Masterful. A real light bulb moment for me. Began immediately hitting left as you warned. With just a little practice I am are on target both chipping and pitching. Tight as drum. Pressure down on the handle is a very handy swing thought. Thank you so very much.

Hi Stu...Texas backyard baller here with more comments😅. Well you have done it my friend, I now have to relearn all my club distances thanks to you! Pitching those 50 yarders at the house are now easily going over the fence. Going to range in the morning to hit some full shots and i have a feeling its gonna be great to just feel that compression over n over. Sure i would hit some good ones with that garbage swing n felt compression very rarely and now i know why thanks to all your nuggets of true knowledge. At 61 years old with my handicap at 11 now (with garbage swing) i cant wait to see what i can get it down to. Sorry for the blabber but my enthusiasm is at a high because of you. Your an amazing Coach! My COACH NOW!

@@GoodGolfCoaching well Coach its 90 degrees at 9 am here in Texas. Got to the range and for the 1st session not too bad. Having that bowed left wrist is hard to overcome right now but it started getting better. My old 9 iron was about 125 yards but today it was about 140 to 145 when I could do it the correct way! I could live with that for sure! 8i was 135 now about 150. Just alot to take in but enjoyed the session. That lighter grip pressure really helped. Felt effortless ! Drilled some hybrids n Driver was good also. Know its gonna take some time to groove but it's a mission now. Play tomorrow so will see. Ty coach it's looking up!

None of this became concrete with me until the mention in one of your last videos about the shaft being close to 90 degrees to the spine angle. It just clicked at that point. Winter has been rebuilding the swing. Looking forward to applying it to the short game. I’m thinking this has the potential to be my best year since high school. I’m indebted my friend. My best, NWH

Interesting practice today : a, I can do this … and b, this is a great way to ‘feel’ the impact of the good grip and controlling release point and face direction. … because it’s shorter shots you definitely need to develop feel … and, all shots have a visible consequence! ATB

I’ve recently developed a nasty habit of shanking chips and pitches no matter how short they are, even when hitting full shots pretty well. I’m going to give thus a try, concentrating on downward pressure above all else.

@@GoodGolfCoachingwell, it was very interesting. If I concentrated on the feeling of getting the handle under an imaginary cane, when my hands were more or less over my left foot, and felt like I really pulled the hands around to the left afterwards, I hit some great chips and pitches. Got plenty of height and really crisp strikes. A few were pulled a bit left of target, but they all hit the green and were much preferable to shanks.
The interesting thing is I tried the same thing with driver, just for a laugh, and I got really solid, free flowing strikes, as opposed to tentative steers and snap hooks. Felt like I could real whip the club through without my body getting in the way. Time will tell if I can maintain it, but it seems like a positive thing to do rather than trying to steer the club head.
      Thanks Stu

I've never heard the idea of the club handle being under the plane. The clubhead yes, but not the handle. Damn, that makes so much sense. I can shank 100 balls in a row, so very interested in this lesson. Also, with the swing being different than a full swing, I wonder if timing up the backswing with the downswing is more critical because of the built in lag going at the beginning of the downswing, ie., the handle of the club starts to move down before the clubhead does.

    • @GoodGolfCoaching

Handle pitch and plane is crucial; please check out more of my content for more on this. Best wishes Stu

My problems with chipping have all related to control of the bottom of the swing - fats and thins. As long as I concentrate on pressure down on handle and turning through, I chip reasonably OK provided it is what I would describe as a stock, mid trajectory shot. Ask me to use the same club to hit a high shot or low shot, and particularly from a doubtful lie, I struggle. I am sure in part this is because I have no idea how bounce and grind are supposed to help.
I will worry about the fancy shots once I can consistently get the stock shot to land close, but I suspect that will be a Stuart lesson in the future!

    • @GoodGolfCoaching
