Ophelia calling her adopted father, "Your Excellency," was part of her character arc. She started calling him, "father," at the end of chapter 1 because she had been slowly realizing how just much her adopted family had done for her
That's largely true, but in some cultures, like Japan, adopting a child is seen as an act of charity, and the adopted child is supposed to be more deferential to their adoptive parents than they would be in the West, so thinking of herself as part of the family might be overly presumptive. That said, Josef and Lianna do treat Ophilia as part of the family.
@@mortiphasm5597 that's funny you say that because it has been two years and I don't remember anything about octopath's story, writing this comment, or watching this video😂. People sure do change
Just going to add that Lianna helped her adopt to her new life and her real parents died during a war and was taken during a preschool age to elementary age so she would kinda know she's adopted in a sense not the way her parents died but the day she was took in. to be fair, Therion is mainly annoying because he’s the only character who can open purple chests. Don’t have Therion in your party when you’re running any dungeon? Ooops, gonna have to come back again with him for that purple chest! Either do yourself a favour and start with him and be stuck with hum all game, or stick him in your main party forever... besides, high level Therion means lots of stuff all over town at a lovely five finger discount with zero consequence. Thief’s an overall awesome job though, stick it on Olberic for easy challenging since you can infinitely heal and refresh your SP while still attacking tons all at once.
I went Therion first, and I actually got shit tonnes of use outta him. My team is H’aanit, Ophilia and Cyrus, because one heals, one semi-tank, a dps and a mage cuz why not and his SP steal and share is super useful if you’re low
@@noe4354 I got Octopath through Xbox Game Pass, so i'm super late on this, but TLDR:thief good late game class that has the best burst potential when it comes down to providing the entire team doing as physical damage as possible along with great self-sustainability and a way to give out excess resources to other characters in depth ability analysis: Shackle and Corrosive are busted when combined with buffs from either using warrior as a second job with abide and incite or primrose, as you get to maximize damage while mitigating damage taken, while having access to self healing. if you use a team that likes to spam Divine Skills or Cyrus' spells after immediately breaking you can use a debuff before the break to maximize damage or steal to maintain his own SP for divine skills or share it if he doesn't have enough bp but someone else does and needs the SP. Self healing is huge too especially as a second job for people like olberic who can focus damage towards himself when you don't want to waste a second job slot for a healer. I would say that Thief is more of an amazing late game secondary job option as it helps take care of all physical oriented bosses easily, while providing amazing synergy in most characters and entire team comps, but its poor early game growth cycle of having not only the worst set of base skills in steal and wildfire, but to slowly obtain job points to get to the actual good stuff and lack of strong support skills outside of fleetfoot definitely makes you want to get therion either as your first character to maximize usage of the highest speed growth in the game, with fleetfoot as a support skill to max his Divine Skill damage or to use steal(which is broken if you manage to scrutinize or inquire all the right people for thieving tips and tricks, you can get some of the best items along with sidequest items for free like this as a 100% or 80% chance) or as one of your last to be a secondary job option either as therion himself with one of the other classes or just his class as an amazing second.

Cyrus is my favorite. I found the thief shrine so now, he's also a thief... then I found this really powerful dagger, and now I can use ultra-powerful spells and then steal back all of the sp that I used. It's great.
The thing the game lacked was interactions between Travelers, while there are banters, I feel that it's not really enough. It's especially annoying when you're playing through Therion's story, he talks like he's doing things alone when there's three other people accompanying him.
i love therion honestly and it's entirely because of how good his english VA is hah i have a feeling if it werent for that id find him boring but his VA does an incredible job
:O whaaat??? that's WILD to me, i adore his voice! i feel like he has a very genuine-feeling tone? idk how else to describe it. he makes the character feel quite real to me in a way (i'm not super far into the game but if i had to pick a least favourite right now it'd have to be alfyn... he might grow on me though who knows)
Chris Niosi will always hold a part in my heart, due to his amazing animating and voice acting. The guy is insanely talented and he even made his own webseries a long time ago.
Love your nonchalant pose and camerawork. But even better - this list. It's exactly where I would place them, and also why my team is 8-5 on the list. I started with Alfyn and made my way clockwise. Really hated the game until I got those last three I needed (Tressa, Olberic, Primrose). Now it's been smooth sailing.
Me with Therion for my main; like honestly it doesn't make sense that he'd agree to help others at all. If he decides he needs some back up for getting the chaos- I mean the dragon stones, that's his terms, not some stranger deciding to join him on a sensitive heist. Also yeah he is anime lad and I love him for it
since the character's names spell out OCTOPATH when ordered a certain way, clearly the correct order is Ophilia/Olberic(either one probably), Cyrus, Therion/Tressa(either one probably), Ophilia/Olberic(the other one), Primrose, Alfyn, Therion/Tressa(the other one), and H'aanit. this also means that BDG's version of the game would be called Potahoct Traveler.
