- One of the local card rooms reached out to me about playing in a $1/3 No-Limit Texas Hold'em live stream. Since I've only been playing $1/2, I decided to give $1/3 a shot to see how different the game is. We go into it with a plan to be aggressive, and we run pretty well for the most part, picking up pocket kings four times and pocket queens twice!

Where are you
I took at shot at 1/3 at The Lodge and bought in for $1000. Won $2000 that night. Went back the next night and played 1/3 again and won $2000 the second night. I left up $4000 for the two days and have not played 1/3 again. I stick to 1/2 99% of time. Love your channel.

Nice job riding those highs and lows.
The new frame setup is nice and clean. The only issue is centering for the pot and board cards frame is off. Unless its set that way to allow for it to stretch to the right.
Hey, thanks for the feedback! I'm not sure what you mean about the pot & board cards frame being off. Are you talking about the player's cards? I intentionally left room to the right there so that I can represent Omaha hands as well as Texas Hold'em hands.
Q. Why are you opening hands like QJ off and 10/8 ? Especially in early position, let alone when you’re short? Is that your standard strategy or are you opening up for the vlog?

Good question. What's not shown in these vlogs are the many hands I'm folding, and most of the time I do fold those types of hands in early position. I mix some of these hands in so that my range is not 100% predictable though, and I made a more conscious effort for this session in particular to be more aggressive in general as I tried the new stakes.
In terms of being short, although I'm much shorter stacked than the other opponents at the table, I normally buy into $1/2 for 100-150 big blinds. The same number of BB's at $1/3 would be $300-450, and my stack was within that range for both the T8s & QJo hands, so I wouldn't agree that I was short, even if I had a shorter stack than my opponents.
Played poker today, didn’t get anything above pocket tens. How envious I am of lucky players. Good work.
I definitely ran well this session with my starting hands. I think variance is paying me back for the 3 months where I only got aces once. 😅

Hey man, I appreciate the feedback and encouragement for the livestream! I'm waiting to hear back at this point, though I may also reach out to another venue about the possibility there too.
I use DaVinci Resolve for my graphics. I specifically built these overlays using some more advanced functionality in their Fusion tool, which is really powerful. I've got some macros that let me quickly throw in details of the hands (e.g.: "AcQs") and it'll convert to the appropriate suits/colors, as well as including details around pot size, player names, etc. It was pretty time consuming, but I can reuse that over and over now that it's done.
I can't find any of the livestreams this player was in at the moment, but I'll take a look again later and see if I can figure out what his name is.
Also, I actually had pocket kings 4 times, not 3. Also queens twice. Definitely a dream session in terms of hands I was dealt!
@@HuggiePoker oh ok. I use photoshop to make all of my graphics- that’s THE MOST time consuming part of my vlog is the graphics. Each action has to be inputted and exported as a GIF. Then I lay it all out in Adobe premiere to edit everything together. I may have to check resolve out.

@@7CardFlushPoker Yeah, that level of editing is what I was worried about when I started the vlog. I'm a software developer and like to automate things, which is why I went down that path.

Man your vids are awesome. I'm about to try and play my first 1-3 nl at my local casino, and have been very nervous cause I don't know their rules but once I go ill find out everything they're no help over the phone. I've been learning a lot from you waiting for your next vid
Thanks Edward, I appreciate you saying that! Have you played live poker at different stakes, or have you played at a home game before? One thing I will mention if you've never played before is that I've been on a hot streak lately, and I don't want to glorify the game since I've had some losing streaks as well. (Check out some of my older vlogs.)
With regards to not knowing the rules, If you ever have a question, you can ask the dealer, granted they can't answer some questions during the middle of a hand. The biggest advice I'd give is to verbally declare whatever action you want to make (bet/raise/fold as well as the size of the bet/raise), that way it's completely clear what your intention is. Many mistakes I see relate to intention of action because it's not verbalized.

