    I'm partially through modding mine and waiting for some more switches to come in, but I started with the gateron browns as well. I'm mostly on glorious pandas now and did a simpler foam mod and it really did help. I still need to lube the stabilizers and I also intend to foam between the board and plate, but over all, it's so much nicer.

    As someone who just ordered a k6 and plan to mod it in the future, this is just what I was looking for. Thank you! Now I’m curious as to how much better those switches could sound with some lube applied. I feel like at this point of modding it’s probably a very minor difference

    • @WillJauregui

      In my other video, I lubed the banana split switches for my fiance's NK65, but I overdid it so they're super mushy lol I have another video coming soon with the replacement switches getting lubed, but they also feel kind of mushy even though I didn't lube them as much as much this time. So, I'm wondering if lubing is just not for me or if I would just prefer something thinner than Krytox 205g0

    I just got a k6... I'm getting some neoprene foam today which is why I came to this video, but as of right now, all I've done is put gateron yellows in, so when you said "it might also be because of the new switches" I tested my delete key, and I don't have any rattle as you had, Maybe they are pre-lubing the stabilizers better. thought you would find that interesting.

    Absolutely loved the video! Amazing work on really showing how it's done and was a real treat as a beginner to see it from your perspective on how to go about modding a keyboard. I just wanted to ask as to why you haven't replaced the keycaps on the fn1,fn2,ctrl, option and command keys? Is it purely for aesthetics or do the keycap set not have the 1u keycaps for that row? Thanks a bunch in advance and once again amazing video :)

    Try silicone it works way better than foam. It's what rama uses and the NK65 too. If you want. It's called a silicone mold making kit and you mix it and and pour it into the case and when it dries it pops out like a piece of rubber.

    • @WillJauregui

    • @WillJauregui
      @WillJauregui  3 года назад

      Tealios are nice and buttery smooth, but they’re pricey and you can get great linears for less, like the banana splits, and you really don’t even have to lube them, refer to my other video lol, for tactiles the purple zealios are great at 78g, and if you are heavy handed you’ll probably love that, but also pretty pricey, glorious pandas are pretty good tactile switches and if you want a higher spring weight you can get springs cheap from tx keyboards and switch them out, the key company has new tactiles, the dragonfruit switches, made with c3equalz just like the banana splits so I’m sure they’re pretty good too, and same as the glorious pandas you can switch the springs

    Great video, but Drop makes my skin crawl.

      Big agree on this one. Something about Drop's push into the mk market just irks me. All of their keyboards are objectively bad for the price, tbh. Lots of missing features that are present at lower price points, and nothing to make up for it.

      I figured that out after this lol, but it was convenient for getting some shine through keycaps shipped to me relatively quickly

    Love the initiative! But do consider swapping out the plastic casing, it will eliminate the hollow sound effect!

      Lets do some math here:
      K6 off of amazon, $75
      70x Zealios/Tealios 18/50 (Switches sold in packs of 10) $70 ($10 Per pack)
      Foam $5 prob
      Lube (If bought for just this) $15
      Drop Skylight: $45
      Time Spent: $priceless
      Total: $135 (Not too bad for a beginner board, this prob feels very high end)
      For reference, an entry board I made for a customer, with T1 tactiles lubed with tribosys 3204 and taihao caps with an NK65 was 300

    I'd love a KB like this:
    www.ashkeebs.com/product/gmk-polybius-keycaps/
    But can't find it.
    1) TKL 80% board like that.
    2) pre lubed, with nice switches
    3) volume knob.

      @WillJauregui  3 года назад

      thats the GMMK Pro: www.pcgamingrace.com/products/glorious-gmmk-pro-75-barebone-black-reservation
      but you need to get your own switches and keycaps

      @@WillJauregui Thank you for replying.
      Yes, I saw that GMMK Pro and was totally excited, was going to buy it, was in my cart, and then saw I needed switches etc.
      So I'm back to just wanting a TLK with a knob and nice switches.
      I guess it wouldn't be too hard to buy switches, plug them in, buy caps, put them on. I've put on caps before.
      Hey, maybe this is my chance to buy pre lubed switches and put them in with caps!
      Options.
