I'm really glad that you are working with Knafs. Ben Peterson (the owner of Knafs) is a genuinely good down to earth person. I've known of him for years and even met him at Bladeshow Atlanta. He's one of those rare people who works hard to make the world a better place everywhere he goes. Really happy to see you showcasing his knives on the channel. His knife designs are great EDC knives that try to balance performance, convenience and affordability very well. And the swappable scales help you match your knife to your outfit without having to buy 50+ knives. P.S. Any chance you will visit Atlanta for a bladeshow? It happens every year in early June. Might be a good opportunity to showcase that industry to your viewers.
I love DIXXON. Their BAMBOO shirts are fantastic, light and cool. Their PARTY shirts are awesome. Great colors and designs. I love their FLANNELS and I get compliments almost all the time when I’m out. My wife loves them. I’ve had plenty of other flannels that are cotton and they shrink , get holes where they wear and tear. Also other flannels wrinkle a lot. Also, for the price I can purchase 4 or 5 DIXXONS for just one of the others that you mention. I will say that I also love PENDLETON. DIXXON has the better color ways and they fit a lot better especially if you are getting a gut. I noticed that there was about 3 or 4 shirts that did not fit you. And a couple of cuffs you left unbuttoned. How tight they were I’m pretty sure that you wouldn’t be wearing those. And the reason they put collar stays in is to keep it neat or else they would wrinkle up. Well that’s my opinion and I know you don’t agree but money is also a big factor.
This is absolutely top-tier content. I wish more people were more conscious about what companies they support and what products they buy. Perfect holiday gift-giving material! Thank you Carl!
In the Proper Cloth site when choosing a shirt you have a 'Customize' button right next to the 'add to bag' button. There, under the 'Sizes' tab, you can add watch allownce to one of your sleeves (or change the cuff around size for both sleeves). Love their flannels and sweaters! Happy Thanksgiving!
Hey Carl. This is my second comment. With your videos, I've really come to notice and appreciate the construction and design of great clothing. We always strike up a conversation and it's a great way to bring the community closer. So thanks again for your high-quality videos. Keep 'em coming! :)

So, I just got my Ariat rebar flannel today off of your recommendation and let me tell you, for the $ VERY nice shirt! I’m 55 yrs old, 5’10” and around 160lbs and got the size MD. Very roomy in the back and shoulders which i love, wish it was a little trimmer in the waste but wow, what a great heavy shirt for the price! Thank you for the recommendation!
Thank you once again for all your hard work on informing us about brands and quality for those of us that work hard and really need things like this. I learned a lot today.
I have several Dixxon shirts. Glad to see you include one, and unfortunately i agree with you. I really like the patterns and colors, love the snaps and eyeglass wipe, and I like the lighter weight. On sale, they're not bad. Although, quality isn't great. Most of my shirts have at least one flaw. I'll keep wearing what I already bought, but I won't buy any more. I'm kind of done with polyester.
Carl you ever think of doing a video on different cowboy boots? I work hvac and got a pair of cowboy boots and love them so far. Would love to see a video on what you think!
It’s a great thing getting the young-ins into giving and supporting the community at such an impressionable age. Hopefully she keeps the tradition alive and one day they will have a kid or kids packing up the truck with them to give to the poor animals in need. I really appreciate seeing that. Great job.
The Origin looks nice, and the little details on the Hiroshi are incredible. One shirt that I really like is the Kuiu Field Flannel. Their colorways resonate with my wardrobe. I also have a Pendleton Burnside, and that’s the softest flannel I own.
@KurtisKlunder Dollar for dollar, you'd be hard pressed to bear DTC. Great on sizing, detailing, and quality, and sale prices can't be beat. I actually work in these shirts and they can take a beating. The free-swinging arm gussets really work. And they last.
Been waiting for this! Because of you I have the gamut of flannels and always looking for more. So my favorites are IH, Devium and Vermont Flannel. Looking forward to trying the Origin when they restock. Thanks for doing what you do!
Another great video Carl. These flannel videos are my favorites. The Heringbone on the Kato is outstanding. Awesome Seinfeld reference. It's one of the signature lines of the series.
Look forward to your flannel video every year. Thank you! Looks like you are wearing a Vermont flannel! Definitely one of my favorites along with Iron Heart
I can't justify getting anything but the Tractor Supply Co heavyweight flannels. Currently Ridgecut but used to be C.E. Schmidt. 8.5 oz 100% cotton built like a tank with triple stitching and sized well all for under $30. I have several that are many years old that look almost new because the quality is so good.
Hey--what about Duluth Trading Company? Made in Vietnam, but mostly cotton (sometimes cotton/spandex blend, but only about 2-3% spandex). Choice of weights in flannel. Choice of fits. Arm gussets. Varied colors and patterns. Under $80!
