I just learned this type of racing format. But I have a question. If I race a slower class car, how do I win if there's faster class car? Are we just gonna be compared with the same class?
I am currently on a path to racing for a career and I just went through the SCCA racing school to get my license and I think the biggest thing it taught me was awareness because of being in a Miata and there were cars that were built to go faster it made me learn how to be aware of my surroundings and I can definitely apply that to endurance racing and multi class racing in the future. and this video was a massive help as well.
this was great, just confirmed my self thought, and hours of watching endurance and other forms of multiclass racing that the way i am doing it is right, the lift, cost and setting up the exit have given me many overtakes, and safed some fuel. Now i have something to share when slower/faster cars just throws themselves into bad positions, or does some other "shenanigan's" aka deer in the headlight moves....
Sound advice Daniel. I haven't done any multi class races but the GT3 league I drive in has some very fast guys and I'm the slowest on track so it feels like a multi class race. I sometimes pull off the racing line to let the faster guys have it even though I know I shouldn't but it's a bad habit I have. I will try to just stick to my line in future and make them go round me unless I have a slowdown of course. Loving the videos.
If you do it early enough and move out of the way, at least it’s predictable. You just don’t want to run into a situation where you were doing something where the other driver has to guess what’s happening?
Got a multi-class league starting up next week. This video is required viewing for all involved 😅. "Communicate with your car, not voice chat" is what I've tried to tell guys, but this is so much more in-depth.
Well done Daniel this should be mandatory viewing all multiclass drivers as you said so many times the faster cars forget that the slower class are racing also so for me have come to the position that they will do the dumbest overtake 90% of the time in sim racing and that is sad
Very valuable video! What has helped me in SIM racing (my track car isnt done yet ;) ) is to also consider two other aspects. especially when running a prototype: Dont assume they see you coming, and try to understand the dynamics of the other class. I race both the GTs and the prototypes in usually the IMSA events on iracing. I find that GT cars just dont see you coming as your closure speeds are high.. as well they are in the heat of their own battle. Dont assume they see you coming. Also in especially when driving prototypes take time to understand that the behaviors of the other classes ae substantially different... corner speeds.. braking points etc. I have seen plenty of LMP2 and GTPs pile drive a GT3 in a corner because the braking points are quite different it seems. I actually prefer multiclass due to the variety of cars and the way people drive them. It feels like mulit-class racing is for a "thinking" driver, whereas single class racing.. especially sprints... ends up as a dog fight with alot of blood on the pavement. In fact the only time i've been on track with you in Iracing was in a mulitclass practice... you were in an LMP2 and I was in a GT3. But in the end... race what you like!
I remember watching a similar video on this theme you did for the iRacing official channel,it was so really helpful,I’m definitely now sitting watching this one!
I hope this reaches a lot of drivers. I learned early on that holding the racing line is normally the best thing for the slower car to do. This doesn't seem to be something that many of the " high speed drivers" realize at all. Great video. Maybe since it's coming from a guy that races A REAL GT3 CAR, more sim racers will pay attention. Love your work on and off the REAL track.
I would like to see more videos from your sim races where you think you have encountered valuable multi-class race moments that further hit home the lessons described in this video. This way the community could continuously see various examples of good/bad behaviour and improve their race IQ.
Enjoyed the notion of cost into the corner for each class. I could definitely see you setting up cars for exiting the chicane when I was at Sonoma and we’ll executed too!
Wise words Daniel. I would really like suspension set ups explained. I know when I'm driving what I need from the car i.e. too much oversteer or understeer on entry/exit but apart from camber it's a dark science to me. Bump stops, caster, stiff sway bar or loose. I'm afraid to make much of a change. Thx from Richmond Hill.
Great stuff! Your video's are on my must watch immediately list. I haven't made it up to prototype class in iracing yet, but in my endurance races I think of it as I want to make the decision for the overtaking driver by making my intentions painfully obvious so they don't even have to question for a second what i'm doing
Excellent information! I found it very helpful for even for a real life driving on track. It put words to some of my gut feel when on track with slower cars, nicely done sir. (Always enjoy watching you drive in IMSA too!)
Love this video. Thanks for your top tips! Always awesome when it's from a pro driver ! Cheers, Daniel! I'd love to see videos on you talking about how to trail break properly and to do it successfully. I feel I do it OK but really need to improve a lot as I know I lose so much time not doing to correctly!
Thanks for the video. I started watching IMSA racing b/c of this channel. I was watching the Sonoma race that happened about a month ago and heard the announcers talk about you but didn't see your name in the ticker on screen. Did you not get credit for the race? Just wondering what's up with that since I'm still new to the series.
Smashed the like as requested lol. Great tips all the way around. Our league currently is running a multi class championship and our GT3 has an AM and PRO class. Will share this with our drivers.
Brilliant information Daniel, as usual. Unfortunately, the guy sending it at every corner will not change his driving style though and apologies for being so pessimistic. However, it would be great if there was a way to clearly show these drivers how intelligent and "slower" driving has meant better results at the end of an endurance race. I know, it means analysing several races, no time for that, but hopefully this video will make people think "hey, I can try that once" 😁
In IMSA, do they cover some of these tips in a drivers meeting? For example do they recommend that GT cars always stay to one side of the track in each corner? Or is it purely up to each driver how they like driving their lines. I know that prototype drivers will complain when they’re not familiar with the driver in the slower car in front of them, so I’m assuming driving behavior characteristics can get confusing at times.
can you help me movement system ( PROSIMU ) if I use simhub the movement stops do you have any idea why simhub doesn't work with my simulator? Thank you very much
It could be because you are being matched with higher skill level, Drivers and Practice. It’s just a mix of everybody. Also, it could be that you are very tight with your input when you go into a stressful situation.
Idea for shorts: just don't do them, please. Leave them for TikTok or Instagram, where people are looking for that kind of videos, here I'd rather not see them at all. I don't come to youtube to watch 20 second small pieces of entertanment, I'm here for the 10-20 minute break at least.
I totally appreciate and understand that you don’t want to see them, but some other people do want to see them. Thanks for sharing your feelings. Have a great day.
Please share this with every single driver on iRacing. No joking, this is valuable information that I guarantee would help solve countless incidents.
Let’s start with our community haha
Stay on your line I alwyas thought this was well known obvious,I have always did it
98% of iRacers "know" this stuff, but don't practice it in any form because they all "know" that the race is won on the first turn of the first lap. 😂
I would say it would be worth the time to share it with serious students of racecraft, which 99% of iracers are not.
I just learned this type of racing format. But I have a question. If I race a slower class car, how do I win if there's faster class car? Are we just gonna be compared with the same class?

Thank you for this. I may do GT3 IMSA next season just because I know the racing is great from my last experience 👍
Good luck!
Your stint in the second race at COTA last weekend was a masterclass in every aspect of the things you talked about. Well done.
Thank you! I speak the truth 😂

My thought exactly!
Appreciate all you do for us plebeians! Because of you, I started watching the Fanatec GT series!
That’s awesome. I’m sure the series will love hearing that.

I can make a second part with more examples of good and bad things. Or just watch my streams and you can learn on the spot :)
This should be a mandatory video for everyone doing multiclass in Iracing
I agree. It’s a great piece of info
Great tips, thanks! Awesome seeing you at COTA past weekend, super cool. Enjoying your contents, cheers!
Good to see you too. Thanks a lot.
Nice video, helps me for lemans 144min in a gte with lmdh on track. Thank you.

Great video! Would love to see some onboards from my home track, Sebring.
That’s coming at the end of the season. Sebring is in September for GTWC
Great info especially with Majors Le Mans 24h coming up.
