Today we unbox, review, and mod a solid budget mechanical keyboard - the Keychron K6. Not bad at all, with hotswap switches, RGB backlighting, and bluetooth wireless capabilities.

We are now that you’ve uploaded.
👌🏽
Hope the video is good as always
do you respond to ppl that came within the first 5 mins?
Thank you for the great video! I was contemplating on a K2 vs. K6 but was worried about painting aluminum and this seals the deal since my entire desktop is white themed and this was the only keyboard that offered bluetooth so I can use it for both my work laptop + personal desktop. I agree with you, while there are many great custom keyboards out there, they need to start adding bluetooth to their keyboards so people can use one keyboard for all. :)
Cool board! Might buy it now even though i dont need a new one HAHAHAHAH keep up the quality content!
TaeKeyboards you should do a custom wireless build soon :D
Good vid! what game are you playing at the end? is it on the mac? need some good games to play on my MacBook man!
That itzy sticker tho. :D
and that twci sticker on enter key.
This was the most boring yet utterly satisfying thing I ever saw in my life and now I'm convinced I need a mechanical keyboard.

@@ballsinurmouth-2 the most true comment 😂
please push them to create software for existing boards or CREATE a BRAND NEW qmk/via keyboard like they said they would.
edited for clarity.
They have plans for this
@@urabus986 yeah I realize that (as per their FB group), but they keep on delaying it since March. Just want a definitive answer or timeline
@@dracolnyte lol damn
@@dracolnyte I agree
Sorry to burst your bubble here, but they have also updated some time ago that qmk/via compatibility is unlikely for existing boards as it’s too much work to get it compatible. It’s more likely for them to release qmk/via compatible boards as new releases in late 2021
i've had this KB for about 6 months. RGB aluminum with browns, fully modded switches and stabs with the caribean caps from KBDfans. the caps let the RGB shine wonderfully. i also have foam and dynamatt in the case. i love this for my laptop when on the go.and it sounds and feels almost on par with my other 2 full custom keebs. my ex tried to steal it when i told her to kick rocks. would recommend to anyone new to the hobby
The gf steal qualification is a must
I just preordered mine. Out of stock and excited to get it and mod it with my new switches. Im new to keyboards and want to grow after this one. Glad there's good reviews.
umm dude, do you recommend any OEM keycap set for this keyboard for more RGB illumination?
@@_fiftyseven_ you mean like hyperx pudding keycaps?
@@monke5198 Hell yes!

everyone:focused on the keyboards

How long ago was that? It is so pain to watch.
@@stig585 it was during last year's Sakhir Gran Prix
@@djpotato9002 its so recent?
For the foam mod, you use the thicker piece from the bottom of the packaging and cut it down to size. Since the battery is on the upper left hand side, you'll need to add second layer of foam on the right side and narrow strip on the bottom so it's more consistent. I find using that foam does a better job of making the chassis sound less hollow.
UP NO MORE. MY GIRLS.
0:26 there's indomie package in there
Ayyyyy
Dang I'm eating indomie right now
I love how the stock stabs on a 100$ keyboard sound better than fully modded stabs on my drop ctrl
The stock stabs on a 50$ keyboard were better than one I spent 100$ on. I don’t get it either.
When I got mine, it was lubed and tape modded too which was surprising for the price
Aww ya look at me early in the comment section haha
nice! i use this board way more than i ever expected myself. the blue paint job looks very nice too, love to see customisation
I wont be cringe and say first, but what budget switch do you recommend for linear
Gateron yellows are the general recommendation. People recommend lubing them, but I haven't tried that, so maybe lubricate 1 switch, and decide if the time investment is worth it for you
0:25 indomie is one of my favourite instant noodles

Haha finally you covered this board, I have this with Tangerines and a PBT keycap set. Keep up the good work!
How did I get here?
Never watched a 'Keyboard Review' and it's on my start page 4 minutes after uploading.
Wasn't a bad idea to watch the video.
Call me a TaeKeyboards viewer :D
If somehow you're interested in mechs because of taekeyboards, you're gonna be in for deep mate
Welcome to the keyboard community :D now say goodbye to your bank account >:D

