WOW, what a great way to cut the wool by pulling it through the fabric, awesome!
Every little tip helps. There are hundreds more inside The Rug Hooking Journey: howtorughook.com
Thanks for answers for a new person. Have easy pattern and hook now need orange and black wool.
You can do this. Be sure to spend more time pulling loops than watching videos about pulling loops. Just do it.
Thank you for all your videos are always so great and very informative cheers Central Florida
Glad you like them!
I have a Bolivar cutter made in Bridgewater Nova Scotia Canada
That was a really popular cutter in the early 2000's. I was on the waiting list for about 4 years before I was contacted. By then I had 4 Rigby Double D cutters. I was able to have 8 blade sizes available all the time. When the Thownsend cutter came out, it was a no brainer. It is smaller than the Bolivar and I could have access to all the cut sizes, not just 3. At that time, the blades were permanently mounted and you could not change them out on the Bolivar.
Where do you get rings and the flexable white mesh for sorting / storing cut wool strips??? Love this idea!
You can buy them here: cindigayrughooking.com/product/ring-strip-sorters/
Can you please tell me if you cut a wool blanket, will it fray? Iβd like to sew a dog coat using an old wool blanket, but Iβm not sure whether it needs finishing (hemming) on a sewing machine or if I can just leave it the way it is, cut.
If you wash it first, it will shrink and the fibers will mesh together and it should not fray. That said, not all wool is created equal. It is possible it will fray especially if it is a blend with some other fiber.
@@rughooking , thank you for your quick response. The blanket I want to use is 100% Australian wool and it is quite densely woven. It has got to be at least 40 years old. It does have a few holes from months getting to it, but I can work around them. Itβs just such a beautiful blanket and I would love to upcycle it into a special little coat for my dog.
What kind of the clothe do you use ?
I prefer 100% wool fabric, as do most rug hookers. If you don't have that available, use what you have. Wool has the unique property that it does not get dirty. The dirt sits on the surface and just brushes off, making it the perfect fiber for rugs. Back in the day, the best carpets you could buy were made of wool.
Which one is the video on how you fold the wool after washing? I canβt find it π
It is in the Basics course inside The Rug Hooking Journey, howtorughook.com/trhj
The link above is how to join. I have thousands of hours of videos inside the membership. It includes replays from live lessons, courses and benefits such as early registration to lessons that often sell out.
Where I can get wool cutter.
My favorite cutter, the Beeline, is available through dealers. I recommend Dorr Mill Store. I don't recommend the long blades unless you are cutting thousands of strips for kits. Various cut sizes are often out of stock, so you have to buy them when you see them. If you end up on someone else's website, be sure to call to verify that the blades are in stock. Several dealers sell them even if they do not have the blades to ship out. You eventually get them but it could take months. Better to find a dealer who has the blades now.
