      I feel you. Where i live it can hit 103°F air temp with 90% humidity and then -4°F in winter. Its tough working out in that all day. I dont miss being greasy and sweaty. Now i just get dirty and sweaty as a carpenter

    Those MCI's have a sound to them. NO coach has that sound. That sound is the sound of my childhood. My dad drove those MCI as auto and manual versions as a MSE OP in the Canadian military. a local international dealer still has one of those old military owned and decaled MCI in their back lot.
    Great videos and thanks for the trip down memory lane.

      @@BusGreaseMonkey I get that. But weren't those exact engines used in those buses? I'm NOT an expert on those buses or buses in general. Just that rumble when it was backing up. I remember that sound in the washrooms or in the back few seats when traveling down the highway.
      None the less. That sound is the sound of memories with my late dad. I spent the most time I ever did with my dad in those buses. And these videos connected me to him the most since he passed just over 7yrs ago now.
      For that. I thank you.

      A long time ago, I drove an '83 single-axle Ford L8000 that had a 6-71 in it. Those things are rated something like 238 hp, so after the parasitic losses of the powertrain, there wasn't all that much left to propel the tractor and a trailer. It would take a while, but eventually, you could get it up to 60 mph, it helped if you had a downhill stretch to give you some momentum, but as soon as the truck saw any form of uphill coming up, it would wimper and cry and start slowing down to unbearably slow speed, rather embarrassing to say the least. It was a gutless wonder on the road, but it was amazing how it started up with the lightest touch on the start button. Eventually, it became designated as a local truck, meaning it no longer got sent far from the yard, and a few years later, they stopped licensing and insuring it, and it became a yard shunt truck, not to leave the property. I must say, as long as you kept it in low range (the first five gears), it was the best setup for running trailers around the yard, in and out of the dock. That thing didn't care how heavy the loads were, until you put it into high range, then it fell to its' knees.

    • @Romans--bo7br
      @Romans--bo7br 5 лет назад

      @@stanpatterson5033.... What more would you expect from 426ci and an engine with slightly Less than 4" of usable power stroke and only a 4.25" bore??.... and if the gears were too "tall" for it, that would only compound the issue. Having said that, the venerable 6-71 can be "built" (and have been) to over 500 hp quite easily.

    • @Romans--bo7br
      @Romans--bo7br 5 лет назад

      Jimson brown... they will, as long as the rack, injectors and governor are all set correctly and in correct order.... and, if the static cr (compression ratio) is correct (18.7:1NA or 17:1 T/TA & TI) with no excessive wear on the pistons, rings, liners, and blower is "tight" and within specs.

    Those TA’s really don’t need a muffler. The turbo quiets the exhaust almost as well.
    You should get some 1” thick aluminum plate cut into 12” x 48” planks for jacking pads. Won’t bend and split like wood. Use them to spread the weight. Working on soft ground is too dangerous.
