Outerknown's blanket shirts are definitely my favorite these days, I had a Flint and Tinder one that was very similar in style but found it didn't hold up to wear as well, the fabric on the collar and cuffs started curling up in the way some flannels kinda do, while my Outerknown ones have maintained perfect shape after a lot of use, honestly one of my most recommended products.
Loved this video. I would love to see more clothing videos, like a lightweight flannel and other. We have a very similar style and I also dig what you wear in your videos. I also love that almost everything is made of natural materials. I just purged all my synthetic clothing.
So glad to hear this, I appreciate the support! Been really enjoying the apparel/clothing videos lately, they don’t seem to perform that well but the feedback seems to be great, shouldn’t be stopping anytime soon. I put out a video covering boots and another with some warm weather spring clothing since this came out if you’re interested! Brainstorming now a possible roundup of quality t-shirts as the weather turns and will definitely be doing more as I think of more ideas.
Crank and stroker supply company shirts are awesome shirts as well. Warm comfortable and super heavyweight soft well made shirts. Customer service is awesome as well. Thank you for letting me ramble on
The Whitham Work Shirt from Red Clouds Collective is a solid choice if you end up doing another video like this. I've got it in heavy wool, and a denim version, and both are 🤌
If you are looking for a very comfortable, slimmer fit and interesting pattern I would also suggest Kato's ripper plaid shirts, they are about an 8oz made with organic cotton and sewn in LA. Otherwise for a more heavy flannel I highly, highly suggest UES. Easily on par with Iron Heart if not better (IMO) given they are usually cheaper as well
I own the western version of your iron heart. Love it but like you wish I got a size up. Mine is definitely starting to patina but it’s more of a white.
I heard the western one is even cut a bit smaller. I’ve gotten used to it but a size up would probably have been best. Can’t wait to see how mine wears over time
@@joshfenn It is, I actually prefer the fit of my workshirt better, but I'm also 6'3 and 220lbs. I mostly like the snaps of the western, but everything else is better on the workshirt.
I'm late in commenting since a lot of these are probably out of stock, but that quilted Flint & Tinder is awesome. The moss is out of stock, but I like their light wash denim version too. Might consider it :)
Haha I really went down the rabbit hole for this one. Totally agree, crazy how high the quality (and price) can go for some of the high end options, but they’re really incredible
Thanks! I can’t say I’ve tested it specifically for wind, but it’s extremely thick and very tightly woven so anecdotally it’s performed really well for me in the wind
Haven’t tried it personally but would definitely be interested in checking it out at that price. 5.1oz weight wouldn’t be quite be a heavyweight for a list like this but plenty for a ‘regular’ shirt. I’ll make a note to check it out sometime!
Hey Josh, Excellent video! I feel that following you and Huckberry has affected my purchasing decisions as I'm wearing more and more overshirts lately. Couple of questions: 1. What watch are you wearing? Looks pretty cool and more matching the feel of the shirts, than the digital Casios. 2. Do you have any experience with Roark overshirts? Most of the brands you talk about aren't sold in the EU, so I'm looking for more global alternatives.
Haha glad I’m rubbing off on you! Huckberry really opened me up to a ton of new stuff too, it’s been really fun to dive further in to the quality clothes. So happy you picked up on the new watch! It’s from Vaer, the D5 tropic. It’s the first proper diver that I’ve really loved the look of, excited to share in more detail in a video sometime soon - probably a spring edc update. 2. I’ve had my eye on Roark for a while but haven’t tried anything from them yet. I’ll be sure to make a note for future videos!
@@joshfenn D5 looks nice. I knew that VAER make very good field watches, but the diver is awesome. I became aware of Roark through Wasted Talent - you probably know them, but it's a pretty cool boutique with some nice collabs with VANS and Globe.
Hoping to try something from them soon! Actually have had a tab pinned on my phone for almost a year, they have some nice graphic tees that fit my style really well too
@@joshfenn quick update on Roark. Managed to get an outlet deal on a Square Go Jacket (RJ195-DKA) for around $35. Great quality, cool little details, and it seems that they've put a lot of thought in it, because it's very comfortable to move around. It's more on the shirt/warm weather jacket side, as I find it hard to fit a knitted sweater underneath. Cheers!
It’s actually a light wool coat from KATO! Love the look and feel, covered in my jacket roundup earlier in the year: ruclips.net/video/GZUlphymMtY/видео.html Unfortunately it’s out of stock last I checked, really hope they bring it back though.
It’s the Anvil melton wool jacket from KATO, not available anymore unfortunately but I talked about it in a winter jacket guide I posted early this year
I was quite overweight for most of my life, I can definitely appreciate the ask. Unfortunately so many brands don’t have larger sizing but Filson comes to mind as the obvious choice off the top of my head. I’ve got quite a few of their pieces and they’ve all been great, sizing is very generous too (I’m a small in filson and they go up to 2-3XL I believe) Haven’t tried it personally but their Jac shirt would probably be their best item for a list like this. I’ve got an Alaskan guide flannel too but it’s more medium weight versus heavyweight. Regardless, I’ll try and do some brand research and see what I can find for future videos!
I dont think Iron heart makes clothing big enough for me. I'm 6'8" and 260lbs. I normally wear a XL-Tall or 2XL, But Iron Heart uses Japanese sizing, so a XL is like a Large I think. I don't know if they make anything over 2XL Japanese sizing.
Yeah I think you’re right unfortunately - I’m usually a medium/large depending on the brand and definitely need large/XL with iron heart. Some good alternatives out there though! Just recently tried heat straps and have been loving them - devium makes some really great flannel too
I have the lined shop shirt from TS in medium, should have gone with a large, seems like fit is much better. Love it but no way i am doing any real work in it.
What are the prices? Any flannel shirt over $50 is offensive to me. I saw one company selling a flannel for $260, where do they get the audacity to charge that much for a flannel shirt?
Just because an item has a big price tag, doesn't mean its better. My dad's Moose Creek flannel shirt he got for $6 is still kicking. Its about 10 years old to boot to. @@davidweisschadel
Love that Iron Heart, great score. That quilted shirt jacket is nice too from Flint & Tinder.
For sure! Both have been so great, exciting to finally test the iron heart after hearing so much hype about it

