      Not a spoiler, but 1:35:22 - look up the name, look familiar? 😀Assuming you're relatively "well watched" of course.
      I wouldn't turn that DLC option on though. The better option is to use your brain instead.
      I've only seen it activated a couple of times out of many playthroughs I've watched. And you play better than many of them.

      @@ikelos8190 I think there are impacts on gameplay, but I'll discuss those post game to avoid spoilers. I'm giving my opinion, I'm in no position to "tell him what to do". I still wouldn't recommend turning it on in anticipation of it.

      what I recommend is that you don't turn on reduced frights at first, and if you really can't do it, then turn it on, at least that way the people that want you to play with it off won't be as disappointed from the get go as they should understand

    • @DigitalAcuity
      @DigitalAcuity Год назад +3

      Reduced frights kinda does change the gameplay as it alters the experience you ultimately end up getting. That said if you really cannot handle it, its better to have experienced the DLC than not at all. I also I think that message at the start just adds unnecessary anxiety all by itself.

      Yeah, even I have to admit that's just mind-boggling. I also found the Ash Twin Project as very last major discovery and once I figured out the exact process of activating the Vessel, I did a few loops worth of practices before doing it for real, got it on first try. To even think of doing it right off the bat is just flat out amazing.

    Such a great game and playthrough. I will literally never be over how well designed this game is and how it fits into the big ideas they're getting at. Like, most players (including me) assume for most of the game that the goal is to stop the sun from exploding, and the devs know you'll assume this - so you get the whole story buildup of learning the Nomai were trying to trigger a supernova, letting you think maybe you can turn off whatever they did and save everyone. Only to be slapped in the face with the realization that they weren't successful. You can't stop the sun from exploding because this is the death of the universe. You can't stop it, you never could have stopped it, you have no control over such massive cosmic forces, you are an insignificant grain of sand in the scope of the universe and nothing you do matters.
    And then at the end it turns around and says - no, what you did still mattered, the friends you made still mattered, the people who all died out millennia ago still mattered. Everything is going to die and it still mattered because you loved it. Aghh this game still makes me cry every time I see the end haha
    Thanks for playing through this, it was great fun to follow along each week, and can't wait for EotE.

    • @LukaelPlays
      @LukaelPlays  Год назад +9

      To be honest, I never thought there would be any way to stop the sun from exploding at any point in my playthrough, because like you said, it's such a massive cosmic event, that how could that be possible? I guess I'm not really sure what I was expecting other than hopefully understanding WHY it was happening.... but I really love how they did the ending. Thank you for following along!

    • @atheist101

      Not just that but you were needed to observe the end, it couldn't have happened without you there to see it. The universe needed someone to see the end and you were the one to do it. I cried like a baby at the end of this. Both because of what happened and that I'd never be able to experience this for the first time again.

    1:01:40 I can’t believe you noticed that! That’s amazing.
    This game is so unbelievably beautiful…the part that, thematically, brings it up to one of my favorite things ever is the way the ending recontextualizes everything that’s happened. It’s when you realize you aren’t the be-all and end-all of the universe. You’re just like the Nomai were to you: an ancient civilization thanks to whom somebody in the future will get to live on. It’s all in that line from the Tower of Quantum Trials that goes something like “You walk in the footsteps of those who came before, and pave the way for those who come after.” Absolutely masterful-and that’s on top of everything else it does so well.

    The blue/orange text thing isn't a big mystery, although I also didn't figure it out until someone explained it to me. Maybe spoilers if you really want to figure out all the technical details yourself, I guess, but I promise it isn't really a plot point or anything like that.
    The projection platforms let you see in real time across the solar system. What do you think the Nomai used them for? Why can projection stones be used both in those platforms, and on writing walls?
    Answer: the projection platforms were used essentially for Skype calls. The stones record conversations. Outgoing and incoming text are orange and blue, not necessarily in that order.
    Now you know.

    I like to think that the last song of the Travelers around a cozy campfire is the Universe's way of saying "I love you. I have always loved you. But it's time for something new, now. Just let me give you one last goodbye."
    Outer Wilds will always be my favorite game, I suspect. I'll play dozens more, but as you said, I doubt I'll find any other that can match this experience. It evokes such raw, profound emotion and offers a new outlook on.. just about everything really.

    There's some neat, but relatively inconsequential lore tidbits you (unsurprisingly) missed, as they are everywhere. When I first finished this game I went back and looked up the ones I missed to get them all just to do it. One I remember just stumbling on though was on Timber Hearth, some Nomai script at the bottom of some pool mentioning a creature that clearly eventually evolved in to the Hearthians. So many good tidbits everywhere.

