Following up on the body of the laptop. I agree that the flex I felt is because of the way the monitor is hooked into the body of the laptop and the actual body doesn't flex that much. However personally if the whole thing flexes when I'm using it, it doesn't matter how it flexes. Plus while the body might not actually be plastic, it certainly still has a cheap plastic texture. Don't get me wrong though, I absolutely love this laptop and if this had come out a few months ago it would have made my best laptop of 2020 list a lot harder to decide. This is definitely up there with one of my favorite windows laptops of all time.
I got my order in the mail earlier day at the time of this comment. I think the problem you had with the initial powering on is possibly isolated. I was able to turn mine on without issue.
The body is a magnesium alloy, it's not as sturdy as aluminium such as on MacBooks but it is significantly lighter. This gaming laptop prioritizes portability over raw, all-out build quality and the materials used help keep it under 1.7kgs of weight. It's certainly much more rigid than plastic and should hold up pretty well. The plastic texture might be because magnesium alloys are softer than aluminium alloys - however they can withstand much more stress and are actually more durable!

04:07 - oh, you got those all wrong 😂 The top is fully aluminum, and the rest of the laptop is a magnesium alloy (I don't know if the bottom is tho, but it's not aluminum for sure), which kinda feels like plastic but it's a metal alloy, it's much lighter than aluminum that's why more laptops, especially ultrabooks like the LG Gram are starting to use it to save weight. It's also more expensive to make than aluminum, but feels cheaper because it doesn't have that "cold feel" of aluminum, that's why Apple for example avoids it. Magnesium alloy is also a lot more flexible than aluminum (much better durability especially against scratches and bents), and this flexibility together with the lack of "cold feel" from magnesium alloy is why most people confuse it easily for a "very high quality and hard plastic" (quoting other reviews). So yea the G14 has very expensive build materials, but feels cheaper than it should - magnesium alloy in a nutshell, superior material that feels inferior to the average user 🥲

The screen is still the weak point of this series, I wish it was a little brighter, had a wider gamut, was less flexy, and less prone to backlight bleed.
Finally decided on this as my work/lab laptop. I've got an Omen 17 which can do what I need, but with the cable/brick it's pushing 9lbs. That's the reason it might not be turning on as mine didn't too but I charged it completely before turning it on and it worked just fine. Also I got slightly crooked stickers which bothers me a bit just like you. Also no WINDOWS sticker at the bottom like the previous G14 (Mine is manufactured in 2021)

The little plastic thing isn't broke it attaches to one of the bottom screws... I bet you had issues getting one of the screws out thats because that screw had that plastic inside the case bottom so when you unscrew it it acts like a pry tool and lets you open the laptop a lot easier.
I have mixed feelings about Asus nowadays. On one hand, I had an excellent warranty service experience last month. They did a motherboard exchange because the wifi wasn't working, and the machine (UX562FD) was back in just a week. On the other hand, the cheap materials and the soldered on memory on the new models are really disappointing. Also, the hot air blowing directly on to the bottom of the screen surely doesn't help the cooling efficiency, and may damage the screen. I'm on my UX360CA now (no moving parts ftw), but I'm on the lookout for a 15 inch for my next laptop, and I tell you, if they sold the UX360CA with a quality 15' 16:10 screen, it would be the perfect one for me. I mean the computing capacity of a 4 year old Intel Y processor is perfectly adequate for the things I use it for.
I wonder if they fixed the display on the 2020 G14 models. Those displays were 120Hz refresh rate with a response time of 20ms which is terrible for gaming. Is this a 60W 3060?
I got one of these "bad boy's" with the RTX2060 inside with the first gen, last year happy in the knowledge that the AMD Ryzen CPU and Nvidia GPU were a killer combo in a beautiful case. i feel like the reason the keyboard itself isn't any other material because of how hot it can get which could make the whole keyboard hot which wouldn't feel pleasant.
uh-oh...is that an exhaust vent I see pointing right at the bottom of the screen? Apple had an issue with a few model years of its macbooks where hot exhaust melted the glue on the lower edge of the screen, allowing a display cable to come loose. I hope this laptop doesn't have a similar problem...

When the second had the same issues, I returned it and purchased the 2020 model which we already have and it worked out of the box. Reading the new CPU does have Bios issues etc.
In the Official Site Rog mentioned that there would a Camera bundle in the Box. 1080p 60fps.....but its missing in your unboxing . Can someone clarify if we get that external camera or not?

