes.
      Great to hear you're enjoying Polish Angel as well! Yeah I should have noted that about Rapidwaxx, it's definitely an immediate wipe on/wipe off product, Cosmic Spritz and High Gloss are the same in that regard. Haven't used them in a few months, I'm definitely having withdrawals being away from my supply for so long now, can't wait to get them back in my hands. Good to hear from you Joe!

    • @joevanseeters2873

      @@WaxMode Yeah, I think I will probably make the jump over to a base layer coating in the spring, unless I go for Polish Angel Cosmic V2 and High Gloss as a topper OR Viking Shield and Viking Spritz as a combo. I've heard really good things about the Viking Series from Polish Angel and their longevity, durability, and gloss as well. I think Viking Shield & Spritz are similar to High Gloss and Cosmic V2/Cosmic Spritz just maybe a little more of the Si02 or whatever they put in those products to give the durability.

      @WaxMode  3 года назад +1

      Hey Aimone! I actually haven't worked with a Metrovac or Big Boi blowers, I've seen a lot of people like them though in the reviews. My next blower that I would get is the EGO blower, I already have the EGO trimmer that I really like a lot so it would make sense to go that route.
      My thoughts on blowers is I really want full portability, zero cords because they always get in the way and are a scratch hazard. Next is I want both high CFM and high MPH, that's how you're going to get a wide range of usable air flowing across the paint that can blast the beads off. The only issue (aside from high price) I see with the EGO is the longer nose attachment, but once Matt at Obsessed Garage finds a long term solution then that should be the best blower option for me.

I like both of these better than Ethos Resist by a long shot for regular maintenance. I also enjoy Meguiar’s Hybrid Ceramic Detailer and the Polish Angel trio (High Gloss, Rapidwaxx, Cosmic Spritz), but for light maintenance Bead Maker and Defy are great.

Ethos Foam Party and Sonax Actifoam Energy are very good foaming soaps as well, Foam Party being one of the best foamers I've used.

      Thanks Dan, a number of mine have held up for years without issues. The sprayer itself can definitely be better quality, it's not the most comfy sprayer to use either, but the utility of the center flood during the rinse outweighs the negatives.
      Gilmour recently did a redesign of this nozzle, I don't see it available on Amazon yet but I purchased mine at Meijer. Definitely better quality compared to the one in this video, smoother swivel, more comfortable, and MUCH easier to switch between spray settings compared to the last as well. If you have a Meijer in your area check the garden section and see if the new nozzles are on the shelf.

Having never used a proper ceramic coating, I was thinking that using this stuff must be what some of the earlier coatings applications must have been like. Waited a few minutes after applying, as instructed, no rainbow noticed, but strange wipe off experience compared to the ceramic hybrid products. Not an easy wipe off, did not feel slick, but not streaky, either. The next day I thought maybe it was feeling a bit slicker. Anyhoo... that's my 5 cents.

    Performance, cost, gloss and easy to work with which one do you like, cquartz UK, CSL, or Ethos?

    • @WaxMode
      @WaxMode  3 года назад

      I have not tried the 3D Coating out. It's still early to tell with the Ethos coatings since we don't have a lot of time to confirm durability, but I'm really liking them a lot compared to CSL and CQUK. CSL you need a durable topcoat like EXO to really bump the hydrophobics up which will make things more expensive. CQUK is just much tackier on wipeoff and requires a heavy hand to level out, but otherwise is a fantastic proven option in terms of durability in my tests. So far this Ethos formula is balancing a lot of good features for a decent price with the 50ml bottle.
      I think CQUK is probably the coating that will offer the best darkening effect compared to both Ethos and CSL + EXO. But in terms of outright gloss I think they're all pretty similar.

    Interesting 2 step with 3D one and Sonax PF. I believe you mentioned it before. I have both polishes. Personally, i've been cutting with 3D one and following it up with a light finishing polish rather sonax PF on my test panels. In this case gyeon primer. Whats your thought process? I kinda feel 3D1 and PF are comparable. 3D1 cuts better but perfect finish does finish out nicer for a one step. Never tried using 3D1 on a finishing pad after the cut, which i think would match PF finish, but that's speculation.

    • @WaxMode

      Hey Brad! I've been throwing 3D One into the mix as a knockdown abrasive for the coatings as a medium cut, and following up with Sonax Perfect Finish as insurance afterwards to tag team with it. I had the Graphene Matrix Coating on the test panel prior to using these abrasives so usually I run a two step abrasive team like this before running a new test.
      I still think Sonax Perfect Finish is one of the finest abrasives I've worked with, the gloss numbers are fantastic when reading with the gloss meters, usually 3D One wasn't able to match PF's peak gloss readings, but still pretty close looking at the full picture. I'm liking both of them!

      Interesting 2 step and a great way to use product to justified trying another polish! :D

    Which would you chose if you could only have one on your car? Is one higher in gloss than the other?

    • @WaxMode
      @WaxMode  3 года назад +1

      I was seeing similar gloss readings between both coatings, and no significant visual difference on the test panel or Honda test car. That being said, since I've been away from the Honda test car for months, I do not have long-term durability results for its performance. But given that Ceramic Matrix coating is less expensive while still producing top notch hydrophobic behavior, I am definitely leaning toward it for the better value. The Ceramic Matrix is also available now in 30ml size which should be able get you two coats on compact to midsize vehicles if used appropriately in my experience.

    It would be great to see Turtle Wax's Graphene paste compared to Fusso Coat original!

    • @WaxMode
      @WaxMode  3 года назад +1

      Absolutely, curious to see how Turtle Wax Graphene Paste compares to Ice Paste Wax. Ice Paste was another hydrophobic heavy hitter when fresh, that yielded 5+ months of durability on the test car at diminished performance.
      I've used the Ceramic+Graphene Paste Wax on a few cars now, but still waiting for a good test car that I can fully polish and prep in order to get long term results with it. First wash after a week showed great hydrophobic behavior that looks to out bead Ice Paste.
      Also itching to get my hands on Gyeon's new Wax, Fusso was always a drag because the smell was toxic death, Gyeon Wax is fluorine based like Fusso, but based on early reviews it appears to be much more manageable and at least matching (if not besting) Fusso's short term hydrophobics.

    Heeey where have you been bro? Hope everything’s alright. Haven’t seen any uploads from you in over a year :( Come back to YT!!! Please haha. Since you haven’t uploaded for so long, you’re gonna have to make it up to us by rinsing the hood for an extended period and getting close ups etc. Basically beading ASMR. I uploaded a video I had to my channel a while ago straight from my phone but Idk why the video quality just doesn’t look as good as it should, even though I recorded it in 1080p 60fps and uploaded it straight from my iPhone 8, so the only compression should be RUclips’s. Is that the issue? Do you first transfer the video to some editing software on your PC and then upload from there?

      Cheers John! I will eventually come out with new videos in the future, I've got the new Gyeon coatings on order that should be in by the beginning of February that I can start testing and release some videos of. Gyeon Wax I've been doing tests of, I also have the latest CQuartz SiC coating that I need to test as well.

      Next month I will be down in Florida and I'll get a chance to wash that test car, so I'll be able to provide a durability update video for the Graphene Matrix Coating. The hood has been sitting outside the entire time with both of these coatings side by side so I'll also get a chance to see how those have held up. That hood I left out after bombarding it with hard water so it should be an interesting result.
      The Ceramic Matrix coating I recently did a two coat application up north, I can potentially have access to this for long-term review but access is limited and uncontrolled.
