Why do women dress elogently and men will choose to dress down
Women dress well to show off there beauty and to give an heir of refinement
A well dressed man has to have accomplishments to make his attire meaningful, when a man is not accomplished he does not want to dress for a
part he does not have because people will think "he looks good, what does he do, who is he" whereas for a woman the thought will generally end at
"she looks good" with the possibility of "I wonder who shes with".

I started wearing suits or sport coats every time I went to my kids' performances, school band, chorus, drama etc. The first time I did it, some of my friends asked me why, and "Who died?" and so on. I said that these kids work hard, and I decided to dress up to show them I appreciated their hard work and was willing to make their performances special. We'll, the next performance, there were 3 of us in coats or suits, then 10, then about 25% and it kept growing. Soon, the women were upping their game as well. Before long, these performances started to become date night type events for the parents and we all started to really enjoy them more. Just put yourself out there. You'll start a trend.

I drive a truck in a dirty industry. I dress up for work. Everyone thinks I own the company or at least supervisor. I get crazy respect from regular Joe's to Top Dogs. People take a second look at company name on side of truck as they're impressed. I thought coworkers would dislike me. They actually like me more. They light up when they see me coming and these are hardcore dudes. Such a simple thing to take you, your company or the company you work for places. Not gonna mention the ladies I encounter everyday. (grin)
I was inspired by this channel a few years ago.
Side effect: I act more professional at work when dressed because I feel professional. Road rage, selfish driving and not getting along with coworkers has left the chat. Life changing.

I attended my high school senior class 50 year reunion in 2022. I didn't want to make the mistake I made at our 20 year reunion by showing up in a pair of khakis and a striped polo shirt while ALL the other men wore a suit .
I was a subscriber (still am) to your channel and too to heart your advice.
I walked into a men's clothing store, walked up to a salesman and simply said "help". He chuckled and asked how he could help and I explained about my upcoming class reunion. Smartest move I could have made!
Not only did he measure me for the jacket but the trousers, white shirt and vest as well. We topped this all off with a nice pair of black leather dress shoes. What really surprised me was how absolutely comfortable the suit was! One of the contributing factors was the white shirt. It was 100% cotton but with a special weave that breathed and I barely knew I was wearing it!
Anyway, at the reunion I was one of the few men wearing a suit but I felt quite at ease and received compliments from both men and women despite being about 40 pounds over weight- a byproduct of 3 heart attacks due to a blood clot from a shoulder surgery and 2 more due to physically overdoing it.
So, gents you don't have to be uncomfortable wearing a suit. Get it tailored to you.
Thanks for the great advice and keep up the good work!

I think something overlooked on why men don't dress like before is the cost of decent nice looking clothes. Plus if you are working in construction for example why bother buying something you won't wear much? You go to work without it, you stay home and sleep without it. The only time to use it really is when you go out and that is also on the decline and I'm not spending half an hour getting ready to go grocery shopping I'm just going.

My dad worked in construction. He wore dark wash denim jeans (well faded, typically), redwing work boots, a thin cotton undershirt, and a button up shirt every day. When it was cold he wore an oxford button down, and when it was hot he wore a Cuban. Always with the breast pocket which frequently housed a pack of cigarettes, his reading glasses, his pencil, and approximately 53 cents in spare change.
He always kept a mid gray sport coat in the truck. It wasn’t a very formal coat. Patch pockets, big tan buttons, a rougher material, though not as rough as tweed.
He didn’t look like he was ready to go to cocktail hour at the plaza, but he was certainly very sharply dressed when he’d toss the gray jacket on for lunch with my mom or to go to a rotary meeting after work.

I used to work with a contractor who was worth several million net. He dressed like a hobo. I asked him why one day and he told me that he wants to be perceived as a working man and not as an "empty suit." He doesn't want people to suck up to him or ask him for money or any of the other behavior that comes with dressing well. As you said, you present yourself in the way you want to be treated. He wanted to be left alone and treated like an average Joe rather than as a guy who owned 150+ rental units and built houses for wealthy buyers. There's something to be said about that. Even though I'm dead broke, I do dress well for professional reasons. I need people to assume I'm competent and intelligent, but when I'm out, I'm constantly barraged by homeless people asking for money. They'll walk past 15 other people to mark me. I've had some wait 20 minutes while I shop to hit me up on the way out of the store, or watch me pump gas just to hit me up walking back with my receipt. Sometimes, just like my first boss, I don't want that kind of attention.

‘Eloquently’ fits perfectly fine. (Although, I understand it’s tricky to see how).
‘Eloquent’ can mean expressive, meaningful, significant, indicative, graceful, sophisticated, intelligent, dignified (through distinguished).
‘Elegant’ can mean graceful (like ‘Eloquent’), sophisticated, intelligent, dignified (these three also like ‘Eloquent’).
‘Eloquent’ might fit even better as it focuses more on expression than ‘Elegant’ does.
In this case, the women would be expressing themselves through their clothes, makeup, hairstyles, etc. at this event where the dress code isn’t strict, yet still more formal.
Since ‘Eloquent’ and ‘Elegant’ are usually adjectives which modify the noun/pronoun, they don’t always have to refer to clothes or writing.
      (EXTRA)
You know, it’s such idiosyncrasies as these that make language and learning new ones or improving my own very fun and interesting!

