    Looking awesome WaxMode! Its tout stuff and laughs at some pretty darn strong chemicals out there. Keep up the abuse and let us know how it continues to perform for you.
    One thing to consider in regards to hydrophobics after repeated wash/water testing. You can notice a slight degradation in water repellency as the coating filaments can actually become saturated with moisture over time (This is true for alot of coatings or forms of protection not just Graphene Matrix). Once the panel dries out they will bounce back like new!

    • @WaxMode
      @WaxMode  4 года назад +2

      Thanks Tim, I was a bit surprised at this performance, great results out of this application! Great information about the repeated water testing, that was my plan after the Super Clean dumping to allow the panel to sit for a little bit and settle down before the next batch of tests.

      And this is the one available for the public which is a 5 year long coating and now Ethos has the Professional version which is a 10 year long coating. Great job by a new company which is also doing exceptional products like Turtle Wax, Bilt Hamber, Wowo's, Griots and Meguiars have done through the years and new companies like xtreme solutions, 3d, Lithium, Sonax, Renegade products. Innovation and durability testing against harsh stuff is a game changer specially having detailers performing validation.

    I've watched this like 4 times, it's just so satisfying to see it shrug off these heavy hitting chemicals.
    I'm going through this stuff like crazy. At its price point and with its easy application I have no problem recommending it during an estimate, and everybody wants the new hotness.
    Is something like Essence Plus still a suitable maintenance polish/repair solution for this coating? I often use it at 6 and/or 12 months with traditional ceramic coatings that have some contamination and water spotting.

    • @WaxMode
      @WaxMode  3 года назад

      Sorry I missed this Keith, I avoid Essence Plus because with CQUK I noticed a permanent and very large decrease in hydrophobic behavior after using it on top. So Essence Plus would be a very last resort type of product and at that point I would already be thinking of just polishing and reapplying a new coating instead.

    • @jdisdetermined
      @jdisdetermined 3 года назад

      @@WaxMode no worries man, I've moved to ASP coatings almost exclusively now anyway. Protection gets absolutely hammered in my area, terrible water and fallout, tons of industrial manufacturing everywhere. Many people don't maintain it, so they almost always *have* to be deconned and refreshed if they live outside.
      I always top it in some manner so I've never really taken notice of standalone behavior of either version. I usually top a struggling coating with Moonlight after a refresh, which offers alot of protection for how inexpensive and quick it is to apply.
      Even though I tell them exactly what's going to happen, most people don't want to even *hear* they need a full recoat just a year later because they didn't do any friggin' maintenance and run it through car washes. So I have to compromise and stretch things out while still keeping my costs down and clients happy.
      Thanks for getting back man! 👍✌

    • @WaxMode
      @WaxMode  4 года назад

      I actually don't have a lot of time behind those kinds of soaps outside of short term behavior tests. Performance impact is going to be minimal on fresh protectants, so if topping was my goal I would still recommend going with a dedicated topper after the wash. I might reserve a section of this Graphene Matrix Coating and use Ceramic Shampoo on it once it starts to diminish to see if there's a strong impact on the daily driver.

      I’ve seen many reviews and tested a few soaps, and they don’t offer much protection as a stand alone product on bare paint except one. Turtle Wax Ceramic Wash & Wax of their Hybrid Solutions line. Now this may not be the answer you’re looking for, but as far as an impact, this soap gave beating and water sheeting on bare paint with just one wash. So this soap might be the best bet for toppers during maintenance washing. Still like Waxmode said, using a dedicated silica spray sealant or ceramic infused topper would be best to boost performance/longevity of a coating.

  • @GainingDespair

    Would like to see maybe some wheel acid, or some citrol as well. These cleaners are pretty effective at impacting spray ceramics, and sealants but (respectfully) are not known for having any effect on ceramic coatings, or this graphene one. I like the test but this is a true coating, these cleaners shouldn't affect it by design (the coating) so it's not exactly a surprise. Really compounding is the only reliable way to remove it and since that will work we probably need harsher chemicals.
    It would be interesting to see how it would hold up to a flame (not suggesting catching it on fire) but like a blow torch or a heat gun, I think we would really need to look at serious ways to remove a coating to determine it's resistance. I don't think citrol will even effect it but it's kinda a given that a coating should be able to survive this, the stuff is pretty decent with sealants, and spray ceramics but there is a big difference between those and this so I suggest the goal should be to intentionally try to remove it just to see how long it can hold on short of compounding (or maybe test that as well).
    Still love the video and it was interesting I like the idea but more than anything I would have been shocked if any of these had affected the coating.

    • @WaxMode

      Thanks Last Hope! I'm planning in the next test to pull out the Meguiar's Wheel Brightener at full strength, and then Optimum Power Clean and one of the iron removers that I have up on the shelf to see if we can cut through it any further with those. A lot of products have actually been pretty resistant against Wheel Brightener when they're fresh. So I might come out with a follow up video on this.
      Citrol I still haven't picked up yet, I think that was one that was just a bit out of budget, I blow through aerosol bottles really quick doing these tests, thankfully Super Clean actually reached out to me and sent me additional Super Clean aerosols after watching a few of my videos.

