I like the durability and classic styling. This is often something not found in women’s brands. I would love to see a female version lf a Heritage style if such exists… out there in Youtubia 🤔 I envy my husband how durable and long lasting his clothes are! And question for you: which stores do you shop at? Top handful or two faves? Thank you in advance - Lynne
My wife and I were just having this conversation the other day actually! No women’s brands that I’ve seen seem to focus on quality and durability outside of the male focused brands with smaller women’s sections. Most mens clothing can be gender neutral I suppose but it’d be great to see more feminine pieces for people that want them with the same level of quality and materials. Saw your other comment too, my wife actually dresses a bit trendier with the current styles and does a lot of thrifting so she probably won’t be on for a video anytime soon, but it’d be fun if we could work that out in the future! I’ve found quite a few brands I really like from Huckberry over the past couple of years, their house brands (proof, flint and tinder) are both solid but I also really like Filson, Taylor Stitch, Kato, Relwen, and Mission workshop. Haven’t tried yet but Iron Heart and American trench look excellent too. Hope this helps with some ideas!
@@joshfenn We shall have to hope for change in the future. I have seen some on small scale, but very hard to find and very niche. All good! Thrifting is a great way to go. And thank you for the brand info! Best, Lynne
For the Proof rover pants that you have are they in a slim fit it straight or slim fit? I plan to get a pair and would like to know your thoughts on the sizing as well
I’ve got the slim fit for mine. It’s possible that they’re just newer, but I feel like the fit is a bit more snug than my older slim fit rovers, a little more than I’d like. Definitely not a skinny fit or anything, but if you’re concerned I’d get the straight fit or size up if you’re wanting something looser.
Man both of those jackets look great. Wish there were more affordable options, but I guess the point of transitioning away from fast fashion, is sucking it up and spending on quality stuff huh?
Yeah that’s kind of how it goes unfortunately. Seems like most waxed canvas gear I’ve found is around this price or higher (Barbour, filson). At least with these they have the fabric mill sourcing and they’re built to last.
Love the video! I used to be into fast fashion, but now I’m slowly transitioning into slow fashion. I live in South Africa so winter isn’t freezing cold like in America but I usually wear sweatshirts, hoodies, sweatpants and sneakers. Sometimes I’ll just wear a t-shirt with sweatpants. I’m always interested to see what is in your rotation so keep making these types of videos!
Glad to hear you’re enjoying them, thanks so much for the support! Hopefully slow fashion mentality will continue to move into the mainstream for people.
So great to get a look at your selection. I love your style in general; planning to buy some of your picks based on your recommendations (loved the Poncho Sweater in Heather Grey). =)
It’s been so fun diving into all of this the past few years, glad you’re enjoying it! That poncho sweater has been amazing, should be even better for winter too.
I enjoy seeing how your building your wardrobe. I emptied my closet last spring and have been building out my closet similar to what you're doing. It is expensive, but worth it...
I don’t think it’s available anymore, but it’s from tailor stitch and I think it’s one of their ledge flannels. Really great quality! They still make them but come out with new fabrics and patterns every year
Nice! I’ve got that flannel too. I love the fabric but how small the buttons are really doesn’t match the weight IMO. I think I’ll be sticking with TS knits from now on. Their pants and button down shirts just dont fit ne well.
Fit can be so weird sometimes, I’m inbetween a medium and large in most brands too and have trouble with certain brands. Relwen is another solid choice that might be worth checking out, huge fan of their workshirt flannel line
@@joshfenn thanks for the response! yeah, I’ve seen some of Relwen’s stuff and heard good things! Will have to check them out eventually. I’m in similar boat with between medium and large in most brands with the added wrinkle of being a women with decent hips but liking the quality and style of men’s heritage clothing more for the most part haha. Thought this was a nice round up of fall wardrobe essentials! I’m new to your channel and looking forward to seeing more stuff especially around heritage clothing!
Oh and if you like Taylor stitch, highly recommend their hemp Apres shorts for the summer. I love them so much got them in four colors and they’ve become my go to summer short.
Planning on doing a lot more wardrobe/apparel content this year, glad to hear you’re interested! The Apres pants have been on the top of my list to check out for a while, going to have to get some of the shorts when I get the pants. Thanks for the rec!
Love the video, Josh! Very nice selection. I ended getting the Quilted Waxed Jacket and this is my first time owning one. So, I'm wondering how have you been taking care of your waxed jackets?
Thanks so much and congrats on the new jacket! I’ve really been enjoying mine. Waxed canvas is extremely low maintenance luckily, part of the reason I’ve been so drawn to it compared to leather. Not much is really needed, just spot clean if anything needs removing and re-wax every few years or when you’d like to replenish the water resistance. My trucker jacket is over a year old and the wax is still in great shape, probably something that only needs to happen every 2-4 years depending on wear. Huckberry and stridewise have both put out videos on how to rewax for when the time comes but just sit back and enjoy it for now! It’ll break in and soften up a bit over time and look even better.