@@HuggiePoker Man I appreciate your reply, and this is going to be my first time at a casino but I've played many times at home casually lol. It's just gonna be weird due to it being people I don't know. But other than that I think I'll be fine. It's just over the phone when I ask about any specific rules on the tables they always say to just come in and they'll explain. That's why they aren't really much help. I can't wait for your next vid though keep up the grind!!💯
@@edward3647 Yeah, I got you. Most people at the tables are friendly and will be helpful, granted they'll still be trying to win your money lol. Don't fret it, just go and have fun, maybe plan to buy in for the minimum at first w/ extra to buy in for more once you're comfortable. If you do that, I'd just play pretty tight being a short stack is all.

Hey Huggie, how do you remember all the hands to review? Are you just capturing it on video as well? Ive thought about blogging some of my poker sessions but I have terrible fish memory!
Hey there! I just use my phone to capture all the action, then I transcribe it later. I use an app called Quick Video Recorder, which records videos in the background (i.e.: doesn't show the video on the screen). I tap an icon on phone to start record, then tap it again to stop.
Most dealers are good about verbally announcing the bet sizes and action, which is helpful. I also pick up my phone to record things as needed (e.g.: the board, opponents' hands, etc), typically at the end of a hand.
I end up with one video per hand at the end of a session. I usually go through these to find the largest files first, which are likely to be the hands with the most interesting action. But I also end up going through the other clips too since. I can track changes to my stack size changes in small uninteresting hands as well.

Quick question. What did you do to build your poker bankroll before playing poker?
I'm a software developer. I just took about $300 to get started, and fortunately had enough winning sessions up front that that's all that was needed.
When the guy says he is gonna crack your aces, an ace hits the board. And he bets. You fold.....

Did the 1/3 play as expected? More aggressive than 1/2?
I would say it was about half and half. Some players were more aggressive, others played like what I'd expect at 1/2.

1-2 1-3 is practically the same thing with one more dollar in the pot preflop lol the game plays good only depends on the players at the table do you have a bunch of nits or players looking for action I learn the blind level does not matter it only matters on the players sitting down...
I think it might depend on the card room, since some places only run one or the other. My room runs both, and although I only have a sample size of one game, I found half the players to play like 1/2 normally does, with the other half of the players to be more aggressive.
You will definitely be a losing player if you are tipping 3-6 every hand in these tiny stakes.
You're probably right that I tip too much on some hands. I will say that poker is not my job though, so I'm not relying on the income and don't have to fret it too much.

Just a suggestion especially for lower stakes. Only tip dealers at the change, it's more consistent and over all cheaper and fairer.
I mean you do you but the fact is tips aren't a thing except to people who have too much money and under pay already.
In some societies it is considered an insult to tip because it presumes either you didn't pay fair value or you got/expect extra.
I have no idea why players think tipping is mandatory. Pay fair price to play and the dealers should be paid fairly as well.
I don't tip at the grocery store, the gas station, the hospital, the DMV, I don't stop and tip road workers or city workers or the guy mowing a yard. Why are you tipping a dealer for dealing cards to you but only when you win? Does he give you a rebate when you lose?
I want good dealers, I don't have a ton of options as to where I play, what they pay or who they hire. I hate tipping bad dealer or feeling I'm obligated to tip anyone.
You're paying to play one way or another, you risk losing money. Tipping a blind or two every win really does subtract from your winning.
The positive is the tips get better with stakes and vary from game to game. Better tipped games become sought after by dealers and might get the better dealers.
No matter how good you run or how well you play money taken off the table can't be won. How often do you get tipped at work for doing the job you hired on for?

Just a small bump from $1/2. Not all card rooms run both games, but mine does, so there was some differences I found between the two games.
Why show the QQ when tjey fold.
Mostly just to show I wasn't bullshitting. I don't often show without showdown, but I had been raising a lot of hands immediately after sitting down, and I wanted my raises to maintain some respect.
The 888K choped pot. Why didn't you just check down, you couldn't call a reaise all in, granted a chop was most likely a k would call regardless....could have been bad
Maybe, but I think it's better to bet/fold here than to check back a winner when someone could definitely call a bet with worse.
stop showing your cards if you dont have to. The only time you want to show without a showdown win is a bluff before you are getting ready to leave to try and set up that big hand.