    • @groundcontrol6876
      @groundcontrol6876 4 года назад +1

      Last Hope The whole blowtorch thing is a little bit of a novel test more than anything. Our cars are never going to be subject to flames in the real world, and if they were, you’d have bigger things to worry about than if your coating survived or not. You’d either be looking at a panel replacement with a complete respray and then subsequent reapplication of ceramic anyway, or at a total loss of the vehicle. Brian from Apex Detail does do tests like that though, so you should check out his channel if that’s more what you’re into. Chemical resistance provides a closer “idea” to wether some product will be durable or not. Just leaving a black panel out to bake under the sun would be as hot as I would wanna get anything for testing purposes, since that’s about as hot as a car’s paint will ever get (with the engine running simultaneously). Other than that, I see no point going any further.

      If you’re implying the Ethos and Adams coatings are the same, that’s far from the truth. Adams blends their products with B&B blending while Ethos blends their products in house. Two completely different companies even though they’re both made in the US. Ethos was just recently made available in Canada so I’m sure Tim is working on getting his products to other places around the world as well.

      You never really know what you're going to get with chemical resistance, even with some strong coatings out there. I've seen some be pretty heavily etched and damaged with one pass with a degreaser, and others have held up perfect. This is definitely some strong stuff, I might continue the tests until it really starts to degrade and keep track of how many passes it takes with the different products and maybe do a follow up video on that.

    Also wanted to ask griots perfecting cream vs sonax Perfect finish, which do you like more to prep for a protection step?

    • @WaxMode
      @WaxMode  4 года назад

      I think Sonax Perfect Finish is one of the best abrasives on the market. The level of gloss from the glossmeter is top tier, although most finishing polishes are quite close to one another after jeweling the paint, Sonax is definitely able to reach the upper tier numbers consistently. And then the wipeoff is just easier, cleaner, and smoother than most, very competitive with low dusting, good cutting ability.
      Griot's Perfecting Cream, I think this is one to use if for whatever reason the Correcting Cream isn't finishing out quite as well with the specific paint type you're working on. I think Correcting Cream based on the numbers can finish out just as well as Perfecting Cream while providing more cut, so for one steps when I would need some cut without going too heavy, Correcting Cream is what I would be reaching for more often.
      Correcting Cream and Perfecting Cream are not quite as easy to wipe off compared to Perfect Finish, and the gloss numbers are not quite as high as well. It's close, in between 0.3-1.0GU gloss difference which isn't going to be eye noticeable, but that's what the numbers say. So this is one of the reasons why Perfect Finish is so consistently recommended. But for the price, the Griot's are still absolutely fantastic, but I would say the gems of the Griot's lineup are Fast Correcting Cream and Correcting Cream, rather than Perfecting Cream. The Griot's abrasives also smell great across the board to me, another reason why I like them.

    • @WaxMode
      @WaxMode  4 года назад

      Sometimes the etching from bird bombs can be pretty deep in the paint, so just depending on how severe it is, it could be easy to clean up with a one step or require some heavier compounding. Water spot deposits can be tackled with various spot removers, I've been using 3D Eraser Gel with good results, I've also got Gyeon WaterSpot and CarPro Spotless which can work on fresher deposits. But once the water spot has created actual etching, then this will require polishing and like the bird bomb etching it's going to depend on the severity of the etch to determine how aggressive you have to be to fully remove them.
      Most water spot etching I have to use at least a medium cut polish to really clean up, I would definitely look at both Griot's BOSS Fast Correcting Cream and Correcting Cream as polishing abrasives that are high quality and well priced if you're looking for recommendations.

I've got to check the date stamps, but I had the 16oz bottle of the Ceramic Wax Pro on the paint for a few months before I started topping it with Defy and Ceramic Refresh. CWP was still holding up by itself but it's not going to be a hydrophobic monster, so this is one that does prefer to be maintained regularly. Both Defy and Ceramic Refresh were able to really boost it back up and the boost with Ceramic Refresh was considerable.

    no prep all on the panel? :(

      I’m super super low on Prep-All, right now I’ve got Ceramic Matrix and Graphene Matrix side by side on the test panel in the process of running water spotting tests. Once I get done with that I may try hitting it with the last of the Prep-All and see how they hold up.

      Ethos has a Graphene based topping called Defy that can be used on maintenance washes.

    • @WaxMode
      @WaxMode  4 года назад +1

      As Christopher said, Ethos recommends their Defy right now as a maintenance topper to keep up on slickness and gloss for the Graphene Matrix, but I don't think Defy is graphene infused. Based on PapaSmurf918's results though he's topped Graphene Matrix with Defy and saw no negative result.

It was raining and road was slippery. The traffic light turned green for him and a truck coming from the left slipped. The car to his right basically protected him while they were crossing but still had the disadvantage of being in a motorcycle. He got broken right clavicle, fractures of right leg in 3 parts, both arms broken and shoulder dislocated and broken. He is lucky/blessed to be alive.

      I will soon order the Ethos Graphene coating first for my car. Obviously, living in Puerto Rico the application and flash will change from what you, PapaSmurf918 and the Brian's (Apex Detail and FAB Automotive Detailing) have experienced since our year long temperature is normally above 85 and above 75% humidity. This year, I uploaded a video on the Ethos site on the Interior Detailer(Humberto R) which I did in Spanish/English after my experience with the first oil change on my car at the dealer and what they sprayed in it(due to covid-19), so hope to load another one on my Graphene coating experience.

    Ethos or Adams graphene is the question!
    Apparently Ethos gets their formulation from Adams, so Adams graphene should be better right? They wouldn't give their competitor a superior formulation.