@@AbiRizky I remember getting recommended these videos about six months ago, 800$ later I'm wondering where all the time went lol
Welcome to paradise.
Love the Red Velvet Keycap bro. Great Job!
u naughty naughty u teasing me with the twice up no more. whens the twice mech releasing
the amount of ggs! I see you with the red velvet, bp, twice even itzy yooo~ also great vid as always! definitely gonna try and mod my K2s after seeing this!
gl!
Check the Keydous NJ68, it's being sold on AliExpress, it would be nice if you review that since it got 5 stars rating (or almost 5)
oh yeh i remember that. ordered one a while back, but covid got it cancelled lol
@@TaeKeyboards
It should be fine now for shipping, and btw, I got mine already, but I really want to hear your opinion. Please consider ordering it again if you don't mind, it's a really good value
I literally just bought this a few days ago. Love to see this review!
the rgb is not super bright, so if you are in a well lit space the rgb barely shows, not a game changer for me tho
I think you can squeeze even more Twice references on this video. Time to swap the typing test text with some Twice lyrics
the rv and twice decal though !!!
Nice video. Thank you. I watch a lot of your videos past week and decided to buy mechanical keyboard.
Just got this unit yesterday with brown switches. It's my first mech. And I think it's very loose and easy to press this keys after MacBook keyboard. Is it ok?))
I want to try lube my stabs and apply some foam inside. Ordered some Prematex Dielectric grease.
And I'm about to try some other type of switches. May be will get black gateron.
I did not expect the wireless connection to be that fast...
But i would have preferred that usb port at the top than at the side...
But still pretty good...
Because it was not problematic.
But wireless connection for Keychron are quite known for its problematic wireless.
I truly hate that key labeling where for example the "/" key that gets shifted to "?" code is just labeled "/ ?" I want an old school labeling where the shifted code is towards the upper left and the un-shifted key is as close to the centre of the keycap as possible. Is there a name for this new type of labeling that I can use as a filter to NOT show me keycap sets that are that way. I love the acrylic with black top pudding keys but I can't find any that DO NOT use this new style of labeling. I bought a Logitech K845 104 key backlit keyboard before I noticed that it has the new style of labeling. the K845 comes with Cherry MX Blue switches so I just have to find a keycap set that I like. The keyboard cost me under $100 CAD so a $50 CAD keycap set won't be an issue.
boo hoo
There is something I still don't understand about these mechanical keyboard reviews: Why bother using red switches if you are going to mash the keys to the bottom? Regardless of color, most reviewers bash those keys like they hate 'em... I mean ... if making a racket is you thing, fine. The sound we are getting here comes more from the resonances of the chassis, not so much the switches. With linear reds you could "just glide" over them without making a sound... Aaanyways! 🤷♂️
Would you recommend this over the Durgod K320 for the ability to hotswap to better switches? Planning on modding mine to Egro Clears but maybe something like swapping and testing linears as well is interesting to me.
Perfect timing! I just received mine yesterday! Any recommendations for key cap replacements that are shine through?
Been rocking my K4 for a few months now, absolutely love it still. Getting ready to pick up a V2 for the office comp.
I'm considering getting a K4, what switch option did you get?
12:50 good use with the EWO stickers! i have a lot of stickers from all my twice albums, maybe i’ll do the same when i get my own board :)
Was that alphatauri in the background?
Finally, a keeb youtuber I know talking about the newer Keychron boards. A lot if people just covered the K2 but I feel they’ve made a lot of improvements in recent months and now have some great value to them! Great vids as always Tae!
Love your work, have noticed that you are into F1 quite a bit so what teams do you support?
yup, love f1. i think for most people, we just like to see some sort of racing and someone else to be on the podium haha. but of course being australian, i support danny ric!
I might go back to a K6 after seeing this video, but they NEED to make a working software first.
lol damn, im guessing theyve mentioned the software quite a while back? and still haven't released :(
bunnings!!
i saw Blackpink, Itzy, Red Velvet and Twice... you're indeed a man of taste!!! lol
Hey cool more TaeKeyboards, seems like a cool board and a cool vid!
BUNNINGS WARE HOUSE where the prices are just the biggening
Mz60 vid when? it’s basically an upgraded gk61
Bro, your mod was absolutely amazing! Loved that blue finish.
Once this can be programmed with qmk/via they will fly off shelves as a cheap, easy, base mech keeb that people can afford and do a bunch of simple mods to customize. Honestly if it's programmable it might even kill the Drop Alt sales. Good thing they learned from their first round of keyboards cause those were just hot garbage. Especially with the flat bottom case design. Glad you called them out for it. Their marketing scheme is very influencer based.
Random question: what FPS game are you playing at the end of the video?
insurgency sandstorm :)
what typing test are you using? i see it in a lot of videos and i can never figure out what it is
it's called monkey type
up no moreee, once coming thruuu. awesome vid!!
Switched to K2 from MX Keys and it is better in every way except software (it doesn't exist) and BT (switch delay is little longer)
you got me at "K-whatever else"
LOL thought it was the vega in the picture
same same hehe
I miss when RGB would just light up the letters in the key caps. I used to have a ducky one TKL that did that. and Logitech's keyboards do that too I think... It looks so much cleaner than the rest in my opinion.
Just got the Keychron K6 and can confirm you can do that on the pre existing RGB options