If you look at the map, OCTOPATH makes sense starting with Ophelia. The characters starting towns are arranged clockwise. I had a nice moment when I realised that
“I sincerely apologize if I called your favorite character annoying, even if it is objectively true.” I mean lots of annoying kids have friends. I’m a living testament to that.
Question: should I play all of the characters from MOST ANNOYING to Primrose to fully appreciate the non-annoying characters, or should I just play Primrose and stop there?
Play exclusively the rouge characters and then visit the tavern every 5 minutes because CYRUS IS APPARENTLY HORRIBLE AT GETTING INFO OUT OF PEOPLE, SERIOUSLY THERION IS STEALING STUFF AT 55% RELATIVELY CONSISTENTLY AND CYRUS CANT PULL OF AN 84% INTEREGATION AFTER LIKE 3 TRIES but I still love him because level requirement is annoying and who likes paying for anything except to clear your rep
"go to h'aanit first and then go to therion" thats actually what i did, and then wished i picked therion first because h'aanits dialogue is so annoying. i had no issue with therion whatsoever 😅

Consider my pet peeve peeved. She is definitely not speaking old english, I can almost guarantee you would not understand a word of what she said if she did.
I mean that's kind of my point. Its like someone who only just heard of Old English tried to make a character that speaks exclusively in it.
Woulde'st thou carest to explainth thy thoughts?
@@Markpichot it doesn't really matter which type of english it is because it isn't an accurate dialect at all. it's an overdone impression of one by someone only vaguely familiar with any pre-modern english stylings
Personally I love Therion. His voice acting is great, his skills are awesome, and I like his story.
This comment is so under rated. Therion is the goat
1) I am an (arrogant) masterthief, the most skilled in the world and people know me, and im also very skilled in combat.
2) A rich mansion owner sets up insane guards etc to secretely lure in thieves that assume they have large treasure
3) ofc i go there and reach the "treasure"...its one blue dragonstone out of 4, the others are missing
4) the butler appears and beats me and puts a lock on my arm
5) the owner explains to me they lured a skilled thief on purpose so the thief can find the other remaining 3 stones, the butler found the blue one already, and if i find them, they will remove the "shameful" lock on my arm
WHAT KIND OF STUPID STORY IS THIS???
1) If the butler already could get one and he is as skilled as i am, then let him go get the others?
2) why do i care about a stupid band on my arm so much, that i travel half the world for their stupid stones??
3) why do i just not remove it myself, and im a masterthief, it should be easy to remove it...ffs...or at least steal the method to open it from the butler
4) who stops me from just stealing the stones for myself, surely they are worth more than the burden of having the lock on my arm...
5) why do they waste so much money on guards (half an army!!), instead of just buying their way into the stones...or straight up buy the talent after a competition, no need for shady stuff
6) why am i being submissive to them, and actually travelling half the world, exposing myself to all this danger, without payment or reward, instead of overthrowing them?
same!
Ngl I expected this game to be about an octopus or something
shaduf ngl I would play the shit out of Octopus Traveller.
Sorry for the swear.
ShortStack Splatoon 2 Octo Expansion
Trafalgar Law I love ur icon please share the source
Trafalgar Law so its not cropped porn? :( Thanks anyway tho
Hey guys, did you know other words start with octo? Just thought i'd post
*silence in Lou Bega* lmao. thank you for providing closed captions and adding in little easter eggs like that.
I think Alfyn has the overall best lines.
Cyrus is my favorite. I found the thief shrine so now, he's also a thief... then I found this really powerful dagger, and now I can use ultra-powerful spells and then steal back all of the sp that I used. It's great.
2:22 That’s Early Modern English Brian get your facts straight.

The thing the game lacked was interactions between Travelers, while there are banters, I feel that it's not really enough. It's especially annoying when you're playing through Therion's story, he talks like he's doing things alone when there's three other people accompanying him.
Not gonna lie, Olberic's description was spot on and had me laughing.
Therion's Japanese voice is voiced by the same person who voiced Sword Art Online Kirito...he is an Anime Character!
Well that explains a lot...
Chances are all the Japanese voice actors have done anime before, right?
i love therion honestly and it's entirely because of how good his english VA is hah i have a feeling if it werent for that id find him boring but his VA does an incredible job
fizzycolalizzie i agree, but somehow Therion is the only one who's voice I've seen hate on :/
:O whaaat??? that's WILD to me, i adore his voice! i feel like he has a very genuine-feeling tone? idk how else to describe it. he makes the character feel quite real to me in a way
(i'm not super far into the game but if i had to pick a least favourite right now it'd have to be alfyn... he might grow on me though who knows)
His VA has a youtube channel, it's Chris Niosi
Chris Niosi will always hold a part in my heart, due to his amazing animating and voice acting. The guy is insanely talented and he even made his own webseries a long time ago.
juan francisco robles araiza 2 de la manguera cecilio 3,carlos 6 It ended years ago, but there's a game being made for it. Funded by Kickstarter.