Your pronunciation of Duca Visconti (di Modrone) was spot on, Josh. Bravo!
That’s awesome! Always worried about the pronunciations

Heard great things about both, definitely on my list for the future. Thanks for the recs!
Check out the Brave Star CPO Japanese wool quilt lined shirt jack. Light but warm and exceptionally comfortable.
Thanks for the rec, I’ll have to check it out!
I mean does the iron heart flannel block wind??? I love that flannel

Would like to see any review on Cotopaxi Mero Organic Flannel Shirt
Haven’t tried anything from Cotopaxi yet, I’ll definitely make a note!
What flannel/shirt jac are you wearing in the video?
It’s an older Taylor stitch flannel. Love the fabric, hopefully they bring it back in a future season
what would you say about Patagonia shirts?
Haven’t tried any personally but I have some other Patagonia gear for backpacking and it’s always been solid
Any thoughts on the Legendary Whitetails brand Buck Camp Flannel?

@PlamenBarzev great pickup, it looks so nice and $35 is even better. Still gotta grab some stuff from them, hopefully this year!
Some companies such as Pladra put their sizing with tumbling dryers in mind. Did you tumble yours before your videos?
I usually hang dry fully or do a split drying in the machine for 15-20 minutes and air drying the rest of the way.
Whats the brand of the camel flannel you're wearing? Looks sharp

Not sure which one you mean, but they’re all pretty comfortable haha
How can I get it in india
Most are from different shops with different shipping locations, anything specific you were looking at?
I know youre not a "Big and Tall" guy. But would love to see some brands with that option. :). Good stuff today though!
He used to be a big and tall guy. His weight loss journey is pretty inspirational.

Glad to hear it! Should have more once fall hits
Josh not for nothing I looked at the first link Iron Heart 380 for a shirt , get a grip only a fool would pay that.

I have the lined shop shirt from TS in medium, should have gone with a large, seems like fit is much better. Love it but no way i am doing any real work in it.
TS sizing is definitely on the slimmer side - I’m usually a medium or large in most brands and always need large for TS.
The flannels at Costco are undefeated.
Gotta check them out for next fall
Freenote cloth benson duh lol😂
Gotta check out freenote cloth soon, I’ve only heard great things
Their stuff is amazing. On the spendy side but all USA made.. but ya the benson flannel and the altra

No need to be offended, no one is forcing you to buy anything you don’t want to
Wearing a hat indoors is naff. $350 for a flannel shirt is bonkers.
Different strokes for different folks
You failed at life.