Thanks for the review. Which silent switch would you put in this keyboard to maximize silence? Plus, what was the game at the end of the vid?
I have been using my K6 since released. Modded it with filmed and lubed Zealios V2 67g plus GMK Laser. 3 device bluetooth connection is my favorite feature. I could just switch between my PC, work laptop, and iPad Pro without a problem.
can you make a loona keyboard ?
I planned on getting one of those but ended up pre ordering the K3 because I feared this keyboard being too tall.
I got my K3 a few months ago, with brown optical switches and I'm really liking it, I only had a Drevo Gramr with red switches before and the apple magic keyboard so I'm not very well versed in the world of mechanical keyboards, but the K3 feels good enough for me, I work from 8am to 6pm monday thru friday as designer and I mostly use the keyboard for adobe software shortcuts and a few emails here and there, and it feels plenty good fort that, a pretty big step up from the Drevo Gramr and the Apple Magic Keyboard.
would you recommend this keyboard or the gk61 bluetooth?
Where can I get that majestic keycap puller
haha my fist one? bought it from ebay years ago.
Yay! Back to budget!
You should look into Loona
omg that blackpink keyboard...loona when
9:27 up no more :)))
I Wonder, if it is reccomended to try to make a custom wooden case, if i have never done any custom things to my keyboard? Like buying a plank and sawing it to the right size and screwing some standoffs?
definitely achievable. i've done it myself before :) no vid though
Great color you used for the frame painting. Could you please share the color code or any information on how to reach similar pantone?
You should take a look at the GK96 from Epomaker!
Would you say painting in a lighter colour would be doable? Been looking at this board for its price and the wireless and hotswap capabilities but I have a white setup.
for sure you can paint it white :)
ITZY @ 4:20 , you sir are a man of culture!
When i got my K6 and saw the switch puller I facepalmed so hard. If i didn't have another cheap one from another build I would've been so mad
Can you do modded key switches + stabs on this keyboard? Just out of curiosity
You can, considering the board is hotswap it should be quite easy to take out both switches and stabilizers
I'm programming since 2007
my first two keyboards were under $5 and they torn apart now as 3rd one I use a mechanical keyboard that serves well for the last couple of years
think about the nature
don't be wasteful
I bring my Keychron K6 to work, and my work area is dusty.
So how easy for dust to enter the switch ? Because I'm considering to lube the switch.
Great video as usual taeha
.
.
Joking of course. Always appreciate a budget build video and forgetting bags when going to woolies
The godly crib bilaterally subtract because goose affectively want but a damp jar. subsequent, watery basement
Would you choose this over the Anne Pro 2? Currently using the Anne Pro 2 and luckily I've had no problems with connectivity, but I'd really like to get an aluminum case and having the option for installing different switches later on is appealing.
please tell us where you get your wallpapers from!! also I love the use of F1 film going on in the background
Bought my first mechanical, Iqunix F96 Kat, feels amazing from apple magic, but bluetooth is intermittent on my Mac :(
Good stuff as usual, waiting on the software to use mine again need to change the caps to control
First offs: Thanks you Tae for the recent push of vids. I definitely missed the frequenfy during these trying times. TaeKB for 2021.
2ndly:
For those that may be curious, I always spray paint my tech with, and subsequently recommend, both the Montana Gold and Black spray can lines. Both are grounded in the graffiti and pro art world. In the US, visit your local art store, online shops, or, for some folks, your local Michael's craft chain store may carry (an extremely limited) stock.
yep, montana is also available here, but I have to order :( solid paints, and a great colour range :)
Would you consider covering the Epomaker GK96S (or the GK68XS) in a future Budget episode? :)
Wow this video came just in time!
I just put some foam inside my new keychron k2 version 2, like literally 30 min ago. I used the 3 mm foam with adhesive. Now I'm just waiting for my 205g0 to arrive. Kinda nervous since its my first mod.
What monitor arms u using??
They look pretty awesome.
uh just cheap generic ones off ebay or amazon, i can't even remember. got this one purely for aesthetics, but its a little wobbly.
Thx
What is the escape keycap that you used Tae
Just got my hands on the latest model and they have done a number of improvements to the keyboard. Solid purchase in 2022.
I really wish the aluminum framed hot swap version was available. I'm wondering if Keychron will eventually sell just the aluminum rails separately?
Definitely buying this keyboard after watching this review, I'm a Midzy too. My bias is Yeji 🥰
Even at 69$ (nice) Jeff still can't afford a mechanical keyboard
picked up a hot swappable k6 and some box jade’s. it’s such a great keyboard
One thing I like about this board is the bluetooth indicator isn't bright or annoying.
that RV escape key tho whewwww
Budget build baby!!!
What's that purple keyboard in the background? 😅
I have a K2 not hot-swap. Would love to try to mod it, but it seems scary without the hot-swap version.
Man was listening to some quality music right there👏
Looks great but I wish they'd release a 60% board, that extra row on the right of enter is just not nice.
They're starting to make V2 versions of their old keyboards, like their Keychron K2 and Keychron K4. If you can, you should revisit these keyboards and do an update!
I have the alu base, its great , but they lack of customization software
Please make a k8 video I really wanna see a good video from you and your thoughts and to see the mods
I see Twice :*
I am rocking K6 for almost a year now! Just swapped it with lubed & filmed gateron ink blacks, covered with some np pbt keycaps and foam modded. Absolutely love it and use it everyday with mac.
awesome mate! happy for you 🥰