    I hope you see this Lukael, as i want you to understand how much this playthrough means to people like me who long for the time when we hadn't played this game, so that we could experience it again for the first time. Truly a beautiful playthrough and i really appreciate how you understood the emotional weight behind the story of the Nomai and the lessons that the game is trying to tell. Thank you Lukael, I can not wait for another adventure in the DLC and even what comes after, i will stay for the journey as your overall positive outlook on games and life is something that is so special.
    My personal outlook on the lesson of Outer Wilds is that:
    "Impermanence is beautiful, and that's ok"
    The end was an extravagent light show of cosmic supernovas which was simply beautiful. However it leaves us to come to par with what we had just done and how deep down we don't want it to end. Outer wilds teachs us to understand that all good things must come to an end, "and that's ok."
    Despite being in a time loop, the end was inevitable. A simple hearthian with 4 eyes left to discover the fate of their universe.
    I'll say it again Lukael, Thank you.

    1:43:34 This point actually has new meaning to me now, that it didn't when i played the game in 2019, as i was recently diagnosed with Cancer, so "the end" or at least "my" end is has been brought to the forefront of my mind as of late.
    As for Echoes of the Eye, I don't think "scary" is the right word, id recommend trying it with reduced frights off, and if you feel uncomfortable turn it on later as the game was "intended" to be played with the option off. I confess, i turned it on late in my playthrough and i kind of regret doing so as it made my experience feel just that small amount less "authentic" to me.
    I really enjoyed watching your playthrough and will stick around to see you play more games, as i mentioned last week, The Forgotten City would be a great follow up to this. Thanks for providing some entertainment today.

    So, breakdown of open question that can be answered without DLC info (Spoilers for the main game, no spoilers for DLC)
    Minor non-spoiler things first:
    - Why did autopilot sometimes fails to get to Interloper? - OW's autopilot is very simple, and just records the speed of the target at the moment when you start the autopilot, matches it, and tries to fly the neccesary distance. But because Interloper's orbit is highly elliptical, it's speed is not the same across the orbit, as it gets closer to the sun, it moves faster. So, autopilot matches the slower speed, and then Interloper accelerates, which results in it smacking your ship face on from some angels, and autopilot completely missing it from others.
    - Anglerfish mechanics - The only thing that aggros them is the sound of the engines, either suit or ship, and only when that sound is above 1 division of the compass. Duration of the sound doesn't matter - pushing the joystick fully forward will aggro them instantly, while you can keep going at 1 division through whole Bramble and never have trouble. Also, Scount Launcher doesn't aggro the fishes, and can be used for movement - both suit and ship form give you a little push when you launch it (conservation of momentum), but because it's recalled via warp, there's no such push on retrival. So by repeatedly launching on recalling the probe, away from the direction you want to go can accelerate you. Can also be useful in places with high gravity as an additional boost to jetback (though not neccesary).
    More spoilery things:
    - Why did the Vessel crash? - Nomai jumped to the Eye signal without checking anything first, and instead of the Eye they jumped into Dark Bramble, because it was 'repeating' the signal the same way it makes duplicate signal of scouts, etc. Dark Bramble is weird by itself, and isn't connected to the broken warp core.
    - Why did the statue pair to you? - When you first wake up, it's the loop during which the probe cannon is going to find the Eye, but hasn't found it yet. While you go around the village, and get to Observatory, the probe reaches the Eye. When you go back, the Eye is found, and statues are activated, but everyone else already left the room. So when you enter, the statue pairs. At the same time, Gabbro is exploring the statue island again, and also pairs with the statue right outside the workshop door.
    - How Nomai were planning to survive? - For them, it would just be 22 minutes - they start the Sun Station, go on a few million loops without retaning memories, cannon finds the Eye, they disable the Sun Station, and it's as if nothing ever happened, and they found the Eye on the first try. The key thing is that they would be able stop the supernova by just telling the Sun Station not to fire.
    - Why couldn't you get to Interloper in Ep 7? - The Interloper is open when it passes close to the sun, and then refreezes again. It completes two sun-passes before getting swallowed, and you skipped the first one.
    - What's the deal with Interloper/Ghost matter - Inteloper arrive to the solar system about when Nomai have failed to fire the Sun Station, they immediately went to explore it, and found a rock full of ghost matter. As Interloper got closer to the sun, the rock exploded, covering the whole solar system in ghost matter, and Nomai were dead within hours of Interloper's arrival (at OW's toy space scale). The child in the village explains that ghost matter evoparates slowly, so over 300000 years, most of it has evaporated, leaving only a few pockets remaining. Hearthians could survive because they were fully aquatic species at the time (Riebeck tells you that if you tell him about the Interloper), and Ghost Matter is suppressed by water (never neccesary, but can be tested when Gabbro's Island goes underwater after a cyclone collision)
    - What's the deal with Supernovas - The stars just have gotten to their natural end of lifespan, and end in supernovas across the galaxy. The Interloper getting eaten has nothing to do with sun's explosion, it's a consequence of sun's expansion that causes it to cover Interloper's orbit
    - What's the deal with Solanum and the Moon - Solanum is dead in 5 out of 6 'possibilities' of the Quantum Moon, but survives at the Eye because it's far enough away that Ghost Matter never reached it. You can get unique ending by removing the warp core, and going to Solanum, replicating her 'feat'.