Hi, my partner and I also live in Portland and I often struggle to find good shops for mens clothing for him. I am going to stop by Filson and Dehen this weekend. Are there other local spots you like? Especially some that are a little more affordable than Filson/Dehen. Thank you!
There are a few others, but I run into the same issue with cost unfortunately so don’t do as much local shopping as I’d like. Nau, Bridge & Burn, and Marine Layer have some really nice stuff too but the prices are pretty similar to filson and dehen. A lot of the nicer brands have a great resale market online, I try to shop those or sales when I find them, great way to keep the quality but spend a bit less. Less fashion focused, but I end up getting stuff from REI somewhat often with sales/clearance, and I’ve found some good denim at Nordstrom rack for cheap too. Neither of those are local unfortunately but a bit less expensive. I know this wasn’t an ideal answer, but I hope it helps!
just discovered the channel-- really hoping that you're going to do one for spring/ summer. I really love the aesthetic of your channel, and I'm always looking for ways to wear jackets or layers without getting too hot in the spring/ summer, ways to try and achieve a similar look
I struggle with the layers and spring/summer heat as well! Fall and winter just open up way more possibilities for me, I feel like I haven’t quite ‘cracked’ summer fashion for my ideal style without sweating a ton haha. Probably won’t do a spring video exactly like this one, but I am talking clothes quite a bit more for this year! Put out a couple of videos for jackets and overshirts this year with a ton more to come.
Love the style! Unfortunately, this season is already over in Berlin, Germany - yesterday I had to wear my wool coat already ;-( Would love to see some tips for (a) rainy autumn and (b) winter - these are still unsolved for me ;-/
I was definitely late for fall with this one even here, I get what you’re saying. We get very rainy here for the fall and winter, most of these still translate well with the exception of a rain shell to add in if it’s heavy rain. Might be getting my hands on some heavier winter coats to test out and share though, I’ll definitely update if I can along with some of my winter clothing picks.
Hey Josh, nice clothes unfortunately I leave in Costa Rica and the weather is not as cold as up there, there are some tips regarding shoes that might help as we have a very strong rainy season and those might work here, I will love to see the Govemade tour and other local companies, it sounds interesting and also a good way for them to get publicity and been known.
The rain has gotta be tough for you down there! Warm weather + rain gear gets a bit difficult not to overheat with my backpacking experience, definitely a unique set of problems to overcome. Glad you enjoyed it though, great to hear you’re interested in the company bts videos! Hoping to get that sorted out properly sometime soon.
Great video. You do not need anyone's validation for what you like to wear. just because i like to wear a suit and tie doesn't mean that i can look down on someone wearing a hoodie. Everyone has their own personal style journey and we should all be expressive of ourselves through what we wear. Love these video's especially because you don't just buy them you look out for materials and sourcing. i gave merino wool a try because of you and i have never looked back since.
Appreciate the insights! I’ve never been happier or more confident with my wardrobe than I am now. Not sure if you’re speaking generally or referring to my thoughts at the end of the video - I was referring more to the video/video performance in the others in the series. It’s been a bizarre mix I haven’t encountered with my other videos, really high interest in the idea but a 90% drop in views from normal after making them. Still making them because I truly enjoy it but a weird combination of interest/performance I’ve never seen before.
Thanks so much! Been really loving the pattern and style of it, quality and detail are top notch. Hoping to try a few more pieces from them sometime soon!
Glad to hear it! I didn’t realize quite how dense the video got until I was editing, tried to cut it down a bit but still ended up being a bit much for a lot of people I’m sure. The higher quality clothing brands just have so much info out there for the construction and materials, can’t help but dive into it.
You did a great job on the video. I just hate it felt like a Huckberry commercial. I know they make great products, but they send everyone free stuff, so RUclips is saturated. I'm like you. I lost 100 pounds and I'm enjoying the ability to wear clothes besides carhartt and it fit. I'll continue to try and stomach my way through and give you a follow. Just know there's so many great brands out there, at a reasonable price, with made in the USA items. They're just not free.
No need to subscribe if you feel like you have to stomach through. I get what you’re saying, this video was pretty HB heavy, but it’s definitely not an ad or under any kind of obligation on my end to create the video. I’ve covered about a dozen different clothing brands over the past couple of years though and actually plan on expanding in 2024 with more clothing content (and variety). Similar video style to this though so if you aren’t on board you probably won’t like what’s to come either.
Sixty-eight bucks for a pocket-t? Get a grip. Tried to keep an open mind but it all got worse as the video progressed. Final thoughts? What a dandy, what a fop, what a shill!

Sizing overall is typical though, 34 is my usual and the waist fits great - just a bit more snug in the leg than I had anticipated.

What’s flannel you’re wearing?
It’s a Taylor stitch ledge flannel from a few seasons ago, they don’t have the exact color/fabric anymore but a few great ones for this year