I'm pretty sure he meant to say elegantly and under normal circumstances that would always be the more accurate word.

My father and I both have taken numerous language courses and know a few others well enough to read (but not speak).
I consulted with my father and we agree that the reason it can work is because this guy said it like a modifier (‘eloquently’ instead of just ‘eloquent’).
If he had specifically said ‘eloquent’ instead of ‘elegant’, then he would be wrong; because those two words are completely different, but as a modifier, anything goes.
I can agree that it seems like a stretch. Perhaps mostly because people associate these two words a certain way, but it is possible.
One would probably just have to explain their word usage and the word definitions to convince people.

On the outside dressing well shows you care, you put effort and time into what you would wear for the people you would meet that day. This is something a lot of people do not understand, if you show up with whatever clothing you will make others understand you don't care about the venue or the people present. If you dress up nice they will know you care about them and in turn are likely to show their appreciation to you in one way or another.
On the inside it helps making you feel confident, you know you look good so you feel good, you feel good so everything goes smoothly. You can even get some compliments every now and then and the best compliment is looking in a mirror and liking the way you look.
I really do not know who was the first person to tell the huge lie of "Dont judge a book by its cover" when everything is based on appearance: your first impression, how likely people are to approach you, how likely they are to notice you, whether they will think you're serious or aloof is all based on appearance. "Looks can be deceiving" is a much more appropriate, people might not be what they present themselves as, but there's always a first impression guiding the first step to any interaction.

I have found some stupidly lightweight cargo pants for hiking which are sold for being UV blocking and very little more, but look similar to normal weight pants, to wear in work where the dress code prohibits shorts - this is for hygiene reasons for anyone accessing the production floor, so female employees aren't allowed bare legs either, but other places I've worked in have no such reason and no problem with this double standard.

Setting your closet up for the outfit ensemble as you've shown at the end of the video is excellent advice to follow. You get invited somewhere, you can walk into your closet and grab from top to bottom and your look is done. A suit is best set up with a selection of ties that work with the color and design chosen. If lost just look online for "casual look" or "semi formal" or "formal". I think a lot of the uncomfortableness in wearing a put together look is that we are afraid of ruining it during our outting. There goes our James Bond look. Relax into the clothes and that exhibits a level of confidence that being tense definitely shows as nervousness.

Even though today many men wear it with more formal wear, it looks off and takes their look down a few notches. It looks like they are going hiking but also going to a business meeting. Simple fix: stick with a sweater with buttons if you want something similar. Buttons are always more elegant and more formal than zippers. As a rule, think zippered sweaters go best with sneakers/boots, button sweaters go best with dress shoes. Details matter. All the best!

Once the summer hits and temperatures approach 'room temperature' I have to slow down the ride into work to minimise how much I overheat as soon as I sit in the still air in the office. One morning I was standing outside of my 9:00 A.M. classroom with my other classmates waiting for the current class to finish their exam and file out so we could walk in and take ours. After five minutes of standing around, the assistant professor walked out of the classroom, walked right up to me, and apologized that the exam was taking so long, and said that if I wanted, I could come in early and set up my laptop and the room for my students so I would be ready for them by the time they were able to come in.
I smiled, and informed the professor that I was not the incoming professor, but just one of the students. She apologized and went back in. It may have been a small thing, but I felt proud to be mistaken for a professor, and not just a student.

Dressing well as a man is not an opportunity to judge. But remember that this is how you’re presenting yourself to the world. When you dress well, there are many non-verbal cues that are communicated. You respect yourself, you respect others, you demand respect. Men need to start looking dapper again. Bring back the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s style of dress. How many ladies do you know like or dislike a man in a suit? Ask them. Have I made my point yet?

Athletes dress in clothing made to optimize their performance instead of for their own mindset. Even Sir Alex Ferguson, who's litigious about standardized clothing, says that standardized uniform is more for reinforcing the player's discipline and promoting team unity rather than "dressing for themselves." In fact by SAF's explanation, it's quite the opposite; you dress to eliminate the ego. Clothing serves a utility. For marketer-type professions, looking good is the utility. This does not necessarily apply to non-marketer-type professions.
On the confidence promoting benefits, the studies actually show that the act of dressing well is simply a habituating ritual that reinforce discipline or other desired mindsets. The clothing itself doesn't necessarily cause the mindsets. Mr. Real Style is confusing correlation for causation.

They measured us, then used a real tailor for alterations, all for that price; if you have no way to share, plan your three suits so that they are quite different between them, for different purposes. Maybe drastically different weights, so you have a summer suit, winter suit, and the third one for whichever season you need/want.