A slightly similar and less expensive alternative to the Duckworth Snowcrest could be a McNair Heavyweight Mountain Shirt. McNair are a A small-ish English brand where everything is stitched and made locally then signed by it's maker for you. Heavyweight 100% merino wool and custom sizing at no extra cost if desired as they are slimmer fitting (they also have weather resistant Corduroy, Moleskin, and Canvas options)
Been looking for "heritage" youtube to check McNair out for a while now. Considering flying over and getting them to make a to measure for me. The guy that runs the company has a really interesting story and the product looks great
@@eoinmiller5620they do seem to have next to no presence on RUclips sadly. I’d like for a thorough review and look. I’m currently in the process of saving up and justifying myself a purchase! I haven’t been up to their factory itself but would love to one day, I hear that it and the surrounding village is lovely - and you even get a gift voucher to their local bakery! Granted it’s only 4 hours drive or so from me so I perhaps have less excuse not to have been!
I have a McNair merino mountain shirt, they had a stall at chatsworth house country fair, I popped in and measured me up. I got the shirt in the post a few months later and have to say it’s perfect, best shirt I’ve ever owned. Pricey but 100% worth the money, so much so I’m going to get the exact same shirt in another colour. Love the channel Carl, keep em coming mate 👍🏼
The real reason it’s the most wonderful time of the year? I get to wear my flannel shirts. You mentioned that you put a lot of work into this video on your CWC channel and it shows. Great round up of a nice variety of shirts! Well done (as per usual).
Let me also put in a good word for the flannels at Freeman Seattle. Made in the USA. Beautiful cotton fabric in a nice medium weight. They're a bit spendy, but by my reckoning very much worth the cost. They're a little on the large size, so I would definitely recommend sizing down.
Great rundown this year, and honestly, I own the Rite Stuff Icebreaker and tuck it in...didn't realize it was cut to be untucked! I love it either way. Now I gotta say that Fridge Truck is gorgeous, and sits just about perfect.
Carl, you left out my favorite! And I'm kinda surprised, because I know you're a Carhartt fan. Carhartt flannels are my favorite. Nice thick fabric, 100% cotton, excellent pockets and buttons and priced right. My closet is full of 'em! 👍
My favorite flannel is Freenote Cloths's Benson. Its 11 oz but feels more substantial than heavier flannels I have. Its so good. You gotta check it out if you do another one of these.
Hey Carl, here are some local New England brands with flannels / overshirts for next time: New England Shirt Co Warren Manresa Johnson Woolen Mills Vermont Flannel already been mentioned I've been living in my Dehen 1920 Crissman overshirt personally. Keep up the great work!
Just received my Proper Cloth Flannel last week. I absolutely love the fabric and I ordered a custom fit one bt giving my measurements. The cut was still a little on the tight side like you said around the cuffs. It could be a tad more roomier in the shoulders, chest, and upper arms. But overall, I am happy with it. If I can layer in it, it's a keeper.
I just recently complimented a cousin of mine on his flannel. I asked what it was, thinking it was on the more obscure, high-end of the spectrum. It was the Ariat rebar. handsome shirt and appears to be well made.
I'm surprised that you left out a few flannel shirt manufacturers, notably Carhartt, Legendary Whitetail, Key, and possibly a lesser known brand, to you, Ridgecut?
Great video. I bough some pladra after finding your other flannel video's earlier this year. I cant find the wool shirt you mention in this video. You mentioned that its new, is it not for sale yet?
I ordered the Maine Guide Shirt from L.L. Bean a few months ago and I wear it a lot. I think it’s about 70% merino wool with the rest being synthetic. I wish it was 100% wool, but it’s still a pretty high wool content and at $129 I’m pretty happy with it.
Thanks for checking out ginew. Im native and no one checks their stuff out. Native brand that's the style. Think western wear with stiffer materials. I love their jackets i just dont know the quality compared to everything else
I recently got the Patagonia work shirt in red buffalo plaid, based on your review, not sure if it technically counts as a flannel, but man it’s a great shirt.
Didn’t realize we were going to the Carl gun show with a hint of flannels 😂 Appreciate the video definitely gonna check out those Ariat shirts for work
I just received an LL Bean wool flannel and haven't had a chance to put it to use but it might be worth a look for $129. It's a wool blend and seems well made.
If you have a BassPro nearby, their Redhead brand is worth a look. They have a few variants from 100% cotton to 65/35 Cotton/Synthetic blend. Not sure what the US pricing runs; in Canada they are between $30 and $60 and often on sale. I have a few of them; one (100% cotton) I bought 6+ years ago that's still going strong after a lot of seasonal wear.
A big fan of Duckworth thanks to you. The Sawtooth looks like my jam, as does the Ariat Rebar. Was hoping to see Patagonia, since they sometimes do interesting stuff (like the Iron Forge Hemp stuff), but maybe next year. Thanks for this video Carl!
Great roundup, as usual. Glad to see Proper Cloth getting some love. Just wanted to point out that since they do MTM, you can get the cuffs as big as you want. Happy Thanksgiving all!