Brian looks like American James Veitch.
Olberic may only be #7 in annoying but he's definitely #1 in boring
Rob Beecher my thoughts exactly
i honestly had to force myself not to skip through his scenes
I was thinking that, until the cutscene before the Lizard King fight.
I wanted to bash my head into a rock around the fourth time that he asked why he wielded his sword
paula I thought his story was very well done
That man could tell me anything while lying on that couch and I would listen.
I like how casual this whole video was, just hanging with my sweet boy in his living room
"Anyway here's the whole pokerap' Part 2
Me with Therion for my main; like honestly it doesn't make sense that he'd agree to help others at all. If he decides he needs some back up for getting the chaos- I mean the dragon stones, that's his terms, not some stranger deciding to join him on a sensitive heist.
Also yeah he is anime lad and I love him for it
I started with therion and after finishing all 8 first chapters he’s still my favorite
Fun fact if you put all the main characters first name together in order it spells Octopath
Seriously referred to Therion as an anime protagonist throughout my entire playthrough cause seriously, he is.
since the character's names spell out OCTOPATH when ordered a certain way, clearly the correct order is Ophilia/Olberic(either one probably), Cyrus, Therion/Tressa(either one probably), Ophilia/Olberic(the other one), Primrose, Alfyn, Therion/Tressa(the other one), and H'aanit.
this also means that BDG's version of the game would be called Potahoct Traveler.
If you look at the map, OCTOPATH makes sense starting with Ophelia. The characters starting towns are arranged clockwise. I had a nice moment when I realised that
Definitely going with Alfyn. How can I be annoyed by Greg Chun's voice? If there were something to turn me gay, that would be it.
That line about the coach-history teacher...so so true. That was the case in mine. 🤣🤣🤣
Cyrus best boy
Lmao the fact that the 4 most annoying is my primary team
Therion was my first choice 😅
lol love the captions at 2:27
BDG: Do you have anything to say?
Zuko: *i should get paid more for my appearances*
primrose is a bisexual icon
A family can have many forms, like a Pokémon trainer, her vengeful dancing girlfriend, an aromantic nerd and their merchant daughter.
*Booksexual*
he's gay
@@dmontes4476 Whatever he is, he's not very good at it
Bruh have you seen some of the Ophilia and Haanit travel banters?
Going back and watching old bgd polygon vids just to feel something
“I sincerely apologize if I called your favorite character annoying, even if it is objectively true.” I mean lots of annoying kids have friends. I’m a living testament to that.
When this list in reverse is exactly how I played the characters
"Go to H'aanit first, and then go to Therion."
That's what I did!
The weird, rushed, awkward enthusiasm of these kinds of videos you guys make is so funny to me. You guys always get me to laugh.
some of these descriptions/metaphors are so detailed,,,, who hurt u,,,,,
Why does this feel so much like a quarantine video
Question: should I play all of the characters from MOST ANNOYING to Primrose to fully appreciate the non-annoying characters, or should I just play Primrose and stop there?
Brock McKelvey play ophelia.
None of them are really annoying.
I periodically come back to this video just to hear you sing Mambo #5 to me.
I thought Therion was kinda cool xD I just steal everyone's items
Between this and Week in Revue, Brian is a genius at coming up with ways to blend the “Normal Videogame Website” and “Weird” sides of Polygon
"go to h'aanit first and then go to therion"
thats actually what i did, and then wished i picked therion first because h'aanits dialogue is so annoying. i had no issue with therion whatsoever 😅
This is like a pilot episode of Unraveled and I love it
I knew Therion would be 1 😂
He’s my favorite character 😂
i can't believe my first introduction to bdg was him calling my favorite character the most annoying one
We know you like Naruto, Therion. Don't front.
I started with Ophilia don't regret it one bit. The music in Flamesgrace, and the Frost Lands were such a treat for my ears.
I chose therion as my main.
This is probably my favourite video this year. Pure gold.
Brian makes objectively good content and choices.
This is the best octopath related content ive seen on youtube so far. Bless
Oh my gooood look at that cute little cowcat!!!
Also fun video but CAT
Always looking for a bargain!
I chose Therion first and have no regrets
(I love it!)
i watched this after playing it, and legit STARTED with Therion, then Ha'aanit, Ophelia and then cyrus... i'm sorry brian...
While you do that, I'm silently judging your board game collection.
Based Primrose getting the respect she deserves
Love the idea of someone doing this laying on there couch with a microphone
