Pulling one loop will cause the others to pull down. If you pull a tail (first part of the wool strip) that will pull out the entire strand. Once the rug is finished I steam iron the entire rug front and back, this tightens the rug. Once the rug gets older the loops begin to be smashed down if used on the floor.

Great video! Thanks for sharing! Do you have a video on using the iPad for planning a rug design. Also do you have information on storing wool in a particular colour format (I’m a beginner who inherited/purchased a lot of wool fabric!).

Thanks for watching. I use the adobe sketch app on my iPad. I doodle and change colors until I get the look I'm after, I find it quite entertaining. Storing wool is up to the individual. I store my wool in 4 big hefty bins. I separate the bins by wool size rather than color. One bin may have 1/4 yard to 1 yard pieces and the last bin has small scrap pieces. I use to fold and have on a shelf by color, that proves to be far too much work when I'm color planning a rug. Now I just dig. :-)

How do you keep it from unraveling? Can they be washed?

The loops stay in place by being squeezed next to each other. The tails (ends of each strip of wool) get cut off and buried next to the loops. After I finish I steam iron and press both front and back of the rug. This also helps to join the wool fibers together.
Yes, the rugs can be washed in mild soapy water, rinse, lay flat or hang to dry. Wool is a great repellent of soil, I have not had to wash my rugs on the floor.

I draw my patterns in a sketchbook. When I look back at my drawings I take a picture and insert it into the adobe “sketch” app and play with colors.

My strips underneath gets twisted. Is there a over or under method around the hook, like in crochet?

Keep your strip of wool held in your underneath hand straight by pinching it close to the backing. When you insert your hook run it directly underneath the strip, hook it, and pull straight up. If you don't twist from underneath it should come up just as you held it underneath.