That "oh shit" moment when you yank out that warp core knowing full well that you're fucked if you don't make it in time is exhilerating. • @1lamafarmer
    @1lamafarmer Год назад +2

    I don't know how much more you've thought about this since finishing the game, but my theory is this:
    The Eye harnesses the power of consciousness itself as the spark, the catalyst, the inspiration for creating a new universe. It sends its signal out to summon a conscious observer who can take everything they know, everything they've learned from everyone they've met during their short time in the universe, and the eye uses all that lived experience to build the foundations for a new universe. That's why your friends are there with their instruments, because they are what matters to your character, and music is important to your culture. So you essentially use your friends' music to play the new universe into existence. That's why in the post-credits scene you see pine trees and a campfire, and creatures around it telling stories. (spoiler: something else also features in that scene after you do the DLC, because it's something else you've experienced that carries forward into the next one)

    By the way, at the end when searching for the banjo inside the house, the house like almost everything else there is quantum. It changed everything you lost sight of it, that's why you could enter at the end and couldn't before

  • @RpTheHotrod
    @RpTheHotrod Год назад

    This was a great watch. Thank you! Since you're done, some fun things. When you land on the quantum moon, her body is also quantum. If you look away and back, her body shifts into different positions. She is entangled with the moon, so she is both alive and dead, and only when you look at her does all of her possible places and states of being gets reduced to a single possibility. So she is in fact dead when you observe her body, but she is in fact alive when you observe her being alive. Also the skeletons near the cave shard does the same, their bodies change positions every time you look at them. The reason the cannon fires at a different direction is because it is programmed to fire at a random direction indefinitely until someone stops the project. The cannon fires, reports if it found the eye or not, and that information gets sent back into the past. The cannon then checks off that trajectory as attempted then fires with a new trajectory. It ended up finding the eye, but the nomai are no longer around to turn off the project. Essentially, the probe finds the eye on the loop you start the game in, the statues activate and pair with the closest person to them which just happened to be you and Gabbro. The reason the shiplog persists is because they said they used part of a statue in the ship design or something, so it also gets memories or something. Also, there are a couple of super cool in universe Easter eggs. I won't spoil them, but if you're interested, find them on youtube! One involves the high energy lab and the other involves the atp. The ending essentially has the eye using your memories to birth the new universe. If you never found solnanum on the quantum moon, she wouldn't be at the campfire since she wouldn't be in your memories. I like to imagine that the eye is a natural system reboot every few x amount of years, so someone billions of years ago made the same journey you did to create YOUR universe. Cheers!

    Solanum survived because of the superposition of the Quantum Moon. It existed in all six locations simultaneously at the moment the Interloper burst. On the HT, TH, BH, GD, and DB instances of the QM, Solanum was within reach of the ghost matter and died painfully and horribly. But on the EotU instance, she was safely out of range and survived. This is why she is alive only at the sixth location and is a dead corpse everywhere else.
    She got Schrödinger's Cat'd.

Nice work making it to the end of the game. Always fun to watch people discover it all over again. You have a very expressive face that's fun to watch.
    The part about how the probe fires in a different direction each loop also perplexes me. I just decided to think that when the data gets sent back in time, it's also programmed to fire in a different direction.

    I greatly appreciate how much you actually pay attention and think about what you are seeing in the game. When you pause the game and hypothesize what you think will happen is an excellent quality and the hallmark of a scientific mind! It was truly enjoyable to watch you play through this game.
    I strongly encourage you *not* to enable Reduced Frights for the Echoes of the Eye. Frankly, Mobius shot themselves in the foot by adding that because simply by adding it players begin to wonder “these assholes made DARK BRAMBLE and thought that was ok, what could they possible have made that is so scary they felt they need to add a warning for it!!?” And that kind of mental effect plays a much bigger role than the scares that actually occur in the DLC.

    Excellent playthrough dude, that was great, and I can't wait for the DLC!

      "The future is yet to be written" is actually an incredible way to sum up this game, I think of it as being about having hope that you can make a new world even as the old is dying, which I feel is pretty relevant to where we are in history, which does feel like a turning point. It reminds me of the slightly poetically translated Gramsci quote: "The old world is dying, and the new world struggles to be born: now is the time of monsters."

    But seeing you not actually connecting dots as you read the wall... And still going through with it. And even making through the Bramble in one go... and by using the long way too... crazy. I hope once you start DLC you'll facepalm over the fact that you could've marked the Vessel on your HUD.
    "Only once am I going to jump in there not knowing what's about to happen" he says. And you're right. Which is why you should've done DLC BEFORE grabbing the core. But alas.
    And yet another player joins "I still don't understand Quantum Objects despite being to the Quantum Moon" club. The Eye is Quantum, so Flashlight and turning away still works.
    Great reaction to Anglerfish by the way. I legit started backing away from it, before it caught up.