"Best dressed" I mean, I think suits look awful. Ties look clownish. A dark button down shirt with contrasting flare designs looks the best to me, but I love music so band t-shirts are the most expressive. The idea of paying for expensive clothing that doesn't express anything about me, and feels awful to wear is crazy. I do not trust anyone I meet that is wearing a suit. If they have to fake things via how they dress, how real will they be when they interact with me? Like girls wearing way too much makeup. If this less-trustworthy demographic views me negatively for wearing a tshirt, or button down shirt then this just lowers my opinion of them further. It doesn't encourage me to dress like them.

  • @Whatisright
    @Whatisright 28 дней назад +4

Most of this advice might have been from Antonio himself but I saw a video a while back that said the fastest way to immediately dress better is to where your nicest clothes all the time. Doesn't mean wear a suit to a construction site but dress well all the time. Regardless of the occasion, if there is one or not, dress well. Then shift that into only buying nicer pieces, don't buy the pack of shirts buy a quality shirt. Then it's not something you have to work on or build a habit of doing, it's all you have all you do. It's how you shop because you shop deliberately. Learn what dressing well means. If for no other reason to wear clothes that fit, because it helps us function better. Pants that fit well feel like they want to work with you while you're doing your thing. If you see a trend you like, find the timeless version of it.
Get a great pair of boots, they're easy to dress up and functional. Most people are wearing sneakers even in the winter it's sneakers, uggs, or clogs. Get a good pair of boots you can dress up or down. IMO boots elevate everything and you feel like you can walk through anything, because you can. There's some things you just don't have to pay attention too while out that other people do and you'll start to notice. I dress well, or try to but I don't worry about what I'm wearing. There's people who dressing well means expensive or looking a certain way so they worry about ruining their look. It's like being in New York in the winter and everyone has boots on but they're expensive so they're afraid to strut through snow or slush and create bottle necks. If something's expensive but you don't trust it when used as intended because it might get dirty or fall apart then why buy it? If it's pricey I expect part of the wearability to be that I can wear it regularly. That kind of wearability is versatile and really helps with downsizing a wardrobe. I think if you have to start somewhere with a style start with the shoes and go with boots, build it up from there.

There would also be more affordable quality options in general if so much material wasn’t wasted on cheap shirts with crappy decals.

Another reason why that is more specific to my country, the UK, is that most people would probably assume that if you dress well, you're more than likely upper class, and so, people will assume that you are arrogant and that you look down upon others simply because you're richer.
Also, due to the popularity of the show, Peaky Blinders, others might assume that you're attempting to dress like a gangster, leading them to dismiss you out of hand. Lastly, due to the Boomers having it really easy due to the economic prosperity of their youth, things such as the desire to dress well were taken for granted and over time, culture shifted until we were no longer to care for someone's appearance, so long as they did their job well. In short, weve become far too utilitarian with how we dress.

@@TimErwin the homeless are often dressed better. They aren't afraid to wear a sport coat.

Very interesting. I never dress nice because I'm always working or in the garage. I'll start doing this and see what happens.

My issues with dressing well are
    1. Cost: it seems like I have to choose between half-baked discount outfits that arent priperly fitted, or paying extortionist rates for a single good outfit. I'm not broke, but I refuse to spend hundreds or even thousands on a single outfit
    2. Knowledge: I don't really know what the "right" outfit is in many cases. I can decide if I like how it looks, but I know nothing of "style" in any formal sense.
    3. Motivation: why do I care to dress properly when everyone around me dressed like trash and gets the same treatment? We don't reward proper behavior and are stunned to see improper behavior
    4. Self-image: I don't like how I look, ever. So if I dress modestly and don't stand out, I can hide in a group. You can polish a turd, but it's still just a turd

I’m a cashier at McDonald’s and even I wear a three piece suit to work. Even on my off days when I’m playing my N64 all day long, I do so in style-by rocking a tuxedo. Get it together people.

: D ... I feel all my life I have made a point out of being clothed sloppy, while striving to perform exceptionally well in whatever I was doing, but none of the reasons you mentioned resonated with me. I have never thought about it, but I think dressing badly is a form of ego-protection. E.g.: It was really important to me to get all As' in my Master degree to not fall behind my father and older brother, so I studied very very hard for it ... but still I did the exam in and old T-shirt and Jeans, which is severely some would call it offensively under-dressed for the setting in that university. Well, I got my As ... all of them^^ ... and now I can say I got them despite having been dressed terribly, which is nice ... but more importantly, if I had failed, in my hearts of hearts I could pretend that I did not get them, because they were in the wrong for judging my clothing rather than my performance, and it would have had nothing to do with me not being good enough, despite giving 100%.^^
Anyway - I have never dressed well since then, but I do not feel that I had any disadvantage from not owning a suit - maybe because I am an Engineer a profession were good clothing is very uncommon anyway ...