I have last years g14 and it looks like they used the same box, it's pretty big since the model last year came with 2 chargers, a regular powerbrick and a usb c charger, also came with a mouse and webcam on some variants
This thing is amazing for the value! Slightly smaller but compact enough. Updated...nice enough display and fairly bright. Has all the specs to run pretty good games. Not sure if the processor matters when downloading/installing, but flight simulator 2020 is downloading at an average of 60mbps even typing 75 at times.....which is like 1000x better than the 4mbps on my non gaming laptop. This laptop is definitely nice value! The keyboard is good. But I will need to get used to its layout as it doesn't have a side numpad and the keyboard is slightly smaller...but it's awesome!
i know this is a year old comment but that is probably your hard drive write speed bottlenecking you on your non gaming laptop. The ssd in the asus is allowing it to nonstop write while downloading.
Definitely interested to see how it holds up as a daily driver and for content creation (video, photo editing). Need to upgrade from my dead 5 year old Razer Blade Stealth.
Would appreciate it in use, I'm kind of a OCD type of guy when it comes to sound, fan noise, heating etc etc so that would be important if I were to buy one.
Bought my g15. Presentation makes me want to stay with asus line of gaming laptops. So beautifully presented like they give a crap about you buying their product. Will say I turned off boost clock when on battery, I have an issue with the exhaust but then again when on battery the fans never turn on so when I game I usually hook it up the an external monitor anyway and it's in closed configuration so the exhaust is properly pushing air out.

Did you check the battery after it turned on? Maybe you had the battery fully discharged and it needed some time to charge enough to turn on?
I think that the 14 inch is a bit smaller for my preference, but I look forward for the g15 review as i plan on buying that. Hope you review that laptop and i wait in excitement! The g14 is a killer, but i want to see the g15 too for the comparison. Thanks for the content and I look forward!
Is this a new one? how is it different from last year's G14?
I’m gonna check your vids to see if u did the 40GB upgrade.
Thanks for explaining that the sensor is the power button
I have last years g14 and it looks like they used the same box, it's pretty big since the model last year came with 2 chargers, a regular powerbrick and a usb c charger, also came with a mouse and webcam on some variants
I just got last year’s model yesterday
Michael do you think it’s worth getting the new version for $300 more? Or na
@@phk1498 if you are getting the top end model, yes get the new one
what microphone are you using?
I-gpu mode ( when 3060 is not working ) do a little heavy work the battery runs out in 1.5 - 2 hrs so be advised.
Does this version of the g14 have the anime matrix
no
I bet he removed the battery. That is normal boot process when I did the same thing:)
I wanna see the upgrade video , and videos about it's performance on gaming and of course video editing. I am counting on you
The laptop wouldn’t turn on for me and I just clicked the trackpad and the screen came on
Loved the video I’ve been thinking of buying the g14 or the g15 with a 3060 which one would you recommend?
G15
Definitely interested to see how it holds up as a daily driver and for content creation (video, photo editing). Need to upgrade from my dead 5 year old Razer Blade Stealth.
I'm very interested in that too.
How bright is that screen in nits from best buy? The reps have said 500 nits but I don't believe it.
It would be good to look at your comments and expression on "hp envy 15"
Err why do u keep saying “this is plastic”? It’s not plastic, it’s Magnesium Alloy.
cant find the same processor! :(
even asus official website showing only ryzen 9 4000 series
Would appreciate it in use, I'm kind of a OCD type of guy when it comes to sound, fan noise, heating etc etc so that would be important if I were to buy one.
Bought my g15. Presentation makes me want to stay with asus line of gaming laptops. So beautifully presented like they give a crap about you buying their product.
Will say I turned off boost clock when on battery, I have an issue with the exhaust but then again when on battery the fans never turn on so when I game I usually hook it up the an external monitor anyway and it's in closed configuration so the exhaust is properly pushing air out.
Hey the Everyday Dad did you ever get a G14 with the AniMe Matrix display and what are your thoughts on it?
Plz be more gentle with this beauty if i could have that even didnt touch that without soft cloth gloves ....you make me sick with this harsh moves on this precious machine...this is my dream laptop that i never cant afford😫😫😫
Hey there could be reasons why you can’t do this, but can you please do a review on one of the asus Zenbook duo series.
-Thanks
Hello bud! When can we expect some gpu and cpu tests? The fps in games 1080p and 1440p? Thanks for the review. Liked and subscribed!
Can I know the source of that wallpaper in that g14 present in the thumbnail of this video
That screen flexibilty... scared me a lot...
What’s the response rate, I’ve heard both 3 and 20 ms and I want to get it straight since I may buy this model
My G15 that i got from bestbuy the 3070 model had a problem where it would stay on a black screen and wouldnt turn off. Had to remove the battery to turn it back on and reboot it. Had to return it ):
I'll have to look into that thanks!
What made you get this instead of the 2021 Asus Zephyrus G15?
It was in stock.
you forgot to showoff the laptop's anime matrix
Hey Ted! I was wondering if I should get the MacBook Pro 16 or the m1 13 inch, I edit with davinci resolve!
do you recommend this for a software engineering student
I have the lower variant of this laptop and it's a beast for its size and price. Can't wait for your follow up videos on this beast to see your thoughts 😁😁
Yeah I'm very impressed with what they were able to put it this small laptop.