In my experience being a flannel-holic: India has some awesome cotton mills, or at least source and finish great shirts. Everything I've picked up "Made in India" has been perfectly good quality and the fabric/weight has been superior to everywhere else in the normal/"budget" pricerange. One particular brand that has been great is "Denim & Flower", found a bunch of them at TJ Maxx last few years although less this year. Woolrich has gone up a ton in price over the past 5 years or so but is still amazing
Shame no Pendleton offerings. Got several Dixxon and agree on quality (although the FR range are 100% cotton and do feel good quality), but buy them for the interesting colorways and generally stick to the 30-40 specials unless a sale on, paid 30 for the Fender one recently from their site. Great, informative video, thanks
Love this video! Wish there was at least a shoutout for Iron Heart. Regardless, there’s some awesome brands I haven’t heard about in this. Thanks again for all the time and effort, Carl!
why didn't you have proper cloth adjust the cuff for your wrist size or add a wrist allowance? Also, if you don't like the single cuff, why didn't you choose a different button layout for the cuff?
Some of these fashion brands are cut for models. At 5'6" 185 with a 49" chest and a 38" waist I usually have to go with a 2x or 3x which generally super long on me.
Hey Carl, question - do you know if Proper Cloth discontinued that color way (Canclini Scarlet Ombré Plaid) on the Japanese Low Twist shirt? Can only find that colorway on the Beacon Flannel shirt now? Love the video, thanks for all the info.
I looked at a flannel today I've had since college. Five Brothers is the brand and looks like they have a good selection so I may try them. Dixxon is not a flannel shirt and I asked Gustin last month to make stuff for big guys and enough with the Umpa Lumpa sizing. I am on the Proper Cloth email list and may order from them now after watching this video and reading the comments (and get the extra cuff button option).
Thanks for the great content! My problem is that I have 2 kids in sports and cannot afford $150+ on flannel shirts. Interesting info on the Dixon brand, thanks for the heads up.
Danner work boots are fairly affordable but their clothing appears to be purchased at retail, receives the Danner branding and a 100% markup. Their pullover hoodie is another example.

You should check out the bass pro redhead ranch line. I just got 3 different types of their flannels, and am blown away by the redhead ranch line.
Duluth Flannel is pretty good
What about Jack's and Pendleton?
Question what do you think about sleeping Indian wool jackets I know they’re a small company just don’t know much about them
Great roundup, as usual. Glad to see Proper Cloth getting some love. Just wanted to point out that since they do MTM, you can get the cuffs as big as you want. Happy Thanksgiving all!
Thanks for the info!
Awesome video! Really enjoyed it!
Thanks a ton!
AKHG Boars Nest Flannel - buttoned collar.
All the collars on those flannels look sub par.
I have mixed emotions about Patagonia, but I have two of their flannels that I like a lot. Would love to get your thoughts on Patagonia flannels.
I usually go to Mardens and get whatever they have my size. Found some really nice coleman flannels there, and they were like $10.
Eddie Bauer has some really nice flannels I love because they come in medium tall cuts for tall skinny guys.
And you can get them for a good price, since they are almost always on “sale”. I’ve got a couple.
Love this video! Wish there was at least a shoutout for Iron Heart. Regardless, there’s some awesome brands I haven’t heard about in this. Thanks again for all the time and effort, Carl!
Oh I covered Iron Heart flannels in the first and second installments of this series.
@@CarlMurawski ahhhhh…. I must of missed your videos in my feed. Of course you did! Stoked to go check those out.
Thanks again, Carl!
Hell yeah! The UHF is badass
why didn't you have proper cloth adjust the cuff for your wrist size or add a wrist allowance? Also, if you don't like the single cuff, why didn't you choose a different button layout for the cuff?
Some of these fashion brands are cut for models. At 5'6" 185 with a 49" chest and a 38" waist I usually have to go with a 2x or 3x which generally super long on me.
Great video! Another good flannel is the Vermont Flannel Co, pretty sure they were in last years video which is where I found them 😂
They were! And theyre one of my favorites.
Definitely check out the Kuiu brand.. their attack pant and stretchy flannel have become a staple for me.
Oh boy, I cant even imagine how you pronounce that! haha Still, I'll check them out!
wrangler is so good shirt!
Danner work boots are fairly affordable but their clothing appears to be purchased at retail, receives the Danner branding and a 100% markup. Their pullover hoodie is another example.
I think he looks great in anything.
Ridgecut Heavy Flannels are great from TSC
I have a made in the USA LLbean flannel (vintage) that had color stands.
Great round up as always. Surprised that there's no mention of Iron Heart seeing as you've covered them many times. Do you not rate their flannels?
Being an owner of a 78 year old manufacturer of entirely USA made rehab exercise products named Elgin, I really appreciate your support of many fellow USA manufacturers! Brotha have u heard crucible metals company has 90 days to file for bankruptcy?
I'm wondering how Poncho brand flannel compare to any on this list.
