You're so right about complements. I've been complemented on my looks, but I have no control over the combination of my molecules. A better one would be to complement my outfit because I've spent considerable time planning it to look good and fit the occasion.
Hello James, I hope this reaches you well, I really enjoyed the video it’s a refresher to see a young man do different things in his videos rather than the mainstream red-pill repetitive stuff you see across this platform I wish you the best in your career. Best wishes, from Scotland.
I couldn’t agree more. Where other influencers in this space are encouraging men to manipulate and disrespect women and teaching them a generally pessimistic and hateful worldview, James is trying to elevate young guys and help them be their best. We need more of that for sure
My High school football coach was an easy 5'6 170 pounds and was the absolute Alpha in every room he walked into. In a room of giants he was always the biggest. Still respect that man to this day
Yeah, I'm sure your coach got the respect from all you players. He likely spent a lot of energy looking and sounding tough, big and knowledgeable about football. But I bet deep down inside, he was an anxious guy who was afraid of being judged as a little nobody who couldn't make it to the big leagues.
Yes, the power of influence is much stronger than the power of intimidation. Influence comes when you're in sync with everyone. You mirror them to understand them. Better. You ask them about them and take an interest in what they say. If someone says that they went to college in California and begin working in New York, you might say wait a minute. How did you get from California to do York? That's active listening . When you leave a person and they feel better about themselves, you have influence. Another task is to have a brief and debrief file. After you've talked to someone, and you have a chance, pull out your phone and record their name and what you talked about . The next time you might meet that person on the job or at a party, you pull up that file and review it. When you meet them you can call them by name and say hey. Whatever happened about and reference what you talked with him about last time. You will become one of the most influential people they know.
Today on my morning standup Zoom call, I was wearing one of my Ralph Lauren OCBDs and my coworker complimented me on how nice the shirt was. It was a small thing but as you said, it was genuine and specific, and it felt good. It reminds me I need to do more of that Toward others
It’s helpful to hear your updating me on the stuff I generally had, but as I’ve been out of the game for years, it’s good to revise and brush up, in order to get ready for my first date for a very long time in years. Tomorrow at 6.30pm. It’ll be interesting. It always used to be easy and good fun, we’ll see if I’ve still got it.
Interestingly, the etiquette book I've been reading claims the exact opposite to be true. Apparently views on this topic can differ between cultures, or even from person to person.
@@kirstenbakker839 A very valid point. In Latin America for example NOBODY is on time. If the party starts at 6pm and you show up at 6pm, you'll be the only person there and the host will wonder why you are there so early lol.
That is arguably much worse, for several reasons. First, showing up excessively early to an event May burden or inconvenience the host, as they likely weren’t ready for guests yet. Second, it conveys that you have nothing else going on in your life, which generally isn’t a good look. Show up on time or slightly early and you are golden. People overthink these things sometimes
Hi James, I just wanted to say thank you. I am from Turkey, and soon I am going to become a diplomat in foreign affairs. Your channel has really helped me improve my manners and communication skills. Wishing you all the best!
Last year I had a brief but memorable fling with a 26 year old colleague (I was 55). She was very flirty from the start, and clearly had a thing for older men. Any concerns I had about being too old or being on the wrong wavelength were swiftly banished after our first date. She loved that I performed gentlemanly (but unremarkable, in my eyes) actions such as opening the car door for her, leading her to her seat in the restaurant, and pulling out her chair. Apparently, young guys don't do that these days. And once we got a little more intimate, my tendency to take the lead and to issue instructions (take your top off, kneel on the bed etc) was VERY well received. It was never going to last, but it was a lot of fun while it did.
I'm attending a wedding near Madrid in May. would love to see a video of wedding guest dress code and etiquette + any gentlemanly advice for such an event.
I love your videos. You have a great talent for education and entertainment. You look great! You are a great inspiration to me. You are beautiful and so are your concepts. Thank you for doing this series. I wish you great success and prosperity in everything you do. Cheers!
"Never on a rush" Me as a school teacher for little kids : IMPOSSIBLE 😂 With a job like mine, my personnality is quiet different when I am at my job. I mean, I'm so relaxed and "not on a rush" when I'm not with the kids.
I recently discovered this channel and have thoroughly enjoyed the content. I have learned a lot and look forward to more videos in the future. A great book I would recommend is , "The Art of Manliness" by Brett and Kate McKay.
James, if I may, I've always been fascinated by Prince Phillip's body language and posture, specifically, the hands clasped behind the back. Would love to see a video about that. Also like how the Queen's hands held each other while resting over her knees while she sat down.
These were really helpful, and I think they could have been even more so if you’d provided brief but specific examples of each. For instance, people might walk away with different impressions of what you mean by being reactive, so demonstrating reactive behavior would be useful. Same goes for when you’re talking about giving a specific compliment - sharing an example of such a compliment would help. Thank you
James reliably produces insightful content, but is unpredictable because he likes to talk about shoes one day and Machiavelli the next. That is a sincere and authentic complement.
Hurrying is important in an airport like yesterday , I almost missed my flight because getting off my previous flight took forever because people are overloaded and slow. But I like to get to an airport early so I’m unhurried
Well, one would have to define one's terms. "Skincare", for me, just means using a non-flashy moisturiser on my face every day, after using plain soap on it in the shower, or if I've just got out of the water from surfing. Because dry skin isn't an attractive look. In the sun (I work outside, but this applies to anyone going out under the sun) using a good, effective, sun lotion is basic health care, because skin cancer or just a face like a crocodile handbag isn't a very attractive look either. So, yes, I think it depends upon what you mean by skincare.
In shakespeare's life of the Caesar's: "Marcus Antonius: You should be a man of the times. Augustus, then Octavian: I intend to possess the time." Or as some might say: Do not be the man who flows with the current as is the course of dead fish, be as the beaver who diverts its flow according to his own designs. Principled men create and do things of value, opportunists seek only to fill his cup while the tap is running. The man who goes with the times is an opportunist and is not to be trusted.

I agree with you about creating a generation of gentleman. It is sorely missed.
1. Unhurried and unbothered body language
2. Self-respect
3. Non-reactiveness
4. The power of silence
5. Speak with authority
6. Compliment with precision
7. Reliability and unpredictable
Number 3 & 4 need to take long times to master.
Thank you
It'd be a pleasure to see a future video about "presents a gentleman would make for Valentine's day."
that would be great
Additionally, a gifting guide video for friends and family would also be welcomed as well. Maybe a full video discussing gift giving for friends, family, and significant others?
Just flowers and nice bottle with card
Agreed

When I think of the term “alpha,” I think of a domineering, brash and often obnoxious man. That’s not the same as a confident, assertive gentleman
